Sister Hildegard SSCM
Visitation for Sister Hildegard SSCM (Maria Von Der Kall), 92, of Kankakee, will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at Provena St. Mary's Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Beaverville. Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors in Kankakee is in charge of arrangements. Sister Hildegard died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Infirmary. She was born Dec. 28, 1910, in Bushbach, Rheinland, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Anna Jelhaler Von Der Kall. Surviving are one brother, Willie Von Der Kall of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. Six brothers and two sisters are deceased. She entered the convent in 1927 and took her first profession of vows in 1929. She took her final vows Aug. 15, 1935, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Delaplace Community and has been in the infirmary many years. Sister Hildegard worked in boarding schools. She also worked as a cook, hospital office assistant and as an aide in the infirmary, serving in Manteno, Momence, Joliet and Kankakee. She enjoyed making fancy crafts and drawing.
Kathryn Hoeger
PONTIAC -- Kathryn Mae Flessner Hoeger, 92, of Pontiac, formerly of Chatsworth, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Livingston Manor Nursing Home in Pontiac. Services were held at 11 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, where she was a member. Rev. Paul Darveau officiated. Burial was in the Chatsworth cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth. Hager Memorial Home, Chatsworth, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hoeger had worked as a cook at Chatsworth High School and had also taught at the Ottmuller School near Cullom for two years. She was born Jan. 8, 1911, in Charlotte Township, the daughter of Thees and Kate Voss Flessner. Her husband, Leonard Hoeger, whom she married
Dec. 24, 1932, in Brookfield, died June 13, 1974. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Donald Deany of Watseka, Carol and George Bowen of Bloomington; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece. Three sisters, Hilda, Florence Flessner and Ethel Sterrenberg, are deceased. She was a 1929 graduate of Chatsworth High School and attended Wartburg College in Clinton, Iowa. Mrs. Hoeger was a member of the Ladies Aid and enjoyed gardening.

BEECHER -- Gordon R. Jensen, 80, of Beecher, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) at his residence. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hack Funeral Home in Beecher, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Brandon Markette will officiate. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Memorials may be made to the Beecher Community Church Building Fund or to Vitas Hospice. Mr. Jensen was a retired yard leader at Keystone Steel. He was born May 2, 1923, in Platte, South Dakota., the son of Clarence Alva and Margaret Dyk Jensen. His wife, Eleanor, died June 16, 1996. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Becky Jensen of Katy, Texas, Russel and Donna Jensen of Peotone; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Stephens of Park Forest, Beth and Tom Schultz of Beecher, Jeri and Gary Roop of Richton Park; one sister, June Nash of Easton, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Tracy and Mark Seferovic, Dawn Ivey, Eric and Stephanie Stephens, Russel and Tammy Jensen, Cheryl Jensen, Leroy Scheiwe Jr., Bobby and Jim Leonard, Megan Roop, Mandy Roop and Keith Jensen; and 10 great-grandchildren. One great-grandson, Lucas Seferovic, died in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army in the 155th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion. Mr. Jensen was a member of the Beecher Amvets Post 67, the Masonic Lodge of Crete and the Beecher Community Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed camping and playing pool.
Lillian LaBolle

GIFFORD -- Lillian LaBolle, 101, of Gifford, formerly of Loda and Kankakee, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) at the Country Health Nursing Home in Gifford. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home in Paxton, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in Manteno. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. LaBolle worked as a doctor's receptionist in Harvey and was a dime store clerk in Kankakee before entering the Ford County Nursing Home in 1975. She had been a resident of Country Health Nursing Home for several years. She was born July 27, 1902, in Buckley, the daughter of Robert and Josephine Peno Nixon. Her husband, Vance LaBolle, whom she married
in 1936 in Crown Point, Ind., died in 1963. One nephew, John Klein of Loda survives. Four sisters and one brother are deceased. Her early years were spent in the Loda area where she attended country schools.

