Marvin H. Dixon, Jr.
Marvin H. Dixon, Jr., 73, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away August 2, 2002 at his home.
He was born on February 24, 1929, in Waukegan, Illinois to Marvin (Matt) and Mildred Dixon, and was a lifelong Waukegan resident. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; WTHS Lunch Bunch Class of 1948; Anchor and Ark Lodge #1027; Waukegan Chapter #41, R.A.M.; Bethel Commander #42 K.T.; Tebala Shrine Temple; and Charter Member Tebala Motor Patrol. He was a former member of the American Bakers Association, Retail Bakers of America, Waukegan/North Chicago Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Waukegan Council, Swedish Glee Club, and was a trustee of the Waukegan Public Library.
He was owner of Community Bake Shop on Genesee Street in Waukegan until 1978. He was then employed at Lakeshore Distributors and later joined the staff at CBS Realtors until his retirement.
He is survived by his sister, Audrey (Ken) Kantola of Waukegan, three stepdaughters, Carrie Taylor of Waukegan, Heather (Jim) Dorsey of Round Lake Beach, and Melissa (Jim) King of Kenosha, Wisconsin; one stepson, Stephen Burkhart of Ventura, California, nine step grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, and one niece, Carrie Ann (Michael) Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, and his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2002, from the First United Methodist Church, 128 North Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, with Reverend Omar Logan and Reverend Dr. Gehl Devore, officiating. Burial will be at Millburn cemetery, Millburn, Illinois.

Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Hansen
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Hansen, (nee Peterson), age 84 of Pearl Lake, (rural Redgranite), and Waukegan, Illinois, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2002 at her Pearl Lake home. Ruth was born January 28, 1918 in Washburn, Wisconsin, near Lake Superior. She married
Elmer O. Hansen January 17, 1945 in Guadalcanal in the Pacific, while Ruth and Elmer both were serving in the military during World War II.
Ruth received her training as a nurse at Augustana Hospital in Chicago. She later received a degree in nursing from Bradley University at Lake Forest, Illinois. Ruth served her country as an Army nurse in the Pacific for 3 years during World War II. She later was a school nurse in the North Chicago School System for 22 years.
Ruth and Elmer lived in Waukegan, Illinois, and had their summer home at Pearl Lake, near Redgranite since 1955. The Hansens loved to travel as a family. They traveled through most of the United States.
Ruth was a life member of the Am-Vets Auxiliary in Waukegan and the Elk's Emblem Club of Waukegan. She was also a member of the local and state Retired Nurses' Association.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Elmer, a son, Richard (Susan) Hansen of Waukegan, and a daughter, Arleen Donnelly of Iowa City, Iowa, and 3 grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Marjorie (Frank) Holzer of Dixon, Illinois, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Anne L. Kanerva
Anne L. Kanerva, 86, of Waukegan, formerly of North Chicago passed away Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born December 25, 1915 in Kenosha, WI. She was a former member of North Chicago Women's Club.
Survived by two children, Judith White of Arlington Heights and Edwin (Ann) Kanerva of Severn, MD; five grandchildren, Maggie, Michael, Kristy, Scott, and Jenny; two great grandchildren, Mattie and Mitch; a niece, Alice; and three nephews, Russell, John and Tom.
preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin W. Kanerva; and a brother, John Bergo.

