Duane O'Connor
A funeral Mass for Judge Duane J. O'Connor, 58, of Kankakee, was celebrated Oct. 12 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Rev. Richard Pighini officiated.
Judge O'Connor died Oct. 9, 2002.
Burial was in St. James cemetery, Irwin. Pallbearers were Ed Smith, Larry Cheffer, Andy Kreutzer, Jeff and Greg O'Connor and Elliot Williams. Honorary pallbearers were all current and former Circuit and Associate Circuit Court judges and the Kankakee County Bar Association.
Henry Horstmann
Services for Henry C. Horstmann, 94, of Kankakee, were held Oct. 14 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rev. Curtis Boyer officiated.
Mr. Horstmann died Oct. 10, 2002.
Burial was in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Kraig, Jeff, Mike, Matt and Greg Horstmann.
Helen Krause
Visitation for Helen Krause of Kankakee will be from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday until the 9:30 a.m. services at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Felipe Martinez will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Memorial may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Kankakee, where she was a member.
She died Friday (Oct. 11, 2002) at Provena Heritage Village.
Miss Krause had been a legal secretary for Judge Taylor and then a secretary at Kankakee State Hospital.
She was born Dec. 10, 1915 in Chicago the daughter of Enoch and Alma Holz Krause.
Surviving are one sister, Caroline Krause of Kankakee; and cousins, Robert and Lora Heil of Tucson, Ariz., Velma Burke of Washington D.C. and Ruth Hilgert of Kankakee.
One sister, Harriet M. Krause, is deceased.
She enjoyed antiques and classical music.
Arno Krumwiede
WATSEKA -- Arno A. Krumwiede, 88, of Watseka, died Sunday (Oct. 13, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Woodworth, where he was a member. Rev. James Ritter will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, Woodworth.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Arrangements are by the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
Mr. Krumwiede had farmed in the Buckley-Onarga area.
He was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Buckley, the son of F.P. and Lillie Kaufmann Krumwiede.
Surviving are his wife, the former Betty E. Corbly, whom he married
Sept. 28, 1940, in Buckley, of Watseka; three daughters and one son-in-law, Delores and Roger Hasselbring of Cissna Park, Jean Hines and Melody Trumble, both of Watseka; one brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Ruth Krumwiede of Clinton; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marvel Anderson of North Hills, Calif., Violet and George Weller of Atascadero, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Lois Krumwiede of Buckley; five nieces and seven nephews; 10 great-nieces and 10 great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces and one great-great-nephew; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Myron, Glenn, Delmar and an infant; one son-in-law, Charles Hines; and two grandsons, are deceased.
Mr. Krumwiede was a member of the church dart-ball team, the church Men's Club and the Farm Bureau. He was currently the chairman of the Iroquois County Senior Citizens.
He was a former church board member and a former board member of St. John's Lutheran School in Buckley.
Mr. Krumwiede played for the Dutchmasters and Farm Bureau 35'ers ball teams.
He was an avid Cubs fan and loved playing cards, hunting and fishing.
Charles Marketti
GARDNER -- Charles E. "Cookie" Marketti, 55, of Gardner, died Saturday (Oct. 12, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, South Wilmington Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Deacon Joe Riggi will officiate.
Burial will be in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery, Braceville. Pallbearers will be Tom and Dean Tambling, Dean and Mike Christensen, Bill Gerrish and Rick, Adam and Eric Phillips. Honorary pallbearer will be Gary Corneglio.
Memorials may be made to the Gardner Fire Department or to a fund of the donor's choice.
Mr. Marketti owned and operated Marketti's Amoco in Gardner for 23 years, retiring in 1999. He was a former Grundy County Deputy Sheriff.
He was born March 1, 1947, in Joliet, the son of Charles Sr. and Tillie Batusich Marketti. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jacke Humbert, whom he married
June 19, 1971, in Gardner; three brothers and one sister-in-law, John Marketti of Joliet, Rick and Donna Marketti and Terry Marketti, all of Gardner; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Bette Humbert of Gardner; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Jayne Kerns of Rock Island and Kevin and Jill Finn of Moline; several nieces and nephews; and two special cousins, Gary and Marilyn Corneglio.
He enjoyed the Cubs and was a NASCAR fan.
