Donald Felton Doss Sr.
Donald Felton Doss Sr., 67, of Milwaukee, WI, formerly of Waukegan, IL for many years, departed this earthly life on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at St. Michael's Hospital, Milwaukee, WI.
Donald was born to Daisy (Lena) Doss and Fred Pace Doss on June 11, 1936 in Chattanooga, TN. Donald confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rock Island Baptist Church, Chattanooga, TN. He attended the Hamliton County Public School System and went on to graduate from Tennessee State University with a degree in Physical Education. Later he earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. He held the following positions while residing in the Waukegan area: Program and Youth Director of the Genesee Street YMCA, Physical Education Instructor at Novak-King School, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Waukegan High School. After retiring from the Waukegan Public School System, Donald taught in the Milwaukee Public School System for seven years as an educator and administrator. Donald was an active member of Little Fort Elks Lodge #1359 for many years and was the Education Director, and he also held the position of Esquire. He went on to serve as the Education Director for the Illinois-Wisconsin State Association for 14 years. He was President of the North Shore Anglers Fishing Club and the Unicorns Social Club.
He is survived by four children, daughters, Donna Doss and Carmen Doss both of Atlanta, GA, Kimberly (Mario) Doss-Cunningham of Chattanooga, TN and Donald (Rachel) Doss Jr. of Atlanta, GA; long time companion Vermita Walker of Milwaukee, WI; former wife and devoted life-long friend, Beverly Doss of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Fred (Martha) Doss of Zion, IL and Dean (Barbara) Doss of Chattanooga, TN; and a long host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena Doss-Cook and Fred Pace Doss; sisters, Frankie Boykin and Faye Pitchford; brother, Larry Doss; and son Jeffrey Doss.
Funeral Services and interment will be held in Chattanooga, TN on Thursday, August 22, 2003. Franklin Strickland Funeral Home, 812 Central, Chattanooga, TN, 423-265-4414. A Visitation will be held at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Rd., Waukegan, IL on Saturday, August 16, 2003 from 4 to 6 PM.

Nancy L. White Feltner
Nancy L. White Feltner, 63, born September 23, 1939 in New Jersey, died at her home in North Miami, FL and was entombed August 12, 2003.
Her father D. Ward White, M.D., mother Agnes L. White and twin children Vernon and Veronica Feltner, preceded her in death. Her daughters Virginia L. Gonzales of Kenai, AK, Vanessa D. Miller and her family of Lake Zurich, IL, her sons Richard E. Feltner and David V. Feltner of Las Vegas, NV, her brothers Robert White and his family of Florida and John Sterback, Jr. of New Jersey survive her.
Arrangements were by WALSH & WOOD FUNERAL HOME.

Monica R. Figueroa
Monica R. Figueroa, 48, of Lake Villa passed away peacefully in the company of her family on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was born June 10, 1955 in Syracuse, New York to her parents, Claude H. and Felicia (nee Czelusniak) Simons of Prescott Valley, Arizona. Monica grew up in Wells, New York; graduated from Wells High School, and went on to earn a degree in microbiology at the University of New York in Genesee, NY in 1981. She moved to Lake County, Illinois in 1993 when she was hired by CosMed of Illinois as General Manager. She is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ferdinand, of four years whom she married on April 7, 1999 in Lake Villa; her daughters Mara Beth Inja Kenyon of Waukegan, and Raquel Figueroa of Lake Villa. In addition to her parents, she is also survived by her sisters, Lisa (David) Isburg of Amsterdam, NY; and Brenda (Shawn) Smith of Prescott Valley, AZ; and her brothers, Zachary (Cheryl) Simons of New Burn, NC; Michael (Kit) Simons of Houston, TX; and Mark Simons of Houston, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 12-noon on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Lake Villa First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 315 McKinley Avenue, Lake Villa, IL 60046 with Bishop Clark Walker presiding. Interment will immediately follow at Avon Centre cemetery in Grayslake. Visitation will be from 4-8PM, Monday, August 18, 2003 at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030, and at the Lake Villa First Ward chapel on Tuesday from 11AM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be sent to Monica Figueroa's children, c/o Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium Ltd. at the address above.

