CANTON, Mich. -- Marcia Ann Miller, 50, of Canton, Mich., and a former area resident, died Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at Angela Hospice in Livonia, Mich.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, 42600 Ford Road, Canton, and from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Michael Lutheran Church, Canton.
Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Crandon Lakeside cemetery in Crandon, Wis.
Memorials may be made to Angela Hospice, Karmanos Cancer Institute or to the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Mrs. Miller had been a teacher for 17 years in Grimes, Iowa. She then taught in the Plymouth-Canton schools in Canton, Mich. from 1976-1999.
She was born June 21, 1952, in Kankakee, the daughter of Gale and Lois Hansen Jaeger. Her father died March 6, 1990.
Surviving are her husband, Timothy A. Miller, whom she married
June 19, 1976, of Canton; one son, Eric G. Miller at home; her mother of Bourbonnais; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Elizabeth Miller of Muscatine, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandy and Nate Drucker of Chicago and Sharon and Scott McBride of Kansas City, Mo.
She had been a resident of Canton, Mich. since 1990. Prior to that she had lived in Grimes, Iowa, from 1976-1989.
She was a graduate of Kankakee Eastridge High School. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, in 1975 and her master's degree in 1997 from Eastern University in Detroit, Mich.
Mrs. Miller loved teaching small children and spending time at the cottage on Lake Lucerne in Crandon, Wis.
She was a member of the church group at St. Michael Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading scripture, the Bible and listening to praise songs.
Wayne Raguse
METAMORA -- Memorial visitation for Wayne A. "Dok" Raguse, 66, of Holiday Island, Ark., formerly of Kankakee, will be held 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. memorial service at the Metamora Christian Union Church, Metamora, Ill., where he was a member. Rev. Rick Mortimer will officiate.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Carroll Regional Medical Center Hospice, 214 Carter St., Berryville, AR 72616 or to his church.
Mason Funeral Home, Metamora, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Raguse died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at his home.
Irma Schipper

Visitation for Irma Carolyn Schipper, 85, a resident of Kankakee since 1934, will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Curt Boyer will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kankakee, where she was a 40-year member.
She died Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Mrs. Schipper and her husband owned and operated Kankakee Therapy for 35 years, retiring in 1993.
She was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Chenoa, the daughter of William and Anna Schoenbeck Sandmeyer.
Her husband, Lawrence "Bud" Schipper, whom she married
Oct. 12, 1940, is deceased.
Four cousins survive.
Two sisters, Kathryn Davis and Lois Sandmeyer, are deceased.
She attended Gallagher Business College.
Mrs. Schipper was a member of the Moose.
She enjoyed playing cards and working in her flower garden.
Ervin Schubbe
MONEE -- Memorial visitation for Ervin W. Schubbe, 80, of rural Monee, will be from 11 a.m. Friday until the noon services at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone.
He donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois.
Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schubbe died Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) at Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Hazel Crest.
Ruth Browning
PEOTONE -- Ruth Dodd Browning, a 20 year resident of Peotone, formerly of Crete, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the noon services at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Rev. Lewis Nutter will officiate.
Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. Pallbearers will be Gene and Jeff Bloomquist, Paul Morgan, Glenn and Mark Garza, Christopher and Andrew Browning and Michael Woods.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Her first husband, Carl Eugene Dodd, is deceased. She then married
Cletus L. Browning March 10, 1979 in Monee. He died in 2002.
Surviving are one stepdaughter and step-son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Garza of Dyer, Ind.; one stepson and step-daughter-in-law, Floyd and Jodi Browning of Batavia; two sons-in-law, Richard Berner of Paxton, John Bloomquist of Momence; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nora Endicott of St. Bernice, Ind.
Her parents, Sal and Goldie Lane; two daughters, Barbara Bloomquist and Carletta Berner; four brothers; and two sisters, are deceased.
Mrs. Browning was a member of Manteno Baptist Church.
Sammy Davis
MOMENCE -- Visitation for Sammy L. Davis, 57, of Momence, and a 42-year resident of the area, will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Anne Woods Chapel. Rev. Louis Barnes will officiate.
Burial will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood.
Arrangements are by the Leggett Funeral Home, Hopkins Park.
