John Furlan
John Furlan, 67, of Zion, formerly of Waukegan, died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was born March 13, 1934 in Waukegan, and lived in this area all of his life.
John graduated from Waukegan Township High School, Class of 1952, and attended University of Illinois, Champaign. He was also a member of Our Lady of Humility Church.
John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan (nee Ruiz); a son, John of Beach Park, IL; a daughter, Cynthia (Jay) Metallo of Kenosha, WI; a granddaughter, Julia; a brother, Kenneth (Barbara) Furlan of Wadsworth; and uncle, Edward (Pat) Zelesnik and an aunt, Jennie Zelesnik both of Gurnee.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia (nee Rupnik).
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL.
Funeral Services will be at 12 Noon Thursday, August 23, 2001 with the Rev. Paul J. Cull officiating. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
Eugene T. Kovalik
Eugene T. Kovalik, 76, of Waukegan, Illinois, formerly of Edison Park (a neighborhood of Chicago) was born into eternity August 15, 2001.
He was born in Chicago, IL. on September 15, 1924. He retired from Commonwealth Edison as an Operations Supervisor after 30 years of service. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during WW II. Eugene was an avid golfer.
Mr. Kovalik was the beloved husband of Marion, devoted father of Sharon (Vic) Bianchini, Susan (Massimo Bianchini) Kovalik and Sandra (Matthew) Gramza, dear Stepfather of Michael (Madeline) Mobile, Raymond (Cheryl) Mobile and Lynn (Robert) Farmer, loving Grandfather of 18, and fond Brother of Anne Clements, Helen Bally, June Schure and the late Lloyd Kovalik and Bernice Schwartz. Schwartz.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 20, 2001 at the Church of St. Mary, Green Bay at Illinois Rd. in Lake Forest. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Mary Elaine Leslie
Mary Elaine Leslie passed away at her home in Antioch on Saturday, August 18, 2001. She had been a resident of Antioch for three years and was formerly of Waukegan.
She was born July 3, 1929 in Arlington, Mass.
Survived by her husband, Norman G. Leslie, they married
June 18, 1954. Also surviving are children, Renee (Craig) Talley of Trevor, WI and Duane (Erin) Leslie of Aurora, IL; grandchildren, Timothy, Autumn and Kaela; brother, William Burns of Mass; and sister, Louise Wagner of Mass.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary (nee Murray) Burns.
Funeral Services will be Monday at 7:30 PM at the Lighthouse Church of Antioch, 554 Parkway, Antioch, 60002 with Pastor Thomas Bartmer officiating.
She was a member of the church.
Visitation on Monday at the Church from 5 to 7:30 PM. Cremation will follow.

John J. Marolda,Sr.
John J. Marolda, Sr., 81, of Round Lake Beach, Illinois passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2001 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born October 13, 1919 in Chicago, the son of the late Frank Marolda and Angelina Scala.
Mr. Marolda was a resident of Round Lake Beach for the past 48 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WW II. He retired in 1981 from H.K. Porter Co. where he was employed as a supervisor. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and trains. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake.
He leaves his loving children: Linda (Kenneth) Swanson of Round Lake Beach; Mary Marik of Round Lake Beach; Wendy (Chris) Hartman of Antioch; John (Judy) Marolda, Jr., of Wheeling; Thomas (Karen) Marolda of Lake Villa; and James Marolda of Round Lake Beach, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; a sister and 3 brothers. He is preceded in death by his wife Audrey "Darlene" (nee Kurth) on July 25, 1995 and 2 sisters.
Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 N. Lincoln Ave. Round Lake, IL. 60073. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Dolores Irene Meek
Dolores Irene Meek, 62, of Waukegan, died Friday, August 17, 2001 in Lake Forest Hospital.
She was born August 4, 1939 in Watertown, NY.
She attended Living Waters Assembly of God in Grayslake and retired from Abbott Laboratories in 1998 after 28 years in Quality Control. Her family was her life.
