Durell Curtis (Big Rell) Gales
Durell Curtis Gales, 18, of North Chicago, IL passed away on July 20, 2003 in Chicago, IL. He was born June 14, 1985 in Waukegan, IL to birth parents Constance M. Gales and Melvin Kennedy. Durell attended North Chicago Public Schools and was a member of the graduating class of 2003. He was scheduled to leave for Dupage University in August. Durell was an exceptional athlete and his passion was in playing basketball and football.
Durell was dearly loved by all and had a deep, abiding love for his family. He leaves to cherish his memory: Ms. Karen Hill, adopted mother, of Collinsville, MS; father, Melvin (Tasha) Kennedy, Sr. of North Chicago; two grandmothers: Ms Mamie Usher of North Chicago and Ms Bobbie Adams of Collinsville, MS; 5 brothers: Anthony, Shawn, Jordon and Jeffrey of North Chicago, and Melvin Kennedy, Jr. of Mobile, AL; 11 sisters: Latasha, Quineca, Tracey, Quiataya, Latrice, Witney, Ebony, and Jasmine of North Chicago, IL, Aundrea of Collinsville, MS, and Gwendoly and Rosalya of Mobile, AL; 18 nieces and nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 1 Corinthian MB Church, 1529 Elizabeth Ave., North Chicago. Pastor Eugene Roberson officiating. Interment following at Pineview cemetery, Beach Park, IL. Visitation 10 a.m.; services at 11 a.m.

Marie Glogovsky (nee Hall)
Marie Glogovsky, 82, of Tupelo, MS, formerly of Third Lake, IL, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Beverly Health Care, Saltillo, MS.
She was born March 2, 1912 in Island Creek, KY and lived in the North Lake County area with her husband, Steve, until his death in 1985. She also worked for a short time at Print-O-Tape Corp.
Marie is survived by her brothers: Roy Hall of Feds Creek, KY, Archie Hall of Green Acres, WA, Cecil Hall of Waukegan, IL, and Elmer Hall of Saltillo, MS; her sisters: Della Barney of Saginaw, MI and Elsie Estep of Clio, WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, in 1985, and a son, Andy, in 1983; also a brother, Bill Hall and a sister, Jessie Munson.
Chapel services and interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville on Monday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m.
Local arrangements were entrusted to the Salata-Gurnee Funeral Home.

David Gene Haymon
Mr. David Gene Haymon, age 59, of North Chicago, IL was born March 28, 1944 in Houston, Mississippi. He passed away on Monday, July 21, 2003 at home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 708 Greenwood Ave., Waukegan, IL, with Rev. Jimmie Johnson, officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Mount Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Arrangements entrusted to WESTGATE FUNERALS, 228 N. Genesee St., Waukegan, IL. Geraldine F. Joplin
Geraldine F. Joplin, 77, of Marion, IL, formerly of West Frankfort, departed this life Thursday, July 17, 2003, in Heartland Regional Medical Center. Services were held Monday, July 21, 2003 at Stone Funeral Home. Interment was at East Fork cemetery.
Mrs. Joplin was born June 14, 1926, in Johnston City, a daughter of Arvie and Teresa Kramer Dorris. She married Thomas Joplin on June 14, 1946, in Benton. Mrs. Joplin worked for many years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in North Chicago as a nursing assistant. Mrs. Joplin grew up in West Frankfort, then she and her husband moved to the Waukegan area in 1946, and stayed for 48 years before moving to Marion in 1996.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Joplin of Marion; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas D. and Donna Joplin Jr. of Zion; a daughter, Nancy E. Joplin of Phoenix, Ariz.; a grandson, Jason T. Joplin of Lake County; a twin sister, Jeweldine Dorris of West Frankfort; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jessie and Howard Shackelford of Cerro Gordo, and Marilyn Lonhart of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents and a half brother.

