Michael Barista

PEOTONE -- Michael Barista, 39, of rural Peotone, formerly of Park Forest, died Friday (Aug. 29, 2003), following an automobile accident. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Thomas DeSomer will officiate. Interment will be in West Peotone cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family's wishes. Mr. Barista was born Aug. 2, 1964 in Naperville, the son of Ronald and Patricia Borchardt Barista. His father is deceased. Surviving are his wife, Lynn Barista, whom he married Aug. 9, 2000 in Sturgis, S.D., of rural Peotone; two sons, Justin and Jason at home; one daughter, Dana at home; and two brothers, Steven Barista of Park Forest, and Mark Barista of California. Mr. Barista was a union laborer for Local 5, working for Aires Construction in Tinley Park. He participated in the A.B.A.T.E. Toys for Tots drive.

Mary Jane Garrett

RITCHIE/WILMINGTON -- Mary Jane Garrett, 95, of Ritchie/Wilmington, died Friday (Aug. 29, 2003) at Embassy Care Center. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Monday at Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington, where services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Wesley cemetery in Ritchie. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Mrs. Garrett was born March 19, 1908 in Hammel, Wis., the daughter of William and Mary Tyler. Her husband, William D. Garrett, died in 1982. Surviving are one daughter, Donna Rae Novy of Godley; five grandchildren, Debbie Tryner of Braidwood, Dennie Novy of Wilmington, Dean Novy of Godley, Danny Novy of Watseka and Dale Novy of Michigan; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. One brother, two sisters and one great-grandson, are deceased. Mrs. Garrett was a housekeeper for many families in the Wilmington area and enjoyed flower gardening.

Betty Lou Kreft

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Betty Lou Kreft, 70, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Bonfield, died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) at her home. Local services will be held at a later date.

Pasquale Montagano

MANTENO -- Graveside services for Pasquale "Pat" M. Montagano, 84, of Manteno, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's cemetery in Evergreen Park. Rev. Ed Grotovsky will officiate. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home of Manteno Ltd. Mr. Montagano died Friday (Aug. 29, 2003) at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1918, the son of Marco and Rosa Genovese. Surviving are his wife, the former LaVerne Venus, whom he married April 12, 1986 in Matteson, of Manteno; two stepsons, James and Cheryl Mikzaszewski, Clayton and Sandra Kauffman; four stepdaughters, Judith and John Warren, Amy Flynt, Jean and Gary Roth, Sue and Stephen Clarke; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. One son, John "Jackie"; three brothers, Michael, John and Joe Montagano; and three sisters, Violet, Carmella and Clara LoDuca, are deceased. Mr. Montagano was a retired mail carrier. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Manteno.

Betty Salmond

Visitation for Betty Jane Salmond, 81, formerly of Bradley, will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery in Terre Haute, Ind. Memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society. She died Tuesday (Aug. 26, 2003) in Vincennes, Ind. Mrs. Salmond had worked for First Trust Bank in the safety deposit department for 29 years. She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in St. Bernard, Ind., the daughter of Homer T. and Opal Lewis McCown. Her husband, Bernard Robert Salmond, whom she married Feb. 28, 1943, in Clinton, Ind., died May 24, 1970. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Deborah Salmond of Hughesville, Md., David and Priscilla Salmond of Vincennes, Ind.; one sister, Barbara Ford of Vincennes, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Hilda Lou Hensarling of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Salmond was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, serving as Past Worthy Matron; a member of the White Shrine, the Kankakee Woman's Club and the Tuesday Book Review. She was a past member of Central Christian Church.

Norbert Luecke

MILFORD -- Services for Norbert W. Luecke, 89, of Milford, were held Aug. 29 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Woodworth in Milford. Rev. James Ritter officiated. Mr. Luecke died Aug. 26, 2003. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery of Woodworth in Milford. Pallbearers were Ryan Luecke, Mark Rieches, Dennis, Victor, Roger, Steven and Kenneth Munro, and Harley Buente.

Alice Glass

HOOPESTON -- Services for Alice M. Glass, 80, of Hoopeston, were held Aug. 29 at Milford Christian Church in Milford. Revs. Neil Larimore and Gary Milton co-officiated. Mrs. Glass died Aug. 24, 2003. Burial was in Sugar Creek cemetery in Stockland. Pallbearers were Chuck and Craig Mann, Pat Fleming, Mike, Gerald, Gary and Melvin Allen.

H. Elizabeth Thompson

LIMESTONE -- Services for H. Elizabeth "Elizabeth" Thompson, 90, of Limestone, were held Aug. 28 at Hertz-Thoma Chapel in Kankakee. Rev. Herb Thompson officiated. Mrs. Thompson died Aug. 26, 2003. Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery, Kankakee. Pallbearers were Randall and Jayson Groff, Carolyn Bass, Jeffery Thompson, Richard Wetmore and Marvin Lavallie.

