Frank Skvarce
Frank Skvarce, 85, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at St. Therese Medical Center.
He was born November 30, 1915. A graduate of Waukegan Township High School and Moellar Barber School in Chicago. He operated his own barber shop for 55 years. A member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Frank liked playing golf and dancing.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor (VanLake); three sons, Gary of Winter Haven, Florida, Glen (Cathy) of Waukegan and Dan (Cindy) of Waukegan; four grandchildren, Phillip, Diana, Carly and Jayme; and a brother, Anton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Jeannie; and a brother, Fred.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Frank Plotka officiating. Burial will follow at Ascension cemetery.
Visitation will be at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. from 5 to 8 PM Monday, April 9, 2001 and Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 AM.

Marion H. Stephens
Marion H. Stephens, 79, of Round Lake Park, Illinois passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2001 at her residence. Marion was born May 21, 1921 in Oak Park, IL. to the late Arthur (Margaret) Conrad. She has been a resident of Round Lake Park since 1962, formerly of Elgin.
Marion leaves her children: Barbara Heath of Crystal River, FL.; Judith Shaffer of Mt. Morris, MI.; Margaret (Bill) Becker of Round Lake Park; Susan (John) Brocchini of Round Lake Park and Richard (Cathy) Gruber of Ingleside; 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Edward Gruber in 1963 and Wilson Stephens in 1991 and daughter Marion Potenza in 1998.

Joseph W. Thomas
Joseph W. Thomas, 72, of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. He was born on June 14, 1928 in Hannibal, MO., the son of the late Joseph V. and Mary (nee Riney) Thomas. He worked as a mold injector at Baxter lab in Round Lake. He enjoyed traveling and playing cards and was an election judge in Round Lake.
Survivors include his wife Rosemary (nee Zalokar) Thomas of Round Lake Beach; four sons: Joseph Thomas and Larry (Hilda) Thomas, both of Round Lake; and Russell (Judy) Thomas in Colorado; James (Katherine) Thomas in Wisconsin; three daughters: Linda Sue Thomas of Round Lake Beach; Marina (Dr. Michael) Lesser of Crystal Lake, IL., and Christine Thomas of Ann Arbor, MI.; 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; two brothers Wayne Thomas of Holland, MI., and Charles Thomas of Yuma, AZ., one sister Joann Brinton in Colorado. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son John; one brother Ronald and one sister Maureen Cox.
A funeral blessing will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the funeral chapel.
Gerald A. Yearout, Sr.
Gerald A. Yearout, Sr., of Zion, Illinois died April 6, 2001 at his home at the age of 57.
Gerald was born April 28, 1943 in Waukegan to the late Harold and Florence Yearout. He attended St. Bart's grade school and graduated from Waukegan Township High School. He had worked for Air Con Refrigeration and Heating in Waukegan, and attended the Christian Assembly of God Church in Zion.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Diane of Aurora, Illinois, Gerald Jr. of Zion and Jaclyn (Chris) Hampton of Zion; two sisters, Marie (Bill) Tripp of West Plaines, Missouri and Cathy (Earl) Roberson of Waukegan; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 10:30 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Pastor Steve Goodner officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday evening.
Kenneth P. Reed
Kenneth P. Reed, 53, of Antioch, IL passed away peacefully at home Friday, April 6, 2001 overlooking the lake.
He was born January 23, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to Bernice and the late E. Robert Reed.
He was employed as a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of IBEW Local 150. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends, and was an auto racing enthusiast, he also bowled for many years at Bertrand Lanes in Waukegan.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia; a daughter, Christina (Chuck) Norman of Santee, California; a son, Michael (Sara) Reed of Waukegan; a grandson, Nicholas Reed of Waukegan; his mother, Bernice Reed of Lindenhurst; a brother, Steven (Dorathy) Reed of Burlington, Wis; a sister, Nancy Falotico of Kenosha, Wis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Reed.

Gerald A. Yearout, Sr., of Zion, Illinois died April 6, 2001 at his home at the age of 57.

Vivian M. Fromme
Vivian M. Fromme, 89, of Waukegan passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan.
She was born January 21, 1912 in Neoga, IL and had been a Waukegan resident since 1951.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waukegan, a graduate of the University of Illinois and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Her local volunteer activities included the Board of Directors of the Waukegan Branch of the American Association of University Women, YWCA, Glen Flora PTA, Band Parents Association, Lake County Community Concert Association, Friends of the Waukegan Public Library, Past President of the Waukegan Women's Club, member Past President's Club of the Tenth District of the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, and she was also active in the Family Service Agency.
She is survived by her son, Barrie Fromme of Waukegan; her daughter, Jane-Anne Monaco of Waukegan; grandchildren, Ellyn Fromme of VA and Monte Carlo Monaco of Waukegan; and two great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fromme in 1971.

