A memorial service for Joseph Peter Rauen, 62, of Kankakee, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate.
Burial will be private.
Mr. Rauen died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital emegency room after a fire and explosion in his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1939, the son of Joseph F. and Ruth Drabandt Rauen. His parents are deceased.
There are no survivors.
Eleven aunts and uncles are deceased.
He was a 1959 graduate of J. Sterling Morton High School and a 1965 graduate of Morton Junior College. He also attended the University of Illinois.
He loved animals.
Mattie Allen
SUN RIVER TERRACE -- Visitation for Mattie Allen, 74, of Sun River Terrace, will be from 4 p.m. Thursday until the 5 p.m. services at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Kankakee. Revs. Christopher Clark and Carl Randle will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Allen died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
She was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Chicago, the daughter of William and Ruth Yates-Dear Slaughter.
Her husband, Arnold Allen, is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Shelia and Clarence Jones of Bellwood, Gloria Maxwell of Chicago; two sisters, Geraldine Doiger and Christine Jones, both of Riverdale, Ga.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rudolph and Betty Slaughter of Kankakee, Adolph Slaughter of Chicago, Aaron and Eddie White of Riverdale, Ga.; 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Justine Travis; and two stepsons, Johnathan Allen and Gilbert Allen, are deceased.
Mrs. Allen was a senior companion and volunteer for the village summer program in Sun River Terrace.
She was a member of Gethsemane Garden Baptist Church.
Patricia Schildgen
BELVIDERE -- Patricia A. Richards Schildgen, 51, of Belvidere, and a former area resident, died Sunday (July 7, 2002) at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Karl Otto will officiate.
Burial will be in Plainville cemetery, Dell Prairie, Wis.
She was born Feb. 28, 1951, in Platteville, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Shirley Brunskill Richards. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are one daughter, Renee Schildgen of Belvidere; one son and his fiancee, Catie Danz of Chicago; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Craig and Susan Richards, Terry and Mary Richards, Richard Jr. and Judy Brogley, all of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Sandra and Ted Whitfield of Belvidere, Kristi and Bob Anderson of Baraboo, Wis., Kay and Jay Grawn of Milwaukee, Wis., Sherry Pryor of Richmond, Va.; and dear friend, Theresa Sample of Manteno.
Robert Echols
Robert Echols, 69, of Kankakee, died Monday (July 8, 2002) at Manor Care Nursing Center.
Arrangements are pending at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee.
Stuart Thompson

MOMENCE -- Stuart Roger Thompson, 36, of Momence, died Saturday (July 6, 2002) at his parents' home where he had been cared for since March 2001.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made for his children's education, or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Arrangements are by Cotter Funeral Home in Momence.
He was a route salesman for Holsum Bread Company in Kankakee.
Mr. Thompson was born Oct. 9, 1965 in Grant Park, the son of Roger and Sally Sutton Thompson.
Surviving are two sons, Alexander and Brandon Thompson of Limestone Township; his parents, Roger and Sally Thompson of Momence; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Mary Thompson of North Augusta, S.C., Anthony and Lori Thompson of Momence; maternal grandmother, Rella Sutton of Lockport; his former wife and her husband, Angela and Mike Smith of Limestone Township; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
His maternal grandfather, George Donald Sutton; and paternal grandparents, Paul Melzer and Mary Helen Thompson, are deceased.
Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the Army National Guard, serving for six years in Illinois and Arizona.
He was a 1984 graduate of Grant Park High School and the U.S. Army Quartermaster School.
He was a fan of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan.
Virginia Morgan
Virginia P. Morgan, 90, a lifelong resident of Kankakee, died Sunday morning (July 7, 2002) at ManorCare Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Schreffler Funeral Home in Kankakee.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa Catholic Church and burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery. Father Dennis Settles will officiate.
Mrs. Morgan was born Feb. 20, 1912 in Kankakee, the daughter of Ignatz and Mary Pietraszewski.
Her husband, Frank H. Morgan, whom she married
Jan. 8, 1955, died May 1, 1993.
Surviving are a stepson, Jerome H. Morgan of Kankakee; a stepdaughter, Shirley Hosek of Manteno; stepgrandchildren, Frank and Kathy Hosek of Kankakee, Joseph and Christine Hosek of Bradley, Anthony Morgan of Kankakee, Paul and Julie Morgan, also of Kankakee; step great-grandchildren, Cassie and Cailie Morgan of Kankakee, Katrina and Isabelle Hosek of Bradley; a sister, Loretta Sovinski of Texas; a sister-in-law, Merlin Pietraszewski of Bradley; and a niece, Marie Buck of Bourbonnais.
Preceding her in death were sisters, Rita Lovell, Gertrude Molitor, Francis Stolarski and Antoinette O'Keefe; and brother, Matthew Pietraszewski.
Mrs. Morgan had been employed as a floor lady at the Bear Brand Hosiery Co. in Kankakee for many years.
A longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Kankakee, she was a graduate of its grade school.
Currently a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, she was a member of the Women of the Moose.
Clarence Voigt

