Fay "Momo" Betancourt
Fay "Momo" Betancourt, 65, of Beach Park died Thursday, September 25, 2003 at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan.
Fay was born January 6, 1938 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and moved to this area in 1949. She married
Joe Betancourt in 1953 in Rockford, Illinois and was a member of Northpoint Community Church in Winthrop Harbor. She worked for Fansteel in North Chicago, Illinois for 13 years. Fay was a devoted wife, grandmother and great-grandmother and was close to her Lord and Savior and enjoyed writing poems.
Survivors include her husband, Joe; one son, Johnny (Betsy) Betancourt of Winthrop Harbor; three daughters, Linda (Paul Pavelski) Stratton of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Cathy (Al) Fox of Winthrop Harbor, and Brenda (Jim) Kratovil of Waukegan; six grandchildren, William (Jeannette) Stratton of Brandon, Florida, Melissa Stratton of Kenosha, Joshua Fox of Winthrop Harbor, Danny and Katie Kratovil of Waukegan, and Johnathan Betancourt of Winthrop Harbor; one great-grandson, Zachary Raidart; one brother, Paul (Alice) Kirkley of Beach Park; three sisters, Louventrice Cook of Florida, Ruth Simpson of Alabama, and Wynell (Bob) Miller of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ramon "Joey" Betancourt in 1996.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor Dennis Corley of Northpoint Community Church of Winthrop Harbor officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview cemetery in Beach Park. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
William "Craigen" Craigen
William "Craigen" Craigen, age 57, of North Chicago, Illinois suddenly departed this earthly life on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Provena St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan.
He was born September 5, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois and has resided in the Chicago area most of his life. William was self-employed in auto mechanics.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife Carie; nine sons William Craigen Jr., Stephen (Nikki), Charles (Jocelyn), Courtney LaTrell, Justine Cantrell, Melvin McKenzie, Blake Vontrell, Chappel William and William Craigen III and a special son Anthony Coleman; seven daughters Tonya (Timothy) Wilburn, Rachel Riggins, Geraldine Montgomery, Vonetta, Crystalynn, Tasha and Genesis Craigen; three brothers Arthur (Mary), Alvin (Ernestine) Craigen of Waukegan, Melvin (Catherine) Craigen of Elgin, IL; three sisters Deloris Scott of Waukegan, Dorothy Craigen-Phifer and Arnita Hollingsworth Davis; two sister-in-laws Geraldine (Howard) Tanner and Catherine "Renie" Bankston; 31 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and four very dear friends Freddie Johnson, Dennis North, Peter Reed and Leon Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Annie and William Craigen, his daughter O'Neal and brother-in-law James Scott.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Christian Valley Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL with Pastor Henry Woods officiating. John D. Foss Sr.
John D. Foss Sr., 81, of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin, passed away after a long illness on Monday, September 22, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan with his family at his side.
John was born in Chicago on February 21, 1922. He was a resident of Paddock Lake for 22 years. married 55 years, he was the beloved husband of Helen W. Soethe Foss.
John served in the 1st Marine Division in World War II and fought in seven major campaigns including Pearl Harbor, Wake Island, the Battle of Midway, Peleliu, and Okinawa. After the war, as a staff sergeant, he served an extended enlistment in China as a U.S. China Marine.
John's civilian life included volunteerism with the Civil Defense and the Marine Corps League Toys for Tots program. He was an amateur radio (K9QNV/W4PEN) enthusiast participating daily with the Jarhead Network, a member of the Westosha Marines and lifetime member of the VFW, an avid fisherman and photographer, and enjoyed spending time with his wife.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen; son, Thomas Foss of Wonder Lake, Illinois; daughter, Pattie (Bill) Todd of Lindenhurst; and a granddaughter, Catalina Todd.
John was preceded in death by his children, Barbara Helen Foss and John D. Foss Jr., his parents, Clarence B. Foss and Della (Foley) Foss, and brother, Eugene J. Foss.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2003, at Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S. Milwaukee Avenue (Rte. 83), Lake Villa, IL. Funeral services will begin Saturday, 9:30 a.m. from Ringa Funeral Home, to Prince of Peace Church, Lake Villa, IL, for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass. Interment Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Alsip, Illinois.

Donna Lee Gunder
Donna Lee Gunder, 68, of McHenry, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. She was born July 28, 1935 in Libertyville and was a resident of McHenry for the past 48 years. Donna was a 1953 graduate of Libertyville High School and a former member of St. Joseph Parish.
Surviving are her husband George Gunder of McHenry and daughters, Gail (Steve) Chinitz of Avon, CT and Tami (Mark) Zukoski of Barrington Hills; three grandchildren, Brianna, Kali and Jaclyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Leona Gould and by her sister Dolores Flood.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 26 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. A graveside service will be held on Saturday morning at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.

