Pearl Wolfe

WATSEKA -- Pearl Wolfe, 78, of Watseka, died Friday (July 26, 2002) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka, and from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the 10:30 a.m. service at Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka. Rev. Dean Bottjen will officiate.
Burial will be in Flesher cemetery in Crescent City.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Calvary Lutheran Church, Prairieview Nursing Home, or the donor's choice.
Ms. Wolfe was born Nov. 21, 1923 in Watseka, the daughter of Elmer Cleveland and Gertrude Hasbargen Wolfe.
Surviving are one sister, Helen Wrede of Crescent City; and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Daniel Wolfe, Donald Wolfe, Wilbur Wolfe; and two sisters, Augusta Carlson, and Elfreida Ester Wolfe, are deceased.
Ms. Wolfe was retired from the Iroquois County Clerk's Office.
She was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka, a member of the Prairie Dell Sunshine Club, Pittwood Home Extension Unit, a member of the Illinois Sherriff's Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed gardening and was an avid bingo player.

Mildred Clear

LOCKPORT -- Mildred E. Clear, 87, of Lockport, and a former area resident, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Provena Villa Franciscan in Joliet.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Revs. Terry McIntyre and Jim Moore will officiate.
Burial will be in Custer Township cemetery, Custer Park. Pallbearers will be Timothy Clear, Mike, Dave and Branden Colegrove, Berry Wirtz and Ambrose Seyller.
She was born July 21, 1915, in Freiling, the daughter of Arthur and Emma Tooper Weiske.
Her husband, Norman H. Clear, whom she married July 28, 1934, in Joliet, is deceased.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ardis and Dean Wirtz of Normal, Virginia Rodgers of Westminster, Calif., Norma and Larry Phillips of Joliet; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Phyllis Clear of Lockport; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
One son-in-law, Frank Rodgers; four brothers, Leonard, Willard, Vernon and Orville Weiske; and four sisters, Lucille Nicholas, Bernice Fitzgerald, Velma Hawkins and Irene Rittenaour, are deceased.
Mrs. Clear was a member of the Westview Baptist Church in Shorewood.
She enjoyed crocheting and using the computer.

Deshawn Harrell

Visitation for Deshawn Levelle "Nukie" Harrell, 12, of Kankakee, will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Second Baptist Church. Rev. Eric Collins will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Deshawn died Thursday (July 18, 2002) in a drowning accident.
He was born Dec. 17, 1989 in Kankakee.
Surviving are his parents, Dynell Harrell of Orlando, Fla., and Ruth Anne Collins of Kankakee; two sisters, Kamary Alexander and Khadijah Harrell, both of Kankakee; and two brothers, Elijah Harrell of Kankakee and Camron Harrell of Florida.
Deshawn was a student at Kennedy Middle School.
He was a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Kankakee Riverside Little League Firefighters baseball team and Eastside Football.

Sylvester Madix
operations manager

LODA -- Sylvester E. "Sy" Madix, 90, of Pekin, formerly of Loda, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Pekin Hospital.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the 10 a.m. celebration of the funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pekin, where he was a member. Revs. Timothy Nolan and Robert Schladen will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Pekin.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pekin.
Arrangements are by Abts Mortuary, Pekin.
Mr. Madix was a Western Illinois regional operations manager for Growmark Inc. He was formerly in farm service for many years, retiring Sept. 1, 1976.
He was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Loda, the son of James and Margaret Salvage Madix.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lauretta McGreal, whom he married Oct. 19, 1935, in Loda, of Pekin; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kathy Madix of Clinton; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Madix of Decatur; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
One son, Edward E. Madix; one brother; and two sisters, are deceased.
Mr. Madix served as an usher and a eucharistic minister at his church.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507.

Marie Marcotte
registered nurse

Visitation for Marie P. Marcotte, 85, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a 4 p.m. wake service at the Senesac Kankakee Funeral Home.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she was a member. Rev. Richard Pighini will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Memorials may be made for Masses, Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to the Sisters Infirmary at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
She died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Mrs. Marcotte was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital for over 30 years retiring in 1978.
She was born Dec. 8, 1915, in Beaverville, the daughter of Ferdinand and Anna Baron Nourie.
Her husband, Paul J. Marcotte, whom she married Sept. 1, 1940, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, died Jan. 8, 1998.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerome and Barbara Marcotte of Augusta, Ga., Thomas and Kathy Marcotte, James and Janine Marcotte, all of St. Anne; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Gregory Sobol of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; two sisters, Sister Anita Marie Nourie of Kankakee, Leonille "Lee" Kempen of Beaver Dam, Wis.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
One brother, Homer Nourie; and two daughters-in-law, Kathryn Marcotte and Patricia Marcotte, are deceased.
She was a member of the Bridge Club, Home Extension, Book Review Club and the Retired Nurses Association.
She was a former member of St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Raymond Mathis

Raymond Mathis, 73, of Bourbonnais, and a longtime Red Cross volunteer, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne.
Arrangements are pending at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

William Parish

MOMENCE -- Visitation for William "Bill" W. Parish, 52, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Momence, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at Cotter Funeral Home, Momence.
Inurnment will be in St. Patrick Catholic cemetery, Momence.
Mr. Parish died Tuesday (July 16, 2002) in Great Falls, Mont., after a horseback riding accident.

Richard Read

CABERY -- Richard L. Read, 67, of Cabery, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at his home.
Arrangements are pending at the Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home in Cullom.

Gladys Serena
formerly owned beauty shop

SOUTH WILMINGTON -- Gladys I. "Peg" Serena, 94, of South Wilmington, died Monday (July 22, 2002) at the Walnut Grove Nursing Home in Morris.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, South Wilmington Chapel.
Burial will be private in the Kendallville-Eddy cemetery, Kendallville, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Nursing Home Activity Fund or to a local volunteer fire department.
Mrs. Serena formerly owned and operated a boarding house and beauty shop in Iowa.
She was born May 9, 1908, in Wyoming, the daughter of Walt and Maud Clark Benge.
Her husband, Joseph V. Serena Sr., whom she married Oct. 10, 1981, is deceased.
Surviving are nine stepchildren, Joseph "Vic" (Jeanette) Serena of Gardner, Monty (Dorothy) Serena of South Wilmington, Arthur (Jane) Serena of Bonfield, Anthony (Diane) Serena and Alvin Serena, both of South Wilmington, Carmen (Janis) Serena of Kankakee, Regina (Paul) Chase of Gardner, Kenneth (Janet) Serena of East Brooklyn, Michael (Jackie) Serena of Gardner; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Roland Benge; and three sisters, Georgia Collins, Clara Hakey and Frances Porter, are deceased.
Mrs. Serena had been a member of the Women's Auxiliary in South Wilmington and the American Business Women's Association.

Frances Ulveling
operated catering company

Frances Helen Ulveling, 95, of Clifton, formerly of Kankakee, died Monday (July 22, 2002) at Merkle Knipprath Nursing Home, Clifton.
Private services will be held.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ulveling owned and operated her own catering company.
She was born Aug. 3, 1906, in Bradley, the daughter of Isadore and Kathryn Berakis Wasetis.
She was married to David Scaro, Herbert Cremer and Henry "Hank" Ulveling.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Mary Scaro of Elkhorn, Wis., Robert and Wilma Scaro of Trenton, Ga.; two sisters, Nellie Warpet of Bradley, Kathryn Nickwander of Palm Springs, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Frank Wasetis and Victor Wasetis; three sisters, Stella Cross, Adaline and Anna Blue; and one daughter, Alice Bertrand, are deceased.
Mrs. Ulveling was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Ladies of the Moose for 50 years.
