MOMENCE -- Laura C. Carpenter, 92, of Kimberling City, Mo., formerly of Momence, died Wednesday (Sept. 10, 2003) at Table Rock Retirement Center in Kimberling City. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Jerry Haley will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Airy cemetery in Momence. Memorials may be made to the family wishes or to the First United Methodist Church in Momence. She was born Nov. 2, 1910, in Chicago, the daughter of Gustav and Mary L. Hathaway Ernsting. Her husband, Robert Carpenter, whom she married
June 29, 1930, in Crown Point, Ind., died Oct. 1, 1993. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary and Chester "Chic" Warren of Kimberling City, Mo., Roberta Meyer of Lindenhurst; one sister, Carol Johnson of Gold Beach, Ore.; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. One daughter and two sons-in-law, Gwen and Joseph Shirk and Kenneth Meyer; five brothers, four sisters, three grandchildren and one great-grandson, are deceased. Mrs. Carpenter attended the First United Methodist Church of Momence and was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.

ST. ANNE -- Donald L. Heck, 76, of St. Anne, died today (Sept. 11, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Arrangements are pending at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
Jimmy Johnson
Jimmy Johnson Jr. 62, of Bradley, died Sunday (Sept. 7, 2003) at Hines Veterans Hospital. Graveside services will be held Monday at the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Alberta Johnson.

DE MOTTE, Ind. -- Joan Kathryn O'Brien, 75, of DeMotte, Ind., formerly of Momence, died Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2003) at the Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village in DeMotte. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Jackson Funeral Service, 200 Third St. SW, DeMotte, where a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Rev. Lary Sakel will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Momence cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village, DeMotte, Ind., or Alzheimer's Disease. Mrs. O'Brien was a self-employed seamstress for 35 years. She was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Kankakee, the daughter of Truby and Mabel Weeks Evans. Her husband, Frank A. O'Brien, whom she married
July 21, 1946, in Momence, died July 12, 2001. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Jonkman of DeMotte, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Marlene O'Brien of St. Joseph, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Chris and Karen Jonkman and Corey and Katey O'Brien. She was a 1945 graduate of Momence High School. Mrs. O'Brien was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Momence. She lived in Momence most of her life before moving to DeMotte in July 2001.

ST. ANNE --Visitation for Dora Lee Ray, 81, of St. Anne, will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at Bethelehem M.B. Church in St. Anne. Rev. Johnnie Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery, Kankakee. Leggett Funeral Home in Hopkins Park is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ray died Sunday (Sept. 7, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. She was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Baton Rouge, La., the daughter of Archie and Laura Augusta Barnes. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Barnetta Ray and Jesse Caston of Kankakee; seven sisters, Bertha Mooney of Hopkins Park, Lizzie Thompson, Essie Finley, Lucille Barnes, Louise Barnes, all of Chicago, Nellie Wright and Dorothy Wright, both of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, one son, one daughter, four brothers and one sister, are deceased. Mrs. Ray was a resident of the area for 49 years and a member of Bethlehem MB Church, St. Anne, and the Mother's Board.

Roberta St. Aubin, 65, of Bradley, died today (Sept. 11, 2003) in the emergency room at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Arrangements are pending at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
David Stone
WATSEKA -- Visitation for David L. Stone, 56, of Watseka, will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Glenn Raymond Middle School in Watseka. Pastors Lonnie Laughlin and Jim Harkins will officiate. Burial will be in Body cemetery, Woodland. Memorials may be made to the Iroquois Valley Youth for Christ. He died Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka. Mr. Stone was a former brick mason and building trades teacher. He was a Watseka area farmer for the past 23 years. He also was the pastor of Living Hope Church in Watseka. He was born March 8, 1947, in Watseka, the son of Henry and Thelma Cahoe Stone. Surviving are his wife, the former Susan Johnson, whom he married
July 15, 1967, in Watseka; one son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Marci Stone of Watseka; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Erik Parmenter of Watseka, Mandy and Chris VanHoveln of Milford; his parents of Watseka; two sisters, Connie Cross and Carolyn Applebaum, both of Watseka; one brother, Tim Stone of Watseka; and five grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was on the board of directors for the Iroquois Valley Youth for Christ and on the Steering Committee for the Watseka Youth For Christ.

A funeral Mass for Mary E. Paquette, 84, of Kankakee, was celebrated Sept. 10 at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Rev. Gregor Gorsic officiated. Mrs. Paquette died Sept. 7, 2003. Burial was in All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were Patrick Paquette, Jason, J.R. and Justin Bushey, Joshua Nantista and Alex Panozzo.

ASHKUM -- Services for Merle O. Hilgert, 80, of Coloma, Wis., formerly of the Ashkum area, were held Sept. 8 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Rev. Tim Rademacher officiated. HERSCHER -- Services for Mary Myers, 60, of Herscher, were held Sept. 9 at the Herscher United Methodist Church. Rev. Jerry Watkins officiated. Mrs. Myers died Sept. 6, 2003. Burial was in Pilot cemetery in Herscher. Pallbearers were Jeff, John, Josh and Raymond Jordan, George Myers V and Dennis Lowe. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Lowe and Ken Hamlin.

GRANT PARK -- Visitation for Johanna C. Wagner, 88, of Grant Park, will be 6-9 p.m. today at Momence Funeral Chapel. There will be no services. Private burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery, Lansing. Memorials may be made to First Reformed Church of Wichert where she was a member, or Miller Center. She died Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2003) in Kankakee. Mrs. Wagner was born Dec. 8, 1914 in Roseland, the daughter of Gilbert and Ludena Aggen Wiersema. Her husband, John Wagner, died in 1981. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John G. and Lucille Wagner of Grant Park; two grandchildren, Steven and Patti Wagner of Grant Park, Barbara and Robert Sikma of St. Anne; and four great-grandchildren. Her stepmother, Martha Wiersma, is deceased.
David Pearson III
WILMINGTON -- David Dysart Pearson III, 48, of Wilmington, died Tuesday (Aug. 26, 2003) at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Custer Park Baptist Church. Rev. Larry Schreffler will officiate. Arrangements are by R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd., Braidwood Chapel. Mr. Pearson was born Aug. 10, 1955 in Hollywood, Calif., the son of David II and Gayle Wilson Pearson. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Linda Nguyen, of Wilmington; one son, David Pearson IV of Washington; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and James Beauchaine of Washington; his stepfather, Al Phillips; and one sister, Diane Goodwin of Alaska. One brother, Douglas Pearson, is deceased. Mr. Pearson was employed at Excelon Braidwood Station for the past 16 years. He served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy. He attended Custer Park Baptist Church, and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Lorene W. Spreitzer, 91, of Joliet, formerly of Braidwood, died Wednesday (Aug. 27, 2003). Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds in Joliet. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet. Burial will be in St. John cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to the Joliet Area Community Hospice. She was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Braidwood, the daughter of James and Annie Linskey. Her husband, Robert L. Spreitzer, died in 1981. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda Spreitzer, Robert T. and Jeannette Spreitzer, Joseph and Suzanne Spreitzer, James and Lori Spreitzer; one daughter and son-in-law, Annie and Rowan Cardwell; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. She was a graduate of St. Patrick Grade and High Schools in Kankakee.