She is survived by three children, Debra (Robert) Pickles of Chesapeake, VA, Karen (Gerald Tyma) Taylor of Lake Villa and Steven (Kathi) Meek of Marshfield, WI; 13 grandchildren; her mother, Irene Sandor of Eldorado, IL; a brother; and three sisters.
preceded in death by a son, Daniel in 1980; a sister, Janet Notter in 1986; and her father, William Caplicki.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday, August 21, 2001 in Living Waters Assembly of God, Atkinson and Brae Loch Rd, Grayslake, IL. Interment Warren cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Monday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd and 12:30 PM Tuesday until the time of Services at the church.
Christine H. (Danielson) Nolan
Christine H. (Danielson) Nolan, of Waukegan, IL, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2001. She was born in Chatfield, MN September19, 1913, where she also graduated from high school. She attended evening school at Rochester, MN typewriting, shorthand and bookkeeping; nursing school at the State Hospital, Rochester, MN, Adult evening school, Waukegan Township High School for records management. She was a veteran of World War II, served in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps from 1943 to 1948, physical therapy technician at U. S. Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, IL; other stations, Perdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, and Pearl Harbor T. H. She worked at the OB/GYN clinic at the Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, IL for almost eight years. She was married
to Donald E. Nolan, retired Navy veteran, until his death November 25, 1995. She was a resident of Waukegan close to 50 years. A member of First United Methodist Church, Waukegan, IL, First United Methodist Methodist Women's Group. Order of the Eastern Star #209, Waukegan, and O.E.S. #570, Millburn, IL, The Lake County Council for Seniors and A.A.R.P. (American Association for Retired persons).
She is survived by a step son, Donald P. Nolan (Lottie) of Knightdale, NC; three step grandchildren, Donnetta Liles (Larry), twins, Daren Nolan (Paula) and Karen Mangum (Joseph) all of Knightdale, NC; six step great grandchildren all of NC, Steven Timothy and Brittany Ann Liles, Anna Marie and Ashley Nicole Mangum, Joshua Dean and Alyssa Jane Nolan; four sisters, Mina Hazel of St. Paul, MN, Olga Tarara (Ollie) of Scottsdale, AZ, Evelyn Giordano of Citrus Heights, CA, and Doris Connelly (Arthur), Dousman, WI; and brother, Adolph Danielson of Milwaukee, WI. Also many nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Karen and Thorvald Danielson; five brothers, Edwin, Adolph, Clarence, Raymond and Carl; and a sister, Helen Kiltie.
Arrangements are handled by MARSH FUNREAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan, IL. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Utica St, Waukegan, IL on Wednesday, August 22 at 10 AM with Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. Interment at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, IL.

Evelyn Emilia Lorette Sedivec
Evelyn Emilia Lorette Sedivec, 82, of Lake Geneva, WI, formerly of Antioch, IL, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2001 at the Geneva Lake Manor, Lake Geneva, WI. She was born July 25, 1919 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Francis and Anastasia (Marvin) Padalik.
She had lived in Franklin Park, IL before moving to Antioch in 1952. Evelyn was a former Girls Scout Leader, member of St. Peter Church and the Altar and Rosary Society and member of American Legion Auxiliary in Antioch. She loved to cook which everyone enjoyed.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Sedivec in Michigan and George (Kay) Sedivec of Brookfield, WI; a daughter, Susan (James) Koppa of Antioch; and three grandchildren, Jim, Martha and Erin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Clarence, Willard and Frank Padalik; and a sister, Grace Maxwell.
Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St, Antioch. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Antioch. Agnes Elizabeth Anderson
Agnes Elizabeth "Auntie" Anderson passed away peacefully on her 102nd birthday, August 18, 2003 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, Illinois.
Auntie was born on August 19, 1901 in Stambaugh, Michigan. She received a 2 Year Life Certificate in 1929 from Northern State Teachers College in Marquette, Michigan. She taught school in the U.P. as well as at Stern's School and Spaulding in Lake County. Auntie was a Recreation Leader for new recruits at Great Lakes Naval Training Center from 1950 until she retired in 1967. She resided most of her life in Waukegan.
Being the eldest of 12, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Leonard, Wallace, Lawrence, Lester, Oliver, Carl, and Alden; and four sisters, Elvera Anderson, Ellida Barrett, Helen Cederna, and Alice Vaughan.