ASHKUM -- A funeral Mass for Veronica M. Flageole, 93, of Ashkum, was celebrated Aug. 9 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum. Rev. James Holup officiated. Mrs. Flageole died Aug. 6, 2003. Burial was in the Ashkum Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Mosier, John Harms, Steve Schunke, Randy Rabideau, Scott Schunke and Edward Maher Jr.
Timothy Zirkle
ONARGA -- A funeral Mass for Timothy J. Zirkle, 43, of Onarga, was celebrated Aug. 14 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilman. Rev. Lee Ryan officiated. Mr. Zirkle died Aug. 11, 2003. Burial was in the Onarga cemetery. Pallbearers were Dave Hines, Keith Richards, Tom Lamore, Don Gerdes, Mike Holt, Don Nichoalds, John Zirkle and Fidel Hurtado.
Joseph Nowman, Army veteran
BRACEVILLE -- Joseph E. Nowman, 75, of Braceville, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Morris Community Hospital. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the 10 a.m. services at the Reeves Funeral Home in Wilmington. Al Zlomie will officiate. Burial, with full military rites, will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Memorials may be made to the Braceville Emergency squad. Mr. Nowman was employed as a steelworker in California before returning to the area. He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Wilmington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Nowman. Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Hutton; four sons, Terry, Oscar, Joey and Timothy Nowman; three daughters, Angela and Helen Nowman and Jeanne Mooreland, all of California; five stepchildren; mother-in-law, Grace Marie Francious of Godley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Fifteen brothers and sisters are deceased. Mr. Nowman served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Grace Wilken
DANFORTH -- Grace Margaret Wilken, 86, of Danforth, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Prairieview Lutheran Home, after a short illness. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, and from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the 10 a.m. services at St. John's Lutheran Church in Danforth, where she was a member. Rev. James Gerth will officiate. Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Prairieview Lutheran Home or to the Hadley School for the Blind. She was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Danforth, the daughter of Eibe and Tonie Classen Wilken. Surviving are one sister, Verna Sparenberg of Danforth; one brother, Raymond Wilken of Kent, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Harvey and Wilbur; and two sisters, Mildred and Evelyn, are deceased. Ms. Wilken was a member of the Sarah Circle of her church and enjoyed bead work, leathercraft, playing bunko and visiting with friends.

MARION, Iowa -- Scott Alan Dixon, 44, of Marion, Iowa, the son of a Bourbonnais resident, was found dead at his home Monday (Aug. 11, 2003). Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. memorial service at the Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion. Revs. Jack Kendall and Fred Darbonne will officiate. A memorial fund has been established in his memory. Mr. Dixon was employed by Horn Auto Supply in Marion. He was born July 14, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John A. and Erma L. Hindman Dixon. His father is deceased. Surviving are his mother of Bourbonnais; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sharon Gourley of Corwith, Iowa, Marjorie and Jerry Schrock of Bourbonnais, Louise Cook of Boulder, Colo., Mary Jean and Allen VanderMast of London, England, Laura Dixon of Denver, Colo.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, John Dixon of Santa Maria, Calif., Steven and Alexa Dixon of Lompoc, Calif., Kenneth and Etta Dixon of Lakeport, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Dixon was a graduate of Springville High School and later attended Kirkwood Community College. He enjoyed guns and competitive shooting.

