Francisco Rivera
Francisco Rivera, 78, of Waukegan went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan.
Francisco was born April 2, 1925 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and came to this country in 1948 to settle in Waukegan. He was baptized at Calvary Temple in Waukegan. Upon coming to this country, he was employed at North Chicago Hardware Foundry, worked for over 30 years at Mathon's Restaurant in Waukegan and he retired from North Chicago Veterans Administration Hospital.
Survivors include one son Edwin (Evy) Rivera of Beach Park; one daughter Lydia Torres of Waukegan; seven grandchildren Rick (Corrie) Baez, Mitzi (Bart) Hutchings, Jeannette (Angel) Ruiz, Damaris Rivera, Rachel Rivera, Erica (Wayne) Nelson and Michael Rivera; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three brothers Florencio Rivera, John Rivera and Camilo Rivera Jr. all of Tampa, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Camilo and Maria Rivera and by two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Christian Center, 2600 Lewis Avenue, Zion, with Pastor Tim Eddy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Church. CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, Zion, serving the family.
Sophie Benson
Sophie Benson, age 88, a lifelong resident of Waukegan, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home, Zion. She was born May 8, 1916 in Waukegan the daughter of Jacob and Frances (Smole) Jereb.
On May 28, 1937, she married
Walter Benson in Waukegan. She was employed by IBEW Local #150 as a bookkeeper for many years. She was also a member of the Bonnie Brook Women's Golf League. An avid bridge players, she played at Park Place in Waukegan, as well as other places. She enjoyed traveling within the U.S., and her favorite trips were going to visit her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (James) Boynewicz of Stonington, CT; her son, Ronald Benson of West Linn, OR; four grandchildren, Katherine (Joe) Letellier of Groton Long Point, CT, John (Ruth) Boynewicz of Virginia Beach, VA, Brad (Shannon) Benson of CA and Brian Benson of CA; eight great grandsons; a sister, Frances (late Les) Koenig of Waukegan; and a brother, Jacob Jereb of North Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; a grandson, Timothy Boynewicz in 1996; and two sisters, Mary Baker and Ann Smith.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. at North Shore Garden of Memories, Green Bay Road, North Chicago. Memorials to the Huntington Disease Society of America, 1253 Worcester Rd. Suite 202, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated by the family. Rev. Barbara Ayers Donica
Age 47, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Survived by her husband, Dan Donica; children, Erica Donica and Drew Donica; one sister, Helen (Perry) Nelson; one brother, Robert (Carol) Ayers; Aunt Louise Coumbe and Uncle Edward Coumbe. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Born in Nyack, NY, moving to Joliet in 1996. Barb served many churches in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church, concluding six years at Joliet's Grace United Methodist Church. Barb was currently serving at Wood Dale Community Church in Wood Dale, IL. Barb was a Spiritual Director, Graduate of the Academy of Spiritual Formation and earned a certificate in Spiritual Formation. Member of the Joliet Rotary Club, Will-Grundy Medical Clinic Board and the Joliet Ecumenical Clergy Association.
Lying in State Wednesday, September 29, 2004 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, Joliet, IL. Alice M. Germer
Alice M. Germer, age 78, passed away peacefully in Waukegan, Thursday, September 23, 2004. A lifelong resident of Waukegan, she was born May 26, 1926 to the late John and Louise Gugala.
Alice was united in marriage to the late John "Jack" W. Germer on October 18, 1947 at Holy Family Catholic Church in North Chicago. She belonged to Bonnie Brook Senior Golf Association, PNA Insurance, and participated in the Polish American Legion of Veterans with her late husband.
Alice leaves her loving family to cherish her memory. Her loving daughter, Jacqueline (Paul) Sonnenberg; her grandchildren, Rochelle (Shane) Dukas, Byron (Melanie) Sonnenberg and Stephen Sonnenberg; dear great-granddaughter, Alexandria Dukas; fond sister, Helen (Chuck) Hines of Long Beach, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and good friend Millie Terchek.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, John "Jack" W. Germer; her brothers, John, Narcy, and Chester Gugala; and brother-in-law, Jerry Germer.
The memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2004 at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, Richard S. Zaehringer, Director, 1475 N. cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031. Genevieve "Jean" I. Navulis
Genevieve "Jean" I. Navulis, age 73, of Waukegan, lost her fight with cancer and passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at her home. She was born October 3, 1930 in Kenosha, WI to Anthony and Josephine (Digris) Kaminski. On September 17, 1955, she married
John Navulis in Kenosha.
Born in raised in Kenosha, she moved to Waukegan with her husband. She was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was her beloved grandchildren. She was also an avid bingo player and enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, John; two daughters, JoAnn (John) Clarke of Ann Arbor, MI and Jody (Joe) Loffredo of Kenosha; a son, Jim (Terri) Navulis of Wadsworth; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, and Abby Clarke, Joey and Jonathan Loffredo and Derek and Megan Navulis; nieces, Carol Reding of Lincolnshire and Mary Lesniack; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Stella Urbaitis and Ann Bitautis; and three brothers, Anthony, Ben and Harry Kaminski.

