Ralph E. Frieden
Ralph E. Frieden, 80, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois died March 28, 2001 in Waukegan, Illinois.
Ralph was born June 21, 1920 in Waukegan as the only child of the late Ralph H. and Florence Frieden. He was an Air Force Veteran of WW II, and was retired from the Lake County Highway Department.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Emer; 3 children, Gary (Jane) Frieden of Downs, Illinois, Pam Niemi of Waukegan and Debbie Kincaid of Beach Park; 4 step-children, Benigno (Gloria) Munji of Winthrop Harbor, Nicanor (Neyma) Munji of Zion, Rafael (Millet) Munji of Gurnee, and Roberto (Mary Lou) Logarda of Kenosha; 18 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will be in Pine View cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, Illinois 60099 would be appreciated in his memory.

Dale G. Hoftiezer
Dale G. Hoftiezer, age 64, of Wadsworth, Illinois passed away March 28, 2001 at Midwestern Regional. He was born September 29, 1936 in Sheboygan, WI. He was a member of the Village Church of Gurnee.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie, two sons Richard (Jane) Hoftiezer and John (Susan) Hoftiezer, two daughters Mary (Scott) Magnuson and Kathleen (Daryn) Sharp, ten grandchildren, and one sister Lavern Lemmenes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abram and Clara Hoftiezer, two brothers Donald and Wallace Hoftiezer and one sister Annette Molter.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Village Church of Gurnee, 1319 N. Hunt Club Rd., Gurnee. Burial will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Sunday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. and Monday from 10-11 A.M. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Village Church of Gurnee would be appreciated.

Arthur M. Isaacson
Arthur M. Isaacson, 69, of Waukegan, died March 27, 2001 after a long illness.
He was born August 27, 1931 in Waukegan. He was a lifelong resident of Waukegan and a member of St. Anastasia Church. Art served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed by OMC - Johnson for 32 years. He received an MBA degree from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Art was an avid outdoorsman and had been a member of Ducks Unlimited and the National Audobon Society. He was an accomplished hunter, fisherman and gardener. He also enjoyed books, poetry and music. He had written articles on the Migration of Northern Illinois Waterfowl and the Preservation of the Illinois Prairie.
His survivors include his wife Josephine (Janocha); children John (Rasa) of Waukegan, Annie (Tom) Lakiotis of Naperville and Jean of Buffalo Grove; his grandchildren, Michael, Kristina and Andrea Lakiotis; his sisters, Dorothy (Joseph) Mitchen, Betty (John) Haarbauer, Jackie (the late Jim) Olesak, Gloria (Ed) Holub and Marcella (the late Tom) Boller; sisters-in-law, Ann and Mary Janocha, Theresa (the late Robert) Belec; brothers-in-law Ted and Tony Janocha, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 30, 2001 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave. in Waukegan. Burial will be in Ascension cemetery. Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Home of Waukegan. 847-336-0127.

Benedetta "Betty" Johnson
Benedetta "Betty" Johnson, 83, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Libertyville.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1918 and has lived in the North Chicago/Waukegan area since 1949.
Mrs. Johnson retired in 1980 from Lake County Press after 26 years and also worked at Abbott Laboratories for 8 years.
Betty was a former member of Mother of God Church and Immaculate Conception Church.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Edwin S. (Linda) Johnson of Warren, IL., Don Wendt of Colona, WI., and Shirley (Roger) Larson of Clairmont, FL., and her 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin B. Johnson, her parents Philip and Josephine Ignoffo, and her sister Marian Ruffalo.
Visitation will be held at SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, Illinois from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2001. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories.