Jay "Bud" Gilbertson
Jay "Bud" Gilbertson, 41,of Spring Grove, IL died April 4, 2001 at his home.
Jay worked as a machinist for Olsen Machine in Spring Grove for over 10 years. He was and active motorcycle enthusiast for years. He loved camping, the outdoors and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his fiancee', Carol Gillespie; one daughter, Amanda Gilbertson; his parents, Pat and Toby Johnson; grandmother, Thyra Marsch; two aunts, Sandy and Carol-Jo; and many cousins. preceded in death by a brother, Bret Gilbertson.
Memorial Service will be at Marsh Funeral Home, 1840 E. Grand Ave., Lindenhurst, IL on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 2:00p.m.. Visitation will precede the Memorial from 1:00-2:00p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home. A Private Burial will follow at Highland Memorial cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
David Green Jr.
David Green, Jr., departed this life Monday, April 2, 2001 at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan. He was born June 26, 1933 to Rev. D.V. Green and Gary Lee Green in Hulbert, Arkansas. He was the oldest of three children. David was baptized at the Olivet Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee at an early age. He moved to Waukegan in 1958. David was also a veteran.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Rev. Bobby Green, his father, Rev. D.V. Green and a beloved niece Monica Dixon Green. He leaves to cherish his memories two sons Dave and Davett Green, his mother Gary Lee Green and a brother Joe I. Green, and sister-in-law Cathleen Green, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, Illinois. Rev. Janice G. Grundberg
Janice G. Grundberg, 64, of Green Oaks, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born November 6, 1936 in Tooele, Utah, was a former resident of Highland park and Gurnee and has lived in Green Oaks since 1987. She was a graduate of East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah and the College of Lake County in Grayslake. Janice was a registered nurse at the Condell Medical Center and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Buffalo Grove.
Surviving are her husband Ronald and daughter Jennifer Grundberg, both of Green Oaks; 6 sons, Glenn (Lynette) of Libertyville, Paul (Suzanne) of Round Lake Beach, Peter (Aimee) of Woodstock, Steven and Andrew, both of Provo, Utah and Phillip of Libertyville; 10 grandchildren and her mother Grace Ahlers of Salt Lake City; One sister, Ruth (Tony) Ballen of Studio City, CA; Two brothers, Loren (Ellen) Ahlers and Dick (Judy) Ahlers, both living in Utah.
She was preceded in death by her father John Ahlers and her sons David in 1977 and Michael in 1995.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Prairie and Port Clinton Road in Buffalo Grove. Claude E. Johnson
Claude E. Johnson, 67, of Mounds, Illinois left this life on March 29, 2001 at the Hines Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Maywood, IL.
Claude was born March 7, 1934 in Cairo, IL to Willie and LaVerne Johnson. He graduated in 1952 from Waukegan Township High School. Claude went on to serve his country with the U. S. Army and after an honorable discharge, he became one of the first African American linemen for Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Claude was married
to Hilta Webb and from that union they had two children, LaVerne Sherrie and Michael Eugene Johnson.
Claude leaves to cherish his memory his father, Willie Johnson of North Chicago, IL; a son, Michael E. Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, LaVerne S. Johnson of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Brendan Taylor, Shanta Johnson, Latrese Johnson, Michael Johnson and Amber Johnson; two sisters, Ruth Watkins of North Chicago, IL and GiGi (Nathaniel) Johnson-Harris of Hammond, IN; a brother, Frank Johnson of North Chicago, IL; several nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends including a very dear friend, Rev. Charles Miller of Mounds, IL.
His mother, LaVern Johnson; a grandfather, Dennis Johnson; and a brother, Marvin Johnson preceded him in death.