Lucille Lundmark

Services for Lucille Ruth Lundmark, 87, of Bradley, were held Aug. 28 at Church of God Worship Center in Bourbonnais. Revs. Rick Sexton and Michael LeBuhn co-officiated. Mrs. Lundmark died Aug. 24, 2003. Burial was in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery, Kankakee. Pallbearers were David, Timothy, Daniel, Peter, James, Joseph and Paul Lundmark, and Jeff McLaughlin.

Elmer Hasbargen

WATSEKA -- Services for Elmer C. Hasbargen, 84, of Watseka, were held Aug. 29 at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Joseph Hughes officiated. Mr. Hasbargen died Aug. 29, 2003. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Watseka. Pallbearers were Karl Chrisler, John Freelove, Mike Murphy, Gary Roberge, Robert and Larry Hasbargen.

Michael Taylor

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Michael Louis Taylor, 47, of Las Vegas, Nev. and a former area resident, died Aug. 15, 2003. Services were held Aug. 22 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Boulder City, Nev. An honor guard from the North Las Vegas Police Department stood at attention around the casket during the service and afterwards as the casket and family were leaving the church. Burial was in the Boulder City cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Ranch for Children in Boulder City. Mr. Taylor was retired from the North Las Vegas Police Department-Corrections Department and was most recently a representative for Bob Olson Insurance. He was born July 26, 1956, in Kankakee. Surviving are his wife, Linda Melott Taylor of Las Vegas; his parents, Chester Louis and Barbara Taylor of Bourbonnais; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Brandon Taylor of Austin, Texas, Mary and Itsu Iliev of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Nevlin of Arizona and Peggy Taylor of Bourbonnais; one brother, David S. Taylor of Bradley; four grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. His maternal and paternal grandparents and one uncle are deceased. Mr. Taylor spent his early years in the Kankakee area, graduating from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. He was a chess player, winning many awards and trophies for his efforts. He enjoyed fishing, sports and especially following the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed helping others.

Tessona Terrell

Tessona Terrell, 43, of Kankakee, died Thursday (Aug. 28, 2003) at Rush-Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. Arrangements are pending at Leggett Funeral Home in Hopkins Park.

Carlyle Triebold

CRETE -- Carlyle Triebold, 61, of Crete, died Thursday (Aug. 28, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hack Funeral Home in Beecher, where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Wm. Godfrey will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery in Crete. Mr. Triebold was born Oct. 4, 1941 in Crete, the son of Carl and Clara Batterman Triebold. His parents are deceased. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Patrick Young of Manteno, Laura and Abe Ibrahim of New Port Richie, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Two brothers, Dale and Verdell are deceased. Mr. Triebold was a salesman for Kinetico Water Softeners. He was a member of Crete Lions Club and Zion Lutheran Church in Crete.

Robert Tummel

COAL CITY -- Robert D. Tummel, 73, of Coal City, died Friday (Aug. 29, 2003) at the Grundy County Home in Morris. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Avery Wilson will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Memorials may be made in his name to First Baptist Church of Coal City or the Diabetes Association. Mr. Tummel was born Aug. 2, 1930 in Joliet, the son of Claude and Margaret Kasten Tummel. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia Kay Harlow, whom he married Aug. 20, 1961 in Verona, of Coal City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Douglas Beasley of Morris, Karyn and Farooq Qureshi of Diamond; five grandchildren; two nieces, one nephew; and numerous cousins. One son died in infancy. Mr. Tummel moved to Verona with his family at the age of 14 and attended Mazon High School. At the age of 16, he began working for Santa Fe Railroad, until his enlistment into the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict (1951-1953). He was a heavy equipment operator at Cape Canaveral and later served in Eleuthra, British West Indies. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet until his retirement (1966-1992). He was a member of the Machinist Union and the First Baptist Church of Coal City, and enjoyed playing solitaire, channel surfing, and was a car collector.

Donald Dau

MOMENCE -- Donald F. Dau, 70, of Momence, died Friday (Aug. 22, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Cotter Funeral home in Momence. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Sollitt. Rev. Lon Landsman will officiate. Interment with military rites by the Momence Honor Guard will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery in Sollitt. Memorials may be made to Ziion Lutheran Church. Mr. Dau was born Feb. 1, 1933 in Bonfield, the son of Walter and Hattie Boness Dau. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Wilma Potzler, whom he married Jan. 1, 1954 in Momence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Ron Pilotte, Karen and Dean Kleinart, all of Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debbie Dau of Momence; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Eldon Dau of Baltimore, Md., Gerald and Shirley Dau of Bonfield; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lorraine and Clarence Habedank of Kankakee, and Ramona Gudgel of Lockport. One sister; and one son, Greg Dau, are deceased. Mr. Dau was a retired operating engineer from Oakwood Construction, Kankakee. He served during the Korean War era in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150 in Countryside, and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sollitt, where he had served as a Sunday School superintendent and as a church elder. He enjoyed gardening.

Richard Hendricks

WATSEKA -- Richard Hendricks, 65, of Watseka, died Saturday (Aug. 23, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.
