Edward Unger
COAL CITY -- Edward Unger, 83, of Coal City, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at the Grundy County Home in Morris.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Reeves Funeral Home, Coal City, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Bob Snyder will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Wilmington. Pallbearers will be Jim and Jimmy Zelinko, Mike Unger Jr., Jeremy, Ali, Leslie and Natalie Unger.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Coal City, the son of Anton and Anna Kratky Unger.
His first wife, the former Genevieve Bollino, whom he married
July 6, 1946, at Assumption Catholic Church, Coal City, died in 1967.
Surviving are his wife, the former Theresa Simmons, whom he married
Oct. 22, 1976, in Coal City; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Zelenko of Coal City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. and Jacqueline Unger, Michael and Kelli Unger, Gerald and Janice Unger, all of Coal City; three stepchildren, Donna and Sam Gervase, Gary and Cathy Simmons, Leonard Simmons, all of Coal City; one sister, Marie Leve of Coal City; one brother, Tony Unger of Coal City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
One sister, Elsie Walsh; and one granddaughter, Amy Unger, are deceased.
He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a 1936 graduate of Coal City High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the European Theater of Operation.
Mr. Unger was employed most of his life as a service mechanic, co-owning and operating Boresi and Unger Service Station in Coal City for over 36 years. He later was employed by Commonwealth Edison Dresden Station for 10 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Francis Monnette
Francis "Beecher" Monnette Sr., 90, of Manteno, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at ManorCare Health Services, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. wake service, at the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno. Rev. Edward Grotovsky will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Ceme-tery, Kankakee.
He was born June 4, 1912, in Manteno, the son of Oliver and Clara Bourelle Monnette.
Surviving are his wife, the former Clara Kocinski, whom he married
Aug. 10, 1935, of ManorCare Health Services; two sons, Francis Monnette Jr. of Manteno, Darrel Monnette and special friend, Joan Mason of Kankakee; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Joe Zagata of Oceanside, Calif., Mary Monnette of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Elizabeth Woodrich of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one brother, Paul Monnette of Oregon; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Five brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Mr. Monnette had worked at Bennett's Industries, Euziers Grain Elevator, the Village of Manteno and David Bradley.
He was known all over Illinois and Indiana for selling tickets on a new car for Manteno American Legion Yearly homecoming.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising rabbits.
Frederick Franks
Frederick Michael Franks, 51, of Nampa, Idaho, formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, Idaho, from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Arrangements are pending at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee.
Greta Haldorson
JOLIET -- Greta Theresa Haldorson, 23, of Joliet, and the niece of area residents, died Saturday (June 29, 2002).
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Reeves Funeral Home, Wilmington.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to Kuzma Care Cottage.
She was born Oct. 18, 1978 in Galena.
Surviving are her mother, Margaret Long Haldorson of Joliet; one sister and brother-in-law, Erin and Bryan Kartheiser of Champaign; aunts and uncles, Kay (Richard) Van Duyne of Wilmington, June (LeRoy) Hedgecock of Momence, Lucille Quayle of Carbon Hill, Helen (Harold) Jensen of Reddick, Alice Wills of Coal City, Betty (Joe) Panish of Morris, Stephen Long of Shorewood, Robert (Genevieve) Haldorson of Morris, Ralph (Lela) Haldorson of Wilmington; one nephew; and four special friends.
Her father, George Haldorson, died in 2000.
Miss Haldorson was a graduate of Joliet West High School, the JJC Culinary Arts Program and Le Cordon Bleu in London.
Margie Kimmel
WATSEKA -- Margie Gayle Kimmel, 56, of Watseka, died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee, after a short illness.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Danforth, where she was a member. Rev. James Gerth will officiate.
Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Danforth or to Prairieview/Faith Place in Danforth.
She was born May 8, 1946, in Watseka, the daughter of Elmer and Florence Hanson Kimmel. Her father is deceased.
