PAXTON -- Ottilie D. Gibbons, 95, of Rankin, brother of a Hoopeston resident, died Saturday (July 5, 2003) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. service at Ford-Baier Funeral Home in Paxton. Rev. Barbara Busboom will officiate. Surviving are one stepson, Ed Gibbons of Gibson City; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy Seidel of Rankin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lucille and Ray Klein of Rankin, Frances Long of Hoopeston, Marjorie and Myron Feitshans of Urbana; six stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

COAL CITY -- Ella Jisa, 95, of Coal City, died Friday (July 4, 2003) at Grundy County Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Rev. Mike Pennock will officiate. A luncheon will be held at the Berst Center following the Mass. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Wilmington following the luncheon. Memorials in her name may be made to Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City. Mrs. Jisa was born Jan. 13, 1908 in Chicago, the daughter of Ladislav and Agnes Kytlica Zajicek. Her husband, Frank J. Jisa, whom she married June 19, 1935 at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, is deceased. They lived all their married life in Coal City. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Friedle of Diamond; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Charlene Jisa of Aromas, Calif.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews. One grandson, Michael Friedle; two sisters, Mary Vilt and Agnes Zajicek; two nieces and two nephews, are deceased. She worked as a secretary in Chicago until 1935. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Coal City High School Band Parents, and the Mothers Study Club.

A funeral Mass for Deborah "Debi" A. LaRocque, 51, of Bourbonnais, was celebrated today at Maternity BVM Catholic Church, Bourbonnais, where she was a member. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley. Arrangements were by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais Mrs. LaRocque died Wednesday (July 2, 2003) at her home. She was a second-grade teacher at Shabonna Grade School. She was born Nov. 10, 1951 in Peoria, the daughter of Charles A. and Norma J. Guth Thurman. Surviving are her husband, David L. LaRocque of Bourbonnais, whom she married May 4, 1974 in Peoria; one son, David J. LaRocque of Bourbonnais; her parents of Peoria; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Barbara and David Masters of Peoria, Bill and Melody LaRocque of Kankakee; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Charles Thurman of Palm Coast, Fla., Kathy and Jim Regnier of Bourbonnais, Mary Margaret Cunningham of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Audrey LaRocque of Kankakee. She received her bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and her master's degree from Olivet Nazarene University. She mentored for the master's program at ONU in curriculum. She enjoyed traveling, cycling and walking.

A funeral Mass for Genevieve F. Steinhart Plante, 80, of Kankakee, was celebrated July 2 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Kankakee. Rev. Richard Pighini officiated. Mrs. Plante died June 28, 2003. Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery in Aroma Township. Pallbearers were Scott and Mike Dilday, Ricky Baud, Erik Holtz, Brent Laird and Bryan Farmer. Joshua Kohler ASHKUM -- Services for Joshua W. "Josh" Kohler, 21, of Crescent City, formerly of Ashkum, were held July 3 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Josh died June 30, 2003. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in Chebanse. Pallbearers were A.J. Dixon, Travis Kohler, Tim Jamar, Scott Ducat, Andy Kitchens and Andrew Kellogg. Honorary pallbearers were Chad and Darrin Kohler, Mark Krutsinger, Mike Bussian and Donald Hillaery. Brian Pocica WATSEKA -- Services for Brian J. Pocica, 36, of Watseka, were held July 3 at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Brent Helwig officiated. Mr. Pocica died June 29, 2003. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery in Watseka. Pallbearers were David Bruning, Poody Kessinger, Bill Kreznor, Dennis and Ron Pocica, and Mike Warren.

WATSEKA -- Services for Ronald L. Hutchings, 71, of Watseka, were held July 5 at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Guy Storm officiated. Mr. Hutchings died July 1, 2003. Burial was in Flesher cemetery in Crescent City. Pallbearers were Mike, James, Butch and Jeff Hutchings, Mark Hellein and Barney Rausch. Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin and Josiah Hutchings, Jon Mark Vincent, Edward Krown, Kurt Sumner, Matthew and Tommy Glenn.

Carl Mosley

Carl Mosley, 54, of Kankakee, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at Manorcare Health Services. He is survived by his wife, Halsie. Services are tentatively set for Saturday. Arrangements are pending at Lax Mortuary.

CRESCENT CITY -- Margaret "Maggie" Oberloh, 50, of Crescent City, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at her home. Visitation is tentatively set for 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Crescent City.

Richard Pilarski, plant manager

ROSELAWN, Ind. -- Richard S. Pilarski, 70, of Roselawn, Ind., formerly of Pembroke and the St. Anne area, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, Ind. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Jackson Funeral Service, 200 Third St. SW, DeMotte, Ind., with a 4:30 p.m. prayer service. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in DeMotte, Ind. Rev. Paul Wicklum will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery of the Resurrection. Memorials may be made to St. Cecilia Catholic Church in DeMotte, Ind. He was plant manager at Permonite Manufacturing for 27 years before retiring. Mr. Pilarski was born May 4, 1933 in Pembroke, the son of Stanley Pilarski and Irene Pawloski Chandler. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Gloria Arseneau, whom he married Sept. 28, 1963 in Bourbonnais; of Roselawn, Ind.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Maria and Mark Odle of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Diana and Eric Johnson of Hamilton, Ohio, Joanna Bevilacqua of Garrett, Ind.; one son, Stephen Pilarski of Redondo Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Phyllis Pilarski of Momence; one stepbrother, James and Janet Stadt of Mobile, Ala.; and two stepsisters, Pam and Ken Kebert of Grant Park, Cheryl and Richard Korthauer of Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Pilarski served during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the American Legion in Indiana. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, where he was involved in the Men's Club.

