Later, he graduated from Waller High School and studied music. He became quite accomplished on the saxophone and clarinet and played in a number of bands and orchestras. He also learned piano on his own and became a life long student on it. Nick worked two jobs most of his life. The second job of playing music for anniversaries and weddings, to make a little extra for the family.
He married
a young pretty Italian girl, Sarah, in June 1940 and soon became a father to the first of their four children, a little daughter, Rosanne. A year later, a son, Edward, was born. During WWII, Nick was then drafted into the U.S. Army, where his musical gifts enabled him to stay stateside playing in the military bands.
