Cleta B. Metzger
Cleta B. Metzger, age 97, of Gurnee, Illinois, formerly a long-time resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, died Sat. Dec. 23, 2000 at Winchester House in Libertyville.
She was born April 14, 1903 in Central Township, Missouri. Mrs. Metzger was a retired sales clerk for Garnett's Department Store in Lake Forest and a lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 264 in Lake Forest.
Mrs. Metzger was the wife of the late Paul Metzger, mother of Betty Jane (the late Fred) Timm of Gurnee, Dorothy (the late James) Smith of Mundelein, Nancy Mae (Richard) Fisher of Tiffin, Ohio and the late Cleta Pauline (Joe) Blinkhorn, grandmother of 16 and also survived by many great grandchildren, and sister of Price (Dorothy) Rogers of Kansas.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2001 at the Church of St. Mary, Green Bay Rd. at Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. WENBAN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Forest is in charge of the arrangements.

Gertrude Geraldine Putz
Gertrude Geraldine Putz, 79 years old of Antioch, Illinois passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at her home. She was born August 15, 1921 in Neola, Iowa, the daughter of the late Francis and Agnes (Henderson) Eckrich. After living in Chicago for many years, she moved to Antioch in 1995 and was a member of St. Peter Church. Gertrude worked as a cashier for the National Tea Co., was a Nanny caring for children and loved gardening.
Survivors include her daughters, Geraldine (Ronald) Denny and Patricia (Bruce) Cheske both of Antioch, her brother Richard (Dolores) Eckrich of Denver, CO., and her dear companion Richard Walker. She is the grandmother of 4 and great grandmother of 3. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John, 1 brother Robert Eckrich and 1 sister Doris Getcher.
Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch, IL. Interment will be in Millburn cemetery. Friends may call at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main Street (Rte 83) from 4 until 8 P.M. Monday.

Ruth B. Svoboda
Ruth B. Svoboda, 88, of Bristol, WI passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001 in Twin Lakes, WI.
She was born January 3, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Fred and Lena (Prinz) Biller, moving to Bristol from Berwyn, IL in 1994.
She was a member of St. Peter Church in Antioch, IL. Ruth was a Registered Nurse and worked at McNeil Memorial Hospital in Berwyn for several years. Later she worked as a receptionist at the Morton High School until her retirement. On October 13, 1935, she married Edward Svoboda in Berwyn and he preceded her in death in June of 1974.
Survivors include her two sons, Raymond of Bristol, WI and Robert (Clara) of Antioch, IL; a sister, Bernice Tollenaere in Iowa; she was the grandmother of Daniel (Gladys), Kenneth, David (Karen) and Richard (Marguerite) Svoboda and Kathleen (Barry) Critzer; and the great grandmother of Sarah, Richard and Jennifer Svoboda and Brennan and Casey Critzer.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, George (Mary) Biller.
Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch, IL. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch.
Friends may call at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), from 4 until 8 PM Tuesday.

Andrew F. Caviness
Andrew F. Caviness, 80, of Wildwood, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. Andrew was born on March 2, 1921 in Jonesboro, IL. to the late John and Mae (nee Black) Caviness. A resident of Wildwood since 1974, he was a former resident of Waukegan. From 1961-1970 he built and operated "Stardust Motel" in Waukegan. In 1985 he retired from the Peter Baker & Sons Company where he was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #301; the North Chicago Moose Lodge and he was a veteran of the United States Army.
He leaves his wife Karen (nee Madsen) whom he married on September 1, 1973 in Grayslake, daughter Judith (David) Vandermark of Stuart, Fl.; grandchildren, Dawn (John) Ortega of Austin, TX and Dianna (Robert, IV) Goss of McHenry, IL; and, great grandson Robert Edward Goss V. He was preceded in death by his sisters Ruby Reyes, Mabel Walker and Myrtle Potter and brother Everett Caviness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL. 60030, with Rev. Orrell Ruth and Rev. Judith Wang co-officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park cemetery, Libertyville. Friends of the family may visit at the funeral chapel from 5-8 p.m. Monday. Adeline L. Christensen
Adeline L. Christensen, 75, of Bristol, WI, formerly of the Deep Lake area (Lake Villa) IL, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Chicago, IL on March 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Anna and Edmund Kral. She was a life long resident of the Deep Lake area and was a member of the Lake Villa United Methodist Church. She was a retired secretary from the Central Baptist Children's Home in Lake Villa. One of her enjoyments in life was touring the United States, which she did extensively.
She is survived by her children, James (Carla) of Palatine, IL and Laura Sherwood of Lake Villa; her grandchildren, Andrew and Erik, and Sean and Hayley; and her sister, Evelyn (Reuben) Erickson of Park Ridge, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard in 1981.
Funeral Services will be at 10 AM Monday, April 2, 2001 at the Lake Villa United Methodist Church, 110 McKinley Ave, Lake Villa with Rev. Patricia Allen Stewart officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 1 at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rte. 83 (Milwaukee Ave), Lake Villa from 2 to 6 PM and on Monday at the church from 9 AM until time of service.

