Visitation for Bernadette Elizabeth Canfield, 91, of LaPorte, Ind., formerly of Bradley, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee, where she was a member. Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donor's choice. She died Wednesday (May 28, 2003) in LaPorte. Mrs. Canfield and her husband owned and operated the Canfield Cafe from 1948-1965. She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Bradley, the daughter of John and Margaret Kuehnle Chaplinski. Her husband, Kenneth Canfield, whom she married April 27, 1935, in Bradley, died July 13, 1974. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Richard Tegt of LaPorte, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Emily Chaplinski of Bourbonnais; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Donald and Joseph Chaplinski, are deceased. She was a member of St. Mary's Auxiliary and the Home Extension Club in West Kankakee. She lived in Bradley until moving to be closer to her daughter in 1994.

Judith Kay Dawson, 59, of Bradley, died Tuesday (May 27, 2003) in Albuquerque, N.M. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bradley, where she was a member. Rev. Tom Wilbur will officiate. Burial will be in Plattville cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association. Ms. Dawson was a longtime bookkeeper for Roto Rooter. She was born Oct. 1, 1943, in Kankakee, the daughter of Aaron and Esther Schmidtt Dawson. Her parents are deceased. Surviving are three brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Nancy Dawson of Clifton, Alan and Sharon Dawson of Bradley, Clark and Diane Dawson of Albuquerque, N.M.; four nieces, six great-nieces and two great-nephews; and one great-great-nephew. Ms. Dawson was a graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. She was active in the church choir and Bell Choir. She enjoyed baking cakes and painting ceramics.

Mary Dewan

OAK LAWN -- Mary Therese Dewan, 75, of Oak Lawn, and the mother of Rev. William G. Dewan, the pastor of St. Joseph Church in Bradley, died Tuesday (May 27, 2003). Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at the Lawn Funeral Home, 7909 State Rd. (5500 W.) in Burbank. Funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday from the Lawn Funeral Home to St. Gerald Church in Oak Lawn for the 10 a.m. celebration of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery. In lieu of flowers treat yourself to something nice. Her husband, William P. Dewan, is deceased. Surviving are three sons, Rev. William G. Dewan of Bradley, Daniel G. Dewan, Timothy G. (Frances) Dewan; one daughter, Mary Kay (John) Rogers; six grandchildren, Kathleen, Maureen, James, Bridget, Michael and Morgan; two brothers, William (Jeanne) Kenney, James (Marilyn) Kenney; one sister, Katherine (Lawrence) Oldendorf; one brother-in-law, Clarence Granger; and many nieces and nephews. One son, Patrick G. Dewan; one grandson, Matthew; and one brother, Joseph Kenney, are deceased.

Michael V. Froelich

DANFORTH -- Michael V. Froelich, 55, of rural Danforth, died Wednesday (May 28, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the 2 p.m. memorial service at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Rev. Robert Downs will officiate. Private inurnment will be held in the Gilman cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Froelich Trust. Mr. Froelich was a farmer and had also worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation doing highway maintenance. He was born Sept. 23, 1947, in Fairbury, the son of Andrew and Edith Rebholz Froelich. His father is deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Lou Ann Arends, whom he married April 22, 1967, in Piper City, of rural Danforth; one daughter and son-in-law, Dayna and Dale Mitchell of Frankfort; one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Nicole Froelich of Brookfield; his mother, Edith Stuckey of Urbana; three grandchildren; and one sister, Andrea Kuhring of Urbana. One son, Joel, is deceased. He attended schools in Danforth and Gilman. Mr. Froelich served in the U.S. Army. He was a youth baseball coach and had coached Little League through Palamino League. He enjoyed carpentry work.

Myrtle R. Illum

MOMENCE -- Visitation for Myrtle R. Illum, 91, of Momence, will be from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Momence Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Momence, where she was a member. Rev. James Ruberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Shrontz cemetery, Momence. Mrs. Illum died Tuesday (May 27, 2003) in Kankakee. She was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Chicago, the daughter of Richard and Anna Wilkinson Dodson. Her husband, Glen Illum, died in 1973. Surviving are one son, Wayne Illum of Kankakee; one brother-in-law, Vern Stutzriem of Markham; one sister-in-law, Margaret Dodson of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One daughter-in-law, Victoria Illum; two brothers and two sisters, are deceased.

