Gene A. Steffens
Gene A. Steffens, 64, of Gurnee passed away peacefully at his home September 28, 2004. He was born January 29, 1940 in Waukegan where he grew up and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1958. He married
Vivian (nee Salata) on May 28, 1966 in North Chicago.
As a young man, Gene was an avid motorcyclist often competing in uphill races. From his teenage years until very recently, Gene rode his Harley Davidson down to Daytona Beach, FL where he shared many good times with his friends.
Gene was a member of the Teamsters Local 301, and had worked for Dan Lodesky Trucking, OMC and most recently Campanella & Sons where he retired in September 2002.
He was the proud founder of the Turnpike Turtle Racing Team, and during his free time he could be found promoting the "racing team" at the Dog House or the Frolic Lounge where his mantra was "I'm pure".
Gene is survived by his loving wife Vivian, daughter Lynn (Andy) Lostumo of Kenosha, WI, two grandchildren Hunter Lostumo and Brianna Haskell, one sister Carol (Joe) Johnson of Rhinelander, WI and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret (nee Coake), his father Maternus "Joe" Steffens and two nephews, David and Douglas Runnerstrum.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 15000 Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. "Motorcycles are Welcome".
Friends may call at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of Mass at St. Patrick Church.
RAYMOND S. UIMARI
Raymond S. Uimari, 62, of Sanford, Florida, died suddenly on Monday, September 6, 2004 at home
Raymond was born November 22, 1942 in Waukegan, IL to parents Raymond and Lucille Uimari. Raymond was a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph's High School, Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Sanford, Florida.
Survivors include one sister, Veronica (Frank) Fratus of Paradise, Texas; two brothers David Uimari of Grass Valley, California, and William (Rose) Uimari, of Waukegan, IL; a special friend, Carolyn Avery, of Sanford, Florida; and also he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lucille Uimari, in 1977.
There will be a memorial service in Sanford, Florida at a later date.
Martin S. Bena
Martin S. Bena, 96, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away Friday, September 27, 2002 at Condell Medical Center.
He was born October 30, 1905 in North Chicago, Illinois. He was married
to the late Helen Bena (1996) for 65 years. He worked as a moulder at North Shore Foundry and upon retirement managed Crown Liquors in Waukegan.
Martin was a member of Holy Family Church formerly St. Bartholomew at 8th and Lincoln.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a moulder for 14 years, was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, S O K O L and Fathers Club at St. Bartholomew Church.
Martin is survived by his children Gerry Gaffney of Waukegan, Marty Bena of Gurnee, Laurie (Lou) Kubik of the Marshall Islands, his grandchildren Mike (Brenda) Gaffney of Waukegan, Kaitlyn (Frank) Merlock of Waukegan, Ron Gaffney of Milwaukee, Ken (Yvette) Kubik of Huntsville, AL, Susan Kubik of Huntsville, AL, his great grandchildren Brittany Gaffney, Sam, Eli, Boden and Maisie Merlock, Louis and Kevin Kubik, and Nicholas Mazur, his sister Ann Snyder of Southern Illinois, his brothers Jasper (Bernice) Bena of Waukegan and Valantine (Marlys) Bena of Colorado.
He will be remembered as a kind man with a gentle heart.
Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 01, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church on Keller. Visitation will be held prior to the mass from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by THE SALATA FUNERAL HOME.
Mary Kelly (Sahagian, McCaffrey)
Mary Kelly, 83, of Waukegan passed away on Friday September 27, 2002 at home, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on February 17, 1919 and had been a lifelong resident of Waukegan. She grew up in the Kirk Park neighborhood and held many fond memories of the era. She was actively involved with two of the family's neighborhood businesses, The Tip Top Grill and Belvidere Foods. She was also employed by the Lake County Assessor's office and retired from ESO, Great Lakes. She had attended St. George Armenian Apostolic Church and Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her loving husband, Herbert, her son, William (Dorothy) McCaffrey; grandchildren, Jaime (Christopher) Dustan and Joshua McCaffrey; great grandson, Evan Dustan; brother, Vern (Lillian) Sahagian; sister-in-law, Margaret Sahagian; and many dear nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Verkin Sahagian; brother, John Sahagian; and grandsons, Sean and Jason McCaffrey.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday October 2, 2002 at Christ Episcopal Church 410 Grand Ave. Waukegan with Rev. Albert Majkrzak officiating. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Friends may call at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Thomas George Kennedy
Thomas George Kennedy, of Cleveland, OH, passed away September 6, 2002 at Judson Park, Cleveland, OH. He was born October 15, 1919 in Waukegan.
He was a resident of Waukegan and Gurnee for many years. He was a graduate of Lake Forest College in 1942, he received his Masters Degree at Northwestern University. He was a very active Alumnae of Lake Forest College. He lived in Cleveland for the last 48 years. He was the son of Alexander (Sandy) Kennedy and Mary Lodesky Kennedy.
His survivors are his wife, Virginia (Mohr) Kennedy of Cleveland, OH; two sons, Alexander W. (Maggie) Kennedy of Somerville, New Hampshire and Mark Frank (Susie) Kennedy of Denver, CO; and three granddaughters; a sister, Mary Jean (Kennedy) Felknor of Wadsworth, IL.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Smith and brothers, Al Kennedy and Daniel Kennedy.
At his request a celebration of life was held September 10, 2002 at St. Paul Church in Cleveland Heights, OH.
Jeffrey Alan Krueger
Jeffrey Alan Krueger, 36, of Zion died on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan.