Adam J. Kernan
Adam J. Kernan, age 23, of Grayslake, IL passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 1, 2002.
He was born in Waukegan, IL on February 19, 1979, the son of Kathryn (nee Clark) and James Kernan of Lake Villa. He resided in Lake Villa for 19 years, prior to moving to Grayslake recently. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa. He graduated from Lake Villa District 41 Elementary Schools and was a 1997 graduate from Grayslake High School. He completed auto body/mechanics curriculum at the Lake County Area Vocational Center in Grayslake. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, great generosity and his love of cars.
He is survived by his parents, Kathryn (nee Clark) and James Kernan of Lake Villa; his sisters, Sara Patricia Kernan and Robyn Mary Kernan, both of Lake Villa and his paternal grandmother, Mabel Kernan of Lake Villa. Also surviving are many loving relatives and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward H. Kernan; maternal grandparents, Robert C. and Beatrice Clark; uncle, Robert C. Clark; aunt, Karen Johnson; and baby cousin, Brenda Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM on Monday, August 5, 2002 from RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 83), Lake Villa, IL 60046, to Prince of Peace Church for a 10 AM funeral mass. Mary Ann Miller
Mary Ann Miller, 72 years old, of Antioch, IL passed away suddenly, Thursday, August 1, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, IL. She was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Chris and Harriet (Bernhardt) Poulsen, and has lived in the area all of her life. For several years she worked at the Warwick Company in Zion, IL, then at the former Evergreen Restaurant in Antioch, and before her retirement, at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL.
On December 20, 1947, she married
Lyman R. Miller in Millburn, IL, and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons: Gerald of Antioch, and Donald and his wife, Katherine, of Bristol, WI; two grandchildren: Quinten "Jake" and Alexander Miller; a sister, Barbara (Alfred) Schettino of Lindenhurst, IL; two brothers: William (Karen) Poulsen of Zion, IL and Robert (Judy) Poulsen of Grayslake, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2002, at THE STRANG FUNERAL HOME of ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rt. 83), Antioch, IL. Sheryl Lynn Nelson
Sheryl Lynn Nelson, 34, of Wadsworth, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at her home after a hard fought battle with Breast Cancer. Sheryl was born November 19, 1967 and was a life long resident of Lake County.
Sheryl leaves behind her husband, Don and son Donny of Wadsworth, IL; parents Charles and Mildred Corder of Wadsworth, IL; brothers, Chuck Corder and Brian Corder, both of Grayslake, IL; and sister Diane Corder of Vernon Hills.

Loretta B. Turkowski
Loretta B. Turkowski, 79 of Trevor, WI passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002 at her home. She was born November 15, 1922 in Chicago the daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline (Samborski) Prush. She had spent her summers and weekends in Trevor for several years moving there permanently in 1983. Loretta was a member of Holy Name Church in Wilmot, WI, a member of the pin spotters Friday nite bowling league in Antioch, IL and a member of the Jolly Friends Club in Chicago. On June 3, 1944 she married
Edward Turkowski in Chicago and he preceded her in death on May 19, 1999.
Survivors are two daughters, Barbara (John) Cmiel of Antioch, IL and Karen Turkowski of Crystal Lake, IL, a daughter in law Debbie Turkowski of Arlington Heights., IL, 3 sisters Alexendra (Casimer) Jagielo of Trevor, WI, Anne Pezan of Flagstaff, AZ and Stephanie Magdecki of Des Plaines, IL, 3 grandchildren, Richard (Bonita) Cmiel, William (Dawn) Cmiel and Karen (Wayne) Trapp, 2 great grandchildren, Dalton and Mackenzie. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son William, a brother Alexander Prush and 2 sisters, Joan Beyna and Genevieve Prush.

