Ralph Joe Cartwright
Ralph Joe Cartwright, age 79, of Booneville, MS, died September 22, 2004 at home in Beach Park, IL. He was born May 1, 1925 in Booneville, MS.
Ralph was married for 52 years to his wife, Rotha Nell.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1944 to 1946 in Germany. He was a member of the Local 150 Operator Engineer/Labors Union Local 152.
He is survived by his children, Bobby (Brenda) Cartwright of Paddock Lake, WI, Hershel Cartwright of Beach Park, IL, Cline (Carol) Cartwright of Beach Park, IL, Millie (Eldon) Moore of Paddock Lake, WI, David Cartwright of Beach Park, IL, Ricky Cartwright of Lake Villa, IL, Dewayne (Barb) Cartwright of Mundelein, IL, Angela (Russell) Jackola of Winthrop Harbor, IL; two grandchildren which he raised, Christina Cartwright of Janesville, WI, and Cherri Cartwright of Janesville, WI; 38 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Edna Robinson of Antioch, IL; one brother-in-law, Travis Newborn of Waukegan, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell; one son, Joe Cartwright; his parents, Lundy and Ester Naomie Cartwright; two brothers, John Emmerson and Hershel Cartwright; two brother-in-laws, Carlyce Newborn and Lee Robinson; and three grandchildren, Shawn Cartwright, Tammy Cartwright and Clint Cartwright.
Funeral service will be held at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan, IL at 11 AM on Monday, September 27. Pastor Jim Pagani will officiate. Burial at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Vista Star Hospice.

Carole J. Essenpreis (nee Mathisen)
Carole J. Essenpreis (nee Mathisen), 57, of Murrells Inlet, S.C. passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004 in Murrells Inlet. She was born October 5, 1946 in Oslo, Norway and had been a former resident of Deerfield, IL. Carole was an avid golfer, enjoyed the ocean and boating and was a retired real estate agent in Dublin and Loveland, OH.
Surviving are her husband Robert "Bob" Essempreis; her son Terry (Tina) Essenpreis of Bakersfield, CA and granddaughter Taylor; her father Olav (Anna) Mathisen of Sarasota, FL and brother Edward (Kelly) Mathisen of McHenry, IL.
She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Mathisen.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 25 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Schulz, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Lake Forest officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

William C. Frasemer
William C. Frasemer, of Avon Township (Grayslake), died September 18, 2004. He was born October 20, 1941 in Evergreen Park, IL and had lived in the Lake County area for most of his life.
Mr. Frasemer was an operating Engineer and had retired from Local #150.
Survivors include his dear friends, Bert and Angie Baldocchi of Libertyville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty.
Private Funeral Services will be from McMURROUGH FUNERAL CHAPEL, Libertyville.
It was requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Evelyn E. Hay
Evelyn E. Hay, 84 years old, of Trevor, WI, formerly of Lindenhurst, IL passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at her home. She was born October 26, 1919 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rene (Eggleston) Warfield, moving to Lindenhurst in 1954 and then to Trevor in 1988. Evelyn was the first village clerk of Lindenhurst and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Antioch. She was a home maker and loved camping.
On June 14, 1941, she married Thomas Hay in Chicago and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1995.
Survivors are a son, David (Pat) Hay of Lindenhurst; a daughter, Sandi (David) Crockett of Trevor; a sister, Alice Sandvick; a brother, Richard Warfield; grandchildren, Russell (Shirley) Wolter, Scott Wolter, Kim Hansen, Michael (Esther) Hay, Christopher (Jennifer) Hay, and Gregory (Chres) Hay; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Kate, Tommy, and Brandon.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the United Methodist Church, 884 Main St (Rte 83), Antioch, with the Rev. Gary L. Curl officiating. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 4 until 8pm Friday at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St (Rte 83), and at the church from 10:00am Saturday until the time of services. Those desiring may make contributions, in her memory, to the Visiting Nurse Association of Wisconsin, Lake Geneva Branch, 500 Interchange North, Lake Geneva, WI 53147.

Patricia J. McReynolds
Patricia J. McReynolds, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at her home. She was born October 28, 1933 in Evanston, IL and had been a former resident of Edina, MN, Mequon and Elm Grove, WI and Park Ridge, IL. She was a 1951 graduate of Holy Angels High School in Edina and later Rosary College in Chicago. She was a volunteer for the Jump Start Literacy Program, Lamb's Farm in Libertyville and was a performing arts docent in Milwaukee.
Surviving are seven children, Mary Pat (Tom) Kuchan of Chalfont, PA, John (Mary) McReynolds of Peoria, AZ, Katie (Michael) Kiefer of Glenview, Michael (Paula) McReynolds of Jupiter, FL, Julie McReynolds and Matthew McReynolds, both of Chalfont and Jeanne (Craig) Conte of Libertyville; 10 grandchildren, Meagan, Tim, Molly, Billy, Matthew, Maggie, Kevin, Ryan, David and Kellie; her brother Jack (Margaret) Murray of Eden Prairie, MN and her sister Jayne (Jerry) Carey-Peterson of Edina, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband Horace J. McReynolds in 1984, by her parents, Jay and Patricia Murray and her son Les in 1992.
Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 25 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville and services will continue to St. Joseph Church in Libertyville for funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until time of prayers Saturday morning. Memorial contributions can be made to either the Jump Start Literary Program or Northshore Hospice in her memory.

