MANHATTAN -- Eugene M. Gallagher, 88, of Manhattan, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Forsythe Funeral Chapel, 320 Eastern Ave., Manhattan.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, where he was a lifelong member.
Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph School or to the Manhattan Fire Department.
Mr. Gallagher retired after 50 years of farming in Manhattan. He also served as the Manhattan Township supervisor for 20 years.
He was born in Manhattan, the son of Michael and Mabel Kirstein Gallagher.
His wife, the former Mary Kay McHugh, is deceased.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Betty Gallagher, Kenneth and Loretta Gallagher, all of Manhattan, Richard and Dee Gallagher of Wilmington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanene and Greg Flint of Coal City, Myrtle and Dan Brown of Oak Lawn; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Gallagher; four sisters, Theresa Gallagher, Cecelia Mundt, Ruth Audette, Doris Hawryluk; and several nieces and nephews.
One infant grandson, Kevin Joseph Gallagher; one brother, Francis Gallagher; and four sisters, Irene Gallagher, who died in infancy; Lillian Walsh, Hazel Draves and Bernice Bratcher, are deceased.
Mr. Gallagher was a member of the Manhattan Lions Club and the Manhattan Sportsman Club. He was also a member of the first graduating class of St. Joseph's Catholic Grade School, Manhattan.
John Angelatos
CHICAGO -- John Angelatos, 73, formerly of Chicago, father of a Kankakee business owner and Clifton resident, died Tuesday (July 16, 2002) from cancer.
Church services will be at St. John's Church on his island of Kefalonia, Greece.
He will be interred in his family cemetery in his village of Andreolata, Kefalonia, Greece.
His wife of 36 years, Mary, died in May 1996.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Nickolas and Susan Angelatos of Clifton, Dean Angelatos of Chicago; and two grandchildren, Melanie Angelatos and John Angelatos, both of Clifton.
Johnnie Zilm
ST. ANNE -- Visitation for Johnnie Mitchell Zilm, 57, of St. Anne, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Minister John Coney will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Anne Township cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
She died Tuesday (July 16, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Ms. Zilm had been a home caretaker.
She was born Jan. 19, 1945, in Harlan, Ky., the daughter of Steve and Lena King Owens. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Joe Mitchell Jr. and Daniel Mitchell, both of Gainesboro, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Steveanna and Mark Nutter of Martinton; five sisters, Roxy Carroll of Gainesboro, Tenn., Bertha Blanton of St. Anne, Myrtle Owens of Oneida, Tenn., Hazel Owens and Leathie Owens, both of Indiana; three brothers, Frank Owens of St. Anne, Bill Owens of Illinois and John Owens of Indiana; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Merle and Mary Jones of Joliet.
One sister, Cynthia; one brother, Henry; and special friend, Francis Spencer, are deceased.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, horses and crocheting.
Paul Burrington,
miller at Short Milling
STOUGHTON, Wis. -- Paul F. Burrington, 72, of Stoughton, Wis., and a former area resident, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Unit in Fitchburg, Wis.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the 2 p.m. services at the First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington, Stoughton, where he was a member. Rev. Dick Halom will officiate.
Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc.
Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home, Stoughton, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burrington was a miller at Short Milling in Kankakee until his retirement to Stoughton.
He was born July 22, 1929, in Richland Center, the son of Delbert Sr. and Alma Hardy Burrington.
His first wife, Thersa, is deceased.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Mary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and John Boomgarden, Karla and Dan Gadboise; stepchildren, Steven (Janet) Armstrong, Craig (Mary Ann) Armstrong, Carol Ann (Dan) Vail, Karen (Rick) Bronson; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Theron and Veda Burrington, Delbert Jr. and Jean Burrington; and one sister, Eva Fleck.
One son, Donald Burrington; two brothers, Ernest Burrington and Alfred Burrington; and two sisters, Florence Schmidt and Esther Burrington, are deceased.
Mr. Burrington worked and volunteered at the Stoughton Senior Center.
He enjoyed camping, gardening, yard work and was a sports fan.