Howard Chandler Harlan, Jr.
Howard Chandler Harlan, Jr., 75, a lifelong resident of Mundelein who was born February 22, 1928 in Hopewell, Virginia, died Sunday, August 10th in Biloxi, Mississippi. Howard was a World War II Navy Veteran who served on the USS Vesole in the Pacific. He was the owner of Midwest Furnace Company in Waukegan until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Lake County Contractors Association and the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 73 with over 50 years of service. He also was a long standing member of the Shriners, American Legion, V.F.W. and the Elks. Also being one of the founding members of the Diamond Lake Water Ski Club. Howard was known to all as a man who celebrated life and loved people.
Howard is survived by Margaret Harlan, his loving wife Gloria Harlan, dear sons Howard (Trish) Harlan, Randall Fisher, Michael (Claudia) Fisher, dear daughters Patricia (Richard) Parks, Vikki (Wayne) McElhose, Laura (Rick) Stoker, Angela Fisher, dear siblings Burtis (Jane) Harlan, Ruth Ann (Max Ward) Markle, Donald (Carole) Austin, Peggy (John) Gilles, fond grandchildren Julie Harlan, Shawn (Lynn) Harlan, Michael Sommer, Ethan and Harrison Fisher, Wyatt Stoker, Shannon McElhose, Ethan and Aiden Brandt, Hailee Parks, cherished great grandchildren Morgan Laurel Harlan and Nathan Chandler Harlan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Laurel, dear sons Michael and James Fisher.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 9-11 AM Saturday, with a Masonic Service at 9:30 AM, and to follow with fondest memories of Howard to be shared by all at the KRISTAN FUNERAL HOME P.C., 219 W. Maple Ave. (2 blocks west of Rt. 45 on Rt. 176) Mundelein. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to P.A.D.S. Crisis Services Inc., 3001 Green Bay Road, Building #5, North Chicago, IL 60064.

Calvin "Cal" Hartwick
Calvin "Cal" Hartwick, born September 14, 1943 died August 2, 2003 of an unexpected massive heart attack in Bruce's Crossing, MI. "Cal" had lived in Waukegan for 12 years. He worked at F&R; Sales and Service in Waukegan. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jake and Lynn Hartwick of CA and Roy and Diane Hartwick of MI.
A Memorial service will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1520 N. McAree Rd, Waukegan on Sunday, August 17th at 2 PM. All who knew Calvin are invited to attend and share their memories of him.

Helen Frances Luther
Helen Frances Luther, 92, of Zion, formerly of Winthrop Harbor, died on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at her home.
Helen was born April 23, 1911 in Ewing, Nebraska, in northern Nebraska. She moved with her family to Bloomington, Nebraska at the age of five, attended schools there and graduated form high school in 1930. She worked for several years in Nebraska before moving to Zion in the mid to late 1930's where she married William Luther. She served for many years as Village Clerk of Winthrop Harbor and she was employed by Harris Motors of Winthrop Harbor for over 30 years. She was also a longtime member of Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Biscardi of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Claudia (Tom) Luther-Trapnell and Rita Luther both of Los Angeles, California; three grandchildren, Anita (Bill) Anderson of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Dale (Kathy) Biscardi of Byron, Illinois and Carol Biscardi of Crystal, Minnesota; seven great grandchildren, Robyn, Bonnie, Angela, Troy, Nicole, Kristina and Laura; and two brothers, Harold Versaw of Franklin, Nebraska and Donald Versaw of Lakewood, California. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary in 1959; a son-in-law, Bill Biscardi; and by her father and mother, Don and Lucy Versaw.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2003 at 10 AM at the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church, 600 College Avenue, Winthrop Harbor with Pastor Gary Houghen officiating. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Visitation will be Sunday, August 17, 2003 from 5 until 8 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Memorial donations to Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church have been suggested.

