Bruce A. Hudgens
Bruce A. Hudgens, 58, of Waukegan passed away on Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born October 23, 1945 in Long Beach, California, raised in Carrollton, Ohio, and had been a long time resident of Waukegan.. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a B.S. in chemistry in 1967. During his military service he qualified as an expert marksman and served in Korea as a medic with the US Army 43rd Surgical Hospital (MASH). He returned to Miami University, received an M.S. degree, and then attended the University of South Carolina from which he received a Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1975. After conducting post-doctoral research at the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Toledo, and University of Missouri, he was employed in 1979 by the USG Corp. and worked at it's central research facility for twenty five years. He also served on the governing board of the American Association for Applied Spectroscopy-Chicago Section. At home, he was as avid amateur observational and computational astronomer, personal computer expert, cat enthusiast.
Survivors include his parents; Claude and Virginia Hudgens of Dayton, Ohio, one brother; Jeffrey Hudgens and one sister; Claudia Watson. Also surviving are a niece; Christiana Watson, and nephews, Sean Hudgens and Graham Watson.
A visitation will be held from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday, July 28 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME LTD., 120 W. PARK AVENUE, LIBERTYVILLE. Interment services will be held at 11am on Friday, July 30, at Fountain cemetery, near Marion, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Wagner's Granulomatosis Association in his memory. Darlene A. Williams-Jones
Darlene A. Williams-Jones of North Chicago, age 46, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004. She leaves her loving family to cherish her memory.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, 2401 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL 60064. Pastor Gerald Wilcoxon will officiate and eulogize. The interment will immediately follow at Warren cemetery, Gurnee, IL. Jo Ann Pierce Minuskin
Jo Ann Pierce Minuskin, age 57 of Waukegan, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at her home with her family at her side, after her battle with cancer. She was born October 3, 1946 in Iron River, MI.
She is survived by her son, Steven Minuskin of Waukegan and a daughter, Julie Minuskin of Las Vegas, NV and their father, Michael Minuskin of Evanston, IL; sisters, Barbara (Stan) Miller of Gurnee and Mary Beth (John) Losch of Naperville, IL; nieces and nephews, John (Janie), Katie (Scott), Elizabeth, Kristen, Wes and Mary.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Pierce.
Services will be 2 PM, Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. Visitation will also be at the funeral home on Saturday, from 1 PM till time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jo Ann's name to the American Cancer Society.

Helen Marie Philipps
Helen Marie Philipps, 86,of Park City died Monday, July 26, 2004 at the home of her daughter Linda in Carterville, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 30, 2004 at SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave with Father Frank Plotka officiating. Burial will be in Ascension cemetery in Libertyville, IL. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to VNA TIP Hospice, 508 S. Park, Herrin, IL, 62948.
Helen was born on January 4, 1918 in Waukegan to Herbert Lee and Emelia Otildo (Steichler) Eimerman. She married William Joseph Philipps on November 14, 1940 in Waukegan. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Chamberlain of Carterville; grandson, Jon Chamberlain of Carterville; granddaughter, Allison Chamberlain of Carterville; two brothers, Herbert (Betty) Eimerman of Inverness, FL and Robert (Virginia) Eimerman of Arizona; sister-in-law, Shirley Eimerman of Gurnee; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Raymond; son-in-law, Richard Chamberlain; a niece; and a close friend, Dorothy Wirta.
Helen was a retired bookkeeper for Ray Cote in Waukegan after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan. She also belonged to the Emblem Club and the Moose Lodge in Waukegan. Helen enjoyed going out to eat, playing golf, reading, card games and senior outing trips.