Rita Rapsky
GARDNER -- Rita J. Rapsky, 78, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Gardner, died Tuesday (July 16, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, South Wilmington, where she was a member.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner cemetery, Braceville.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent's Hospice in Indianapolis, Ind.
She was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Harvey, the daughter of Patrick and Catherine Cook Moran.
Her husband, Michael J. Rapsky, whom she married
Dec. 4, 1943, in Chicago, is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna and Lloyd Trina of Indianapolis, Ind., Gayle Vojtanek and her fiance, Ron Jordan of Joliet; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Jr. and Terri Ann Rapsky of New Lenox; one stepson and step-daughter-in-law, Emmett and Florence Rapsky of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
One daughter Barbara Bafia; two brothers and two sisters, are deceased.
She enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.
Shirley Dockery
ETOWAH, Tenn. -- Shirley Lorene Dockery, 46, of Etowah, Tenn., the brother of Bourbonnais residents, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at Blount Memorial Hospital, of cancer.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the Bordwine Funeral Home, Etowah, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. Joe Mullins will officiate.
Burial will be in McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Alex Tutt, Jeff Latham, Michael Moody, Jason Casteel, Titus Snyder and Nathan Leamon.
Surviving are her husband, Chris Dockery of Etowah; five daughters, Carrie Freeman of Athens, Tenn., Ammie Stanton of Niota, Tenn., Jessica Dockery of Cleveland, Tenn., Samantha Morrow of Athens, Tenn., Kristen Dockery of Etowah; two sons, Ethan Dockery of Etowah, Charles Stanton of California; her father, Robert C. Irwin of Benton, Tenn.; her mother and stepfather, Lora M. and Harold Redenius of Etowah, Tenn.; five grandchildren; one sister, Denise Doyal of Griffin, Ga.; three brothers, Mike Irwin and Rick Irwin, both of Bourbonnais, Rex Irwin of Dale, Ind.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Melissa Riden.
She was a member of the Old Salem Baptist Church.
Louis Moreno
MANTENO -- Services for Louis C. Moreno, 84, of the Illinois Veterans Home, Manteno, were held July 17 at the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno. Deacon Joe Cotugno officiated.
Mr. Moreno died July 14, 2002.
Burial was in the Illinois Veteran cemetery, Manteno. Pallbearers were Louis Moreno, Jim Strong, Lowell and Spencer Stovall, Bryon Sobczak and Andy Burns.
Edna Craig
Services for Edna V. Craig, 95, of Bradley, were held July 17 at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Mrs. Craig died July 13, 2002.
Burial was in the Aroma Park cemetery. Pallbearers were James Smith, Chris and Tom Lippold, Scott and David Swinford and Todd Yarno.
William Meginnis
MANTENO -- A funeral Mass for William B. Meginnis, 66, of Manteno, was celebrated July 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manteno. Rev. John Peeters officiated.
Mr. Meginnis died July 14, 2002.
Cremation rites were accorded by the County Line Crematory, Chebanse. Pallbearers were J.D. and Danny Dempsey, Dave Demik, Joe Cicchirollo, Tony Fionda and Mike Horn.
Toyoko Roach
CLIFTON -- Visitation for Toyoko Roach, 68, of Clifton, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. John Story will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Portions of her ashes will be interred at a later date both in her homeland of Japan and at the Moore cemetery in Columbia, Ky.
Memorials may be made to the Clifton Wesleyan Church, where she was a member.
She died Tuesday (July 16, 2002) at Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home, Clifton, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Roach was a housekeeper at Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home for 12 years.
She was born March 21, 1934, in Amomi, Oshima Japan, the daughter of Shigataka and Otomi Oki. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Johnnie D. Roach of Clifton, whom she married
March 11, 1957, in Okinawa, Japan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Ronald Burdick of Ashkum, Dorothy and David Dreisbach of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Satchiko Nagata of Tokyo, Japan; one brother, Takayoshi Oki of Tokyo, Japan; and two grandchildren.
Six brothers are deceased.
She loved sewing, cooking and was a Cubs fan.
William Roe
MAZON -- William C. Roe, 88, of Mazon, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at Morris Hospital.
Visitation is tentatively set for Sunday with services on Monday.