Auntie loved to bake and to travel. Her family was her life and she will be lovingly remembered by four generations of nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Karen (Albert) Alfano of Lindenhurst, IL.
As per her wishes, services were private. Arrangements were entrusted to THE SALATA/GURNEE FUNERAL HOME.
Carlton Tyrone Clark
Carlton Tyrone Clark, born on April 18th, 1977 passed away at the tender age of 26 on August 15th, 2003.
The funeral will be held at the Golden Gate Funeral Home on Thursday, August 21st in Chicago, IL at 2036 W. 79th Street. Visitation begins at noon and the funeral service following immediately afterwards.
Bertha Marie Escabi
Bertha Maria Escabi y Ramirez, died August 18, 2003 at North Shore Hospice in Skokie after a long battle with intractable pain. Born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Bertha became an Episcopalian as a teenager. She was very active in the San Andres Church as a member of the Girlfriends, a Sunday School teacher and their organist. Here in Gurnee/Waukegan she became a member of the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation since Father Wells recruited her in the 1950's.
She has a Masters in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico and came to New York by boat in the 1950's. She soon came to Chicago to visit a former teacher and stayed. She worked for the liaison office of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in Chicago prior to becoming Hispanic liaison for Abbott Laboratories North Chicago's Department of Employee Relations. She was also a technical translator of Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian for Abbott Labs.
Bertha Maria was a well known and beloved figure to the Hispanic Community of Waukegan. As Abbott's Employee Relations representative, she attended most departmental functions as well as all the functions of the Hispanic Community. She helped people get training indicated for promotions, saved some people's jobs, and had a broad shoulder for those who wanted to cry. She was always a good listener, diplomat and mediator of disputes between employee and supervisor. She was always ready to help everyone be it giving you a place to stay, cooking a meal for someone down for a moment, giving a ride to work or arranging for them to leave the job to attend funerals. She served Abbott Laboratories for 28 years and in 1982 was forced to retire after a devastating heart attack. Still she kept active in the Puerto Rican Society and community until illness confined her to her home.
She leaves behind a beloved Godson, Scott Gordon and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St., on Friday August 22, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Requiem Mass will be at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Gurnee, IL on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Scholarship Fund of the Puerto Rican Society of Waukegan or the Bertha M. Escabi Memorial Fund at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Gurnee.
LeAnna Kay Fischer
LeAnna Kay Fischer (nee Congdon), 60, of Zion died on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
LeAnna was born May 24, 1943 in Zion. She, along with her husband, Lee, owned and operated Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion. She also served as Treasurer of the Oakdale cemetery Association. LeAnna enjoyed volunteer work and was an active member of many charitable organizations including Zonta, Eastern Star and the Zion-Benton Athletic Booster Club. She was also a professional member of Illinois cemetery and Funeral Home Association, International cemetery and Funeral Home Association and Metropolitan Chicago cemetery Officials. She also enjoyed gathering with her close friends once a month for Girls Club.
LeAnna is survived by her husband, Lee, whom she married
on October 13, 1963 in Zion; three daughters LeNah Klinger, LeNora (Rick) Lambert and LeNette Livingston all of Winthrop Harbor; one son Lewis Fischer of Zion; two brothers Loren (Margaret) Congdon of Winthrop Harbor and Gary; her sisters-in-law Pam Congdon of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mary Lou Congdon of Wildwood, Illinois; her mother-in-law Lucille Fischer of Zion; many aunts, uncles and cousins; numerous nieces and nephews she loved dearly; and her dear friend Judy Blagg. The joys of her life were her six grandchildren Ashley and Breanna Klinger, Alyssa, Lindsey and Jake Lambert and Kendal Livingston. She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Evangeline Congdon, her brother Ardsley P. Congdon, a nephew Caleb Everett Congdon and grandparents Ralph R. Pihl and Florence Sweeney Pihl and Ray Congdon and Bessie Connors Congdon.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, with Rev. Roger W. Ottersen and Pastor Jon Wiziarde officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.