Charlie S. Moberly
Charlie S. Moberly (Moe) passed away September 20, 2004 at his home. Charlie was born November 23, 1912 in Kentucky.
Charlie was a WWII and Korean Conflict veteran, serving his country three decades and retiring as a Naval officer. Charlie enjoyed his second career and retired as a supervisor for Johnson Motors.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Maurice (Peek) and their daughter, Charlene.
He is survived by his son, Charlie; his half brother, Gene Reynolds; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and close friends who love him and will miss him.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 11-1pm at MARSH FUNERAL HOME in Waukegan, 1521 Washington St. Services will follow visitation at 1 PM at MARSH FUNERAL HOME.

Henry Rosser, Sr.
Henry Rosser, Sr., age 65, of Milwaukee, WI passed away on September 14, 2004 at home.
Henry was born February 11, 1939 unto Henry and Martha Rosser in Sunflower County, MS.
Henry is survived by his wife, Jeanette; six sons, Edward (Gwendolyn) of MN, Henry, Jr., of Waukegan, Frank, Robert and Victor of North Chicago, Tommy (Sherri) of Rockford, IL; three daughters, Gloria of Waukegan, Jacqueline and Shawnette of Gurnee, IL; seventeen grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Albert (Catherine) of Milwaukee, WI; four sisters, Lula Meg of Peoria, IL, Willie Mae of Racine, WI, Martha (Phil) and Ruth (John) of Ohio; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Hedrick.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. at BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Rd, Waukegan, IL. Rev. John Currie, Officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until time of service.

Hazel M. Verdi
Hazel M. Verdi passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 18, 2004. She was born Hazel M. Shelton, October 21, 1920 in Salem, Missouri.
She married Columbus A. Verdi, December 4, 1939. They had three children, Lt. James R. who preceded Hazel in death, August 25, 1971, and was married to Emily White of Portsmouth, NH; Coni A. who is married to Dr. Julian de Bruyn Kops of Idaho Falls, ID; Arthur A. who is married to Mary H. Dornon of Lafayette, IN. Hazel is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She worked for the Waukegan Board of Education for 18 years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from Carthage College in 1970 and taught Special Education at Greenwood School - Waukegan until her retirement in June of 1988. In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Greenwood School - Waukegan, IL 60087 the Hazel Verdi-Special Education Fund.
Funeral services will be held at 7 PM on Friday, September 24 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan. 847-336-0127. Burial will be private. Visitation from 4 to 7 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Paul H. "Koop" Smyth, III
Paul H. "Koop" Smyth, III, age 73, a resident of Third Lake, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Ruth Presbyterian St. Luke in Chicago. Paul was best known as the owner of the Grayslake Car Wash at Rt. 83 and Center St., which became a "general store" style social center. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and lifetime member of the Grayslake American Legion. Paul was a successful businessman, real estate developer, and entrepreneur who created opportunities for local business people. He also created jobs for area teenagers and served as a mentor for several young people who became very successful as adults. Paul will be remembered for his work ethic and as a devoted family man.
He is survived by his loving wife, Edna M. Smyth. He was father to Timothy Paul (Sandi) Smyth, Michael Paul (Pilar) Smyth, Robert Paul (Evelyn) Smyth and Eric Paul (Rosie) Smyth. Paul was a grandfather of six, Melissa, Kurtis, Kyle, Sean-Michael, Sebastian, and Erica Rose. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Anna (Tom) Schroder.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert (Beanie).
The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Reverend Lisle J. Kauffman will be officiating. Interment will be held privately. Friends of the family may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Grayslake Fire Department, 160 Hawley St., Grayslake, IL 60030.

Dorothy Mae Varner
Dorothy Mae Varner, 70, of Pleasant Prairie, died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatusa .
Born September 8, 1949 in Hamilton, IL, she was the daughter of John and Nora (Kropp) Condgon. She was educated in the schools of Hamilton, IL before moving to Winthrop Harbor in 1958 and then to Pleasant Prairie in 1994.
On August 12, 1949, in Hamilton, IL, she married Daniel Varner. Dorothy loved life and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel Varner of Pleasant Prairie and two sons, Danny Varner of Union Grove, WI and Daryl Varner of Pleasant Prairie, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers.
Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Varner will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 from Proko Funeral Home, 1511-60th Street at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 10:00AM until the time of service.
Proko Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Brian C. Vermilyer
Brian C. Vermilyer, 15 years old, of Bristol, WI passed away peacefully Sunday, September 22, 2002 at his home. He was born July 18, 1987 in Elmhurst, IL the son of Michael and Laura (nee Slowik) Vermilyer. Brian was a caring individual who lived life with a smile and knew when to become a comedian to make others laugh. The family lived in Lake Villa, IL before moving to Bristol five years ago. He attended Central High School in Paddock Lake, WI and was a member of the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church, Antioch, IL. He loved skateboarding, iceless hockey, and playing computer games.
Survivors include his parents; one brother, Brad at home; his maternal grandparents, Patricia (James) Bucchianeri of Addison, IL and Edward (Joyce) Slowik of Peoria, AZ; his paternal grandmother, Joyce Vermilyer of Melrose Park, IL; his great-grandmothers, Ann Mullen and Ann Swider and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church, Antioch, IL. Interment will be private in Liberty cemetery Salem Township, WI. Friends may call at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) from 4-8 PM Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday from 1 PM until time of services. In lieu, contributions to the Mulliganeers Giving Kids a Second Chance, PO Box 111, Palatine, IL 60078 appreciated.