Jeanne A. Mayfield
Jeanne A. Mayfield, 61, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at the Provena St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, Illinois.
She was born February 1, 1941 in Kennan, Wisconsin.
Jeanne was employed for 13 years with Ryder Student Transportation Company, Park City, Illinois.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ronald C. Mayfield; two sons, Scott (Diane) Zimmerman of Round Lake Beach, Illinois and Russell Zimmerman of Murray City, Utah; three grandchildren; a brother, Gary; also several nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Helen Marie Neumann Paddock
Helen Marie Neumann Paddock, 85, a lifelong Lake County Resident, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Beloved wife of the late Robert S. Paddock, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1934 in Wauconda, IL., loving Mother of eight children: Robert, David, James, Richard (Carol), Ray (Mary), William (Patti), Donald (Laurie) and Sharon (George) Stang and daughters in law, Joan, Gay, and LeAnne; dear Sister to Florence Kerrigan, Frances Andrews and Jim Neumann, loving grandmother of 27; great grandmother of 42, and fond aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Helen, great grandson Michael, brothers Ben, Ted, Ray, Fritz and Albert and a sister Ann Peterson.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2001 at STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) with Pastor Mark W. Anderson of the Heritage Lutheran Church, Lindenhurst, IL. officiating. Interment at Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 8 P.M. on Sunday. Elizabeth (Lisa) Sykes
Elizabeth (Lisa) Sykes was born in Carlise, Mississippi on April 23, 1942 toJohnie Myers, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Epps Myers, and Albert and Ree J. Myers adopted her.
Elizabeth confessed a hope in Christ, and was baptized in Topeka, Kansas at the First Baptist Church under the Pasturage of Reverend Walter L. Long.
She graduated from high school in Topeka, Kansas in 1962. Elizabeth attended the University of Kansas, and earned a degree in Nursing. Elizabeth worked and lived around the Sacramento, California area for over 25 years. Elizabeth was an avid food connoisseur, she loved to cook and collect recipes. If you ever spoke with her, she was always discussing how to construct a recipe for some type of dish.
Elizabeth cared for the critically ill for many years in Sacramento until her health failed, and she relocated to this area.
Upon relocating to this area, she worked at the North Pointe Achievement Center in Zion, Illinois.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her adopted mother, Ree J. Myers of Belleville, IL; ten sisters, Martha Jean Walls of Belleville, IL, Maggie (Dennis) Green of Upper Marlboro, MD, Ollie Love, Louise (Leroy) Johnson, Helen (Henry) Walls of North Chicago, IL, Mary (Charlie) Love of Waukegan, IL, Frances Vickers of Memphis, TN, Delores Callahan, Annette (Donald) Miskel of Waukegan, and Marle Taylor of North Chicago; nine brothers, Johnny (Agnita) Myres of Schaumburg, Walter Rucker of Memphis, TN, Freddie (Brenda) Myers of Waukegan, Larry (Renee) Myers of Houston, TX, William Myers of Zion, Calvin Myers of Waukegan, Donald (Carmen) Myers, and Ronald Myers of Waukegan; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. A very special niece and friend, Yolanda (Trecie) Blackmon.
Her mother, Elizabeth Epps Myres; adopted father, Albert Myres; two sisters, Clodine Tigler, Marguerite Myers; four brothers, Jeremiah Powell, A. Myers, Jeffrey and Albert L. Myers, Sr. preceded her in death.
Elizabeth Sykes passed on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital after a brave and lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL with Rev. Clarence Clarke, Pastor, Rev. Henry Woods, Sr., officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL.

Donald G. White
Donald G. White, 78, of Libertyville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born April 26, 1922 in Bradford, Illinois and was a former resident of the Peoria and Amboy areas. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. Don was a former carpenter and retired as a church sexton in Peoria.
Surviving are 2 children, Margo Bath of Libertyville and Don White of Shullsburg, WI.; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly (Tony) Kaufman of Grayslake and Danielle (Sean) McCallister of Camp Lake, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Alice White, by a son Dennis and a sister Dorothy.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sat. March 31, at the Ashton cemetery in Ashton, IL. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville. Info: (847) 362-3009.