ST. BERNICE, Ind. -- Edith E. Sain, 83, of Kankakee, formerly of St. Bernice, Ind., died Saturday (July 5, 2003) at her daughter's home in Kankakee. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at First Funeral Home in Clinton, and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the 10 a.m. service at St. Bernice Nazarene Church. Revs. Larry Stover and Todd Peeler will co-officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery. Mrs. Sain was born June 12, 1920 in Johnson County, Ark., the daughter of Levi and Florence Chesser Burnett. Her husband, Woodrow Sain, died Oct. 6, 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Hayward of Kankakee, Kathryn Mooy of Warrior, Ala.; five sons, William Sain of Compton, Mo., Charles Sain of Collinsville, Okla, Kenneth Sain of Momence, Bob Sain of Mounds, Minn., David Sain of St. Anne; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Brown and Beatrice Richey, of Russellville, Ark., Ruth Harper of North Carolina, Gladys Berry of Clinton; a brother, Elwood Burnett of Russellville, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. One son, Richard Sain, is deceased. Mrs. Sain worked for the Ko Pack Company in Kokomo, Ind., for over 20 years. She was a member of the St. Bernice Nazarene Church and the Prime Timers. She was also a member of the Westbrook Nazarene Church in Kankakee.

AMARILLO, Texas -- Mabel G. Scivally, 87, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Wilmington, died Saturday (July 5, 2003) in Amarillo. Graveside services were held today at Llano cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. Memorials may be made in her name to Tulsa Pettit Wooley Memorial Scholarship, Chapter Z, PEO, c/o Janice Poli, 2409 Hughes, Amarillo, Texas 79109. Arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home in Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Scivally operated the "Your Truly Beauty Nook" in Wilmington during the 1940s and 50s. She also worked over 25 years for the Wilmington School District in the cafeteria, retiring as a baker in 1978. Mrs. Scivally was born Jan. 21, 1916 in Stonefort, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Millie Martin Allott, moving to Wilmington as a small child and graduating from Wilmington High School in 1933. Her husband, Walter G. Scivally, whom she married May 24, 1952 in Joliet, died July 7, 2000. Surviving are two sisters, Millie Y. Allott, Juanita J. Reavis, both of Wilmington; two brothers, Albert Allott Jr. of Mossville, Leroy J. Allott of Wilmington; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. One son, Walter Stephen Scivally (1953); and four brothers, Harold, Lowell, Chester Dwight and Henry France Martin (in infancy), are deceased. She was a charter member of PEO, Chapter GK, and remained active in the Chapter Z in Amarillo, Texas, after moving there with her husband in 1980. She was a past matron and 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a past member of the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington, and was a member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Amarillo.

Albertina Thornburg

WATSEKA -- Albertina "Betty" Thornburg, 75, of Watseka, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at Covenant Medical Center in Champaign. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. service. Rev. David Todd will officiate. Burial will be in GAR cemetery in Watseka. Memorials may be made to St. Judes, First Christian Church or the donor's choice. Mrs. Thornburg was born Oct. 21, 1927 in Oxnard, Calif., the daughter of Tony and Albertina Garcia. Surviving are five daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Thornburg, Effie Stone and Jenny Sagmeister, both of Watseka, Judy Fulk of Texas, Sarah and Tom Stimpson of Georgia; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. One grandson is deceased. Mrs. Thornburg did factory work and was a cook. She was a member of AARP, worked in the church, was a member of the Watseka Ladies Auxiliary and First Christian Church in Watseka.

JOLIET -- Robert C. Thornton, of Joliet, formerly of Wilmington, died Thursday (July 3, 2003) at Deerbrook Care Center. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Rd. in Joliet. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood. Memorials may be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Alzheimer's Association or the Fighting Illini Scholarship Fund. He was an accountant in Joliet for over 40 years, and owned his own firm for over 20 years. He served on the Board of the Illinois and American Society of CPAs, was past president for the Center for the Economic Development and was a member of Joliet Area Region Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Thornton was born in Joliet, the son of Corlett and Bernadette Hermes Thornton. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy Hoover; children, David Thornton, Deborah Thornton, Dawn and Ryan Kingston; one grandson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou and Gary Cooper of Deerfield, Marge and John Flynn of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews. He helped with the United Way of Will County Campaign Fund and the George Werden Buck Boys Club, and was a member of the Rotary Club of Joliet and the Provena St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation. He was very involved in the Diocese of Joliet. He was a recipient of an honorary "Varsity I" from the University of Illinois and was past chairman of the Fighting Illini Scholarship Fund. Mr. Thornton served with the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis.

WATSEKA -- Visitation for Debra L. Walker, 36, of Watseka, will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Van Haas will officiate. Memorials may be made to her children's trust funds. Mrs. Walker died Friday (July 4, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was born July 19, 1966 in Brook, Ind., the daughter of Lloyd and LaVerne Wolfenden Burnside. Her father is deceased. She married Ronald Walker in Watseka. Surviving are her mother of Sheldon; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Donald and Tammy Burnside of Florida, Mike Burnside and friend Tammy Wheeler of Oklahoma, Frank Burnside of Kentland, Ind.; two sisters, Michelle Burnside and friend Joe Walter of Donovan, Laura Leah Cobbs of Momence; two sons, Aaron Hill of Donovan, Danie Walker of Watseka; a special friend, Melodee Davenport of Watseka; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts. One brother, Bobby, is deceased. Mrs. Walker enjoyed writing poetry, music, collecting bears, bells and ceramic houses.
