PLAINFIELD -- Shirley Hatch, 79, of Plainfield, and the mother of a Kankakee resident, died Sunday (July 20, 2003). Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave. in Chicago, where services will be held at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Memory Gardens cemetery in Arlington Heights. Her husband, Robert Hatch, is deceased. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Lance Beigh of Kankakee; one son, Robert Hatch Jr. and Patty Thorne of Plainfield; five grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine E. Blacketer of Chicago; one nephew and two great-nephews.

PONTIAC -- Harry V. Lenz, 92, of Pontiac, formerly of Danforth, died Saturday (July 19, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Jason Woolever will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Pontiac. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Livingston County Health Department. Mr. Lenz ran a grocery store in Pontiac for six years and managed three service stations. He was a gasoline distributor for Mobil Oil Company in Pontiac for 16 years and was later employed at Pontiac Stone, where he retired in 1976. He was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Danforth, the son of Paul and Ida Kimmel Lenz. His wife, the former Ella M. Spray, whom he married
Sept. 4, 1935, in Watseka, died Jan. 1, 1997. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Art Knapp and Karen and Roy Sexton, all of Pontiac; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. One son, Stanley Crews; three sisters; and one brother, are deceased. He was educated in Brooks School in Cullom. Mr. Lenz was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pontiac. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge for 50 years, where he served as a past officer; a legionnaire of the Pontiac Moose and a life member of the Fellowship Degree of the Moose. He was a former member of the Pontiac Elks Club and Pontiac Sportsmans Club. He was a Cubs fan, gardener and fisherman.

A funeral Mass for Josephine Raspolich, 83, of Kankakee, was celebrated July 18 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Settles officiated. Mrs. Raspolich died July 15, 2003. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were William Jr., Joseph and Michael Powers, Jeff Mazick, John Azzarelli and James Raspolich.

Redding officiated. Mr. Giddings died July 12, 2003. Burial was in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. CULLOM -- Services for Daniel Kyburz, 82, of Cullom, were held July 19 at the Cullom United Methodist Church. Rev. Herb Thompson officiated. Mr. Kyburz died July 16, 2003. Burial was in the Chatsworth cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Flessner, Gary Hamilton, Roger Read, Mike Haberkorn, Dick Mills and Ronald Deany. WILMINGTON -- Services for Frank Howard Goodwin, 82, of rural Wilmington, were held July 21 at the United Methodist Church in Wilmington. Revs. David Lagos-Fonseca and Shirley Pulgar-Hughes officiated. Mr. Goodwin died July 16, 2003. Burial was in Wesley Township cemetery in Ritchie. Pallbearers were Scott, Matthew, Jaime, Jeff and Jillian Goodwin and Kathryn, Michael and Edward Traub. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan and Devin Goodwin.

ONARGA -- Eldrid E. Niswander, 82, of Onarga, died Saturday (July 19, 2003) at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City. Visitation will be private. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Onarga cemetery. Rev. John Story will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Gibson Area Hospital and Healthcare or to the Gilman Church of the Nazarene. Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Niswander was a proof reader for the Louis Melind Co. in Onarga, retiring after 30 years of service. She was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Onarga, the daughter of Fred and Mathilda Enghausen Oldridge. Feb. 10, 1940, in Kentland, Ind., died March 7, 1983. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Tondra Niswander of Onarga; one daughter, Ruth Humphrey of Melvin; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. Mrs. Niswander was a member of the Gilman Church of the Nazarene.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee, where he was a member and usher. Burial will be in All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Raymond managed the Super Wash car washes in Kankakee, Bradley and Aroma Park, for the past 10 years. He retired from A.O. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Patrick's Central High School in Kankakee and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in Irwin, the Holy Name Society and a former CCD teacher. Mr. Raymond had been active with the Bonfield/Limestone Little League, where he was a former coach, umpire and past president. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling and being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching the Cubs and Bears.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Dr. Gjertrud Margrethe Hjorth Smith, 95, former principal of Chatsworth High School, died Monday (July 14, 2003) in Kansas City, Mo. Cremation rites will be accorded. Mrs. Smith worked in the Los Angeles School District for 43 years, acting as a teacher, supervisor of science and math, girl's vice principal and principal at several high schools, retiring as principal of Chatsworth High School. Her husband, Robert L. Smith, is deceased. Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Little; one brother, George Hjorth; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. One sister, Alice Neilson; two brothers, Harry Hjorth and Rolf Hjorth; and one son-in-law, Richard Little, are deceased.

Mrs. Berry worked as a teacher's aide in the Rochester elementary schools in SAS education. She was born April 3, 1951, in Fairbury, the daughter of Gerald and Monica Monahan Kemmer. GOODRICH, Mich. -- Harold F. Curtis, 76, of Goodrich, Mich., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the relative of area residents, died Friday (July 11, 2003) from prostate and bone cancer at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Services were held July 16 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service was held July 19 at the First Baptist Church in Goodrich. Revs. Tim Curtis and Philip Tharp officiated. Mr. Curtis managed the Eagles Grocery Store for 25 years until his retirement. He was born March 21, 1927, in Gibson City, the son of Henry and Gertrude Collette Curtis. His wife of 44 years, Joyce, is deceased. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Timothy and Cindy Curtis and Mark Curtis, all of Goodrich, Mich.; one daughter, Kristin Hodges of Tiffin, Iowa; five grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Hicks of Bloomington. One brother and three sisters are deceased. Mr. Curtis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He played semi-pro football and was in the Military Olympics for track. He enjoyed horseback riding, showing horses, doing game events and fishing.