Jeffrey was born November 18, 1965 in Waukegan and had been a resident of this area all of his life. He was a graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School, Class of 1983
Survivors include his children, Heather Krueger and Cody Kapaun both of Rice Lake, Wisconsin and Jeffrey A. and Matthew Krueger both of Waukegan; his mother Mary Lou Rapson of Zion; three brothers Michael (Patricia) Krueger of Kenosha, Richard Krueger of Rice Lake, Wisconsin and Thomas (Michelle) Krueger of Winthrop Harbor; one sister Patricia Rapson of Zion; his paternal grandfather Herbert Krueger Sr.; his maternal grandmother Anna Gainforte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Herbert C. Krueger, by his step-father Robert Rapson, by paternal grandmother Nellie Krueger and by his maternal grandfather Donald Waddell.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 30, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with Rev. David Adams of New Song Church officiating. Interment followed at Warren cemetery, Gurnee. Visitation was Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Phyllis Lindstrom
Phyllis Lindstrom, 75, of Waukegan, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Condell Medical Center. She was born December 23, 1926 in North Chicago. She enjoyed gardening & working in her yard.
Survivors include her six children, David (Connie) Teser of Kenosha, WI, Robert (Lynn) Teser of Gurnee, Michael (Rose) Teser of Zion, Diane (Les Natzel) Baldino of Milwaukie, OR., Shirley (Bill Wagener of Lake Villa, Pauline (Greg Meyer) Teser of Salem, WI; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Cecilia Zaleck, Lottie Petersen, Alice Hart, Lucille Dutton, Joan Heraver, Rita Guerin. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Casper Teser and Bob Lindstrom; one brother, Frank Michalski; two sisters, Ame Kacz-Maryn, Florence Falotico; and her parents.
Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the care of the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 EAST GRAND AVE.
Juan A Lopez
Juan A. Lopez, 71, of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2002, at the Pavilion in Waukegan, IL.
He was born on November 17, 1930 in Lubbock, TX, the son of the late Concepcion and Herminio Lopez. He was a resident of the Round Lake area for the past 30 years. On June 6, 1951, he married
the former Carmen Garcia.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen; his children, John (Mary Ann Horvath) Lopez, Ralph (Onie Hurt) Lopez, Rudy (Doloras) Lopez, Ray (Sue) Lopez, Alice (Mike Morales) Robinson, Jo Ann (Tom Aronson) Lopez and Nancy (Demetrio) Lopez-Mora; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Herminio, Arturo, Melinda, Alfonso, and Hortencia.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jose.
Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2002 from Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S. Rte. 83, Lake Villa, IL to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Round Lake, IL for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertville, IL. Visitation will be on Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m.
Edna F. Rohde
Edna F. Rohde, age 80, of Grayslake, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born in Waterloo, Iowa on February 7, 1922 to Clara (nee Raith) and Leroy Carroll.
She is survived by her son, George (Beverly) Block of New York; grandson John (Cindy) Wurl of McHenry; and son-in-law Edwin Hall of Grayslake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll H. Rohde; her daughter, Barbara J. Hall; and five brothers.
Chapel Service will be held at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, Illinois 60030 on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 12 Noon. Interment at Highland Memorial Park, 33100 N. Hunt Club Road, Libertyville, IL will be held immediately following services. Friends of the family may visit at the funeral chapel on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 from 10:00AM - 12 Noon.

Lucille Schramer (nee Klein)
Lucille Schramer (nee Klein), 83, of Libertyville died Friday, September 27, 2002 at Victory Lakes, Lindenhurst. Mrs. Schramer was born November 9, 1918 in Winfield, IL and had lived most of her life in Libertyville. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville and the Guild of the B.V.M. Mrs. Schramer had served as a volunteer at Condell Medical Center Gift Shop and until recently had been an avid bowler.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Kim) Schramer of Oak Creek, WI, Darlene (Terrance) Sugrue of Ingleside, IL and Michael (Michelle) Schramer of Lake Villa; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her brothers, Lauren (Arlette) Klein and Raymond (Lucille) Klein; and her sister, Florence Wurtz.
Mrs. Schramer was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raymond.
Funeral Services will be at 9:30 AM Wednesday October 2, 2002 from McMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville to St. Joseph Church for Mass at 10 AM. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation Tuesday, October 1 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
It was requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 4709 Golf Rd, Skokie, IL, 60076 or to a charity of choice in Mrs. Schramer's memory.
Joan Isabel Yarnall
Joan Isabel Yarnall, a resident of Lake Villa for 18 years, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2002 after a long illness. She was born April 7, 1929 in Montreal, Canada and had become a U.S. citizen. She retired in 1989 from the Lake County Treasurer's Office. On September 3, 1949 she married
John Yarnall.
Survivors include her loving husband, John; 4 children, Terry (Betty) Yarnall of Lake Villa, Stephen (Pam) Yarnall of Mackinaw, IL, David (Jane) Yarnall of Lindenhurst, and Debbie (Bill) Nadelhoffer of Lake Villa; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Charlie) Pickens, Jamie, Josh, Jacob, Erin, and Jonathan Yarnall, Carlea Gartland, Amanda and Kevin Nadelhoffer; 2 great grandchildren, Paige and Blaine Pickens; and her brother, Gordon (Lois) May of Kanata, Ontario, Canada and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Isabel (Beswick) May and her father Samuel May.
Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 East Grand Ave. Burial will be in Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