Elizabeth J. Swan
Elizabeth J. "Betty" Swan, 80, of Libertyville, Illinois passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the Libertyville Manor. She was born March 14, 1921 in Bloomington, Illinois, was formerly of Chicago and has been a Libertyville resident since 1959. She was a member of St. Lawrence Episcopal Church in Libertyville, where she had been active with the church choir, the Vestry, Episcopal Church Women and the St. Lawrence Foundation. Before her retirement, Betty had been the personal secretary to the president of Kemper Insurance Company and later the assistant to the store manager at Marshall Fields in Vernon Hills. She was also a former Condell Medical Center volunteer of the year, a member of the Libertyville Women's Club and was active with several area bridge groups.
Surviving are 2 sons, James (Susan) Snell, III and Timothy (Lynn) Snell, both of Libertyville; 5 grandchildren: James (Melanie) Snell, IV of Kansas City, KS., Matthew Snell of Burbank, CA., Erin, Kelsey and Lindsey Snell, all of Libertyville; 2 great grandchildren: Ryan and Riley; her brother Fred (Marilyn) Piest of Gurnee and sister Dorothy Erhardt of Elk Grove Village. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Grace Piest, by her first husband James Snell, Jr. in 1951 and by her second husband Charles Swan in 1988.

Eddie Gene Terrill, 62, of Beach Park, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1938 in Huntsville, MO., and had lived in this area since 1956. By occupation, he was an outstanding Computer Technician.
Eddie Gene was a loving son, father and grandfather. He is survived by his mother and step father, Nellie and Gilbert Van of Beach Park, his children John (Sarah) Terrill of Queen Creek, AZ., Craig Terrill of Glendale, AZ., Kimberly (fiancee Ranny Tai) Terrill of Waukegan, Jean Marie (Drake) Leoris of Somers, WI., Margaret (Brad) Kraege of Genesee, WI., Monica (Frankie) Cervantes of Beach Park and Michael Terrill of Waukegan; his grandchildren, Josh, Mary, Daniel, David and Kayla Terrill, Kevin Kraege, Kyle and Nikko Cervantes; William, Alexandra and Jared Leoris; brothers and sister, Joe (Anne) Terrill of St. Louis, MO., Jane (Charlie) Ward of Kansas City, MO., and Philip (Jeanne) Terrill of Wadsworth; step brother and sister, Susan (Brad) Herbech of Libertyville and Lee (Gina) Van of Hot Springs, AR., also by seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Irvin Terrill and wife Joanne (nee Jelava).

Mary Elizabeth Hanna Varnell
Mary Elizabeth Hanna Varnell was born January 23, 1922 to Samuel C. and Ella (Williamson) Hanna in Florence, Alabama. She was always called Elizabeth. Elizabeth departed this life on April 3, 2001 after a brief stay in the North Shore Nursing Facility in North Chicago, IL.
She lived the first six years of her life in Florence, Alabama before coming to North Chicago with her parents and family in 1927.
She confessed her belief in Christ early in her life and rededicated her life to Christ again September 22, 1992 at Christian Valley M.B. Church in North Chicago following the death of her husband of many years, Harrison Varnell, Jr.
She leaves behind to keep her memory alive, 4 sons: Michael Love, Larry Varnell, David Varnell, Jeffery (Rita) Varnell, all of North Chicago, 2 daughters: Carolyn (Tory) Conley of North Chicago and Linda (Sam) Jackson of Zion, 1 loving sister Earlene Burnley of Country Club Hills, IL., 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many nephews,nieces, cousins, friends and a supportive church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ella Hanna, 4 brothers, Samuel, Robert Lee, Thomas and Theodore Hanna and two sisters, Betty Hanna and Alice Prater.

James H. Adams, Jr.
Mr. James (Jimmy) H. Adams,Jr., 48 years old, of North Chicago, Illinois departed this life on March 30, 2001 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, IL.
He was born on May 2, 1952 to the union of Mr. James H. and Margaret (Thompson) Adams, in Lyerly, GA. He received Christ at an early age. James attended Waukegan Public School, graduating from Waukegan High School (East) in 1970. He was active in R.O.T.C. and wrestling. This earned him a State Championship in wrestling and allowed him to attend Illinois State University in Normal, IL. For a short time, he worked at the V.A. Hospital. After that, he joined the United States Army in 1974.
He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Tim, Everett and Joshua, his brothers and sisters Raymond (Celeste), Roy (Aida) Adams, Cynthia (Ronald Clark, Sr.) Threats, and Deborah (Sam) Dixon, Jr., Michael Cleaves, James Gett, Christine (LaTroy) Holman and Denise Moore, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, one great aunt Matilda Washington of Chicago, IL., and one great uncle Daniel Green of North Chicago, IL., and a very special friend Susan Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents James Sr. on April 5, 1998, and Margaret on April 4, 2000 and his grandparents.
Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2001 from 6-8 P.M. and from 10-11 A.M. Saturday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington Street. Funeral will be held Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow later on Monday, April 9, at Abraham Lincoln cemetery in Joliet, IL. and will be private for family.
