William Moberly

CLINTON - William E. Moberly, 81, of Clinton, and the father of area residents, died Monday (May 8, 2000) at his residence.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Calvert Funeral Home, with 7:30 p.m. Masonic rites, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. J. Kent Hickerson will officiate.
Burial, with military rites, will be in Mausoleum Park cemetery, Clinton.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, the Eagle?s Scholarship Fund or to St. John?s Hospice.
Mr. Moberly was a retired contractor in Clinton.
He was a Clinton volunteer fireman for 17 years.
He was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Wapella, the son of Bert and Flossie B. Hall Moberly.
Surviving are his wife, the former Olive Gibson, whom he married
March 15, 1941, in DeWitt, of Clinton; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen K. and Bill West of Bourbonnais; one son, James W. Moberly of Bradley; one sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Lee Kimmons of Decatur; four step-grandchildren, Scott (Marietta) West, David West, Stephanie (David) Sawyer, all of Buffalo, N.Y., and Brian West of Hamilton, Ohio; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one brother James D. Moberly; and two sisters, Nellie Fern Ryan and Ella Marie Yates.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the 7th Armored Group in the European Theater.
He was a member of the DeWitt Lodge AF and AM, Bloomington Consistory, Ansar Shrine in Springfield, and the Elks and Eagles Lodges.
He enjoyed gardening and woodworking for family and friends.

CHEBANSE - Visitation for Mary L. Goldenstern, 62, of Chebanse, will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Bourbonnais, where she was a member. The Revs. John Kiefer and Paul Crolius will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Chebanse.

Mrs. Goldenstern died Monday (May 8, 2000) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Mrs. Goldenstern was an elementary school teacher for many years at Zion Lutheran School in Chebanse.
She was born July 12, 1937, in Orlando, Okla., the daughter of Reinholt and Leoline Fry Vorth. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Clarence E. Goldenstern, whom she married
June 21, 1959, in Rockford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Cindy Goldenstern of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Tim and Cindy Goldenstern of Bourbonnais; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and David Lindstrom of Rockford; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Verna and Al Hein of St. Louis, Mo., Glenda and Lanny Miessler of Brenham, Texas; eight grandchildren; and special friend, Vae Ingram of Chebanse.
She attended Concordia College in River Forest, Governors State University and Kankakee Community College.
She liked to make ceramics.
Gertrude Blan
YORKVILLE - Gertrude B. Blan, 86, of Yorkville, and the mother of area residents, died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) at the Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion, Sandwich.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Parkway, Yorkville.
Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery, Geneva.
She was born June 28, 1913, in DeKalb, the daughter of Clements and Gertrude Blackburn Reid.
Her husband, Roy J. Blan, died in 1984.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Kay Blan of St. Anne, James and Lorraine Blan of Manteno; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters.
Mrs. Blan was a secretary for many years for the Chicago Title Company, Geneva.
She was a member of the Christian Science in Sandwich.

Florence LaMarre Schleper, 78, of Bourbonnais, died today (May 10, 2000) at Provena Heritage Village.
Visitation is tentatively set for Friday evening at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at Maternity BVM Catholic Church, Bourbonnais.
Julia Dickens
ST. ANNE - Julia Dickens, 73, of St. Anne, died Thursday (May 25, 2000) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. services at the Leggett Funeral Home, Hopkins Park. The Rev. Barney Ray will officiate.
Burial will be in the Momence cemetery.
She was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Starksville, Miss., the daughter of Willie Davis and Eddie Lee Harris.
Surviving are two sisters, Willie Mae Howard and Elizabeth Walker, both of Chicago; and one brother-in- law, Walter Branch of Hopkins Park.
Deceased are two sisters.
Mrs. Dickens was a resident of the area for 24 years.
She was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church, Hopkins Park.
Elizabeth Lowe
Visitation for Elizabeth Ida-Jo "Mother Lowe" Lowe, 93, of Kankakee, will be from 6 p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. services at Born Again Abundant Life Christian Center, where she was a member. Elder Mack Burnett will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.