Jane Craigmiles Farra
Jane Craigmiles Farra, 78, a Winthrop Harbor, Illinois resident for the last 11 years, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Jane was born April 6, 1922 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Charles Creghton Craigmiles and Mary Heisler Craigmiles. She was a gracious lady that brought excitement and pizazz to our marriage. The mother of a son and a daughter, that she reared with love, laughter, care and understanding to be responsible adults who now contribute to our society. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion, Illinois.
Jane is survived by her husband, Howard; a son, Matthew; a daughter Tamma; and grandchildren Benjamin and Katherine Chobot.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the DAEHLER MORTUARY, Portsmouth, Ohio. Interment will be near Portsmouth. A local memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion. The CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion is serving the family.

Jasper S. Hallas III
Jasper S. Hallas III, age 61, of Round Lake Beach, Illinois passed away March 30, 2001 at his home. He was born July 8, 1939 in Waukegan, Illinois.
Mr. Hallas retired from the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier servicing the Round Lake Area.
Survivors include his loving wife Linda, 2 daughters, Kimberly (David) Hare of Antioch, IL., and Karrie of Lake Villa, 3 grandchildren, Alexandria, Ashley and Andrew Hare, Arlene (Kenneth) Wells, Joyce (George) Kalsch and loving sister Celeste (Wayne) Dykshorn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet Wood and Jasper Hallas Jr.
Services and Burial will be private. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 1, 2001 from 5-8 P.M. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Road, Gurnee. Info: (847) 336-0127.

Robert Eddie Harms
Robert Eddie Harms, 59, of Dahinda, Illinois died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa of an extended illness.
Robert Eddie Harms was born November 11, 1941 to John and Alice (Schneider) Harms in Weehawken, New Jersey. He graduated from American University in Washington D.C. and enlisted in the U. S. Navy from 1960 to 1964. He married Diane Palsrok on December 5, 1966 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He lived most of his life with his family in the Waukegan area. Mr. Harms retired as Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Chicago, Illinois. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and was an avid reader and history buff.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Harms on Dahinda, Illinois; a daughter, DVM Kim and her husband Dean Vogel of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; a son, Keith and his wife Cindy Harms of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two grandsons, Tyler and Ryan Vogel; a sister, Carole and her husband, Col. Ret. Lloyd Olson of Melbourne, Florida; a brother, Col. Ret. John and his wife, Bobbie Harms of Kailua, Hawaii; and his mother, Alice Harms of Melbourne, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, John.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 PM Monday, April 2, 2001 at Maxey Chapel in Dahinda, Illinois. There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Galesburg Cottage Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Dale G. Hoftiezer
Dale G. Hoftiezer, age 64, of Wadsworth, Illinois passed away March 28, 2001 at Midwestern Regional. He was born September 29, 1936 in Sheboygan, WI. He was a member of the Village Church of Gurnee.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie, two sons Richard (Jane) Hoftiezer and John (Susan) Hoftiezer, two daughters Mary (Scott) Magnuson and Kathleen (Daryn) Sharp, ten grandchildren, and one sister Lavern Lemmenes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abram and Clara Hoftiezer, two brothers Donald and Wallace Hoftiezer and one sister Annette Molter.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Village Church of Gurnee, 1319 N. Hunt Club Rd., Gurnee. Burial will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Sunday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. and Monday from 10-11 A.M. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Village Church of Gurnee would be appreciated.

