Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Eric Livingston will officiate. Burial will be in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery, Braceville. Mrs. Phillips died Sunday (June 29, 2003) at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was born May 6, 1943, in Mill Shoals, the daughter of Pleasant and Geneva Gibbs Vaughan. Her parents are deceased. Her husband of 31 years, Troy Neal Phillips, is deceased. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Corinne Phillips of Braceville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Joe Smothers, Lisa and David Sylvester, all of Joliet, Lori and Gustavo Phillips of Shorewood, Rhonda and Mike Hazel of Joliet, Amanda and Mike Phillips of Braceville; five grandchildren; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Janice Vaughan of Manhattan, Don and Jeanie Vaughan of Fairfield, Junior and Dixie Vaughan of Mill Shoals, Tom and Pat Vaughan, Fred and Pat Vaughan, all of Fairfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and John Klaffer of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Jim Vaughan and Lee Vaughan; and one sister, Elsie Mae Vaughan, are deceased. She was a member of the Braceville Elementary School Board.

CHATSWORTH -- Nathan Sargeant, 9, formerly of Chatsworth, died in a house fire in St. Elmo, where he was living since the death of his mother, Rose Sargeant on April 7, 2003. A memorial service was held June 24 at the First Assembly of God Church in Vandalia. His ashes will be buried at the Mona Township cemetery in Kempton at a later date. He was born Jan. 2, 1994. Surviving are two brothers, Jim Sargeant of Champaign, Tom Sargeant of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Cindy Sargeant of Decatur, Becky Sargeant of Moline, Amy Sargeant of Kankakee; and one uncle and aunt, Lee and Connie Roberson of Bourbonnais. His maternal grandparents, Harvey and Ruby Roberson, are deceased.

A funeral Mass for Edna H. Chouinard, 87, of Kankakee, was celebrated July 2 at St. Rose of LIma Catholic Church. Mrs. Chouinard died June 28, 2003. Burial was in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were Jay Christensen, Mitchell and Jeffrey Chouinard and Richard Fischer. Leonard Dauphin Services for Leonard Dauphin, 70, of Kankakee, were held July 2 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Deacon Andy Berg officiated. Mr. Dauphin died June 28, 2003. Burial was in Maternity BVM cemetery, Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were David Regnier, Eric Derossett, Kelly Stone, Della Ziller, LuAnn Scudder and Karen Kowalski.

WILMINGTON -- Benjamin C. Wilson Sr., 83, of Wilmington, died Monday (June 30, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at the Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Burial, with military honors by the U.S. Army, will be in Oakwood cemetery, Wilmington. Memorials may be made to the Pentecost Church of Wilmington or to the Joliet Area Community Hospice. Mr. Wilson was a former employee of Wilmington Township Road Departmant, Lund Bus Services and the Joliet Arsenal. He was born June 9, 1920, in Nokomis, the son of Everett and Lula Howell Wilson. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Opal Mae Rhodes; one son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin C. Jr. and Mary Wilson of Wilmington; three grandchildren; four sisters, Beulah Whitehead of Maryland, Clara Keys of Louisiana, Elnora Smith of Mississippi, Elsie McCallister of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. One grandson, Timothy; one brother, Paul; and two sisters, Susie Arnold and Evelyn Mayhall, are deceased. Mr. Wilson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was pastor emeritus of the Pentecost Church of Wilmington.

Steve Bondi will officiate. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Mrs. Lestina was a registered nurse who had worked at nursing homes and in private healthcare. She was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Joliet, the daughter of Ole and Irene Johnson Vogen. Surviving are her husband, George R. Lestina Sr., whom she married

ST. CHARLES -- Christopher Joseph Manley, 35, of St. Charles, and the son of a South Wilmington resident, died Wednesday (June 25, 2003) in Encino, Calif. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the 3 p.m. services at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel. Rev. Greg Linkous will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will be private. Mr. Manley was a free lance carpenter. He was also an arborer, had restored old homes and was skilled in fire restoration. He was born Jan. 7, 1968 at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo. Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine Thomason, of St. Charles; three daughters, Tiffany, Kimberly and Brittany; his mother, Suzanne M. Lee of South Wilmington; stepfather, William H. Zacharias Sr. of Oswego; three brothers, William Zacharias of Custer Park, David Zacharias of Lockport, Stephen Zacharias of South Wilmington; one sister, Andrea Zacharias of Custer Park; nieces and nephews; maternal grandmother, Florence M. Lee of South Wilmington; paternal grandfather, Joseph P. Manley of Deming, N.M.; and aunts and uncles. His father, Joseph B. Manley; stepfather, Byron E. "Bud" Odom; sister-in-law, Sabrina Zacharias; maternal grandfather, Edward B. Lee; paternal grandmother, Catherine J. Manley; and cousin, Michael, are deceased. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.

SHELBYVILLE -- Charles L. Phelps, 83, of Shelbyville, and the grandfather of a Coal City resident, died June 20, 2003 at Shelbyville Manor. Services were held June 25 at the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Rev. Robert Litteral officiated. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Mr. Phelps retired as a fire inspector from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet. He worked for several years as an ambulance attendant for the East Joliet Volunteer Fire Department and Kurtz Ambulance Service in Joliet. He formerly worked as a train conductor, a bus driver for the city of Joliet and for several years as a prison guard for the Illinois Department of Corrections. After moving to Shelbyville in 1984, he worked at Lockart and Sons Funeral Homes. He was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Shelbyville, the son of Luther and Bertha Spracklen Phelps. She was later employed at Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac. She was born May 21, 1919, in Clifty, Ky., the daughter of Lucian M. and Annie Marie McPherson McGehee. Her husband, Delmar W. Three sisters, Lottie Hudziak, Sophie Niemaszyck and Victoria Cichy, are deceased. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge 851. Mr. Cichy served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing, gardening and dogs.
