Sara Butterfield
MT. AUBURN -- Sara A. Butterfield, 69, of Mt. Auburn, and the mother of a Kankakee resident, died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Private family services will be held at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur.
Burial will be in Berea cemetery.
Mrs. Butterfield was employed by the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) at Richland Community College until her retirement.
She was born April 27, 1933, in Stanford, Ky., the daughter of Everard and Bertha Guy. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph Butterfield, whom she married
Oct. 27, 1951, in Decatur, of Mt. Auburn; one daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Rick Livesey of Kankakee; and grandchildren, Jared and Nicole Livesey of Chicago.
One sister, Sandra Hinkle; and one brother, Richard Guy, are deceased.
Julius DalCanton,
heavy equipment operator
Visitation for Julius DalCanton, 88, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a 5 p.m. wake service at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he was a member. Rev. Charles Wheeler will officiate.
Burial will be in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais.
Memorials may be made for Masses or to the donor's choice.
He died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at the Kankakee Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. DalCanton had worked at the Lehigh Stone Company as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Local 150 Operators Engineers.
He was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Germany, the son of Peter and Katherine Carlosari DalCanton. He came to the United States in 1923.
His wife, the former Verneal Margaret Renville, whom he married
May 21, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Goodrich, died April 13, 1998.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Maureen DalCanton of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Jack Tomblin of Kankakee; one sister, Rena DalCanton of Kankakee; one brother and sister-in-law, Mario and Arvelle DalCanton of Kankakee; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Primo and Angelo DalCanton; and twin sisters, who died at birth, are deceased.
He enjoyed fishing and camping.

GILMAN -- Visitation for Dorothy E. Frerichs, 74, of Gilman, formerly of rural Danforth, will be from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the 2 p.m. services at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. Rev. Robert Downs will officiate.
Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery.

Mrs. Frerichs died Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2002) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion.
She was born June 17, 1928, in Gilman, the daughter of Henry and Lydia Hansen Schroeder.
Surviving are her husband, Oliver "Ollie" Frerichs, whom she married
Nov. 23, 1947; three daughters, Kathy Bear of Ingalls, Ind., Joyce Balding of Gilman, Sharon Fatka of Ashkum; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lester Schroeder of Gilman.
One brother died in infancy.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gilman and enjoyed reading.

DWIGHT -- Joann Johnson, 62, of Dwight, died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at Morris Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
A private family memorial service will be held.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Dwight Main St. program or to the Livingston County Humane Society.
Ms. Johnson was a systems analyst at Caterpillar for 23 years.
She was born May 26, 1940, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Lillian Duhn Fay.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Doug Watchinski, Andrea and Chris Burkhardt, all of Dwight, Dawn and Terry Wenger of Alaska; one sister and brother-in-law, Jeanie and Gerald Brutlag of Minnesota; and five grandchildren.
She liked to travel and enjoyed reading and collecting things.

MANTENO -- Visitation for Frank T. Kalata, 64, of Manteno, will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manteno, where he was a member. Rev. Ed Grotovsky will officiate.
Private burial will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood.
He died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Mr. Kalata had been a purchasing agent for 46 years with Illinois Central Railroad.
He was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Rose Janucik Kalata. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Estelle M. Pyka, whom he married
Oct. 8, 1960, at St. Bernadette's Church, Evergreen Park, of Manteno; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Ann and Kenneth J. Kreish of Shelbyville, Ind.; one sister and brother-in-law, Lorretta and Ronald Halcarz of Wisconsin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Mildred Kalata of So. Carolina, Ted and Donna Kalata of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother-in-law, Stanley and Betty Dyka of Grapevine, Texas; three grandchildren; one aunt, Helen Kleiber; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kalata was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Anne Sodality.

Joan L. Kuhn, 61, of Kankakee, died Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Larry Schreffler will officiate.
Burial will be in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais.

She was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Kankakee, the daughter of Royce and Hazel Beland Rockwell. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are one son, Ronald L. Kuhn Jr. of Alabama; one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Cecil Powell of Petersburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and William Hudson of Bradley; four grandchildren; and one nephew.
She enjoyed embroidery.

Mary Mecila, 79, of Kankakee, died Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2002) at ManorCare Nursing Center.
A memorial Mass is tentatively set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Vernette M. Ryan, 74, of Bourbonnais, died today (Dec. 5, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.

REDDICK -- Visitation for Eileen Lillian Unz, 92, of Reddick, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the noon services at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee. Rev. Tom Wilbur will officiate.
Burial will be in the Grand Prairie cemetery, Bonfield.

She died Monday (Dec. 2, 2002) at her home.
Mrs. Unz worked as a public health nurse and private duty nurse. She volunteered at Dwight Continental Manor, Riverside Medical Center and received a certificate honoring her for over 1, 600 hours of volunteer service at William W. Fox Developmental Center in Dwight.
She was born April 26, 1910, in Reddick, the daughter of Frank and Freida Feller Oberlin. Her parents are deceased.
Her husband, Charles Unz, is deceased.
Surviving are two nephews, Glenden and Lydia Lehnus of Reddick, Gale and Jane Lehnus of Kankakee; two nieces, Eldeen and Rocky Hall of Kankakee, Miria and Charles "Doc" Hester of Plant City, Fla.; and many nephews and nieces-in-law.
One sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Reuben Lehnus; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert and Margaret Oberlin and Eldon and Clarissa Oberlin, are deceased.
She graduated Sept. 14, 1930 from Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago.
Mrs. Unz was a member of Reddick United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed family gatherings and traveling.
She was a very caring private duty nurse who often assisted familes when their loved ones were hospitalized. Her volunteer work at Fox Center and helping persons in need meant a lot to her.