Frank Cittadino
Frank Cittadino, 83, of Grayslake, IL passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at his home. He was born April 29, 1921 in Chicago, was a former 32 year resident of Leyden Township, living in Saddlebrook Farms for the past seven years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre during World War II and was a member of the Tioga VFW Post #2149 in Wood Dale. Frank was a former member of St. John Vianny Parish in Northlake and a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Fremont Center. He was a retired sales rep for the John Morrell/Scot Peterson Meat Packaging firm in Chicago, was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed golfing and traveling.
Surviving are his wife, Florence; two sons, Paul (Flavia) Cittadino of Deltona, FL and Frank (Norma) Cittadino, Jr of Lake Villa; four grandchildren, Eric (Carrie) Cittadino, Allison (David) Fuller, Scott (Christi) Cittadino and Andrea Cittadino; four great grandchildren, Christian, Michael, Abbie and Grace; three siblings, Rose (the late Anthony) Corona of Arlington Heights, Tony (Eileen) Cittadino of Streamwood and Mary (the late Ed) Lemanczyk of Northlake; and many nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be at 10:15 AM Wednesday, August 4 from the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville and services will continue to St. Mary of the Annunciation Church (original church) for Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Vinna Drucks (nee Petersen)
Vinna Drucks (nee Petersen), age 71, a resident of Oregon, IL and a former longtime resident of Fox Lake, IL, died suddenly at home on July 30, 2004.
She was born on April 2, 1933 in Roskilde Denmark to William and Mary Petersen. She was known best for having worked for Ralph's Florist in Fox Lake for 30 years before her retirement in 1994 and of course she loved flowers and gardening and rosemolle painting. Traveling with her grandchildren and spending time with he grand nieces, grandnephews as well as her family gave her the greatest pleasure.
Survivors include her husband, Robert G. Drucks of Oregon, IL; her sons, Eric (Kelly) Drucks of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Ken (Sue) Drucks of Oregon, IL; grandchildren, Amy, Rachel and Emily Drucks all of Oregon, IL, Nicholas, Michael and Matthew Drucks, all of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; her niece, Debbie (Bill) Cashmore of Antioch, IL; her nephew, Dale (Kathy) Severs of Westchester, IL; and her grandnieces and grandnephew, Courtni Cashmore of Lake Villa, IL, Sara Fritz of Fax Lake, IL, Mary Cashmore of Antioch, IL, Jannae and Kevin Severs, both of Westchester, IL; one sister, Jyttge (Bjorn) Nielsen of Denmark; and by her special Loved one, Ruth Severs of Crystal Lake, IL.

John J. "Putts" Nedelka
John J. "Putts" Nedelka, 82, of Sequim, Washington and formerly of North Chicago, Illinois died Saturday, July 31, 2004 from complications following a stroke.
He was born on January 10, 1922 in North Chicago, Illinois to John and Anna Nedelka and lived there until his retirement in 1986 from North Chicago Community High School before retiring to Sequim, Washington. He was a long time member of Mother of God Catholic Church in Waukegan and most recently, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sequim.
He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the First Division serving in Sicily, North Africa, northern France and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. A decorated war veteran, he received the Bronze Battle Star and the Silver Star for his service to his country.
Putts, as he was known to his friends and family, was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and watching his grandchildren participate in their various school and extracurricular activities. He was also past president of Slovenie Hall and a member KSKJ.
He married
Virginia Simicich in North Chicago on October 10, 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; sons, John (Leszlie) of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Michael (Darlene) of Wadsworth, Illinois, Steven (Catherine) of Gurnee, Illinois; two sisters, Francis of North Chicago, Illinois and Katherine of Kenosha, Wisconsin; three daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Nedelka; two brothers, Al and Steven; and three sisters, Ann, Betty and Mary.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in North Chicago. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
Russell H. Nordmeyer
Age 88, of Walworth, WI, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Harvard Hometown Care Center.
He was born September 20, 1915 in Fremont Township, IL the son of Fred and Anna (Bauer) Nordmeyer. He married
Ethel Hapke June 26, 1937 in Lake Zurich, IL. Russell and his family farmed in Mundelein, IL for nine years and in 1953 they bought a farm on Big Foot Prairie where he farmed until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Walworth, WI; his children, Melvin (Nancy) Nordmeyer, and Harvey (Mary Kay) Nordmeyer, both of Walworth, WI, Larry (Pat) Nordmeyer of Brown Town, WI, and Arlene Vorpagel of Walworth, WI; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Beatrice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan with Rev. Robert Rickman officiating. Burial will follow at Walworth cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at TOYNTON'S WALWORTH FUNERAL HOME and one hour prior to the service at the church.

A memorial for James G. Pierce, 82, of Mundelein is 11 AM Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Community Protestant Church, 418 N. Prairie Ave., Mundelein. He was born February 10, 1922 in Lincoln, NB and died Monday, August 2, 2004 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
James grew up in Lincoln, NB and joined the Navy in 1941. He served in the Pacific in World War II and in the Atlantic during the Korean war, He was a member of the American Legion Post #329 in Libertyville, Past Commanders Club and a member of VFW Post # 8741 in Libertyville.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June (nee Hadad), 3 sons, James Michael Pierce, Jeffrey (Leigh) Pierce, Jon (Tere) Pierce; his daughter, Margaret (Pat) Zirkelbach; six grandchildren; his brothers, Jack (Helen) Pierce, and Dennis (Mitch) Pierce; his sisters, Margaret (Charlie) Rankin and Jane Hill.