Michael F. Molloy
Michael F. Molloy, 42, of Round Lake died Duly 23, 2003 at Winchester House, Libertyville.
He was born January 7, 1961 in Dowagiac, MI. He lived in Franklin Park until 1969 when he moved to Round Lake. He was educated at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School and then at Laremont School in Round Lake. Michael was the most loving, gentle, and always the most courteous person to all who knew him.
He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Round Lake.
Survivors include his mother, Lucille K. Molloy of Round Lake; a sister, Clarissa Bateman of Round Lake Beach; an uncle, Amber Yamin of Round Lake Beach.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 30, 2003, from 9-10 a.m. Memorial service at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 510 N. Cedar Lake Road, Round Lake, IL. The Rev. Lisle Kauffman will officiate.
Interment in Calvary Presbyterian Church Garden of Memories.

Glenn Ione Root
Glenn Ione Root (nee Schroeder) 88, of Waukegan, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at the Winchester House, Libertyville. She was born June 29, 1915 in Chicago and lived in the Waukegan area all of her life. She worked as a sales clerk at the Wiebolt's and Montgomery Wards Department Store for many years.
Glenn is survived by her son, Robert Root of Waukegan, a brother Howard (Alice) Schroeder of Newburgh, IN, two sisters, Jane (the late Arthur) Kilponen of Park City, and Marlene (Lyle) Snyder of Zion, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Preston C. Root and her parents Walter and Anna (Barnes) Schroeder.
Friends may call Monday, July 28 from 12:00 PM till time of the memorial service at 12:30 PM at the GURNEE/SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee. Interment will be private at North Shore Garden of Memories. Donations to the Ann M. Kiley Center, Waukegan in her memory would be appreciated.

Kenneth Galloway Sams
Kenneth Galloway Sams, originally from Waukegan, recently passed away at the age of 89.
The services not printed in yesterday's paper are as follows: Friday, July 25 at 3PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 225 S. Dilger, Waukegan, IL. Services given by his sons, Kenneth, David, Donald and Larry, and daughter, Cathy.

Helen M. Sengenberger
Helen M. Sengenberger, 84, of Waukegan passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Alden Terrace in McHenry. She was born October 3, 1918 in DeKalb, Illinois. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan. Helen graduated from Norwegian American Hospital and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years with Dr. Nellins and Dr. Siddique in Waukegan.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Helen Sengenberger of Boise, Idaho; two nieces, Janet (Robert) Carnahan of Gurnee and Karen (Robert) Ludlow of Libertyville; two nephews, Roger Sengenberger of Arkansas and Wayne Sengenberger of Boise, Idaho and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Casper and Bertha Sengenberger; four brothers, Walter, Ivan, Lester and Donald Sengenberger; and her sister, Hazel Sengenberger.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Pineview cemetery in Beach Park. Arrangements are under the direction of PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan.