Clifford Russell
Clifford Russell, age 92, of North Chicago, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Pavilion of Waukegan nursing home.
Clifford Alexander Russell was born November 21, 1911. He was the first born to the union of Earl (Bud) Russell and Ruthenia Chavous Russell. He was reared in Carrier Mills, Illinois and attended the Carrier Mills' School System. Clifford attended Southern Illinois University for a while, then in 1935 enlisted in the 9th Calvary Regiment of the United States Army. Mr. Russell went to Officer's Candidate School and was commissioned as a second Lieutenant. He fought in World War II and the Korean War, and was promoted to the rank of Captain. After 20 years, Captain Russell retired and settled in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Wichita State University, and taught in the Wichita School System for 10 years. In 1984, Mr. Russell moved to North Chicago, Illinois, to live with his sister, Patricia Hayes. He was a member of the Buffalo Soldier's Association where he served as treasurer for 11 years, a member of the North Shore Retirees Club - Chapter #30, and also a member of the Foss Park Seniors Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Clifford leaves to cherish his memories two loving sisters, Bernice Pope of Aurora, Illinois, and Patricia Hayes of North Chicago, Illinois; his nephews, Anthony Pope (Paula), George Russell Pope (Ruth), and Bertram Pitts Jr.; his nieces, Patricia Hickman, Vera Jordan, and Michelle Moton (Reginald); and a host of other relatives and friends.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carl Russell; and his sister, June Pitts.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Felty Funeral Home, 410 Oak Street, Carrier Mills, IL. Pastor Donnie Duncan, officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Lakeview cemetery, Carrier Mills, IL. A Visitation will be held at the Greater St. James Temple COGIC, 2131 Wright Avenue, North Chicago, IL, Elder Torrance Markham, Pastor, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Harold "Happy" Shales
Harold "Happy" Shales, age 81, of Waukegan, died July 27, 2004 at St. Therese Hospital, Waukegan. He was born October 23, 1922 in Waukegan.
He was a life-long resident of Waukegan and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he worked for 16 years.
"Happy" leaves behind one sister,Helen Rutkowski of Waukegan; and many nieces and nephews who knew him as "UNCLE HAPPY."
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Shales, who died in 1996; his parents, Harold and Edna Shales; his sisters, Mildred Dayer, Emma LaMartin, Lorraine Phelps, and Dorothy Hickman; one brother, Delbert "Buddy" Shales.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL, (847) 336-0127. Burial at Warren cemetery. Visitation from 9 AM to 11 AM Friday at the funeral home.

Edith "Nell" Jordan
Edith "Nell" Jordan, 81, of Zion, IL passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at her home in Zion. She was born on November 22, 1922 in Savannah, TN and grew up in Fulton, MS as the oldest of four children. After graduating high school, she accepted a bus ticket from a friend and arrived in Zion in 1941. Nell's desire to live and work in Zion resulted in the migration of many of her relatives to the Zion area including her mother and father and siblings. She met her future husband in Zion in 1946 before marrying him in 1948 and worked at Bicket Pharmacy for more than 30 years on and off while raising her family. Nell eventually fulfilled a life long dream of owning her own business when she became owner/operator of the White Hen Pantry in Zion from 1972 to 1989. She was an active supporter of Zion Business Association activities and community events and was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion. Nell was a consummate party planner and cook and her favorite activities revolved around celebrating love and life with her family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Vicki (Harold) Humphrey of Trevor, WI, Kevin (Luann) Jordan of Zion, IL, and Donna and Dawn Jordan both of Zion, IL; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Nancy Humphrey of Zion, IL and Elizabeth, Kevin II and Jackie Nell Jordan, also of Zion, IL; a great grandchild, Faith Jordan of Zion, IL; two sisters, Tina (Lester) Powers of Winthrop Harbor, IL and Dorothy (Edward) Herdliska of Waukegan, IL; and a brother, Bill (Lois) Qualls of Winter Haven, Florida. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and a special canine companion named Beauty. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Victor Jordan in 1985; and by her father and mother, Edward Qualls in 1957 and Lucille Qualls Naden in 1998.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 10 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion with Reverend Paul Gerardy Sr. of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 5 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Mary (Derderian) Sage
Mary (Derderian) Sage, 88, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan on Saturday, July 24, 2004. She was born on October 12, 1915 in Waukegan and was a life long resident of Waukegan.
Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Thomas E. Sage; her daughter, Sandra (Jerry) Larson; her son, Thomas O. (Jane) Sage; a brother, Victor (Martha) Derderian; three grandchildren, Scott Larson, Steven (Jennifer) Larson and Marsha (Douglas) Hammer; two great grandchildren, Samantha Larson and Dylan Larson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Sarah Derderian; a sister, Dicki Derderian; and three brothers, Phil, Sam and Ozzie Derderian.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 29th at 10 AM in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. 847-336-0127. Interment North Shore Garden of Memories.

