Jack W. McElmurry
Jack W. McElmurry, 64, of Zion, died August 16, 2003 at his home.
Jack was born November 25, 1938 in Zion, and lived in this area all of his life. He was a graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School and Roosevelt University of Chicago where he received his B.S. and M.B.A. Degrees. He married
Eva Dye on June 30, 1962 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Jack retired from Abbott Laboratories after 36 years as a program manager. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #127 in Millburn and was an Illinois Beach Rotarian. He was an avid golfer, hunter and bowler, who loved life and enjoyed traveling and antique cars.
Survivors include his wife, Eva; four children, Jodi (Albert) Petree of Zion, Jacki (John) Mallek of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Leslie Hagen of Winthrop Harbor and Lori McElmurry of Zion; seven grandchildren, Jacob Zappa, Karleigh, Kelsi, Lindsey, Ryan Mallek and Kayla and Jaxson Hagen; Parents, Frances and Jack McElmurry of Zion; three sisters, Beverly (William Hosken) McElmurry and Kathleen (Ed Waddle) McElmurry both of Zion and Karilyn (Dan) Rushforth; nephews, Terry and Chip Hosken, Justin Evans, Neal Rushforth; and nieces, Janet and Ryann Bandovich, Courtney Rushforth and Amanda and Kara Evans. He was preceded in death by his special mother-in-law, Eula (Momo) Dye.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 10 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Pastor Paul Gerardy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 19, 2003 from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Jennie Miller Pierce (nee Jurca)
Jennie Miller Pierce (nee Jurca), 105, of the Waukegan-North Chicago area, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
She was born November 28, 1897 in Ziri, Slovenia, Yugoslavia and arrived in the United States in 1920. Jennie had worked many years ago at the Tannery in Waukegan, Great Lakes Laundry and retired from Abbott Laboratories after 16 years of service. Jennie was an active member of the Slovenic National Home and the Retirees, the Balina Club at Slovenic Home and a member of S.N.P.J. Sloga Lodge #14. She was an official member of the "Die Hard Cub Fan Club".
She is survived by her loving daughter, Lorraine (Raymond) Smith of Winthrop Harbor, IL; three very loving grandchildren, William (Kristine) Smith of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Sherry (James) Kantola of Waukegan, IL and Sandra (Martin) Meyer of Wadsworth, IL; four great grandchildren, John, Sarah and Jay Meyer and Samantha (John) Schultz; a great great grandchild, Abigail Lorraine Schultz.

Visitation for Jennie will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 729-14th Street, North Chicago, IL where services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 10 AM. Burial will take place at North Shore Garden of Memories.
Maxine C. Resnik
Maxine C. Resnik, 82, of Highland Park, IL, passed away Monday, August 18, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born April 28, 1921 in Chicago and had lived in Highland Park since 1954. She was a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago and was a school teacher for 34 years, retiring from the Holmes Middle School in Wheeling. She was a past president of the Elms Club in Highland park and was a former volunteer at the Botanic Gardens and Highland Park Hospital.
Surviving are her daughter Pamela Patterson of Chicago and many dear friends, including Richard (Shannon) Davis and their daughters, Taylor and Amanda, all of Mundelein. She was preceded in death by her husband Irving Resnik in 1987.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.
Marjorie Eileen Scheetz (nee Petersen)
Marjorie Eileen Scheetz (nee Petersen), beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on August 18, 2003, in Prospect Heights, IL. A long time resident of Lake County, Marjorie was born in Elkhorn, IA, March 17, 1914 to Hans and Katie Petersen. She received her degree in Registered Nursing from Michael Reese in Chicago, where she met her husband, Dr. Horace Scheetz. They were married
on December 23, 1939, and had three children. She is the beloved mother of Stephen (Suzanne) Scheetz of Arlington Heights, the late Nancy (Jay) Powell of Marianna, Pennsylvania and Astrid (Ben) Martindale of Wadsworth, IL; she was grandmother to Jason and Lindsey Scheetz of Chicago, Carrie (John) Provost of Mount Prospect, Curtis Scheetz of Arlington Heights, Katie, Justin and Briana Martindale of Wadsworth and Tyler and Zachary Powell of Marianna, PA; additionally, she was great grandmother to Taylor and Mason Provost; she is also survived by her sister, Thelma; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many friends and acquaintances. She will be remembered for her love and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Horace in 1995; her daughter, Nancy in 1985; her brothers, Wilmer, Victor, Archie and Vern; and sisters, Myrtle and Ruby.
Marjorie founded the Baby Clinic in North Chicago and Waukegan. She worked at Michael Reese Hospital, Dunning Hospital and Victory Memorial Hospital before working at her husband's practice until their retirement. Marjorie was a member of the Garden Club, Lake County Historical Society, Lake County Art League and Eastern Star. A life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church, Marjorie was an avid reader and gardener and was a senior volunteer at Victory Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave, Waukegan. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie Scheetz' memory, may be made to the American Heart Association.