Carol A. Hetzel
Carol A. Hetzel, 71, of Lake Ville, IL passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, IL.
She was born in Berwyn, IL on October 23, 1931, the daughter of the late Emil and Mildred Anderle. She was a life long summer resident of Lake County, and became a permanent resident of Lake Villa in 1991. She moved there from LaGrange, IL. She was a retired teacher, devoting 32 years to her profession. She enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas, they were married
on December 20, 1975; her children, Michael John Moravek of Lake Villa, Andrew John (Kathleen) Moravek of Downers Grove, IL, Daniel Lee (Cindy) Moravek of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Kala, Michelle, Lexi, Jacob, Corey, and Katie Rose; great-grandchildren, Kala, Sammy, Timmy, Andy and Lance; brother, John (Holly) Andrele of Lake Villa, IL.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carrie Lynn Moravek; and her great-grandson, Dustin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2003, at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 83), Lake Villa, IL 60046, with Rev. Gary Curl officiating. Interment will be private. Warren W. Mordhorst
Warren W. Mordhorst passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center. He was born August 5, 1911 in Waukegan where he lived all of his life. He was retired from Johnson Motors after 35 years of service. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and AARP.
He is survived by his loving wife Lucille. They would have celebrated their 70th Anniversary October 5. He is also survived by his daughter Joanne Leonaitis of Waukegan; his son Ronald (MaryJo) Mordhorst of Belleville, IL; five grandchildren Laurie (Mike) Blinn, Kerrie (Mike) Harwig, David (Vivian) Mordhorst, Mary (Bill) Bertrand and Robert Mordhorst; eight great-grandchildren Matthew (Jennifer) Haas, Greg Haas, Kristie Haas, Jeremy and Brian Jones, Anna and Allison Mordhorst, and Eleanor Bertrand; his sister Velona Lefco of Madison, WI; two sisters-in-law Marian Holem of Gurnee, IL and Kay Chelstad of Sioux City, IA; and one brother-in-law Cinto Martinez of Waukegan; special care givers Ron and Linda Hartke and George and Alice Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Florence Mordhorst; his brothers Clarence, Lester and Floyd; his sisters Evelyn Murphy and Mildred Martinez; son-in-law Walter Leonaitis.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 26 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. and one hour before the funeral service, which will take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 620 Grove Ave., Waukegan, on Saturday, September 27 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Wayne Jahn officiating. Interment and graveside service will take place at North Shore Garden of Memories immediately following the funeral services. Charles Romeo
Charles Romeo, 79, of Waukegan, Illinois died Monday, September 22, 2003 at Kindred Hospital in Greenfield, Wisconsin. He was born August 23, 1924 in LaSalle, Illinois and had resided in Waukegan for the past 74 years.
During World War II he served as a First Class Petty Officer in the Navy. He retired from the United States Post Office in 1979.
He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 731 of Waukegan, A.A.R.P., National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Solis of Greenfield, Wisconsin, his grandson, Kyle Solis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia in 1957, two brothers, Sam in 1994 and Peter in 1991, as well as his parents Leonardo Romeo in 1961 and Josephine Romeo in 1939.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Church, 508 Grand Ave., Waukegan. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington Street. If desired masses would be appreciated or memorials to The American Lung Association.
Ralph Joe Cartwright
Ralph Joe Cartwright, age 79, of Booneville, MS, died September 22, 2004 at home in Beach Park, IL. He was born May 1, 1925 in Booneville, MS.
Ralph was married
for 52 years to his wife, Rotha Nell.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1944 to 1946 in Germany. He was a member of the Local 150 Operator Engineer/Labors Union Local 152.
He is survived by his children, Bobby (Brenda) Cartwright of Paddock Lake, WI, Hershel Cartwright of Beach Park, IL, Cline (Carol) Cartwright of Beach Park, IL, Millie (Eldon) Moore of Paddock Lake, WI, David Cartwright of Beach Park, IL, Ricky Cartwright of Lake Villa, IL, Dewayne (Barb) Cartwright of Mundelein, IL, Angela (Russell) Jackola of Winthrop Harbor, IL; two grandchildren which he raised, Christina Cartwright of Janesville, WI, and Cherri Cartwright of Janesville, WI; 38 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Edna Robinson of Antioch, IL; one brother-in-law, Travis Newborn of Waukegan, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell; one son, Joe Cartwright; his parents, Lundy and Ester Naomie Cartwright; two brothers, John Emmerson and Hershel Cartwright; two brother-in-laws, Carlyce Newborn and Lee Robinson; and three grandchildren, Shawn Cartwright, Tammy Cartwright and Clint Cartwright.

Alice M. Germer
Alice M. Germer, age 78, passed away peacefully in Waukegan, Thursday, September 23, 2004. A lifelong resident of Waukegan, she was born May 26, 1926 to the late John and Louise Gugala.
Alice was united in marriage to the late John "Jack" W. Germer on October 18, 1947 at Holy Family Catholic Church in North Chicago. She belonged to Bonnie Brook Senior Golf Association, PNA Insurance, and participated in the Polish American Legion of Veterans with her late husband.
Alice leaves her loving family to cherish her memory. Her loving daughter, Jacqueline (Paul) Sonnenberg; her grandchildren, Rochelle (Shane) Dukas, Byron (Melanie) Sonnenberg and Stephen Sonnenberg; dear great-granddaughter, Alexandria Dukas; fond sister, Helen (Chuck) Hines of Long Beach, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and good friend Millie Terchek.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, John "Jack" W. Germer; her brothers, John, Narcy, and Chester Gugala; and brother-in-law, Jerry Germer.
The memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2004 at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, Richard S. Zaehringer, Director, 1475 N. cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031. (Inside the Main Entrance of Warren cemetery near the intersection of Tri-State Pkwy. and cemetery Rd.) Interment will be held privately for the family.
