Arthur Petrarca
CHICAGO HEIGHTS -- Arthur N. Petrarca, 78, a lifelong resident of Chicago Heights, died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Infant Jesus of Prague Church in Flossmoor.
Burial was in Homewood Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home, Manteno or to Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk, 4709 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie, IL 60076.
Mr. Petrarca was the owner of Petrarca's Grocery Store on 22nd Street in Chicago Heights. He was also employed by the State of Illinois Department of Transportation for 20 years and Bloom Township Clerk for eight years.
He was born Oct. 7, 1923 in Chicago Heights.
Surviving are his wife, the former Aldona Mitchell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Dennis McSherry of Hoffman Estates, Gay Lynn and Tom Essig of Flossmoor; two sons and daughters-in-law, Art and Julie Petrarca of Naperville, Michael and Diane Petrarca of Elmwood Park; one sister, Mary Bullaro of Chicago Heights; two brothers, Mike Petrarca of Chicago Heights, Albert Petrarca of Olympia Fields; and 12 grandchildren.
One brother-in-law, Tom Bullaro; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Petrarca and Madelyn Petrarca, are deceased.
He was a 1941 graduate of Bloom Township High School and a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.
Mr. Petrarca was past commander and treasurer for 19 years of Catholic War Veterans Post 1060; member of American Legion Post 131, VFW Post 2825 and Italian American Military Veterans.
He was a member of St. Casimir Church and a former member of St. Rocco Church and Infant Jesus of Prague Church.
Daniel Robisky
ODELL -- Daniel R. Robisky, 47, of Odell, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) from injuries received in a motorcycle accident near Odell.
State police at Pontiac said Robisky was northbound on U.S. 66 at county road 2800N. when his Honda Goldwing left the roadway and entered a ditch. Robisky was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arrangements are pending at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
Mary Schmalz
Mary G. Schmalz, 87, formerly of Dolton, and the mother of a Kankakee resident, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home, 13820 Lincoln Ave., Dolton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Her husband, Richard D. Schmalz, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard P. and Jane Schmalz of Kankakee, Harold D. Schmalz of Hammond, Ind.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Terry Johnson of LaPorte, Ind., Mary Ann and Tim McDougal of Rockford; one sister, Olive Call of California; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Paul and Harry Moore, are deceased.
She loved playing bingo and her flower garden.
Barbara Boomsma
WAUPUN, Wis. -- Barbara Boomsma, 69, of Waupun, Wis., formerly of Grant Park, died Thursday (Aug. 22, 2002) at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wis.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun., and from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the 10:30 a.m. service at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. Rev. Jeff Brower will officiate.
Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery in Waupun.
Mrs. Boomsma was born Aug. 15, 1933 in Grant Park, the daughter of Luther and Stella Bilyard Keen. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Ted Boomsma, whom she married
June 21, 1950 in Wichert, of Waupun; one son and daughter-in-law, Rich and Rebecca Boomsma of Oakland, N.J.; one daughter, Susan Boomsma of Waupun; five grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rodney and Rose Keen, and Barry and Louise Keen, all of Momence; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Don Quattrocchi of Loveland, Colo., Sharon and James Sylvester of Steger, and Beverly and Rich Lewis of Bardstown, Ky.
Mrs. Boomsma farmed with her husband in the Momence and Lowell, Ind. area for many years prior to moving to the Waupun area in 1976, where they continued farming, retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun.
Reeva Decker
STREATOR -- Reeva L. Decker, 88, of Streator, and the sister of a Kankakee resident, died Thursday (Aug. 22, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. today at the Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home, Streator.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Church of Christ. Rev. Tim Hughes and Aaron Cantrell will officiate.
Burial will be in Long Point cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vic, Brad and Todd Miller, David Budde, Matthew Camp, Dale Hasselbring, Michael Remeta, Brian Godar and Neal Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Knuffman, Darrel Loudon, Tim Martin, Bill Schultz, Steve Sass, Keneth Straughn and Tom Decker.
Memorials may be made to Rock River Christian Camp, Polo; Illinois Children's Christian Home, Inc., St. Joseph, or to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Decker was a retired teacher, registrar and financial secretary at Rock River Christian Camp, Polo, and librarian at Iowa Christian College in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Cornell, the daughter of Earl E. and Mabel J. Garretson Gourley.
Her husband, William F. Decker, whom she married
June 21, 1934, died Dec. 19, 1983.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Darlene and Herman Budde of rural Flanagan, Mary Hasselbring of Sarastoa, Fla., Edith and Donald Dady of Streator, Beverly Riegert of Bark River, Mich.; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Evelyn Gourley of Gaithersburg, Md., Lois Holtman of Kankakee, Mary Heckert of Decatur, Leah and Frank Boyles of Hendersonville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
One brother, William Gourley, is deceased.
She was a 1931 graduate of Long Point High School.