Lucie Berta Petersen
Lucie Berta Petersen, 101, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the Winchester House. She was born April 19, 1902 in Germany and came to live in the USA in 1960. She was a former resident of Lansing, IL and has lived in Libertyville for the past two years.
Surviving are her daughter Liesa (Hrist) Avramovich of Libertyville; two grandchildren, Rudy (Julie) Avramovich of Libertyville and Radmila (Delimir) Stevanovic of Serbia; three great grandchildren, Dejan, Sonja and Dusica.
Services for Mrs. Petersen's family will be held on Monday, August 18 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Interment will follow at The Most Holy Mother of God cemetery in Third Lake.

William Lee Russell
William Lee Russell, age 75, born August 6, 1927, passed away in Alaska, August 5, 2003.
Husband of Lori, father of Robyn, son, Rafe, sister, Leatrice Russell Green, niece, Lisa Green, nephew, David Green.
preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hughes, Sr., mother, Mabel Winstead Hughes Russell, brother, Arthur Hughes, step-father, Frank Russell.
Bill graduated from North School, Waukegan. He attended Warren High School and left for service in the Navy during World War II. He trained as a radio operator and served on the USS Miami in the Pacific.
In 1947, Bill moved to Alaska where he settled 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle on the Sheenjek River. There he and his wife, Lori, whom he married in 1965, reared their children in a log cabin.
He was a construction worker and trapper, using a dog team and later a "snowmachine."
Burial was August 11, 2003, in Alaska. Info: 847-362-0304.

Ollie Lee Sawyer
Mrs. Ollie Lee Sawyer departed this earthly life on August 12, 2003 at the age of 98, at Provena Saint Therese Medical Center. She was born the daughter of Oscar and Carrie Coleman on May 26, 1905 in Talladega, Alabama.
She confessed Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Mt. Pilgrim Church of Talladega, Alabama. She married Jessie Sawyer in 1928. To this union, seven children were born. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family.
In 1977 she relocated to the Waukegan-North Chicago area. She joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Waukegan, IL under the leadership of Pastor Arthur J. Gass, Sr. There she served on the Mother's Board.
She leaves to cherish her memory five sons, J.S. Sawyer of St. Louis, MO, Deholly (Theresa) Sawyer of North Chicago, IL, John O. (Doris) Sawyer of San Antonio, TX, Matthew (Rutelia) Sawyer of Toledo, OH, and Otis (Clara) Sawyer of North Chicago, IL; 38 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and good friend Lillian Shelton.
Her parents Oscar and Carrie Coleman, husband Jessie Sawyer, sister Corrine, son Rev. Jimmie Lee Sawyer, daughter Josie M. Jemison, grandsons Sebristian Leigh Sawyer, Shelby Sawyer and Reginald Charles Jemison, and granddaughter Sheila Theresa Sawyer preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 18, 2003 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 409 Wainlow Avenue, Waukegan, IL, Pastor Arthur Gass, Officiating. Interment will be at North Shore Garden of Memories cemetery, North Chicago, IL. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 A.M. Joseph S. Semasko
Joseph S. Semasko, 87, of North Chicago, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Vista Health Provena St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan.
He was born on August 28, 1915 in North Chicago, Illinois and lived there all of his life.
Mr. Semasko retired from Waukegan Township High School in 1980 after 20 years of service. He also worked as a machinist at Mosso Screw Company, Good Year Hose, and Fansteel Metalurgical. He also owned Joe's Tavern.
He was a 2nd Ward Alderman in North Chicago for 20 years and a Democratic Precinct Committeeman. Mr. Semasko was also a volunteer at the North Chicago Veterans Administration Hospital for 16 years. He loved fishing, golfing, and traveling. He was a member of Queen of Peace Church, formerly Holy Rosary Church, a member of Holy Name Society, P.R.C.U., Waukegan Knights of Columbus, Waukegan Moose, and the Greater North Chicago Senior Citizens.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 18 years, Millicent (nee Sisolak) Semasko; his children, Joseph "Corkey" (Christine) Semasko of Ingleside, IL, Bernard Semasko of North Chicago, IL, Connie (Tom) Fisher of Spring Grove, IL, and Joyce (Michael) Leginski of Wadsworth, IL; his grandchildren, Ann-Marie, Jackie, Renee, Steve, Carrie, Greg, Joe, Jeff, Mark, and Lisa and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Anna Semasko, his wife of 42 years, Rose (nee Sepanek), his brothers, John, Tom (Abie), Henry, Jerome, and Vincent, and his sister Pauline.
Visitation will be held at the SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 729 14th Street, North Chicago, IL on Sunday, August 17, 2003 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will occur at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 18, 2003 at Queen of Peace Church in North Chicago, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery.