James "Jimmie" Goodrich Sr., 77, of Kankakee, died Monday (Aug. 11, 2003) at his home. At his request, no services will be held. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel in Kankakee. Cremation rites have been accorded by Hertz-Thoma Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley. Mr. Goodrich was the owner and operator of Jimmie Goodrich Starter Rebuilders in Kankakee for over 45 years. He was born in Kankakee on Jan. 27, 1926, the son of Claude A. and Marie Smith Goodrich. He is survived by his wife, Donelda "Nelda" Sniegowski Goodrich, whom he married
April 17, 1955, in Kankakee. Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Jim Jr. and Suanne Goodrich of Bradley; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara K. Goodrich of Bourbonnais, Carol A. and Jeffrey Brooks of Kankakee, Susan Marie and Howard Trombley of Warren, Mich.; and five grandchildren, Nicole and Michael Goodrich of Bradley, Renee and Jesse Brooks of Kankakee, Joscelyn Brooks of Richmond, Va. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty and Lawrence Delgado of Homosassa, Fla., Janet Fillinger of Bourbonnais; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Juanita Goodrich of Kankakee; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Goodrich enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May of 1944, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 85 in Kankakee. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and church-sponsored Salvation Army dinners. A former stock car driver during the 1950s and early 1960s, he raced at the Kankakee County Fairgrounds and other out-of-town tracks. He was an avid Richard Petty fan. Mr. Goodrich truly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, and attended their school functions and sporting events on a regular basis.
Richard Haynes
Richard P. Haynes, 67, of Bourbonnais, died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Visitation is tentatively set for Sunday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Anna Rose Lynn Jackson, infant daughter of Thomas Jackson and Robin Rybolt, both of Campbellsville, Ky., died at birth Friday (Aug. 8, 2003). Committal services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery, Kankakee. Rev. Larry Schreffler will officiate. Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Surviving besides her parents are her maternal grandparents, Laura and David Rybolt of Manteno; paternal grandparents, Janet and Doug Jackson of Kankakee; maternal uncle, Richard Rybolt; paternal uncle, Ricky; and three aunts, Kristen, Sara and Samantha. One brother, Joshua Jackson, is deceased. Anna was a member of the Christian faith.

Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee was in charge of arrangements. She died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee, from heart failure. Ms. Jones was retired from Shapiro Developmental Center. She was born Nov. 3, 1947, in Independence, La., the daughter of John Henry and Maud Arshield Young. Her parents are deceased. Surviving are one brother-in-law, James O. Wilson of Sun River Terrace; and three nephews, Michael, Anthony and Keith Williams. One sister, Henryetta Wilson, is deceased. Ms. Jones earned her master's degree from Olivet Nazarene University and sang in the choir at her church. She enjoyed shopping and baking.
George Kovis
MOKENA -- George J. Kovis, 88, of Mokena, father of a Manteno resident, died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at Frankfort Terrace. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. Greta McDonald will officiate. Interment will follow in Oakwood cemetery in Joliet. Mr. Kovis retired in 1972 from the U.S. Steel Mill Joliet Works as a millwright after serving with them for 29 years. He was born in Joliet, the son of Joseph and Emily McPhee Kovis. His parents are deceased. His loving wife of 57 years, Ruth I. Kovis, died in 1993. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Jeremiah Farrell of Manteno; two grandsons, Edward and Jason; two granddaughters, Christine and Annette Kiefer; one great-granddaughter, Tara Kiefer; and one great-grandson, Kamren Kiefer. Three brothers, Henry, Joseph and Donald Kovis; and two sisters, Emily Zivaly and Rose (John) Hendrickson, are deceased. Mr. Kovis had lived in Mokena for the past 33 years and was a former member of the Joliet Moose Lodge 300. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

ELGIN -- Grace Dorothy Luhman, infant daughter of Matthew and Kimberly Luhman of Elgin, and the granddaughter of Manteno residents, died Monday (Aug. 11, 2003). Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. services at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1244 W. Army Trail Road in Carol Stream. Rev. Andrew Koschmann will officiate. Burial will be in North cemetery in St. Charles. Memorials may be made to the family which will be establishing a fund in Grace's memory. Arrangements are by the Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles. Grace was born July 9, 2003 in Hoffman Estates. Surviving besides her parents are one brother, Eric; maternal grandfather, James Adamson of St. Charles; and paternal grandparents, Allan and Vickie Luhman of Manteno. Her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Adamson, is deceased.
