WATSEKA -- Services for Ronald L. Hutchings, 71, of Watseka, were held July 5 at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Guy Storm officiated. Mr. Hutchings died July 1, 2003. Burial was in Flesher cemetery in Crescent City. Pallbearers were Mike, James, Butch and Jeff Hutchings, Mark Hellein and Barney Rausch. Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin and Josiah Hutchings, Jon Mark Vincent, Edward Krown, Kurt Sumner, Matthew and Tommy Glenn.
Debra Walker
WATSEKA -- Debra L. Burnside Walker, 36, of Watseka, died Friday (July 4, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. Arrangements are pending at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Dale Asher
Dale Asher, 90, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (Aug. 20, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Tentative arrangements have been made for Friday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee.
William Callahan
International Harvester executive
PARK RIDGE -- William Edward Callahan, 84, of Park Ridge, formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (Aug. 17, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today at the Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul of the Cross Church.
Burial will be in All Saints cemetery.
He was born in Rensselaer, Ind.
His wife, Maxine, formerly of Kankakee, is deceased.
Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sharon Therieau, Sheila and Bruce Morgan, Kathleen and William Tobin, Christy Callahan Pfeifer and Andrew Pfeifer; one son and daughter-in-law, William E. Jr. and Joanne Callahan; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Callahan.
He attended St. Joseph College in Rensselaer.
Mr. Callahan joined the International Trucking Company, formerly International Harvester Company, in 1937. He began his career in the Kankakee district sales office and climbed the corporate ladder to the position of executive vice president of the former International Harvester Trucking Division. He was named vice chairman of the former International Harvester Motor Truck Division in 1977 and was asked to serve on the company's board of directors.
He also served as a director on several other corporate boards including LaSalle National Bank of Chicago, Sun Electric Corporation, Kysor of Michigan, DAK of Holland and TCI Industries.
Callahan was chairman of the Board of Transportation of America and a director of the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association of the United States. He actively supported the American Trucking Association and was often a featured speaker at ATA conventions.
After he retired, he launched a monthly magazine for motor truck dealers and distributors called "Successful Dealer." He served as editor of this publication until 2001.
Mr. Callahan was affiliated with St. Paul of the Cross Church, Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church and St. Vincent Church in Delray Beach, Fla.
He was a member of the Park Ridge Country Club and enjoyed traveling.
Joanne Marlin
Visitation for Alice Joanne Marlin, 60, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Cotter Funeral Home, Momence, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. Benjamin Baker will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mrs. Marlin died Monday (Aug. 19, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
She was born April 7, 1942, in Momence, the daughter of Frank and Mary Denton Roberts. Her father is deceased.
Her husband, Gary D. Marlin, whom she married
Sept. 12, 1962, in South Carolina, died Oct. 28, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Dawn Marlin and Kelli and Carl Johnson, all of Kankakee; four granddaughters, Lindsay, Alyssa and Kylie Johnson and Zoe Lillig, all of Kankakee; her mother, Mary Davis of Momence; and one brother and sister-in-law, John and Bev Roberts of Grant Park.
Mrs. Marlin was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts and gardening.
Shirley Ryan
GILMAN -- Shirley Ryan, 99, of Gilman, died Tuesday (Aug. 20, 2002) at her home.
Arrangements are pending at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman.
Joseph Soto
Joseph Soto, 52, of Bourbonnais, died Wednesday (Aug. 14, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital emergency room.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in Homewood cemetery.
Arrangements are by Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors, Kankakee.
He was born Sept. 3, 1949.
One sister, Tina Nicpon of Chicago, survives.
Grace Eby
Services for Grace E. Eby, 89, of Macon, formerly of Bradley, were held Aug. 20 at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Tom Wilber officiated.
Mrs. Eby died Aug. 16, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Marvin C. Barber Jr., John L. Maas, Joseph Williams, Dennis R. Eby, Paul J. Eby II and Bruce Schreffler.
Glenn Reutter
CISSNA PARK -- Services for Glenn E. Reutter, 67, of Milford, were held Aug. 20 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Milford. Revs. Mark Lohnes and Don Stuckwisch officiated.
Mr. Reutter died Aug. 17, 2002.
Burial, with graveside military rites by the Cissna Park American Legion, was in Maple Grove cemetery, Milford. Pallbearers were Bill Hudgens, Jim Reutter, Tom and Dick Swing, Dale Carley, Carl Teig, Lester Crow and Roger Schuldt.
Carol Angell
CULLOM -- Carol Marie Angell, 21, of Cullom, formerly of Pontiac, died Sunday (Aug. 18, 2002) from injuries sustained in an auto accident in rural Pontiac.
Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the 2 p.m. services at the Hager Memorial Home in Forrest. Rev. Kim Earnst will officiate.
Burial will be in Forrest cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Miss Angell was a certified nurses aide. She formerly worked at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1981, in Fairbury, the daughter of Bob G. and Tena Deering Angell. Her mother is deceased.
Surviving are her father; one sister, Tasha Renee Angell of Pontiac; one brother, Bobbie Angell Jr. of Pontiac; grandmothers, Shirley Raymer of Forrest and Carol Marshall of Gardner; grandfather, Bob Angell Sr.; and one aunt, Lisa Folk of Forrest.
Miss Angell attended Heartland College and studied nursing and graphic arts. She also wrote poetry.
She attended Faith Fellowship in Fairbury.
Hazel Feast
WATSEKA -- Hazel Feast, 55, of Watseka, died today (Aug. 20, 2002) at Magnolia Wood Health Care Center, Watseka.
Arrangements are pending at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka.
Evan Gradberg
FAIRFIELD BAY, Ark. -- Evan Burleigh Gradberg, 84, of Fairfield Bay, Ark., formerly of Joliet, and the father of a Kankakee resident, died Sunday (Aug. 18, 2002).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Joliet, and from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Joliet, where he was a charter member. Rev. William Mitschke will officiate.
Burial will be in Hills of Rest cemetery.
Mr. Gradberg retired from the Public Service Company after 43 years of service.
He was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Dunnell, Minn., the son of Evald John and Bertha Carlson Gradberg.
His wife of 43 years, the former Louise Snyder, died in 1987.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas Gradberg of Fairfield Bay, Mark and Kathleen Gradberg of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Janeane and Don Stewart of Lonoke, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and companion, Mardell Timmerman.
One brother, Roger, died in 1939.
He was a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Joliet Legion Band for over 20 years, serving one term as vice-president. He played trombone in a seniors dance band in Fairfield Bay and with a church brass group.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kankakee and Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Fairfield Bay. He was also a member of the Fairfield Bay Lions Club.
Mr. Gradberg had taught continuing education classes for the Kankakee School District.
He enjoyed golfing.