Joseph J. Sowa
Joseph J. Sowa, 83, of Libertyville, IL passed away Friday, August 15, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born November 23, 1919 in Chicago and had been a Libertyville resident for the past five years. He was a 1937 graduate of Gordon Tech High School in Chicago and served in the Army in the European Theatre during World War II. Joe was the former owner of the Owl Luggage Company and retired from the Seamcraft Corp. in Chicago. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville and the Knights of Columbus Council in Glenview.
Surviving are his wife, Lou Ann (nee McDougall) Sowa; two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Schwartz of Stillwater, MN and Jacqueline (the late Daniel) Colyer of Fellowfield, PA; four grandchildren, Jody (Kevin) Koenig, Adrianne, Katherine and Amy Schwartz; four step children, Debra (Earle) Jordan of Conyers, GA, William (Holly) McCullum of Parma Heights, OH, Robert McCullum of Macon, GA and Timothy McCullum of Chicago; 11 step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren; his sisters, Sophie Tybon and Florence Dromzalski; and brothers, Frank and Chester Sowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Anna Sowa; by his first wife, Julianna Sowa in 1967; by his brother, Edward; and sister, Helen Klugiewicz.
Prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Monday, August 18, 2003 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville and services will continue to St. Joseph Church for Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in his memory.

David Suttie
David Lee Suttie Sr., 89, of Zion, died on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at his son Bill's home in Lake Zurich.
Dave was born October 25, 1913 in Zion and lived in Zion all of his life. He was a lifetime member of Christ Community Church of Zion where he served as an Usher, including a term as head Usher, taught Sunday School and was well known as the "Cook" for the men's work parties at Camp Zion in Door County. He also owned Dave Suttie Auto Sales in Zion from 1930 until 1980, was a member of Christian Business Men's Committee of Zion and belonged to the Zion Exchange Club.
Survivors include his children Angela Maybee of Sunrise, Florida, Joellyn "Joie" (Ralph) Knepper of Zion, David Suttie Jr. of Zion, John William "Bill" (Jan) Suttie of Lake Zurich, Jane (Tim) Allen of San Antonio, Texas and Kathy Suttie of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; seventeen dear grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one brother Lloyd (Ruth) Suttie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one sister Jeanne (Henry) Meyer of Zion; a beloved sister-in-law Rachel Neal of Phoenix, Arizona; and a large number of adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie on September 19, 2000, by his son-in-law Harold Maybee, his brother-in-law Ted Neal, brothers Ken, Bob and Harold Suttie and one sister Helen Hanni.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Community Church, Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Monday, August 18th from 12:00 noon until time of services at Christ Community Church. Memorials to Christ Community Church for Camp Zion, or, Zion Evangelical Ministries of Africa, P.O. Box 727, Zion, Illinois 60099 have been suggested. The CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, Zion, is serving the family.
