CISSNA PARK -- Charles Henry Smith, 89, formerly of Cissna Park, died July 7, 2003 at the University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Goodwine Methodist Church. Burial will be in Amity cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Goodwine Methodist Church. Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith worked in farm management for the Farm Management Bureau and farmed until his retirement. He was president of the Milford 4-H Fair and had served as county 4-H leader. He was born April 27, 1914, in Cissna Park, the son of Daniel Aaron and Selma Johnson Smith. Surviving are his wife, Mary Eleanor; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosalie and Don Heineman of Chapel Hill, N.C., Jane and Arthur Slaven of Glencoe; and four grandchildren. He was a graduate of Urbana High School and the University of Illinois. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Urbana, Danville Consistory, Delta Phi Fraternity and the Champaign County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Stoots was a communications technician and a former firefighter for the Bourbonnais Village Fire Department. He was born June 13, 1949, in Joplin, Mo., the son of A.E. and Jewel Willis Stoots. His father is deceased. His wife, the former Virginia A. Rish, whom he married
Oct. 17, 1968, before leaving for Vietnam, died Jan. 6, 2003. Surviving are one son, Jason D. Stoots of Hyannis, Mass.; his mother of Joplin, Mo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Chris Stoots of Tulsa, Okla. and Austin and Lois Stoots of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Stoots served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in action. He enjoyed scuba diving and traveling.

Gerald "Gerry" J. Bovie, 74, of Bourbonnais, died Monday (July 21, 2003) at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital, after a short illness. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, where he was a member. Burial will be in the St. Anne Catholic cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Bovie was a longtime builder in the area and had retired from Armour Pharmaceutial after 27 years of service. He worked part-time at David Bruce. Following his retirement, he was the number one fan of his grandchildren's sporting events. He was born June 23, 1929, in St. Anne, the son of Pat and Rosella Caise Bovie. His parents are deceased. Surviving are one son and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Gloria Brosseau of Glendale, Ariz., Nancy Brosseau of Orland Park; four grandchildren, Craig and Tyra Brosseau of Eden Prairie, Minn., Jeff and Danielle Brosseau of Ashville, Ala., Denise and Ward Cauthren of Peoria, Ariz., and Mike Brosseau of Mesa, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Bennet Brosseau, Jacob and Nathan Cauthren; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Piatt of Bradley and Joyce Healy of Sugar Grove. One son, David V. Brosseau; four brothers, Walter, Ralph, Richard and Robert Piatt; and one sister, Louise Goepper, are deceased. She was a 1935 graduate of Kankakee High School. Mrs. Brosseau was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Women's Society. She was active in the Willow Twig of Riverside Medical Center Auxiliary. Mrs. Brosseau will be remembered for her expertise at bridge and for her volunteer service with Meals on Wheels.