David E. Wold
David E. Wold, 65, of Libertyville, Illinois passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Lake Forest Hospital. He was born January 17, 1936 in Chicago and had lived in Libertyville for the past 40 years. He was a 1954 graduate of Grayslake High School and also a US Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, the Libertyville Lions Club and a past President of the Libertyville Men's Golf League. Dave was the former owner of Libertyville Office Equipment and was currently a Hypnotherapist and a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists.
Surviving are his wife Lenore (nee Lindberg) Wold of Libertyville; 2 children, Sharon (Anthony) Price of Grayslake and Steven (Anjanette) Wold of Evanston; 1 grandchild, Samantha Price and 1 sister, Donna Henning of Round Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Bernice Wold.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Avenue, Libertyville. Interment will be at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until time of services on Saturday. Memorial contributions can be made to either the Lions of Illinois Foundation or the Missions Committee of First Presbyterian Church. Jane Craigmiles Farra
Jane Craigmiles Farra, 78, a Winthrop Harbor, Illinois resident for the last 11 years, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Jane was born April 6, 1922 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Charles Creghton Craigmiles and Mary Heisler Craigmiles. She was a gracious lady that brought excitement and pizazz to our marriage. The mother of a son and a daughter, that she reared with love, laughter, care and understanding to be responsible adults who now contribute to our society. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion, Illinois.
Jane is survived by her husband, Howard; a son, Matthew; a daughter Tamma; and grandchildren Benjamin and Katherine Chobot.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the DAEHLER MORTUARY, Portsmouth, Ohio. Interment will be near Portsmouth. A local memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion. The CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion is serving the family.

Carol Joyce Duncan
Carol Joyce Duncan was born on May 13, 1941 in Jackson, MS. She moved to North Chicago, IL as a child, where she graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1960. Carol continued her education in Nursing and was employed in that capacity by the Veterans Administration Medical Center in North Chicago, IL. She was united in marriage to Russell Duncan and remained married for 43 years. Carol departed this life peacefully on March 25, 2001.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Russell Duncan; two sons Clarence McKnight and Darryl Russell Duncan both of North Chicago, IL; three daughters Virginia Rochelle (James) Jones of Gurnee, IL, Carolyn Denise (Johnny) Young of North Chicago, IL, Darlene Joyce (Kenneth) Pickett of Zion, IL and her parents, Virginia and James McKnight of Waukegan, IL.
Services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2001 at Greater Saint James Temple Church of God in Christ, North Chicago, IL. Visitation 11:00 AM to Noon and services Noon to 1:00 PM

Lillian M. Guthrie, age 88, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away Monday, March 26, 2001 at her home. She was born December 30, 1912 in North Chicago, Illinois.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
he is preceded in death by her loving husband Howard A. Guthrie, and brother Theodore Fosberg.
She is survived by a son Larry (Marlene) Guthrie of Libertyville, IL.; a daughter Pat (Alan) Sayerstad of Waukegan, IL.; grandchildren: Michael Sayerstad, Eric (Mary) Sayerstad, Carrie (Jim) Pierce and Thomas Guthrie; great grandchildren Joshua and Andrew Pierce and George, Erin and Jason Sayerstad.

Ruth E. Hamlet
Ruth E. Hamlet, 76, of Waukegan, Illinois died suddenly Monday, March 26, 2001 at Provena St. Therese Medical Center.
She was born September 18, 1924 in Morengo, Wisconsin. She was a long time active parishoner and volunteer at Holy Family East Church, formerly St. Joseph's Church. She served as a Waukegan Election Judge, was a weight recorder for T.O.P.S. for 5 years, a volunteer for the Waukegan Symphony and a volunteer for P.A.D.S.
She is survived by her children: Andrew (Sue) of Gurnee, Betty (Jay) Swank of Wadsworth, Edward of California, Cyndi (Mark (Pleasant of Waukegan, Daniel (Debbie) of Waukegan, 13 grandchildren: Julie, Jennifer, Alan Hamlet, Stephen, Shannon, Alex, Aaron Swank, Nathan Walker, Heather Hamlet, Matthew, Karli, Hannah Hamlet. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Arthur Hamlet in 1999, 4 brothers, Walter, Adolph, Victor and William Kantala and a sister Lillian Johnson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, March 30, 2001 at Holy Family East Church. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Thursday at the SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. Memorials in her memory may be made to Holy Family East Church.

Patrick C. Holmes
Patrick C. Holmes, 50, of Lindenhurst, Illinois passed away March 28, 2001 at Condell Medical Center. He was born February 4, 1951 in Waukegan, IL. He worked for Scott Byron Co. as a Landscaping Artist.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy, 2 sons, Shane and Brett, 2 brothers Frank (Marilyn) Holmes and Tony (Amy) Holmes, and 1 sister Missy (Gerry) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents Rachel and Frank Holmes and his mother-in-law Jean Noll.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 30, 2001 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1840 E. Grand Avenue, Lindenhurst, IL. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 P.M. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the "Lungs for Life". Info: (847) 265-6611.
