James Mackinson
KEMPTON -- James A. Mackinson Jr., 89, of Kempton, died Thursday (July 31, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Broughton Township cemetery, rural Kempton. Rev. Herb Thompson will officiate. Friends may visit with the family following the cemetery service at the Kempton Legion Hall. Memorials may be made to the Kempton American Legion. Arrangements are by Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home in Cullom. Mr. Mackinson was born Dec. 6, 1913 on the family farm in Broughton Township of Livingston County, the son of James A. and Jennie Elizabeth Thayer Mackinson. Sept. 8, 1943 in Chicago, of Kempton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Robert Rose of rural Kempton, Norma and Allen Arrington of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Ortman of Franklin, Tenn., and Gladys Mackinson of Glendale, Calif. One brother, Daniel Mackinson; and a sister, Ruth Mackinson, are deceased. Mr. Mackinson attended country school in Broughton Township and graduated from Kempton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater in the Transport Squad PAC 15. He was a lifelong farmer in the Kempton area, retiring in 1982, and a member of Kempton United Methodist Church, and a member of Olson-Bute American Legion Post 737.

COAL CITY -- Evelyn Marizza, 78, of Coal City, died Friday (Aug. 1, 2003) at Deerbrook Nursing Home in Joliet. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Rev. Mike Pennock will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Wilmington. Pallbearers will be Chuck, Jeff and Larry Quick, Richard, Rick and Mike Marizza. Memorials may be made to Coal City Baptist Church or Joliet Hospice in her name. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Deborah Marizza of Coal City; three grandchildren, Amie, Robyn and Scott Marizza, all of Coal City; one sister, Edith Quick of Kankakee; and many nieces and nephews. WATSEKA -- Billy J. Murray, 77, of Watseka, died Friday (Aug. 1, 2003) at the V.A. Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Baier Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. Masonic service, and also from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. service at the funeral home. Rev. Gary Milton will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Maple Grove cemetery in Milford. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Oct. 11, 1947 in Milford, died March 18, 1994. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Peggy Murray of Washington; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Weigel, Connie and Dale Durflinger, Carol Morin, all of Watseka, Debra Rinard of St. Anne, Sue Santelman and Steve Cross of Milford; two brothers-in-law, William Wilken of Milford, Donald Wilken of Watseka; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Murray, Cleo Wilken, both of Watseka; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gigi Lynan of Watseka. One daughter, Diana; one brother; and one great-grandson, are deceased. Mr. Murray was a truck driver for 36 years. He held an office in the Watseka Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Watseka VFW; a miniature van driver for the Mahomet Valley Shriners, and a member of the Danville Consistory. He served in the U.S. Army. He was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
Burton Rivett
SENECA -- Burton W. Rivett, 69, of Seneca, and the father of a Carbon Hill resident, died Monday (July 28, 2003) from cancer. Services were held July 31 at the First United Methodist Church in Seneca, where he was a member. Rev. Lora Zink officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery in Seneca. Pallbearers were Darryl Tedford, Rich Johnson, Louie Barla, Robbie Nieman, John Rivett and John HIggins. Honorary pallbearer was Bill Anderson. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Rivett was a welder at Caterpillar in Joliet for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He then worked at Ellis' True Value and Graves Lumber Yard, both in Seneca. He was born Jan. 7, 1934, in Seneca, the son of Ernest and Beatrice Spinney Rivett. His parents are deceased. Nov. 1, 1958, at the First Baptist Church in Marseilles; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gayla and Rick Barla of Seneca, Lauri and Jim Crawford of Carbon Hill, Tammy and Jim Roberts of Morris; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Briget Rivett of Seneca; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Seneca, Barbara and John Summers of Bloomington; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Charles and Isabell Rivett of Seneca, Robert and Pat Rivett of Marseilles and Dorothy Rivett of Seneca. Two brothers, John and Paul Rivett, are deceased. Mr. Rivett served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed spending time outdoors.