Charles Haven Requa
Charles Haven Requa of Lake Forest died on Saturday, July 31, 2004 after a struggle with melanoma. He was 61 and maintained his strength and zest for life up to the end. Born in Chicago on March 11, 1943 to Haven Charles Requa and Mary Goodrich Requa, Chuck lived nearly his whole life in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff where he owned Memory Lane Motors.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Martha nee Mance; daughters, Polly (Dave) Duchow and Marny Requa; and by his granddaughter, Eleanor Duchow. He is also survived by his father, Charley, now of Phelps, WI; his brother, Patrick Requa; and his sister, Tuckey Requa.
Chuck turned his love for antique and classic cars into a business and, among other things, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his cabin on Long Lake in Phelps, WI. He lived life to the fullest and never took it too seriously. Even his beloved business was another way for him to play.
A Memorial service will be held 3 PM Friday, August 6 at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Westminster, Lake Forest. Gilbert G. Schumacher
Gilbert G. Schumacher, 37 years old of Antioch, IL, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 on arrival of Midwestern Regional Hospital, Zion, IL, from an apparent heart attack. He was born October 21, 1966 in Chicago, the son of Gilbert R. and Barbara A. (Kaminski) Schumacher, moving to Antioch in 1978.
Gilly attended the College of Lake County and TV and Radio School. He worked for Parts Plus in Round Lake Beach as an assistant manager and was a Sprint Car pit crew member with Frank Moser and other drivers. He had also worked for Pep Boys and was certified in many aspects of the auto industry, since 1986. His interests included the N.R.A., SVT Club, Snow Mobiling, Boating and Fishing.
Survivors include his parents, Gilbert and Barbara Schumacher, and his paternal grandmother, Henrietta Schumacher Carfora; his brother and sister of the heart, Todd and Michelle Lehmann; and his God children, Michael, Steven and Sarah, all of Antioch.

Corrine M. Strazer (nee Drumm)
Corrine M. Strazer (nee Drumm), age 77 years, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away on July 29, 2004 at Pavilion Nursing Home. She was born April 24, 1927, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Roland and Ann (Wergin) Drumm.
Connie was a life member of The "Angelettes" 11th Airborne Division Association and was very active with the Ladies of the Chicago Chapter, 82nd Airborne Division Association. She was also a member of the AARP and Citizens Utility Board. She spent many years as a military (Army) wife and traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Philippines, Korea, Hawaii and Japan. She was employed at the Commissary of Fort Sheridan, IL and retired from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center Commissary. She later became an avid passenger on her husband's Harley Davidson. She was a member of "Ladies of Harley" and Lake Shore Harley Davidson Chapter.
Survivors include her loving husband, Don whom she wed on January 8, 1952, at the Methodist "Chapel in The Sky" in Chicago, IL. Her children Linda Ditello of Milwaukee, WI, Donald J. Strazer Jr. of North Chicago, IL, John (Terry) Strazer of Waukegan, IL. Her grandchildren; Dennis (Tammy) Ditello, Angela (Scott) Knutson, John Strazer II, Nina Cutler, and James Cutler. Her great-grandchildren; Steven Ditello, Brandon Knutson, Cody Knutson, Nicholas Ditello, Samantha Ditello, Tony Albarran and James Cutler II. Sister Faye (Donald) Emley of Pittsville, WI, Sister-in-law Joan Drumm of Manitowac, WI, Brother-in-law John (Delores) Strazer of Waukegan, IL. Further survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Roland Drumm.
Visitation will be at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington Street, Waukegan, IL on Tues, Aug. 3 from 5-8PM and Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 10-11AM. Services will be held at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, Aug 4 at 11AM. Interment will follow in the Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.
