Barbara Christensen
special ed teacher

A memorial service for Barbara "Pete" Christensen, 71, of Kankakee, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church, Bourbonnais, where she was a member. Rev. Richard Sagarsee will officiate.
Her body has been donated to science.
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, is in charge of arrangements.
She died Friday (July 12, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Mrs. Christensen was a special education teacher in Kankakee School District 111.
She was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Eugene and Irene Watson Patterson.
Surviving are her husband, Wayne Christensen, whom she married Oct. 10, 1981, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Kankakee; one son and daughter-in-law, James Eugene and Terri Tiller of Knoxville, Ill.; one daughter, Linda Dianne Tiller of East Peoria; one sister, Margo P. Doss of California; four stepchildren; and six grandchildren.
Two sisters, Vera Jean Renner and Roberta Caroline Farrell, are deceased.
Mrs. Christensen was a member of the antique tractor club.
She enjoyed fishing and reading.

Dontey Jackson

Dontey D. Jackson, 15, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Kankakee, died Thursday (July 11, 2002) in Arizona.
Arrangements are pending for Saturday at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee.

Edward Hilts
writer, teacher

LADY LAKE, Fla. -- Edward Leonard Hilts, 80, of Lady Lake, Fla., and the father of a Bradley resident, died Saturday (July 13, 2002).
He was born in Chicago and moved from Hinsdale in 1997 to Lady Lake.
Mr. HIlts was a freelance writer. He published 59 books and taught commercial writing at the University of Chicago.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine B. Hilts of Lady Lake; five sons, Chip Hilts of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Philip Hilts of Brookline, Mass., Paul Hilts of New York, N.Y., Michael Hilts of Marietta, Ga., Mark Hilts of Naperville; two daughters, Jeanne Young of Bradley, Elizabeth Sanderson of Chicago; and seven grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II.
He was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lady Lake; and active in the Board of Church in Illinois, Midwest chapter.
He was also a member and past president of the Mystery Writers of America.

Frances Robinson
medical assistant

BEECHER -- Frances N. Robinson, 79, of Beecher, died Saturday (July 13, 2002) at the Lexington Health Care Center in Orland Park.
Services were held at 11 a.m. today at the Crete Funeral Home.
Burial was in Skyline Memorial Park cemetery, Monee.
Mrs. Robinson had been a medical assistant for Dr. Schneider in Harvey for many years and had also worked for the First National Bank of Harvey for over 10 years.
She was born May 12, 1923 in Dresden, Tenn.
Surviving are her husband, William "Bill" Robinson; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Yadron of Frankfort, Gretchen Sue and Robert Hancock of Ocoee, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Frankie Robinson of Walkerton, N.C.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Frank Passini
retired farmer

GARDNER -- Visitation for Frank P. Passini, 87, of the Gardner-South Wilmington area, will be from 2 p.m. Wednesday until the 4 p.m. services at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel. Rev. Steve Bondi will officiate.
Burial will be in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery, Braceville.
He died Sunday (July 14, 2002) at the Walnut Grove Nursing Home in Morris.
Mr. Passini was a retired farmer.
He was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Fairbury, the son of Angelo and Josephine Monferdini Passini.
His first wife, the former Carrie Barra, is deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mildred Flood, whom he married March 12, 1960; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank "Tom" Passini of Frankfort, Randy and Diane Passini of Braceville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Denise Passini of Braceville, Karen and Steve Anderson of Morris; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Jean Pazssini of Burbank; and nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Nora and Emma; and three brothers, Tony, Jack and Angelo, are deceased.
He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.

Leslie Hilsenhoff

MANTENO -- Leslie W. "Bill" Hilsenhoff, 75, of Manteno, longtime businessman, died Monday (July 15, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Rick Sexton will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Manteno.
Memorials may be made to the Church of God Worship Center.
Mr. Hilsenhoff, co-owner of Hilsenhoff Drug Store, retired after 50 years with the store.
He was born July 16, 1926, in Marissa, the son of Leslie E. and Clementine Johnson Hilsenhoff.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lorraine Vrolyk, whom he married Nov. 6, 1960, in Kankakee, of Manteno; one son, Brian L. Hilsenhoff of Manteno; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Kevin Reardanz of Manteno; one brother, Robert D. Hilsenhoff of Manteno; one sister-in-law, Donna Hilsenhoff of Manteno; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One brother, Joseph G. Hilsenhoff, is deceased.
Mr. Hilsenhoff was a member of the Rotary Club, where he was past president; and the Kankakee Valley Civil War Roundtable.
He was a sports fan.

Retia Perschnick

DWIGHT -- Retia Perschnick, 75, of Mt. Zion, formerly of Dwight, died Monday (July 15, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
Arrangements are pending at the Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.

Ruth Quackenbush
farmed

CLAY CITY, Ind. -- Ruth S. Quackenbush, 83, of Clay City, Ind., and the relative of area residents, died Friday (July 12, 2002) at Walnut Creek Nursing Home, Terre Haute, Ind.
Services were held July 15 at the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City. Rev. Donald C. Mullen officiated.
Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery.
Mrs. Quackenbush had farmed with her husband in Indiana for many years.
She was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Corryton, Tenn., the daughter of Freeman and Adeline Weaver Petree.
Her husband, Everette H. Quackenbush, whom she married Aug. 21, 1937, in Kentland, Ind., died March 8, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Leon Liffick, Cindy and Bob Geswein, all of Terre Haute, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Quackenbush of Columbus, Ind.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lassie and Frederick Tjarks of Wisconsin, Thelma Burling of Kankakee, Joanne and Lloyd Widmer of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rose Petree of Cullom; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
One sister, Nola Petree Weaver, is deceased.
She was a graduate of Herscher High School.
Mrs. Quackenbush was a basketball fan and enjoyed oil painting.

Thena Thom

GARDNER -- Thena L. Thom, 88, of Gardner, died Monday (July 15, 2002) in Morris.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Lutheran Church in Gardner, where she was a member. Rev. Steffan Olson will officiate.
Burial will be in Gardner Prairie cemetery.
She was born Sept. 19, 1913, in Gardner, the daughter of Severt and Sarah Ostrem Severson.
Her husband, Edward Thom, whom she married in a double wedding with her sister, Alma and Torris Sandeno, on Dec. 1, 1935, in Gardner, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Jean Thom of rural Gardner, Glen E. Thom of Joliet; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia S. and Mick Gerrish of Gardner; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ethel Severson of Gardner; one niece and one nephew; and three great-nieces and two great-nephews.
One sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Toris Sandeno; and one brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Mary Severson, are deceased.
She enjoyed cooking and baking.

Toyoko Roach

CLIFTON -- Toyoko Roach, 68, of Clifton, died today (July 16, 2002) at the Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home in Clifton.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton.

Dorothy Fowler

Services for Dorothy R. Fowler, 84, of Bourbonnais, were held July 15 at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Jon Quinn officiated.
Mrs. Fowler died July 11, 2002.
Burial was in Aroma Park cemetery.

Walter Hinz

SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Visitation for Walter M. Hinz, 75, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Moline, and the father of a Kankakee resident, will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. Elks service at the DeRoo Funeral Home, 1611 7th St., Moline.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline.
Burial will be in the National cemetery, Rock Island.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West.
Mr. Hinz died Thursday (July 11, 2002) in Sun City West.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Mary Jane; six children, including Susan and Joe Lacaeyse of Kankakee; eight grandchildren, including Beth Lacaeyse of Chicago and Jean Lacaeyse of San Diego, Calif.; and one great-granddaughter; and one sister.