Audrey Krueger

SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS -- Audrey Ann Krueger, 81, of South Chicago Heights, relative of Beecher and Grant Park residents, died Wednesday (May 28, 2003) at St. James Hospital Olympia Fields Campus, Olympia Fields. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the noon services at Steger Memorial Chapel, 31st and Chicago Road, Steger. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery in Flossmoor.

WATSEKA -- Robert L. McCutchan, 85, of Watseka, died today (May 29, 2003) at Magnolia Wood Health Care in Watseka. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. services at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. John Coney will officiate. Burial will be in GAR cemetery, Watseka. Memorials may be made to the Martinton Church of Christ Building Fund or to the donor's choice. Mr. McCutchan had worked 29 years at Henkel Corporation in Kankakee. He was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Borden, Ind., the son of Clarence and Maude Wade McCutchan. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Ione Mercier, whom he married Aug. 2, 1941, in Watseka; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dwight McCutchan of Arizona, Richard and Mary McCutchan of Coal City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Romona and Paul Minick of Watseka, Deborah and Ron Welker of Indiana; one sister, Mildred Hoke of Alabama; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Alvin and Lynn McCutchan of Florida, Irvin McCutchan of Indiana; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Seven brothers and one sister are deceased. Mr. McCutchan served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Martinton Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing cards.

Cora Nesbitt

WICHERT -- Cora A. Kremer Nesbitt, 90, died Wednesday (May 28, 2003) at her home in Wichert. Cora was a member of the First Reformed Church of Wichert. She enjoyed collecting antiques, attending church, and time spent at home and with family. Cora was born May 12, 1913, in Wichert, to John and Tienie Westerhoff Schaafsma. Her first husband, G. Austin Kremer, whom she married July 8, 1933, died in 1978. She was preceded in death by her three children, Norman Kremer, Shirley Pristach, Dr. Arthur Kremer, DDS; four brothers, William, Jake, John and Art Schaafsma, and two sisters, Ida Van Dyke and Ginnie Miedema Knisley. Her husband, Howard D. Nesbitt, whom she married Jan. 10, 1981, survives her. Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Melvin Brandsma of South Holland; one sister-in-law, Lucille Schaafsma of St. Anne; one son-in-law, Andrew and Kathy Pristach of St. Anne; two daughters-in-law, Ila Kremer of Mulberry, Fla., Elaine Kremer of Chebanse; 11 grandchildren, Scott and Debbie Kremer of Westlake, Ohio, Tracy and Dave Elliott of Willowbrook, Dawn Kremer of Wadsworth, Ohio, Kim and Tom LeGault of Northville, Mich., Chris and Jill Pristach of Kankakee, Tina and Ron Patrick of Tucson, Ariz., Holle and Ken Tousignant of Kankakee, Dr. Art and Traci Kremer of Bourbonnais, Austin and Kelli Kremer of Fort Collins, Colo., Dr. Adam and Amy Kremer of Nashville, Tenn., Mark and Heidi Kremer of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 16 great-grandchildren; and extended family, Scott Nesbitt of Tampa, Fla., and Dave and Linda Nesbitt of Tulsa, Okla. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. service at the First Reformed Church of Wichert. Rev. Gerald Norman will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Wichert. Memorials may be made to the First Reformed Church of Wichert Memorial Fund. Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne, is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Severs

LAKE VILLAGE, Ind. -- Florence "Tally" Severs, 89, of Lake Village, Ind., formerly of Kankakee, died Monday (May 26, 2003) at the Rensselaer Care Center. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Lang Funeral Home in Morocco, Ind., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Dennis Morros will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland cemetery in Morocco. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the donor's choice. She was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Kankakee County, the daughter of James Franklin and Flora Edith Danford Styck. Her husband, Harold E. "Jack" Severs, whom she married Aug. 22, 1935, in Newton County, Ind., died in 1995. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Harold Beasley of Lake Village; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Wilma Severs of Maceo, Ky.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters are deceased. She had been a Lake Village and Morocco area resident for most of her life. She was a graduate of Bradley High School where she was the class valedictorian. Mrs. Severs was a member of the Roselawn United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Club, where she formerly served as president for many years. She enjoyed playing Bunco and bowling.