June Zick
THAWVILLE -- June S. Zick, 84, of Thawville, died Saturday (Oct. 12, 2002) at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Lamb-Young Funeral Home, Roberts, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Thawville, where she was a member. Rev. Don Ehlers will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ridgeland Township cemetery in Thawville. Pallbearers will be Jason, Travis and Dirk Arends, Jewell III and P. Christian Burk and Gregory Zick.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or to the Gibson Area Hospital Building Fund.
Mrs. Zick, along with her husband, owned and operated Leo's Tap in Thawville for 30 years. She then worked at Louis Melind Rubber Stamp Factory in Onarga retiring after 18 years of service.
She was born June 10, 1918, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Charles Ralph and Jane R. Rogers Sloan.
Her husband, Leo C. Zick, whom she married
Nov. 4, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa, died Dec. 3, 1968.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Spencer L. and Nancy A. Zick of LeClaire, Iowa; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gynell K. and David Arends of Kewanee, Gayle C. Burk of Lafayette, Ind., Alicia A. and Bruce Winter of Mahomet; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Charles "Buck" Sloan of McLeansboro, John R. Sloan of Hallsville, Mo., James W. Sloan of Benton, Roger L. Sloan of Mishawaka, Ind., Jerry E. Sloan of Salt Lake City, Utah, the head coach of the Utah Jazz NBA team and a former player and coach with the Chicago Bulls; and three sisters, Geneva Nipper and Hattie J. Sloan, both of McLeansboro and Shirley J. Irvin of Stone Mountain, Ga.
One brother, Dwight L. Sloan, is deceased.
Mrs. Zick was a member of the Thursday Afternoon Matron's Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society.
Lee Atchison
HERSCHER -- Lee Atchison, 81, of Herscher, died today (Dec. 5, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Arrangements are pending at the Herscher Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Survivors include his wife, Betty.
Velma Bachaus
CRETE -- Velma P. Bachaus, 91, of Crete, died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at St. James Hospital and Health Centers, Chicago Heights.
Visitation will be from noon Friday until the 1 p.m. services at the Hirsch Funeral Homes, Spindler-Koelling Chapel, 507 Exchange St., Crete. Rev. John Stellick will officiate.
Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery, Crete.
She was born Aug. 25, 1911, in Grant Park, the daughter of John and Emma Bernhard Bachaus.
One sister, Beatrice Bachaus of Crete, survives.
One sister and brother-in-law, Elenor and Oscar Knuth; and one brother, William Bachaus, are deceased.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crete.
Rita Baima
COAL CITY -- Rita Baima, 87, of Joliet, formerly of Coal City, died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Bolingbrook.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Reeves Funeral Home, Coal City.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Assumption Catholic Church, Coal City. Rev. Mike Pennock will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Wilmington.
Memorials may be made for Alzheimer's research.
She was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Joliet, the daughter of Charles and Sarah Rodgers Kern.
Her husband, Dr. Dominick "D.J." Baima, whom she married
April 29, 1939, in Joliet, is deceased. After their marriage, the Baimas moved to Coal City where he began his medical practice. In 1963 she moved back to Joliet where she was a volunteer for many years at St. Joseph Hospital.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Austin of Lemont; three grandchildren, Colleen Orzech of Somonauk, Ginger Schroers of Orland Park, Jennifer Austin of Lemont; two great-granddaughters; one niece and one nephew.
One sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Walter Schauland; and one niece, Caryl Sarcletti, are deceased.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing.
Thomas Billadeau

Visitation for Thomas D. "The Magician" Billadeau, 56, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Sandra Jewell will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorials Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made for his grandchildren's education.
He died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at St. James Olympia Fields Medical Center.
Mr. Billadeau was a professional magician. He had also been employed by Provena St. Mary's Hospital in security.
He was born Nov. 19, 1946, in Kankakee, the son of Thomas L. and Avinel Brumitt Billadeau. His parents are deceased.
He had been married
to the former Roberta Landry.
Surviving are one son, Derek Billadeau of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jeff Haremski of Kankakee; and six grandchildren.
One aunt, Orpha Brumitt, is deceased.
He was a graduate of Kankakee High School and attended Kankakee Community College.
Mr. Billadeau was a longtime area baseball umpire and also had been an assistant coach for St. Anne High School girls basketball.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Billadeau had been president of the local chapter of the Society of American Magicians.
He enjoyed sports, especially street hockey.
