Francis Moore

CRETE -- Francis W. Moore, 79, of Crete, died Saturday (July 20, 2002) at St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. at the Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main St.
Services will be held at noon Wednesday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Crete, where he was a member.
Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran cemetery, Crete.
Mr. Moore operated Crete Auto Sales. He was also a retired railroad conductor with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.
He was born Jan. 2, 1923, in Peru, Ind., the son of Herschel and Albertine Butzin Moore.
Surviving are his wife, the former Roberta Wegener, whom he married Nov. 28, 1948, in Peru, Ind., of Crete; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Roger VonHolten of Rockford; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lee and Sue Moore of Beecher, Guy and Sandy Moore of Crete, Rex Moore of Bourbonnais; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia Smith of Mishawaka, Ind., Belle and Wayne Kampe of Argos, Ind.; and nine grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.
He was an active member of the Crete AMVETS and a former member of the Crete Lions Club.
He was an old-car enthusiast.

Hilda Gutzmer

A memorial service for Hilda A. Gutzmer, 85, of Kankakee, formerly of Crown Point, Ind., will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kankakee. Rev. Marsha Collins will officiate.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Calumet Park cemetery, Merrillville, Ind.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors, Kankakee.
She died Saturday (July 20, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center after a short illness.
Mrs. Gutzmer owned several small businesses during her lifetime, including a grocery store, motel and a restaurant. She also worked as a clerk for the Lake County, Ind., tax assessor's office.
She was born April 4, 1917, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Michael F. and Anna Borden Schieb.
Her husband, John F. Gutzmer, whom she married June 16, 1945, in Gary, Ind., died in 1997.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Hannah Gutzmer of West Jordan, Utah, Martin and Anne Gutzmer of Kankakee; one sister, Helen Dick of Portage, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Etta Schieb of Portage, Ind., Marjorie Schieb of Florida; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gutzmer was active in philanthropic organizations and her church. She was a lifetime member of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons branch 26 of Merrillville, Ind.
She enjoyed bowling, macrame, traveling and reading.

Joseph Kottendorf,
29-year Sears employee

Joseph Kottendorf, 72, of Bradley, died Saturday (July 20, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Kankakee, where he was a 60-year member and served on various committees. Rev. Walter Griesmeyer will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Mr. Kottendorf had worked at Sears and Roebuck for 29 years, retiring in 1985, as division manager.
He was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Champaign, the son of Joseph B. and Eleanor Andrews Kottendorf.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marilyn Doran, whom he married Nov. 7, 1953, in Kankakee, of Bradley; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary and Paul Schore of Bourbonnais, Carol Kottendorf of California, Janet and Brent Osterhoff of Bradley; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Kottendorf was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
He liked gardening and fishing.

Magnolia Womack

Magnolia Womack, 75, of Kankakee, died Saturday (July 20, 2002) at Momence Meadows Nursing Center.
Arrangements are pending at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee.

Peggy Kapraun

FLANAGAN -- Peggy Ann Kapraun, 55, of Flanagan, formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (July 20, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today, with a 3 p.m. rosary service at the Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Flanagan, where she was a member. Rev. Thomas Mack will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Flanagan.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Kapraun taught math at Flanagan High School for 27 years.
She was born Aug. 29, 1946, in Kankakee, the daughter of Owen and Dede Feller Heeler. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Hal Kapraun, whom she married Aug. 16, 1969, at St. John's Catholic Church, Cullom; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jennifer and Rick Veach of Charleston, Jill and Mike Francis of Flanagan, Jackie Kapraun of El Paso, Texas; one granddaughter; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Carl Kozlevcar of Morton, Paula and Jim Moore of Peoria; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Joan Kapraun of Flanagan.
One sister, Pam Wineinger; one grandson, Christopher Veach; and one niece, Abby Wineinger, are deceased.
Mrs. Kapraun was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at her church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the National Education Association and the Flanagan Education Association.

Reida Craterfield

BENTON, Ky. -- Reida M. Craterfield, 67, of Benton, Ky., formerly of Wilmington, died Friday (July 19, 2002) at Western Baptist Hospital, Paducah.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the 10 a.m. services at the Reeves Funeral Home, Wilmington. Rev. Ron Taylor will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to the donors choice.
She was born April 6, 1933, in Ritchie, the daughter of Everett and Essie Day-Willis. Her father is deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Craterfield; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Joseph Craterfield, Terry and Debbie Craterfield, all of Wilmington; two grandchildren; her mother of Benton, Ky.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
One daughter-in-law, Carolyn Craterfield, is deceased.
She was a member of the Baptist Church of Wilmington.

Acrecia McMahon

Acrecia McMahon, 50, of Kankakee, died Saturday (July 13, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Directors.
Private graveside services will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
She was born March 4, 1952, in Chicago, the daughter of Phillip and Margaret Matuza McMahon. Her parents are deceased.
One brother, Phillip McMahon of Hanover Park survives.

Dontey Jackson

Visitation for Dontey DeAngelo Jackson, 15, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Kankakee, will be from 8 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. services at Christ Temple Apostolic Church, Bradley. Revs. T.L. Gordon Sr. and Randy Gordon will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory.
A reception will immediately follow at Second Missionary Baptist Church.
Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
He died Thursday (July 11, 2002) at Phoenix Memorial Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz.
He was born Jan. 27, 1987, in Denver, Colo.
Surviving are his parents, Kenneth and Sheila Jackson-Benton of Glendale, Ariz. and Darren Tucker of Kankakee; sisters and brothers, Tynekia Jackson and Izail Gandy of Glendale, Ariz., Ebony and Nia Benton of Chicago, Chevon Benton of Tempe, Ariz., Devon Upton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandparents, Lizzie Jackson, Bennie Will Taylor and W.C. Tucker, all of Kankakee; many aunts and uncles, including several in the Kankakee area; and several cousins.
His grandmother, Annie Tucker, is deceased.
He attended Alhambra High School.
He enjoyed participating in football and basketball. He also enjoyed spending time at the Boys and Girls Club, where he played and helped with coaching the basketball team.

Dorothy Graham

Dorothy Graham, 70, of Kankakee, died today (July 18, 2002) at her home.
Visitation is tentatively set for Friday with services on Saturday.
Arrangements are by the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

PEOTONE -- Dorothy C. Legge, 78, a resident of rural Peotone for 34 years, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at South Suburban Hospital, Hazelcrest.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. services at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Burial will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood.
Memorials may be made to the South Suburban Hospital ICU.
Mrs. Legge was records manager for Governors State University for 20 years, retiring in 1994.
She was born June 30, 1924, in Dearborn, Mich., the daughter of Leon and Isabelle Clement Cousineau.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin Legge, whom she married June 30, 1951, in Long Beach, Calif., of rural Peotone; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Bonnie Legge of Savannah, Ga., Matthew and Kathy Legge of Elizabeth, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Paul Miller of Mokena; three grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Fern Forgie of Pueblo, Colo. and James and Roma Forgie of Gladwin, Mich.
One infant son, Christopher, is deceased.