Howard William Peskator
Howard William Peskator, 81, of Gurnee passed away Thursday, September 23, 2004 at St. Therese Hospital. He was born March 8, 1923 in Chicago, IL. He was a member of St. Dismas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Polish V.F.W., Moose Club, A.W.W.A. and the Boy Scouts of America. He retired from the Waukegan Water Plant after 36 years of service, starting as a chemist in 1951, and was promoted to Superintendent in 1972. He began at Loyola University in Chicago and completed his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and Bacteriology at Lake Forest College. He holds a Master's Degree in Chemistry from DePaul University and in Education from Roosevelt University.
Survived by his wife, Geraldine "Peggy"; a son, Henry (Blanca) Peskator; two grandchildren, Anthony and Valeria Peskator; and many nieces and nephews.

Otha T. Rhodes
Otha T. Rhodes, 79, of Beach Park died on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan.
Otha was born August 23, 1925 in Tishamingo, Mississippi and came to this area in 1952. He retired is 1987 from Johns-Manville after 35 years and he was a member of Primitive Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart at the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eula Rhodes; two sons, Thomas (Pamela) Rhodes of Beach Park and Jerry Rhodes of Parker, Colorado; two grandchildren, Gina Rhodes and Heidi Rhodes; two brothers, Jimmie Mack Rhodes of Monteagle, Tennessee and Hollis Wayne Rhodes of Red Bay, Alabama; a sister, Nellie Ruth Rhodes of Belmont, Mississippi; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton C. Rhodes and Bobby Joe Rhodes; and by his parents, Lee and Luzina Rhodes.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 10 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Rev. J.C. Stanaland officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Mary Jane Rukstales
Mary Jane Rukstales, 80, of Zion died on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan.
She was born July 10, 1924 in Rochelle, IL and was employed as a registered nurse at the Veterans Hospital in North Chicago, and also was a relief nurse at the U.S. Steel Plant Wire Mill in North Chicago through the 1960's. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Waukegan. Mary operated Al's Paint and Wall Coverings, (which later became Mary's Crafts) in Zion from 1959-1995. She belonged to the National Association of Business Women and was awarded "Business Woman of the Year" in 1969. Mary was active in the community as a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, and participated in many charitable and civic organizations in the Zion area.
She is survived by two sons, John Rukstales of Burlington, WI and Bruce Rukstales of Antigo, WI; six grandchildren, Melissa Harris, Everett, Earl, Brianna, Gunnur and Arianna Rukstales; two great grandchildren, Noah and Jeremiah Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1956; a sister, Rita Jones; and her parents, George and Reva Koch.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion with Reverend Paul Gerardy Sr. of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion officiating. Walter Ray Shepard
Walter Ray Shepard was born on August 22, 1955 to Ora Dee and Charles L. Shepard in Marion AL. Growing up in Marion, AL, he accepted Christ and learned hard work at an early age. Walter graduated from Waukegan High School in Waukegan, IL. He soon went to work at what is now known as the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation, where he worked diligently for almost 30 years, and made many friends.
Walter married
his childhood sweetheart, Regina Hudson, and to this union was born two children, Earl Hudson and Shamona Shepard. Walter had many passions. One was model car building, and another was the constant improvement of his 1979 Ford Truck, which he proudly displayed in Waukegan's Scoop the Loop, yearly.
Walter leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Regina; his children, Earl Hudson and Shamona Shepard; one grandchild, Tyrese Lester; his parents, Ora Dee and Charles L. Shepard; five brothers. Lee, Gregory, Lindsay, William and Ronnie (Jacqueline) Shepard; three sisters, Linda Jean Walker, Rachel (Joseph) Washington, and Rebecca Shepard-Turner; a mother-in-law, Helen Hudson; two sisters-in-law, Mariette Cheatam and Kim Hudson (Kevin Smith); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Theodora Urbick (nee Bagdonas)
Theodora Urbick (nee Bagdonas), 94 passed away Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She was born on January 1, 1910 in Waukegan, IL where she had lived all of her life.
Theodora was an operator at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for many years. She was a former member of St. Bart's Church and St. Bart's Senior Club in Waukegan, IL.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Urbick of Chicago, IL; a sister-in-law, Louise Bagdonas of Orlando, FL; three nephews, Charles (Carolyn) Bagdon of Lake Bluff, IL, Michael (Carol) Bagdonas of Orinda, CA and John (Kim) Bagdon of Orlando, FL; and a niece, Carol Blanchard of Chicago, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Alice Blanchard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave., Waukegan, IL. She will be laid to rest at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
