SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Delores Maxwell, 74, of San Diego, Calif., mother of a Manteno resident, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003). A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Gateway Christian Church in San Diego, where she was a member. Rev. Lou Wilburn will officiate. Burial will be in San Jose, Calif. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Ms. Maxwell was retired from the State of Illinois where she was the first female to obtain the title of Equipment Operator in 1974. She served many years as an EMT in Kankakee County. She was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Anthony Sylvester and Julia Nunes. Surviving are two sons, Nick Perusky of Gurnee, Greg Maxwell of Manteno; one daughter, Roxanne Maxwell of Angleton, Texas; one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Stevens of Providence, R.I.; one brother, Ralph A. Nunes of Sacramento, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed helping others, music and travel.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Daniel A. Mill, 42, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Kankakee, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) in a motorcycle accident. He was born Dec. 26, 1960, in Kankakee, the son of LaVern and Rita Panozzo Mill. He graduated from Herscher High School in 1979 and from Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas in 1983. He relocated to Colorado in 1996 to take a position with Peter Kiewett and Sons as project manager in its Denver office. He dearly enjoyed his family, hunting, woodworking and motorcycling. Survivors include his parents, LaVern and Rita Panozzo Mill of Kankakee; his maternal grandmother, Marguerite Grosso Panozzo; two brothers, Stan (Glenda) Mill of McHenry, Steve Mill and friend, Linda of Kankakee; two sisters, Cynthia (Robert) Chambers of Vergennes, Barbara (John) Dailey of New London, Wis.; special friend, Molly Benkert of Lakewood, Colo.; and longtime loyal canine companion, Jack. Surviving nieces and nephews include Meghan and Brad Mill of McHenry, Christina Mill and Matt (Deanna) Mill, all of Kankakee, Nicholas, Andrew and Adam Hurst and Joe Dailey, all of Wisconsin. Two great nephews also survive him. He was the devoted guardian of Amber and Casey. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Romeo Panozzo and paternal grandparents, Clifford and Mary Boycott Mill. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Father Dennis Settles will officiate. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society, the Kankakee Chapter of Red Cross or to the donor's choice. A special memorial was held in Lakewood, Colo. by his friends and co-workers on Aug. 12.

Shirley Peters, 74, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Visitation is tentatively set for Thursday with services on Friday. Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

CHEBANSE -- John Rollins, 66, of Chebanse, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) at his home, from cancer. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. memorial service at Grace Community United Methodist Church in Bourbonnais, where he was a member. Rev. Craig Sweet will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to his church or to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) of Kankakee County. Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors in Kankakee is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Rollins had been a proprietor of several auto service stations, including Circle DX in Kankakee until 1967, John's Arco in Bourbonnais from 1967-1978 and John's Amoco in Kankakee from 1978-1998. From 1998 until 2003 he was a driver for Provena Senior Services. He was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Chicago, the son of Keith and Adelaide Donovan Rollins. May 20, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley, of Chebanse; one son, Greg Rollins of Chebanse; one daughter, Colleen Rollins of St. George; three sisters-in-law, Marie Rollins of Greensboro, N.C., Rowena (Paul) Brown of Alvin, Clara Ann (Guy) Jones of Port Arthur, Texas; two grandchildren, Cody and Cale Rollins; and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Michael Rollins, is deceased. Mr. Rollins was a member and past president of the Automotive Trades Association, vice president of NAMI of Kankakee County and a former member of the Bass Fishing Club of Kankakee and the Horseshoe League of Aroma Park. He was an avid golfer. He played this year in the VFW Senior League at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.

HOLTON, Kan. -- Juanita L. Martin Yonke, 67, of Holton, Kan., formerly of St. George, died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at her home. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery, west of Holton. Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home for the Jackson County Friends of Hospice or for St. Dominic Catholic Church Mrs. Yonke worked as an aide, then as a monitor technician for Mercy Hospital in Janesville, Wis., for 22 years. One brother, Lawrence Martin; and two sisters, Maxine Benoit and Gerry Benoit, are deceased. She was a graduate of St. Patrick High School. Mrs. Yonke moved from Wisconsin to Holton in 1996. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton and sang in the church choir. She was a eucharistic minister to nursing home residents.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Mildred A. Halliday, 76, of Sioux Falls, S.D., sister of a Coal City resident, died July 25, 2003 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls. A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 1 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, where she was a member. She was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Dimock, S.D., the daughter of Anton and Annie Herrmann Schoenfelder. She was raised and educated in Dimock. Her husband, James Halliday, whom she married
June 4, 1951, in Dimock, died Sept. 20, 1997. Surviving are two sisters and one brother-in-law, Alvina Halliday of Coal City, Mary and Marvin Hohn of Dimock; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Wilfred and Vincent Schoenfelder; and one sister, Dorothy Muntefering, are deceased. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1950 and worked as a housekeeper. Mrs. Halliday was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Club, Catholic Daughters of America and an active member of the Moose Lodge and the Ladies of the Moose.

He died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, after an extended illness. Mr. Haynes was a former meat cutter at Big Bear and had also worked as a foreman at Bunge. One brother, Gary Haynes, is deceased. He was a graduate of St. Patrick High School and was a member of the 1954 Regional Basketball Champs (first time they won regional). Mr. Haynes was a member of the National Guard and the Moose Lodge in Bradley. He was a gifted craftsman and enjoyed woodworking and sports. He enjoyed attending the sports events his children and grandchildren participated in. He loved his family and lived his life for his family.

Mrs. Peters was an affiliate member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of St. John United Church of Christ and the Linden Twig Auxiliary at Riverside Medical Center. She was a boating enthusiast and enjoyed walking, swimming, gardening, flowers/plants, birds, wildlife, water and sewing, especially making her daughter's wedding dress. She loved sunbathing, waterskiing, baking, playing the organ, music and camping. She enjoyed entertaining and time with her family.
