Vernon Price

Visitation for Vernon "Boss" Allen Price, 45, of Kankakee, will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. service at Caldwell Chapel. Rev. Nathan Richmond will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Price died Thursday (Nov. 28, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born July 23, 1957 in Kankakee, the son of Vivian Thomas and Ruth Delores Miller Price. His father is deceased.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Kankakee, are two sisters, Rosella Ann Price and Ramona Marie Price, both of Kankakee; and one brother, Roderick Earl Price of Kankakee.
One brother, Virgil G. Price; four uncles; three aunts; maternal and paternal grandparents; two nephews; and one niece are deceased.

LaVerne Smith
WWII vet

Visitation for LaVerne R. Smith, 80, of Bourbonnais, will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bradley, where he was a member. Rev. Tom Wilbur will officiate.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Floral Hill cemetery, Hoopeston.
Memorials may be made to his church or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
He died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at his home.
Mr. Smith had worked at Bradley Roper for 17 years; General Foods for 10 years and at Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
He was born April 30, 1922, in Donovan, the son of Robert L. and Grace Carlson Smith. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marieta Comstock, whom he married Aug. 2, 1942, in Kahokia, Mo., of Bourbonnais; children, Joyce LaGesse (husband, the late Robert LaGesse) of Bradley and their children, Rebecca LaGesse of Elgin and Russell LaGesse of Bradley; R. Dean Smith (wife, Laurie Baer Smith) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Jay Smith, David Smith and Kelly Smith, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Sherry Johnson (husband, the late Kim Johnson) of Herscher, and their children, Kimberley and Mathew Foley of Victorville, Calif., Todd and Lisa Johnson of Greer, S.C.; Robert Smith of Bourbonnais and his children, Aimee Smith, Michelle Smith and Jessica Smith, all of St. Anne; Lea Cizek (husband, Chris Cizek) of Wheaton, and their children, Mark Cizek and Elizabeth Cizek, both of Wheaton; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Jean Smith of Fairfield Glade, Tenn; one sister, Anna Louise Smith Galloway of Bradley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Thomas Smith, Carl Smith and Robert LeRoy Smith; one sister, Linnea Smith Watts; and one grandson, Randall LaGesse, are deceased.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army sergeant serving for 35 months from Nov. 5, 1942-Sept. 27, 1945. He trained at Camp Roberts, Calif., was involved in the following theaters of operation: North Africa, Sicily, Normandy (Omaha Beach), Belgium, France and Germany. He also served in Ardennes, France, in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 and the Central European Theater. He received the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater awards; one Silver and one Bronze battle star; the Bronze Service Arrowhead; five overseas service bar Good Conduct medals; the Bronze Star medal; Distinguished unit badge with two oak leaf clusters and the combat infantryman's badge.
He was a member of the Aroma Park American Legion and the Foresters.
He was an avid gardener and loved to square dance with his wife. He also enjoyed bowling and was an excellent horseshoe player.

William N. Stone
farmer for 75 years

HERSCHER -- William N. "Bill" Stone, 92, of Herscher, formerly of Milks Grove Township, Clifton, went to his eternal life Monday (Dec. 2, 2002).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Herscher Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher, where he was a member. Rev. Ronald Hart and Rev. James Holup will co-celebrate.
Burial will be in Pilot Township cemetery, Herscher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for Masses or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
He was born Sept. 15, 1910, in Kankakee, the son of William and Caroline Francoeur Stone.
His wife, the former Mabel D. Garreau of Herscher, whom he married Jan. 8, 1930, at St. James Catholic Church in Irwin, died Dec. 1, 1995.
Surviving are one son, LaVerne Stone of Chebanse and special friend, Sandy Britt of Bradley; two daughters, Elvira Morris and special friend, Lyle Myhr of Olympia, Wash., and Arvella and Leo Morris Sr. of Sheldon; one half-brother, Shirley Stone; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Viola Lambert of Herscher and Doris Kuntz of Manteno.
One infant son, William Stone Jr.; one infant great-grandson, William Morris; one daughter-in-law, Thelma Stone; two brothers, Elmer Stone and Gabriel Stone; and three sisters, Annette Shultz, Lucille Hadden and Violet McClintock; and his foster parents, Alimore and Elizabeth Bertrand, are deceased.
Mr. Stone was a farmer for 75 years, spending 39 of those years in Milks Grove Township, Clifton. He lived his final years at the home of his son, LaVerne, where he died from cancer.
Sylvia Partain and Sandy Britt were his caretakers.
He invented physical fitness weights made from pool balls. He also loved tending his favorite flower, impatiens, and enjoyed visiting with his many friends. He had a smile for everyone.
Mr. Stone and his dog, Tiny, were great companions.