Surviving besides her mother of Danforth are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Roger Young of Cissna Park, Jean and Douglas Rousey of Gilman; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Judy Kimmel of Gilman, Roger and Diane Kimmel of Madison, Wis., Rick and Renee Kimmel of Bradley; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
One niece, Jana Young, is deceased.
She attended schools in Danforth and Gilman and was a 1964 graduate of Gilman High School.
Miss Kimmel had worked at UARCO in Watseka from 1964 to 1999. She presently was Activity Director at Faith Place/Prairieview in Danforth.
She enjoyed camping and taking care of the gardens at Faith Place. Her greatest joy was spending time with relatives and attending all of their special events from baptisms to T-Ball games, piano recitals, college graduations and weddings. She was always there.
Marie Barr
MORRIS -- Marie G. Barr, 89, of Morris, formerly of Braceville, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at the Grundy County Home in Morris.
Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Reeves Funeral Home, Morris.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Morris. Rev. Robert Hoffenkamp will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Morris.
Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception School Endowment Fund, Grundy County Home Activities Fund or to the Morris Hospital Life Line.
She was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Braceville, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Ondesco Papach.
She married
James William Barr in 1939.
Surviving are two daughters, JoAnn B. Rosemont of Maryland and Mary T. Micetich of Morris; one sister, Anne Martis of Florida; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Noreen Barr, is deceased.
She was educated in area schools and received her teaching certificate in 1931 from Illinois State University.
She taught at the Sandbank and then Hamilton Elementary schools. She returned to teaching in 1957 at Conklin and then at Saratoga Elementary schools. She retired in 1972 after 23 years of service.
She was active in the Immaculate Conception Church, Grundy County Democrat Party and the Stine School Board.
Sherry Deddo-Lewis
MANTENO -- Sherry Deddo-Lewis, 30, of Manteno, died Friday (June 28, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Manteno, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Manteno.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
She was born Dec. 27, 1971, in Oak Lawn, the daughter of Raymond and Sandra M. Dycus Deddo.
Surviving are her mother of Manteno; father and step-mother, Raymond and Paula Deddo of Momence; stepbrothers, Michael and Melissa Sederholm and Charles Clark, all of Momence; maternal grandfather, Norman Ray Dycus; maternal foster grandfather, Archie J. Cook; one niece, Tiffani Sederholm; nephews, Josh and Ryan Sederholm; aunts and uncles; and special friend, Patrice Latimer-Walker.
Her paternal grandparents and maternal grandmother are deceased.
Miss Deddo-Lewis had been an aide at Indian Oaks Academy and had been employed at Wal-Mart for nine years. She also worked as an aide at Chamness Square in Bradley.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manteno.
She enjoyed shopping, music and spending time with her family.
Velma Burling
Velma J. Burling, 75, of Bradley, died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in Aroma Park cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
She was born July 22, 1926, in Aroma Park, the daughter of Clinton and Edna Sirois Craig. Her father is deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Harris Burling, whom she married
June 24, 1950, in Kankakee, of Bradley; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Tom Lippold of Aroma Park; her mother of Bradley; one sister, Lorraine Loughry of Bradley; and one grandson, Chris Lippold of Kankakee.
One brother, Warren Craig; and one brother-in-law, Leslie Loughry, are deceased.
Mrs. Burling was a member of the Protestant faith.
She loved animals, flowers and watching TV.
Wanda Henry
Wanda Marie Henry, 86, of Bourbonnais, died Friday (June 28, 2002) at her home after a short illness.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the 11:30 a.m. services at the Wilson Funeral Home, Karnak.
Burial will be in Bridges cemetery, Vienna.
She was born April 22, 1916, in Karnak, the daughter of William and Cora Campbell Bellamy.
Her husband, Orval Henry, whom she married
Dec. 24, 1934, in Vienna, Ill., is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James and Barbara Henry of Metropolis, Bill Henry of Bourbonnais; one daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Dean Sauerbrunn of Marion; one brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Vera Bellamy of Olmsted; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Alice Wright and Addie Peeler; and one brother, Lester Murphy, are deceased.
Mrs. Henry had worked at Manteno State Hospital.