Donald Zeller

WATSEKA -- Services for Donald A. Zeller, 79, of Watseka, were held May 24 at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Lee Ryan officiated. Mr. Zeller died May 20, 2003. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Watseka. Pallbearers were Wayne Good, Norm Gocken, Gordon Elliott, Roger Dittrich, Jim Reutter and Harold Holaway. Honorary pallbearers were Benny Marcier and Amy Zeller. Pauline Smith Services for Pauline Smith, 78, of Kankakee, were held May 21 at Lax Mortuary. Rev. Robert Rucker officiated. Mrs. Smith died May 16, 2003. Burial was in Momence cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Eason Jr., Charles Eason III, Ronald Hayes, Jerry Henderson, Felix Mitchell and Winston Sykes.

Doris Holman

SUN RIVER TERRACE -- Services for Doris S. Holman, 69, of Sun River Terrace, were held May 24 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Alex T. Bond officiated. Ms. Holman died May 18, 2003. Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Troy Boatman Jr., Timothy Dudley, Henry Nicholes, Albert Thomas, General Morgan, Kerry Hutcherson, Johnathan Lewis and Frederick Anthony.

Gabrielle Lustig

DANFORTH -- A funeral Mass for Gabrielle C. Lustig, 91, of Danforth, formerly of Bradley, was celebrated May 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Rev. John Antczak officiated. Ms. Lustig died May 22, 2003. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee. Pallbearers were Thomas, James and Melissa Lustig, Wesley and Bonnie Jepson and Cathy Palmer. Timothy Sabatino Services for Timothy J. Sabatino, 19, of Kankakee, were held May 28 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Rev. Dan Boone officiated. Mr. Sabatino died May 22, 2003. Inurnment was in All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were Timothy A., Nate, Jim and Mike Sabatino, Steve Dewald and Ryan Denoyer. Alice Moore Services for Alice F. Moore, 81, of Kankakee, were held May 22 at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens cemetery in Troy, Mich. Rev. John Melish officiated. Mrs. Moore died May 19, 2003. Pallbearers were Joel, Justin and Jeffrey Solomon, Scott Schall, John Kerszulis and Dale Arbuckle.

Alois Zimbauer

Alois A. Zimbauer, 86, of Bourbonnais, died Wednesday (May 28, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley, where he was a member. Rev. John Antczak will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemtery in Worth. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Zimbauer was retired from Bethlehem Steel. He was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Stevens Point, Wis., the son of Andrew and Mary Stahowiak Zimbauer. His wife, the former Pearl Venier, whom he married Sept. 15, 1951, in Chicago, died Sept. 25, 1993. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Ann Gustafson of Merrillville, Ind.; two daughters, Loni Fattori of Bourbonnais, Lisa Zimbauer of Bradley; three sisters, Anna Zurawski of Warsaw, Wis., Lucille Legman of Stevens Point, Wis., Emily Kossowski of Stevens Point, Wis.; one brother, Carl Zimbauer of Stevens Point, Wis.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Yolanda Cummings of Holly, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Eight brothers and sisters are deceased.

James Beck

Visitation for James J. Beck, 88, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kankakee. Burial will be in Assumption cemetery in Ashkum. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he was a member, and an usher. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society. He died Monday (Aug. 4, 2003) at The Fountains in Crystal Lake. Mr. Beck retired as general manager of Domestic Linen and Garment Services in 1981 after 50 years with the firm. He also managed Kroger stores in Kankakee, Momence and Gary, Ind. and had owned his own grocery store on Wall Street in Kankakee. He was born March 11, 1915, in Kankakee, the son of Charles F. and Mary J. McLaughlin Beck. His parents are deceased. His wife, the former Katherine Mae Lyons, whom he married Feb. 8, 1941, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, died in April 1989. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James E. and Diana Beck of Crystal Lake, Joseph Beck of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Brian and Grace Beck of Park Ridge, Kevin and Tracey Beck, Erin and Joseph Kafka, all of Crystal Lake; seven great-grandchildren, Maggie, Katie, Jacqueline, Jennifer, Anthony, Quinn and Jessica; one sister, Margaret Wilking of Chebanse; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clement Beck of Kankakee, Louis and Vivian Beck of Bradley and Charles and Jane Beck of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. He graduated in 1931 from Chebanse High School, at age 16. Mr. Beck was a veteran of the U.S. Army 63rd Infantry Division Field Artillery of the 7th Army, serving in France and Germany during World War II. He was a member of the Kankakee American Legion Post 85. He enjoyed sports as a participant and spectator. He was a Bears, Bulls and Cubs fan.