Jo R. Smith
Jo R. Smith, nee Rieser, age 82 of Gurnee, IL (Manzanillo, Mexico) passed away July 6, 2003.
She was the devoted wife of the late Robert Smith; loving mother of Diann Sickles and Robert W. Smith Jr. (Martha); dear grandmother of Todd (Debra) Smith, Rob (Sherri) Sickles, Jamie Sickles and Sean Smith; proud great-grandmother of Brianna and Derek Smith; fond sister of Bertha Fanella and the late Esther Supan.
Mrs. Smith loved adventure and travel, camping through North and South America and traveling through Africa, Asia and Europe. Community was important to her, being involved with Eastern Star, Lioness, Red Cross of Manzanillo and other community activities. A masterful card player, an accomplished crocheter and great entertainer, she lived life to the fullest. Her latest enjoyable endeavor was organizing the "High Steppin Hatters" Red Hat Group of Gurnee. Her greatest passions were her great-grandchildren, family and friends. She will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Lake Forest Hospital, Attn: Jo Smith Memorial Fund (in Honor of the Nurses and Nurses Aids), 660 N. Lynn C. Gamble
Lynn Gamble, age 56, passed away Tuesday July 22, 2003 in McHenry County. Lynn was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the Army. He was also a member of the Round Lake VFW Post 9649. A lifelong resident of Lake County, Lynn was an avid golfer, loved working on his computer, and spent many hours with his grandchildren.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 20 years Marvis Brinegar whom he wed on April 15th, 1983, his children Clarven (Laura) Brinegar of Wisconsin, Elizabeth (Reed) Richardson of California, Renee Brinegar of Round Lake, Heidi (Mark) Molinari of Round Lake Beach, Andrew Brinegar of Round Lake Beach, Amber Brinegar of Zion, and Cynthia (John) Cummings of McHenry, his grandchildren Amanda, Bradley Brinegar, Rebecca, Regan, Rachelle Richardson, Annyssa, Arielle Molinari, Kyle, Melanie, Nathalie Brinegar, Dakota, Sierra, Montana Brinegar,and Brannon, Cameron Cummings, and an uncle Carter McNamee of Chicago. Lynn also left behind many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dennis Gamble, a son Daniel Brinegar, and a grandson Cory Brinegar.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday July 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will be held immediately after at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Friends of the family may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday July 27, 2003 at the funeral chapel. Hilda Jousma
Hilda Winter Jousma, 104, of Orange City, Iowa and formerly of Zion, died on Monday, July 21, 2003 at Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility.
Hilda was born June 22, 1899 in Sac City, Iowa the daughter of Godefridus and Fannie (Van Zalen). Born and raised in Carnavon, Iowa and Orange City. In 1925 she married Albert Winter in Sioux City, Iowa. That marriage later ended. On December 31, 1947 she married Grant Hoerner. He passed away May 31, 1961. On November 11, 1963 she married Rex Jousma. He passed away in August of 1972 in Lowell, Michigan. Hilda lived in Orange City where she was employed at Vogel Paint and Wallpaper and she had lived in Sioux City where she was employed at Windcharger and at Great Northern Railroad. She also had lived in Pennsylvania, Michigan and in Zion. In 1998 she returned to Northwest Iowa where she made her home at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. In 2000 she transferred to the Long Term Care Facility. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orange City and she enjoyed traveling, especially with her husband Rex.
Survivors include her daughter Donna Mae Jackson of Orange City; six step-grandchildren; two grandchildren and their spouses Jay and Gloria Jackson of Zion and Denise M. and Ron Nelson of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren Jason (Heather) Jackson, JoAnna Jackson and Jonathan Jackson; and one great-great-grandson Benjamin Gerrit Jackson. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by four sisters Anna Marie Kool, Hannah Groot, Margaret Pals and Nellie Hoffman.
Funeral services were held in Orange City, Iowa. A cemetery graveside committal service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, with Rev. Les Martin of Lakeview Church of Zion officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orange City have been suggested. CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion is in charge of local arrangements.

Cathy Koziol
Cathy Koziol, 46 years old, of Lake Villa, IL passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, IL. She was born September 1, 1956 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Harry J. and Gloria (Mitchell) Koziol, and had lived in Gages Lake and Antioch before moving to Lake Villa. Cathy worked at the Modern Home Products in Antioch for several years. She loved cats and reminiscing with her family and friends.
Survivors are: her brother, George (Kerry) Koziol of Lake Villa; her two loving nephews: Michael and Christopher; her Aunt Ann (the late Walter) Koziol and her Uncle Ted (the late Lottie Koziol; several cousins; a special friend, Frank, and her cat, Autumn Joy.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME of ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rt. 83), with Pastor Darald Gruen officiating. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Friday until the time of services. Those desiring may make contributions, in her memory, to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, CO 80112 or Save-A-Pet Inc., 31664 N. Fairfield Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030.

Barbara J. Krelle
Barbara J. Krelle died in Walnut Creek, CA on July 18. She was born in Williamsburg, IN on January 1, 1920. She attended business college, briefly worked for a dairy where she met her husband of 59 years Russ N. Krelle, an advertising salesman for The News Sun. He preceded her in death in 1999. They moved to Zion, IL in 1950 where she raised two sons. During that time she worked as a credit manager for Commonwealth Edison until her retirement in 1980. Upon moving to Rossmoor, a retirement community, in 1985, Barb became active in the After Fivers Dance Club and was a board member of the Swim Club. She also enjoyed golfing and going to plays.
She is survived by her two loving sons, Spencer (Terry), Steve (Laurie); four grandchildren, Colette, Raquel (Brad), Shari (Joe), Scott and two great granddaughters, Olivia and Ava.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Contra Costa Hospice, 2051 Harrison St., Concord, CA 94520 or American Cancer Society.

