Almetris Winfield, 64, of Kankakee, died today (Dec. 4, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation is tentatively set for Monday evening and services on Tuesday.
Arrangements are pending at Lax Mortuary, Kankakee.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Winfield.
Elwood Foltz

Elwood J. "Buck" Foltz, 81, of Bradley, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Virgil Wesco will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Foltz was a truck driver for C&J; for over 30 years, retiring in 1976.
He was born July 1, 1921, in Bonfield, the son of Cloice and Charlotte Miller Foltz. His parents are deceased.
His wife, the former Arvilla McCullough, whom he married
Feb. 16, 1959, in Kankakee County, is deceased.
Surviving are one daughter, Kendra Breymeyer of Bradley; two sisters, Verla McCullough of Watseka, Adel Howard of Lowell, Ind.; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Cloice Foltz of Richmond, Texas, Luther and Viola Foltz of Bonfield, Clarence Foltz of San Antonio, Texas, Marion "Mike" Foltz of Bonfield; two grandchildren, Jacob and Brandi Breymeyer; two great-grandchildren, Haley Breymeyer and Alex Curwick; and several nieces and nephews.
Three sisters, Marcella Foltz, Leona Sass, Luella Watson; and one brother, Paul Foltz, are deceased.
Mr. Foltz was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.
He enjoyed playing cards with family members, hunting and fishing.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Desmond Fortner
NORMAL -- Desmond Cruse Fortner, 88, of Normal, and the father of a Dwight resident, died Sunday (Nov. 24, 2002) at Illiana Healthcare Center, Danville.
Services were held today at Duffy Funeral Home, Pontiac. Rev. Loran I. Bumpus officiated.
Burial was in Camp Butler cemetery, Springfield.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Fortner was a retired officer of the Department of Veterans Affairs where he served for 24 years.
He was born Nov. 24, 1914, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of William G. and Lillian B. Cruse Fortner.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce B. Fortner of Cornell, David L. Fortner of San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters, Helen Allan of Moneta, Va., Barbara Christensen of Dwight; one brother, Rev. Robert Fortner of Carmi; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Three sons, William, Ronald D. and John Claude Fortner; two daughters, Virginia Nicholoff and Mary Carol Fortner; one grandson; four wives, Ella DeLong, Prudence Johns, Phyllis Kosch and Laura Shotwell, whom he married
Aug. 20, 1966, died April 7, 1995; and one brother, Lt. Col. John Fortner, are deceased.
He was a graduate of Odell High School.
Mr. Fortner was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Bloomington, American Legion Post 635, the DAV, the Pontiac Elks 1019, AMVETS Bloomington 270, 32nd degree Mason, Mohammed Shriners, McLean County Shriners Club, Bloomington Rotary Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose 614.
Jane Gound
ASHKUM -- Visitation for Jane Gound, 79, of Ashkum, will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Clark Luce will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ashkum cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Ashkum Township Fire Department.
She died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home in Clifton.
Mrs. Gound owned and operated J&J; Cafe in Ashkum.
She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Whitehall, the daughter of Russell and Mildred Mosier Roodhouse.
Her husband, Joseph E. Gound, whom she married
Feb. 7, 1946, in Whitehall, died Oct. 15, 1991.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Russell and Terri Gound of Gilman, Leroy Gound and companion, Debra Hoover of Watseka; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Delbert "Pete" Vaughn of Clifton; two sisters, Marilyn Goben of Whitehall and Betty Long of East Alton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gound was a member of the United Church of Chebanse and the Ashkum American Legion Auxiliary.
She loved to cook and bake.

BONFIELD -- Bert R. Love, 97, formerly of Bonfield, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at Provena Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home in Bourbonnais.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel. Rev. Larry Schreffler will officiate.
Burial will be in the Custer Township cemetery, Custer Park.
Mr. Love was a retired farmer. He had farmed near Bonfield and Custer Park.
He was born May 14, 1905, in St. Anne, the son of Henry and Lillie Miller Love.
His wife, the former Edith Miller, whom he married
Sept. 23, 1926, is deceased.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris Stauffenberg of Manteno, Donna and Edgar Oster of Kankakee, Neva and William Borth of Bourbonnais; three sons and two daughters-in-law, George Love of Kankakee, Robert and Shirley Love of Coal City, Vernon and Rosemary Love of Kankakee; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Willie and Rita Love of Custer Park and Evelyn Love of Braidwood.
One daughter, Margie Rettke; one son, Charles Love; and one brother, John Love, are deceased.
He enjoyed antiques and attending flea markets.

WILMINGTON -- Visitation for Robert Eugene Lowery, 53, of Wilmington, will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood.
He died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Mr. Lowery was employed at Cabot Microelectronics in Aurora. He was previously employed at Olin Chemical in Elwood for 23 years and at Heinz in Kankakee.
He was born Aug. 24, 1949, in Fairfield, the son of Clyde O. and Vada M. Mayberry Lowery.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Shawn and William Welsh of Wilmington; one son, Brad Lowery and his fiancee, Stephanie Surman of Diamond; his fiancee, Vicke Womack of Wilmington; two grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Donald and Lorraine Lowery of Joliet, Ray and Jane Lowery, Gale and Shirley Lowery, Jimmy Lowery and Larry Dean Lowery, all of Fairfield; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Larry Lambert of Robinson, Connie and Clarence Skurat of Woodlawn; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, Brenda Brooks; and an infant brother, are deceased.
Mr. Lowery was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 241 in Wilmington.
Gerald Martin
Gerald R. Martin, 59, of Bradley, died Friday (Nov. 29, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, Conn.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Church, Forestville, Conn.
Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902-4301.
Mr. Martin worked for American Spring and Wire in Forestville, Conn., and later in Bradley.
He was born March 22, 1943, in Biddeford, Maine, the son of Leo and Ann Cyr Martin. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Theresa "Pat" Tobin; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tina Martin of Bristol, Conn.; one daughter, Pamela Martin and friend, Jamie Meyers of Bristol, Conn.; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ella Martin of Madawaska, Maine; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Martin was a resident of Maine for several years and also lived in Bristol, Conn., for 23 years before moving to Bradley in 1995.
He served as vice-president of the Southern Lake County Conservation Club in Schneider, Ind.

Korean War vet
PIPER CITY -- Vincent E. Nethercott, 73, of Piper City, died Monday (Dec. 2, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 6 p.m. rosary service; and from 10 a.m. Thursday at the Reilly-Redenius Funeral Home, Piper City, until the 11 a.m. celebration of the funeral Mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Piper City. Rev. John Balluff will officiate.
Burial, with military rites by the Gibb Post 588 of the American Legion, Piper City, will be in Calvary cemetery, Piper City.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, Piper City, where he was a member, or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Nethercott was a farmer and drove a propane truck for Hal Gibson of Onarga.
He was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Piper City, the son of Eugene and Ella Cleary Nethercott.
Surviving are two sisters, Jeanne Donnelly and Margaret Boma, both of Piper City; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, Mary Julia Miller, is deceased.
He was a graduate of Piper City High School and attended St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind. for two years.
Mr. Nethercott was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Gibb Post of the American Legion 588, Piper City.