MOMENCE -- Audrey J. Sanders, 69, of Momence, died Friday (Aug. 1, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Monday until the 7 p.m. service at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be in Evergreen cemetery in Chicago. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Ms. Sanders was born Nov. 8, 1933 in Chicago, the daughter of Harry and Emma Levreau Sanders. Her parents are deceased. Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Betty Sanders of Momence, Lawrence and Ruth Ann Sanders of Beecher; and many nieces and nephews. One sister, Virginia Sanders, is deceased. Ms. Sanders had been a bookkeeper for the Mackin Corp. in Momence, and Dubois Automotive in Kankakee. She founded the Momence Youth Bowling League and taught bowling for over 40 years. She was a member of New Life Christian Church in Momence, Royal Neighbors of America and T.O.P.S. She enjoyed bowling, collected ceramic elephants, and salt and pepper shakers.
Margarite Steward
CHICAGO -- Margarite Steward, 85, of Chicago, and a former 21-year resident of the St. Anne Wood Community in Pembroke, died July 14, 2003. Services were held July 19 at the First Baptist Church in Chicago, where she was a member. Rev. Jesse M. Brown officiated. Burial was in Burr Oaks cemetery in Alsip. Mrs. Steward was a domestic technician for an Aroma Park family and was a mental health technician at Manteno Mental Health Center. She was born July 24, 1918, in Yazoo, Miss., the daughter of Jack and Susie Johnson. Her husband, Herbert Lewis Steward, is deceased. Surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives in the area. One sister and one brother are deceased. She and her husband joined Union Baptist Church in Pembroke in 1955, where she was a member of the gospel choir and served on the deacon's board.
Gertrude Stoffel Gertrude Buckner Stoffel, 86, of Bradley, formerly of Gilman, died Saturday (Aug. 2, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

WATSEKA -- James Lee Sturm, 58, of Watseka, died Friday (Aug. 1, 2003) at his home. At Mr. Sturm's request, there will be no visitation. Private family services will be held. Inurnment will be in National cemetery, Danville. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Arrangements are by Baier Funeral Home, Watseka. Mr. Sturm was the son of Marvin Walter and Marie E. Schaumburg Sturm. Surviving in addition to his parents of Watseka are one son, Jason J. Sturm of Watseka; one daughter, Candace Caron of Martinton; one granddaughter; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joyce and Ronald McCullough of Martinton, Jan Sturm of Watseka; and two nieces. Mr. Sturm was a retired heavy equipment operator and enjoyed model trains. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War with the Seabees.

Services for Elsie "Dottie" O'Lena, 76, of Kankakee, were held July 31 at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne. Rev. Clinton Sweet officiated. Mrs. O'Lena died July 29, 2003. A funeral Mass for Jace B. Lillis, 21, of Bourbonnais, was celebrated July 30 at Maternity BVM Catholic Church, Bourbonnais. Rev. Gino Donatelli and Chaplain Thomas Ross officiated. Mr. Lillis died July 26, 2003. Burial was in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were Ryan Lillis, B.J. PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A funeral Mass for Darwin A. Wasmer, 86, of Plymouth Township, Mich., formerly of Gilman, was celebrated Aug. 1 at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilman. Rev. John Balluff officiated. Mr. Wasmer died July 27, 2003. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in Gilman. Fleming Warman
Fleming C. Warman, 98, of Galesburg, died Friday, (Aug. 1, 2003) at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg. He was born Aug. 5, 1904 in Rush, Ky., the son of Waitman and Mary Elizabeth Eastham Warman. He married
Emma Lee West in 1926 in Texas. He later married
Mary E. Franklin on April 16, 1957 in Kankakee. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Chadwick "Lynn" (and Janet) Warman, Venice, Fla., 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Fleming Douglas Warman, a daughter, Mary Lee Blount, 3 brothers, and 8 sisters. He lived in the Kankakee area for over 40 years and last worked as a security guard for Bear Brand Hosiery Company in Kankakee for 12 years. He retired in 1967. He was an active member of the Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene, where he served as Sunday school teacher and a visitation minister for 13 years. After moving to Galesburg in 1999, he became a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Ron Scarlett will officiate. Visitation will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials can be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg or a charity of the donor's choice.