Rev. Glenn D. Strang
Rev. Glenn D. Strang, 87, of Mundelein, IL, passed away Monday, August 18, 2003 at his home. He was born August 3, 1916 in Millburn, IL, the son of Victor and Cora (Dawson) Strang. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Waukegan where he attended grade and high school. Mr. Strang graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 with a degree in education and from the McCormick Seminary (Presbyterian) in Chicago in 1943.
On May 1, 1943 he was married
to June M. Probst in Waukegan. He was ordained by the Chicago Presbytery on May 11, 1943 and together moved to their first church in Green Valley, IL. In 1945, Rev. Strang entered the Navy as a Chaplain, serving as a LTJG.
He served as Minister of Education at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, CA before accepting a call to the Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, IL. He also served as pastor of churches in Pontiac and Kewanee, IL before retiring in 1981. Rev. Strang was a member of the Blackhawk Presbytery and served as moderator of his presbytery twice and on many committees, councils and boards of his presbytery and synod. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Antioch, IL, where they lived until moving to Mundelein in 1994.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, June and their four children, Richard (Susan) of Naperville, IL, Timothy (Sally) of Iowa City, Iowa, Carol J. Bercos of Libertyville and David (Bonnie) of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren, Shane, Brett, Katie, Andrea, Kristi, Gregory, Nicole and Tarek; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Cameron.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21 at the First Presbyterian Church, 122 N. M.L. King Dr. (Utica St.) Waukegan. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville and for one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to either the Stronghold Presbyterian Conference Center in Oregon, IL or to the SEDOL Foundations, 18160 Gages Lake Rd., Gages Lake, IL 60030 in his memory.
Hans H. Bendixen
of Mundelein
Hans H. Bendixen, 79, of Mundelein passed away Monday morning August 16, 2004 at his home. He was born in the town of Westerland on the island of Sylt in the North Sea in Germany on October 14, 1924. He was the son of Hans Bendixen and Johanna Caroline Warnemunde.
In 1954 he immigrated to the US with his wife, Maren Tiedemann Bendixen. They settled in Mundelein, IL, where he lived for 50 years. His first job was as a laborer for Hansen and Werhane. In the late 1950's he became an electrician; worked at first for Cooper Electric and then for Lakes Electric before retiring in 1990 from Aldridge Electric. Hans took great pride in his two children, Norbert Bendixen of Mundelein, owner of the Gymnastic Spot and Illinois USA Gymnastics State Chairman; and Kirsten Bendixen Mahoney of Naples, FL, French hornist who plays with the Naples Philharmonic and has made numerous recordings. He traveled far and wide to attend the performances of his daughter, to visit his homeland in Germany, and to Seattle to visit his great friend, Roy Rasmussen.
He is survived by his son, Norbert, and wife, Kim Bendixen; his daughter, Kirsten, and husband, Don Mahoney; his sister, Julie Erken of Westerland, Sylt, Germany; his nephews, Meinhardt and Hans Jurgen and niece, Christiane and special friends, Roy and Marsha Rasmussen and Bob Parr.

Juana de la Cruz
Juana de la Cruz, 89, of Tampa, Florida and formerly of Waukegan passed away on Friday, August 13, 2004 at home. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan.
Juana is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband and three children.
Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Immaculate Conception Church (Grand Ave. & West St.). Burial will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. William A. Demo
William A. Demo, 80, of Waukegan, IL, died on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan.
He was born July, 1924, in Waukegan, Illinois, to the late Adam and Mary Demo and was a graduate of the Illinois School of the Deaf, Jacksonville, IL. William was retired from the Outboard Marine Corporation in Waukegan.
He is survived by five children, William G. (Christina) Demo, Celia Marie Demo, Vickie (Scott) Bierman, William T. (Angie) Demo, and Dawn Demo; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Carlie, Chad, Madeline, Katherine, and Malorie; and a sister, Irene (John) Sojer.
William was preceded in death by three sisters, Bobby, Jenny, and Anna.

James B. Hladnik, Sr.
James B. Hladnik, Sr., 87, of Waukegan, IL passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center.
He was born August 16, 1917 in North Chicago and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. on January 29, 1979 after 22 years of employment.
He was a member of St. Anastasia Church where he had been an usher for 54 years, the Holy Name Society, Senior Bowling at Bertrands, St. Mary's Lodge 79 KSKJ and the AARP. He was also a member of the Shamrock Club at St. Patrick's Church in Wadsworth, the Knights of Columbus Waukegan Council #731.
Mr. Hladnik is survived by three children; James (Denise) Hladnik, Jr. of Lindenhurst, IL, Kathleen (Richard) Brean of Waukegan and Thomas (Elena) Hladnik of Ingleside, IL and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Albina (nee Riedel) on November 6, 1994, three brothers Frank, Larry and John; two sisters Mary and Antoinette as well as his parents, John and Catherine Hladnik.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004 at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Avenue with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Friends may call at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave. in Gurnee from 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Charles L. Urh
Charles L. Urh, 82, of Waukegan, IL passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Lake Forest Hospital.
He was born on December 2, 1921 in North Chicago, Illinois.
Charles retired as an electrician with U.S. Steel in 1979 after more then 30 years of employment.
He was a member of St. Dismas Church as well as the Homer Dahringer Post #281, St. Joseph KSKJ #53, U.S. Steel Retiree's Club, Slovenic National Home, National Rifle Association as well as the Slovenian Cultural Center.
He was also a veteran of WWII having served with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one son Tom (Jan) Gruling of Racine, Wisconsin, one daughter Kathy (Randy) Wagner of DeForest, Wisconsin. Two granddaughters Kristan & Jessica as well as one brother John (Loretta) Urh of Waukegan and one sister Frances (Richard) Pfeiffer of Hiles, Wisconsin. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Frances Urh, four brothers; Barney Krisnar, Andy, Rudy, and Fred Urh, three sisters Anna Plutkis and two in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 21, 2004 at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Avenue with Fr. John Ryan officiating. Interment will be private at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.
Friends may call at St.Dismas Church from 9:00 AM til time of service only on Saturday.
Memorials may be made in his name to St. Dismas Church.