He died Thursday (July 25, 2002) in Martinton Township.
Mr. Davis was a farmer with DeYoung Farms in St. Anne.
He was born Feb. 17, 1943, in Mississippi, the son of Jeff and Lillian Smith Davis. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are six sons, Sammy L. Davis Jr., Kevin Davis, Thomas Davis, all of Grand Rapids, Mich., Cedric Davis of East St. Louis, Samuel Davis of St. Anne, Jontome Williams of Kankakee; four daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra Davis and Karen Davis, both of Grand Rapids, Mich., Oteria Davis of Richton Park, Pamela and Eric Thomas of Sun River Terrace; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Andrew and Maria Raper of Las Vegas, Nev., Raymond Smith of St. Anne; one sister, Emma Smith of St. Anne; and eight grandchildren.
One daughter and his grandparents are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
He enjoyed motorcycles.
Rose DeYoung
Rose DeYoung, 88, of Kankakee, died Sunday (July 28, 2002) at Provena Heritage Village.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Don DeYoung will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Wichert.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or the Bible Witness Camp. Because of Rose's love for flowers the family will gladly accept flower arrangements.
She was born Jan. 13, 1914, in Wichert, the daughter of John and Sophie Hoekstra DeMik.

Harold and Fran Dekker of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one stepsister, Lenore Overbeek of Grant Park; 14 grandchildren, Dan and Donna DeYoung of Woodstock, Ga., Dave DeYoung of Key West, Fla., Kenneth DeYoung of Barrington, Peter DeYoung of Switzerland, Greg and Michelle DeYoung of Champaign, Scott and Lisa DeYoung of St. Anne, Tammy and Brian Earsley of Bradley, Mitch and Tonya DeYoung of Bourbonnais, Brian and Barb DeYoung of Bradley, JoLynn and Scott Baily of Urbana, Matthew DeYoung of St. Anne, Lindsey DeYoung and Luke DeYoung, both of Ashmore; and seven great-grandchildren, Evan DeYoung and Nathan DeYoung, both of Woodstock, Ga., Travis DeYoung of St. Anne, Kale DeYoung of Champaign, Austin Earsley and Alex Earsley, both of Bradley and Chase DeYoung of Bourbonnais.
One grandson, Dirk DeYoung; one brother, Ed DeMik; and one stepsister, Fern Boudreau, are deceased.
Mrs. DeYoung did volunteer work at Twin State Bible Camp and was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Anne.
She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and was interested in many mission and outreach projects.
Donald Dirks
ASHKUM -- Donald "Hap" Dirks, 86, of Ashkum, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at the Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home, Clifton.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at the Zion Lutheran Church, Ashkum, where he was a member. Rev. Jan Horne will officiate.
Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Ashkum, or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Dirks farmed in the Ashkum area for many years.
He was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Danforth, the son of Garrett and Johanna Hasbargen Dirks.
His wife, the former Evelyn L. Wrede, whom he married
June 28, 1941, in Danforth, died Dec. 3, 1993.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Mike Welsh of Goodland, Ind.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dean and Joanne Dirks of Ashkum, Donald Dirks Jr. of Ottawa; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
One sister and one grandson are deceased.
Maude Evans
MANTENO -- Maude L. Evans, 73, of Manteno, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the 8 p.m. memorial service at Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Rd. Rev. Don Romig will officiate.
Burial will be private.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Mrs. Evans was a retired cook from several restaurants and country clubs in the area.
She was born May 23, 1929, in Robinson, the daughter of Charles and Bessy Maysey Smith.
Her husband, Donald Rex "Red" Evans, died in 1986.
Surviving are four sons, James (Kathy) Broome of Orlando, Fla., Larry Broome of Grant Park, Billy Evans of Cicero, Bobby (Jackie) Evans of Grant Park; five daughters, Carolyn (Jack) Lewis of Queens Crook, Ariz., Patty Daly of Chesterton, Ind., Donna Evans of Goshen, Ind., Sherry Evans of Momence, Connie (Frank) Ricci of Manteno; one brother, Charles (Elsie) Smith of St. Bernard, La.; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God of Steger.
She loved the outdoors, Willie Nelson and sweets. She always supported her native heritage which was Cherokee.