Theresa L. Tucka
Theresa L. Tucka, age 84, of Waukegan passed away Monday, July 26, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL. Born August 16, 1919 in Madison, FL.
Theresa taught at Zion Central Junior High School for many years. She was a member of Grace Life Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Steve J. Tucka; two children, Wayne (Dorothy) Tucka and Tanya Tucka; two brothers, Donald (Ethel) Loper and Theodore (Ethel) Loper.
Funeral services will be held at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME of Gurnee 8:00 PM Thursday, July 29, 2004 with Pastor Robert Rhyne officiating. Interment will beheld in Madison, FL.
Visitation is from 5-9 Thursday at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, 305 cemetery Rd.

Alice Theivagt (Hoffmann)
Alice Theivagt (Hoffmann) of Las Vegas, NV., formerly of Waukegan, IL passed away July 22, 2004.
She was born March 13, 1933 in Kenosha, Wisc.
Survivors include five sisters: Marilyn, Carol, June, Audrey and Doris; two brothers: Ray and John; four children: Sandra (Don) Good, Jim (Annie) Theivagt, Debra (Tim) Mormino, and John Theivagt; eight grand children and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Kidney Foundation of Illinois National, Chicago.

William R. Cossman, Sr.
William R. Cossman, Sr., 68, of Beach Park, IL passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at his home. He was born September 4, 1935 in Waukegan and remained a life-long area resident.
He worked at Ammco Tools for 33 years, then Savage Water and Beach Park Snow Plow.
William "Bill" Robert Cossman, Sr. leaves behind his wife of 46 years, MaryAnn (nee Dubs) Cossman; sons, Dennis Cossman and Donald (Patty) Cossman; his daughters, Debra (Brian) Mellinger Sr. and Kathy (Bob) Fuesting; his brother, Jim Cossman; sisters, Rosemary Moody, Carolyn Schuler and Evelyn (Jack) Marcelain; his sister-in-law, Mel Cossman; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bill Cossman, Jr.; his parents, John and Catherine (nee Schaefer) Cossman; brothers, Elmer, Ray and Arthur; and sisters, Helen and Gertrude.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Therese Star Hospice for all their help.

Gertrude M. Farley
Gertrude M. Farley, age 98, of Aurora, IL, died on Saturday, July 24, 2004 in the McAuley Manor in Aurora, IL. Born on March 9, 1906 in DeKalb, IL, she was the daughter of James and Catherine (McCabe) Farley.
Gertrude was a schoolteacher for 46 years, teaching in Waukegan both in the Public and Catholic School Systems. Gertrude had been living in Aurora since June of 1998, moving there from Waukegan. Gertrude was a proud member of the Illinois State Retired Teachers Association and the New York University Alumni Association. Gertrude's education started in the Farley One Room School House on Nelson Road; she then attended Our Lady of Angels Girls Academy in Clinton, IA. After graduation, Gertrude enrolled into the Northern Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education, she then received her Master's in Education from New York University. As a kid growing up, the Farley's were prominent early farmers in DeKalb County beginning in 1840, and Gertrude was very proud of her family.
Survivors include: numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cousins.
preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Francis and Charles; sisters, Mabel Dullard, and Sister Mary Francelle Farley BVM.
Private Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Anderson officiating. Private burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery.