Benedetta "Betty" Johnson
Benedetta "Betty" Johnson, 83, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Libertyville.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1918 and has lived in the North Chicago/Waukegan area since 1949.
Mrs. Johnson retired in 1980 from Lake County Press after 26 years and also worked at Abbott Laboratories for 8 years.
Betty was a former member of Mother of God Church and Immaculate Conception Church.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Edwin S. (Linda) Johnson of Warren, IL., Don Wendt of Colona, WI., and Shirley (Roger) Larson of Clairmont, FL., and her 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin B. Johnson, her parents Philip and Josephine Ignoffo, and her sister Marian Ruffalo.
Visitation will be held at SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, Illinois from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2001. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories.

Mathew Star Justis
Mathew Star Justis, 68 days old, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
He was born on January 19, 2001.
Mathew is survived by his parents, Machell A. and Micheal R. Justis; maternal grandparents, George Stoneking and Marnell Stodala of Waukegan; paternal grandparents, Micheal Justis, Sr. of Zion and Vicki Latondress of Waukegan.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 01, 2001 from 1 to 2 PM at the GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, Illinois. Services will follow at the Gurnee Funeral Home at 2 PM. Interment will be at Millburn cemetery.

Jeanne A. Mayfield
Jeanne A. Mayfield, 61, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at the Provena St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, Illinois.
She was born February 1, 1941 in Kennan, Wisconsin.
Jeanne was employed for 13 years with Ryder Student Transportation Company, Park City, Illinois.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ronald C. Mayfield; two sons, Scott (Diane) Zimmerman of Round Lake Beach, Illinois and Russell Zimmerman of Murray City, Utah; three grandchildren; a brother, Gary; also several nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Memorial Services were private. Arrangements by BRADSHAW AND RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL.

Cecilio (Chilo) Mendoza
Cecilio (Chilo) Mendoza, age 63, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away March 28, 2001 at St. Therese Hospital. He was born November 22, 1937 in Mexico. He was a member of Holy Family Church.
Survivors include his seven children: Cecilio Jr. (Lisa), Joe (Elizabeth), Agnes (Adrian) Villarreal, Ester (Gildardo) Arizmendi, Alex (Deana), Janie Mendoza and Richard, 7 brothers and sisters, Marja Alvarado of Waukegan, Mary Medina, Angie Cervantes, Josie Gonzales, Martha Mendoza, Isabel Pacheco and Raymond Mendoza, all of Texas, 23 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Family East. Burial will be private. Visitation will be at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, from 3-9 P.M. Tuesday April 3, 2001 and also 8:30-9:30 Wednesday, April 4, 2001.

Helen Marie Neumann Paddock
Helen Marie Neumann Paddock, 85, a lifelong Lake County Resident, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Beloved wife of the late Robert S. Paddock, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1934 in Wauconda, IL., loving Mother of eight children: Robert, David, James, Richard (Carol), Ray (Mary), William (Patti), Donald (Laurie) and Sharon (George) Stang and daughters in law, Joan, Gay, and LeAnne; dear Sister to Florence Kerrigan, Frances Andrews and Jim Neumann, loving grandmother of 27; great grandmother of 42, and fond aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Helen, great grandson Michael, brothers Ben, Ted, Ray, Fritz and Albert and a sister Ann Peterson.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2001 at STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) with Pastor Mark W. Anderson of the Heritage Lutheran Church, Lindenhurst, IL. officiating. Interment at Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 8 P.M. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, in her memory.

Martha L. Pottala
Martha L. Pottala, 94, of Waukegan, IL., passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Waukegan.
She was born Nov 15, 1906 in Kalevo, Michigan. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and also a member of the Ladies Guild & Women of St, Mark's.
Surviving are two children, John (Roselyn) Pottala of Beach Park, IL; Barbara (Dr, Glenn) Mitchell of Waukegan, IL; ten grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1994; one sister, Eva Densmure.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2001 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on April 2, 2001.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Marks Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