John W. Muratori
John W. Muratori, 67, of Wildwood, passed away July 22, 203, at Condell Medial Center in Libertyville. He was born in Chicago on March 24, 1936, the son of Joseph and Frances (nee Mordini) Muratori. He was the owner of BJ's Restaurant from 1970-1985. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was a resident of Wildwood for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church parish.
He is survived by his children: Michael (Dawn) Muratori of Island Lake and Linda (Milo) Johnson of Round Lake Beach; his granddaughters: Aubrey and Tiffany; his brothers: Joseph (Tina) Muratori of Chicago and Jim (Marlene) Muratori of Tampa, FL; a sister, Clara Marie Rio of Hacienda, CA; his brothers-in-law: Ray (Joanne) Sakiewicz and Jerry (Bobbi) Sakiewicz, both of Round Lake Beach; his aunt, Mary Mordini of Chicago, and many adoring nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barba Lou Muratori in 2000.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Visitation is at the funeral chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave., # 2015, Chicago, IL 60602. Robert L. Payne
Robert L. Payne, 62, of Beach Park, died on Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the V.A. Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Robert was born November 17, 1940, in Gary, Indiana to Samuel E. and Pearl Payne of Zion, Illinois.
Robert was a long time resident of Zion. He attended Zion schools and graduated from Zion Benton Township High School in 1959. He also graduated from the Advance Trade School in Chicago, IL and completed courses in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL. Robert was a licensed Electrician and Journeyman. He joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and served as an Air Force jet mechanic. Robert was honorably discharged in 1965. During his technical career, he worked for U.S. Steel, Anchor Hocking, the Department of the Navy, Plantation Bakery, Fiat Allis and Ocean Spray Cranberry. Robert started his own electrical business in 1982, naming it Payne's Electrical and Repair Service. He performed electrical maintenance and repair throughout Lake and Cook County, and in the State of Wisconsin. Robert served on the board of Electrical Commission for the City of Zion. He volunteered for Zion's Civil Defense and was an CB operator for many years using the handle "Golden Hawk." Robert will always be remembered for his friendliness and "never meeting a stranger" and would always try to help anyone in need. He truly loved his family and his family and friends will sorely miss him.
Robert is survived by his wife of 41 years, June (Lee), of Beach Park and his three daughters: Jaqui Payne of Skokie, Vivian (William) Roberts of Zion, and Robin Payne of Skokie. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Pierce, Devin, and "Jordie" (Jordan); a twin brother, Richard (Annie) Payne of Guam; a sister, Irene (Coleman) Bass, of Zion; a brother, Samuel (Alyce) Payne of Kansas City, Missouri; and his uncle, Willis Payne Sr. of Zion; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. Payne Sr. and Pearl Payne, and by his son, Brian.
The family will greet visitors on Friday, July 25, 2003, from 10-11 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with a memorial service following immediately at 11 a.m. Brother Garfield Grace Jr. of the Brothers After the Order of Jesus will officiate the service.

Franklin Dee Agnew Sr.
Franklin Dee Agnew Sr., 71, formerly of Zion, died on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Bloomingdale Pavilion in Bloomingdale, Illinois.
He was born February 28, 1933 in Ravden, Arkansas, and came to this area in 1960 where he worked in the kitchen at the Veterans Administration Hospital in North Chicago until 1967. He later entered into Police work, first working for Great Lakes Police from 1967 until 1972 and then for Glenview Naval Air Station Police until he retired in 1993.
Survivors include three children, Franklin Dee (Margaret) Agnew Jr. of Beach Park, John C. (Cheryl) Agnew of Zion and Carol (Steve) Cosby of Coal City, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James C. Agnew of Xenna, Ohio, and Borden Agnew of Deer Park, Texas.
He was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Roland and Hubert; by sisters, Silvie, Thelma, Ruby, Jessie and Edna; and by his parents, James and Lou Ella Agnew.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Sunday, July 25, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Congdon Funeral Home. (847) 746-1234.