Mrs. Decker was active with the senior health insurance program for the State of Illinois and the LaSalle County Genealogical Society.
She was a member of the Ancona Church of Christ and attended Central Church of Christ and the Young at Heart.
Frederick Dennison
MOMENCE -- Frederick E. "Fred" Dennison, 80, of Momence, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, with a 7 p.m. wake service.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Church in Momence. Revs. Vernon Arseneau, Dennis Settles and William O'Shea will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic cemetery in Momence with military rites provided by the Momence Honor Guard.
Mr. Dennison was born Oct. 13, 1921 in Kankakee, the son of Eugene and Isabelle Brouilette Dennison. After the death of his father, he was raised by his stepfather George Charboneau.
Surviving are his wife, the former Kathryn "Kay" Chappel, whom he married
Nov. 28, 1944 in Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene "Gene" and Nancy Dennison of Washington, Pa.; one daughter, Elizabeth Dennison of Urbana; and three grandchildren.
One brother; and one sister, are deceased.
Mr. Dennison was a World War 2 veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in the European Theatre and in Africa and England.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Momence, served on the St. Patrick cemetery Board for 48 years, president of the cemetery Board for 35 years, and was a member of the Momence American Legion Post 40.
He retired as pipeline supervisor for Shell after 30 years.
Emily Huse
ONARGA -- Emily Rose Huse, infant daughter of Daniel and Kristy Huse of Onarga, died at birth Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
Private family graveside rites will be held at 3 p.m. today in St. Paul's cemetery in Woodworth.
Arrangements are by Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her maternal grandparents, Ron and Barb Wagner of Onarga; maternal great-grandparents, Harold and Joyce Walters, and Robert and Stella Gray, all of Gilman, and Edna Wagner of Crescent City; paternal grandparents, Steve and Lois Huse of Gilman; and paternal great-grandmother, Ruth Huse of Kankakee.
Steven Jensen
BRAIDWOOD -- Steven Roy Jensen, 53, of Braidwood, died Thursday (Aug. 22, 2002) at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery.
Memorials may be made to ALS Research.
R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd., Braidwood, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jensen was born March 18, 1949 in Owatonna, Minn., the son of Fred and Viola Harris Jensen. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Lu Kreul, whom he married
in 1967 in Baraboo, Wis.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dani Jensen of Custer Park, Carri and Oscar Castillo of Braidwood; five grandchildren; his mother, Viola of Logansport, Ind.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Darrel and Mary Jensen of Logansport, Ind., Fred and Caroline Jensen of Idaroberstein, Germany, and Kevin Jensen of Wisconsin; nieces and nephews.
One sister, Beverly Patterson, is deceased.
Mr. Jensen was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served 11 years on the submarines during the Vietnam War.
He retired March 23, 2001 from Commonwealth Edison, Braidwood Station, where he was a Nuclear Engineer.
He was a member of the American Legion in Ransom.
Herman Reardanz
WILMINGTON -- Herman O. Reardanz, 90, of Wilmington, died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) at Embassy Care Center in Wilmington.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Reeves Funeral Home in Wilmington, where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Richard Lang will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to Joliet Area Hospice, Christian Faith Center, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Reardanz was born Feb. 12, 1912 in Bonfield, the son of Herman and Addie Benn Reardanz.
His wife, Marie Reardanz, is deceased.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Ronald Breen of Coal City, Marilyn and Robert LaGrange of Kentucky, Eyvonne and Harry Butcher of Wilmington; one son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Cathy Reardanz of Coal City; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Reardanz of Seneca, Bessie States of Ritchie; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two grandsons, R. David Breen and Herman E. Reardanz; three brothers, Charles, Leslie and his twin Henry; and one sister, Lillian Jackson, are deceased.
Mr. Reardanz farmed in the Bonfield area for many years on his family farms.
He was engaged in trucking for Standard Oil Company, retiring in 1973 from the Will County Highway Department.
He enjoyed gardening.
Sue Rudy
CRETE -- Sue A. Rudy, 69, of Crete, died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002).
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main St. in Crete.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Crete United Methodist Church, Main and Exchange Streets in Crete.
A private burial will be held.
Mrs. Rudy was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Wisconsin, the daughter of Dale and Lillian Nurtzhem Hawley.
Her husband, John C. "Jack" Rudy, is deceased.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Rudy-Carnes and Sam Carnes of Sherwood, Wis.; three sisters, Lois, Dawn and Doreen; and two brothers, Tom and Dale.
One son, Dan Rudy; and one daughter, Susan Rudy, are deceased.
Mrs. Rudy retired this year as a Title I Reading teacher at Crete Monee.
She was a member of the Crete United Methodist Church and was an active Bible Study Group leader, was a very active volunteer with Senator Debbie Halvorson's election campaign, and a member of the Illinois Education Association.
She was treasurer for the Retired Illinois Education Association, and was an active volunteer for PADS Homeless Shelter.