Andrew Swanson
WWII vet

OSSIAN, Ind. -- Andrew G. Swanson, 90, of Ossian, Ind., formerly of Donovan, died Friday (Nov. 29, 2002) at the Ossian Health Care.
There will be no visitation.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Missionary Church, Bluffton, Ind. Rev. Gary Aupperle will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Hope Missionary Church or to Ossian Health Care.
Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Homes, Ossian, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Swanson had been a farmer and electrician.
He was born Sept. 27, 1912, in Donovan, the son of Emil and Carrie Hafstrum Swanson.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine L. Swanson, whom he married May 8, 1978, in Van Wert, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Anita Haddix of Craigville, Ind.; two stepsons, Chris A. Stier of Ossian, Ind., Gregory L. Stier of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one sister, Elbe Johnson of Chicago; six stepgrandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Lowell, Raymond and Rex Swanson; and three sisters, Lou Eva Mathys, Grace McWayne and Maxine Ryan, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.

Katherine Thilmony

PAXTON -- Katherine J. Thilmony, 70, a former Paxton resident, and the relative of Loda residents, died Wednesday (Nov. 27, 2002) at the Kankakee Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Glen cemetery, Paxton. Rev. Denis White will officiate.
Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton, is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are two sisters, Barbara Redden of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ann J. Manns of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Gwen Thilmony Benoit and Bobby Thilmony, both of Loda; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Watters
community leader

DWIGHT -- Charles Henry Watters, 90, of Dwight, died Monday (Dec. 2, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Revs. Pam Gansch-Boythe and Stephen Lauricella will officiate.
Burial will be in Goodfarm cemetery, rural Dwight.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
A farmer, Mr. Watters served as a member of the Livingston County Board, was a Dwight Township Trustee and served as a Dwight Fire Protection District Trustee.
He was a founding member of the Dwight Industrial Association and a former member of the board of directors of Continental (now Heritage) Manor Nursing Home. He was past president and director of the Dwight Country Club.
Mr. Watters was very active in industrial and commercial development in Dwight and a supporter of the Dwight Harvest Days. He was honored in 1990 as Harvest Days Parade Marshall with his friend Ed DeLong.
He was born March 11, 1912, in Chatsworth, the son of Henry and Nila Wilson Watters.
Surviving are his wife, the former Esther Ruth "Toots" Hempfing, whom he married March 18, 1938, in Dwight; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Richard Pierce of Streator; two sisters, Velma Finch and Eulesta Giles, both of Dwight; and two grandchildren.
Three brothers are deceased.
He was a member of the Dwight Congregational Church and the Dwight Rotary Club. He was recently honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was a former member of the Dwight Lions Club.

Edna Wilson

GILMAN -- Edna Wilson, 89, of Gilman, died today (Dec. 3, 2002) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion.
Arrangements are pending at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman.

Dallas Behrends

CLIFTON -- Dallas Behrends, 54, of Clifton, died Thursday (April 17, 2003) at his home after a short illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

Betty Bridgewater

Betty Bridgewater, 66, of Bourbonnais, died today (April 18, 2003) at her home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the College Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband, Jim.

Vincent Brown

WATSEKA -- Vincent Brown, 38, of Watseka, died Thursday (April 17, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka.
Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the 1 p.m. services at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.

Cevia Klumker

DANFORTH -- Services for Cevia V. Klumker, 97, of Danforth, formerly of Ashkum, were held April 13 at Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Rev. Robert Downs officiated.
Mrs. Klumker died April 10, 2003.
Burial was in Danforth cemetery. Pallbearers were Rodney Brault, Don Dornfeld, Frank Haase, Merle Marcotte, Russell Schuler and Henry Wycoff.

Harrison Hall

Services for Harrison Bernard "Bern" Hall, 61, of Bradley, were held April 17 at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee. Rev. Bobby Bessant officiated.
Mr. Hall died April 14, 2003.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Eugene, Raymond, Billy, Timmy, Rick, Sam, Johnny, Billy Ray and Charlie Wayne Hall and Paul Pridmore.