BONFIELD -- Clarence R. Voigt, 88, of Bonfield, died Saturday (July 6, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. service at Hertz-Thoma Chapel in Kankakee. Rev. Steven Friese will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Dialysis Department of Provena St. Mary's or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Voigt was a farmer, school bus driver in Herscher, worked for the railroad, and was a Kankakee County Fair foreman.
Mr. Voigt was born Oct. 22, 1913 in Bonfield, the son of Edward W. and Esther Stroud Voigt.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy E. Speight, whom he married
June 4, 1950 at First Baptist parsonage in Kankakee, of Bonfield; one son, James Voigt of Bonfield; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Voigt of Bonfield, Art and Cleo Voigt of Grant Park, Vera Voigt of Bonfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Leonard and Walter; and one sister-in-law, Lila Voigt, are deceased.
He was a member of Bonfield First United Methodist Church for over 80 years, and had perfect attendance for several years.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Elsie Denault
GOODRICH -- Elsie E. Denault, 85, of Goodrich, died Saturday (July 6, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, with a 5:30 p.m. wake service.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Goodrich. Rev. Lee Bacchi will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope in Goodrich.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Masses.
Mrs. Denault was born Jan. 26, 1917 in Kankakee, the daughter of Charles and Frances Prilliwitz Wischnowski.
Her husband, Noel A. Denault, whom she married
Sept. 17, 1938 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Kankakee, died June 25, 2000.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Duane Denault, and Adrian and Diane Denault, all of Bradley; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Murial Van-Duyne of Gardner, Verna and James Despain of Clifton, Joyce and Robert Helmig of Bourbonnais, Nancy and Gary Harms of Manteno, Madonna and Mike Anstrom of Bradley; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Bonnie; three sisters; four brothers; one grandson, Joseph Denault; and one son-in-law, Dale VanDuyne, are deceased.
Mrs. Denault was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Goodrich, and a member of the Council of Catholic Women.

Donald Palmer
ST. ANNE -- A funeral Mass for Donald T. Palmer, 78, of St. Anne, was celebrated July 3 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Kankakee. Rev. Anthony Taschetta officiated.
Mr. Palmer died June 29, 2002.
Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee. Pallbearers were Dick Evan, Todd Lund, Stanley Sexton, Harold Darling, Ed Riedlinger and John Surprenant. Honorary pallbearer was Jim Rector.
Sherry Deddo-Lewis
MANTENO -- Services for Sherry Deddo-Lewis, 30, of Manteno, were held July 3 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Manteno. Deacon Pete Henrisey officiated.
Miss Lewis died June 28, 2002.
Burial was in Elmwood cemetery, Manteno. Pallbearers were Rich Mroz, Dan Merriman, Tyrone Pious, Rodney Arseneau, Joel Whalen and Andre Glenn.
Bessie Wilson
Services for Bessie M. Wilson, 97, of Kankakee, were held July 6 at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Thomas Wilber officiated.
Mrs. Wilson died July 2, 2002.
Burial was in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill, Brian, Jerry, Warren, Gregory and Bruce Stevenson.