Mrs. Lowe died Thursday (May 25, 2000) at her home.
She was born Aug. 25, 1906, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Henry and Mary Graves.
Her husband, John Albert Lowe Sr., whom she married
in 1923, is deceased.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lonzyo Lowe Sr., Lee Irvin and Hattie Jo Lowe, all of Chicago, Nathan and Rose Lowe of Hopkins Park; four daughters, Sylvia Hines, Lula Peters, Rio Burt and Elinor Pierce, all of Kankakee; 28 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Deceased are four sons, John Jr., Albert, Donald and Grady Lowe; one grandchild, Violet Peters; and one great-grandchild, Jamal Peters.
She enjoyed cooking and baking.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS - Cecelia Landry Gardner, 89, a longtime Chicago Heights resident, formerly of Bradley, died Sunday (May 28, 2000) at St. James Hospice, Chicago Heights.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (US Rt. 30) Chicago Heights, where services will be held at 10 a.m. The Rev. Ron Kondziolka will officiate.
Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Steger.
Mrs. Gardner worked as a salad chef for Lincolnshire Country Club, Crete, Chuck Cavallini's Restaurant in Midlothian, and the Holiday Inn in Bradley, retiring in 1986.
She was born May 16, 1911, in Bradley.
Surviving are three daughters, Arlene Pignatiello of Beecher, Maxine Howe of Chicago Heights, Sharon Walls of Camdenson, Mo.; five sons and daughters-in-law, James and June Gardner of Matteson, Robert and Connie Gardner of New Lenox, Mel and Bette Gardner of Longmont, Colo., Jerry and Joyce Gardner of West Covina, Calif., Michael and Rose Gardner of Burbank, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Lambert of Kankakee, Yvonne Benjamin of Vallejo, Calif.; 35 grandchildren, 51 great- grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Emma Marion and Lucy Welk; and two brothers, Lawrence and Oscar Landry.
She had worked at the Joliet Arsenal during World War II assembling parachutes.
Gertrude Swets
LANSING - Gertrude Swets, 88, of Lansing, died Tuesday (May 30, 2000) at Community Hospital, Munster, Ind.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at the Smits-DeYoung-Vroegh Chapel, 649 E. 162nd St., So. Holland, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Kevin Hossink will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery, Lansing.

She was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Thornton, the daughter of John and Carrie Van Der Griend Witvoet.
Her husband, Alvin Swets, died in 1990.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Patti Swets of Lynwood; one daughter and son-in- law, Karen and Daniel Anker of Manteno; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Swets was a member of Bethany Covenant United Reformed Church in South Holland.
Johnnie Sullivan
Visitation for Johnnie Clifford "Snake" Sullivan, 70, of Kankakee, will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. John Marvin will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Mr. Sullivan died Tuesday (June 20, 2000) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Mr. Sullivan retired from A.O. Smith in 1983 after 30 years of service.
He was born July 16, 1929, in Grenada, Miss., the son of Albert Sidney and Ada Estelle Gray Sullivan. His parents are deceased.
His wife, the former Ruth Norrine Bridenbaker, whom he married
March 8, 1950, in New Mexico, died in 1990.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Sidney J. and Diane Sullivan of Kankakee, Robert and Paula Sullivan of Indiana, Patrick Sullivan of Kankakee; three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Milford Wichelt of Bourbonnais, Barbara and Jim Haines of Oak Creek, Wis., Sharon and Gary Homberg of Kankakee; one brother and sister-in-law, Millard and Bonnie Sullivan of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; one sister, Virginia Chambley of Grenada, Miss.; three sisters-in-law, Marlene Sullivan of Bourbonnais, Earlene Sullivan and Myrna Sullivan, both of Kankakee; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Herbert and Fred Sullivan.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was very active in charitable and volunteer work with the Kankakee VFW and the Aroma Park American Legion. He was a life member of both.
