Dolores "Dodie" S. Mitchell, 78, of Salem, WI, died on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WI.
Dolores was born August 9, 1926, in Oak Park, IL. She was raised in Chicago, was a resident of Zion 20 years, and then moved to Salem, WI. Dolores was a graduate of Lake Forest College, and prior to raising her family she was a chemist, and in later years she became a certified nurses aid and worked in home health care. She was a loving mother, an avid gardener, a friend of animals, and an independent spirit.
Survivors include a daughter Ann (Jeffrey Bantz) Mitchell of Chicago, IL and a son, Lewis (Lisa) Mitchell of Lisle, IL., four grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, Louisa, and Gavin Mitchell, four nephews, William and John Andrew Schroeder of Urbana, IL., James Schroeder of California, Steven Schroeder of Massachusetts, and a niece, Joy Schroeder of West Bend, WI..
Dolores was preceded in death by a brother, Millard Schroeder, and her parents, William and Stella Schroeder.
A lakeside memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 11:30 a.m., in Salem, WI, (meet at the Salem United Methodist Church, 25130 85th St, Salem, WI 53168 at 11:15) with Rev. J. Michael Solberg officiating. Anna M. Richards
Anna M. Peterson Richards, 95, of Zion, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at home.
She was born December 28, 1908, in Akron, Iowa and came to Zion about 1910. On August 31, 1928, she married
John D. Richards and together they were blessed with 62 years of married
life until John's home going in May, 1995. She was a long time member of Christ Community Church, serving with the Dorcas, Communion preparation and cooking at Camp Zion.
She is survived by eight children, LeRoy (Loretta) Richards of Marietta, GA., Kenneth (Romelle) Richards of Lindale, TX., Norman (Judi) Richards of Zion, Lucy (William) Burris of Arlington, TX., Laurel (Dick) Beem of Zion, Kathy (Con) Lasaitis of Waukegan, Lewis (Cheryl) Richards of Ham Lake, MN., and Stephen (Judy) Richards of Beach Park; 35 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucy (the late Floyd) Messick of Winter Haven, FL; two brothers, Clifford (Evelyn) Peterson of Zion and Robert (Josephine) Peterson of Sun City, AZ; and one sister-in-law, Laurel Peterson of Zion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and infant daughter; her father and mother, Bert and Lottie Peterson; and one brother, Daniel Peterson.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, with Rev. Earl L. Minton, Pastor Ken Langley and Pastor Doug Carlson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of services at the Church.
Anna has four grandchildren serving on the Mission Field, and it is her desire that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to one of their Mission Headquarters: ZEMA, Carlene and Greg Seghers; SEND International, Brian and Elizabeth Richards and Joy Richards; and MAF, Stephen and Jodi Richards. Mae Schneider
Mae Schneider, 87, of Waukegan, IL, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Terrace Nursing Home. She was born in Chicago, IL to John and Mary (Asma) Schneider on May 17, 1917. Mae was raised and educated in Waukegan, graduating from Waukegan Township High School, a member of the Class of 1937.
She retired in 1979 from Abbott Laboratories after 42 years of service. Mae enjoyed golf and bowling and continued to watch them on television when her health no longer permitted those activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Matthew, John, Andrew, and Lawrence.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph; sister-in-law, Joyce; and eight nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 11 AM at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. Burial at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Mary C. Stephens (nee Clow)
Age 95. A seven year resident of Bolingbrook, IL, a longtime Plainfield resident, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL. She was born December 6, 1908 in the historic Clow Limestone House on Book Road and 111th Street in Wheatland Township, IL (now Naperville, IL), built by her grandfather, Thomas Clow, in 1868. The Clow family was among the earliest settlers of Wheatland Township.
She is survived by three nieces, Georgia (Melvin) Makela of Tucson, AZ, Joan (the late Ronald) Schroeder of Antioch, IL and Marjory (John) Fluegel of Jerome, ID; five great-nephews, Brian Fluegel, Scott (Teresa) Fluegel, William and Robert Makela and Thomas Schroeder; one great-niece, Susan Schroeder; and twin great-great-nieces, Serena and Savannah.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Stephens in 1960, whom she married
on August 19, 1951; her parents, Thomas and Grace (nee Sennitt) Clow; a brother, Edward Clow; and a sister, Margaret (the late Harrison "Hal") Stephens.
Mary grew up in Wheatland Township and was a 1926 graduate of Naperville Community High School, Naperville, IL and a 1930 graduate of Aurora Hospital School of Nursing, Aurora, IL, as a Registered Nurse. Mary and her brother, Edward, purchased a farm on Lily Cache Road in Plainfield, during the early 1930's and farmed together for many years. The land is still farmed today and owned by Mary, who left the farm in February, 1997 to reside at Meadowbrook Manor of Bolingbrook.
Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church of DuPage, Bolingbrook, for many years. She had been the oldest living member, her baptism taking place January, 1923. She enjoyed dogs and loved nothing more then having a loving canine on her lap.
Visitation Saturday, September 18, 10:00-11:00 AM at The First Presbyterian Church of DuPage, 180 N. Weber Rd., Bolingbrook, IL. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the church, with Rev. Jan Kennedy, officiating. Interment: Wheatland Township cemetery, Naperville, IL.

Mabel E. Anderson (nee Swanson)
Mabel Elizabeth Anderson (nee Swanson), 94, a 79 year resident of Waukegan passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at the Scottish Nursing Home in North Riverside, Illinois, where she lived since 2001. She was born April 21, 1910, the daughter of the late John and Hilma (nee Johnson) Swanson. She was a life member of Trinity United Lutheran Church, where she taught both Sunday School and Bible School, sang in the choir, and participated in the Ladies' Auxiliary. She was employed by Durkin's Clothing Store, Abbott Laboratories and the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. She was a member of AARP, and a life member of Svea Lodge #5 of the Ladies of Vikings. From 1989-2001, she resided at Covenant Village in Northbrook, Illinois, where she was active in the Ceramics Club and the annual Holly Fair, raising thousands of dollars for charities and scholarships.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Linda) of Palm Desert, CA and Glen (Marilynn) of Northbrook, IL; two daughters, Doris (Don) Burt of Glen Ellyn, IL and Kay (Jerry) Larson of Cincinnati, OH; eight grandchildren, Stephen Burt, Susan Burt (John) Mooney, Shelly Burt (Mark) Grossman, David (Mary Beth) Burt, Julie Anderson (Walter) Sommers, Brian Anderson, Kerstin Larson and Signe Larson; seven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Raymond) Swanson of Waukegan, IL and Jane (Earl) Swanson of Ft. Myers, FL; and a step sister, Ingrid Steusser of Milwaukee, WI. Mabel is further survived by nieces and nephews, Carol Boslooper, Joanne (Charles) Wallis, Harold (Carol) Swanson, Barbara (Ed) Kastner and Faye (Sammie) Carter. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; and numerous relatives in Sweden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Axel Erik Anderson; a sister, Katherine Carlson (nee Swanson); and three brothers, Raymond, Milburn and Earl Swanson.
Memorial service will be at 11 AM Monday, September 20, 2004 at Trinity United Lutheran Church, 658 Grand Ave, Waukegan. Private interment will preceded the Memorial Service at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Richard L. Bickel
Richard L. Bickel, 73, a lifelong Waukegan resident, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at home.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 60 years, serving it many ways. He was most proud of his 22 years on the Church council, with 21 of those years as Recording Secretary. He also faithfully served his country in the Army for 4 years, including 1 1/2 years in Japan and 1 year in Korea at the beginning of the war and for which he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of Gurnee Post No. 771 of the American Legion. He retired from Johnson Motors in 1982. He was also a member of the W.T.H.S. Lunch Bunch, Class of 1947.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Noreen; and one daughter, Linda Kuntz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Bickel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 824 N. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan, with Pastors Mark Halaas and Janet Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Clare V. Carr
Clare V. Carr, 72, of Libertyville, IL passed away Friday, September 13, 2002 at the Lake Forest Hospital.
He was born October 5, 1929 in Ponca City, OK and was a former resident of Kansas City, MO and Scottsdale, AZ. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea and was a former police officer. Clare was the former Director of Stadium Operations for the Kansas City Royals Baseball team and retired as the Director of Security for the Brunswick Corporation.
Surviving are his wife, Janet (nee Western) Carr of Libertyville; three children, Vince (Wanda) Carr of St. Paul, MN, David (Debra Auer) Carr of Chicago and Heather Jo Carr (Ray Hill and his children, Brandon and Bryan) all of Chicago; and his mother-in-law, Gertrude Western of Libertyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.V. and Mary Carr; and by his first wife, Delores Carr in 1993.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 PM Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 29700 N. St. Marys Road, Libertyville. A family interment service will be held at Vernon cemetery in Half Day early Tuesday afternoon. Visitation will be held at the church, one hour prior to services.

Donald G. Collins, Sr.
Donald G. Collins, Sr., 74, of Beach Park died on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin .
Donald was born February 2, 1928 in Otisco, Indiana and grew up in Indiana and West Virginia before moving to Waukegan upon being discharged from the Marine Corps in 1950. He was employed at Gillette in North Chicago and he was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park. He was also a former member and officer in the Waukegan Elks, serving locally and at the State level and primarily involved in Veterans activities for the Elks. He also belonged to Lake County A.A.R.P. and Vista Health Senior Spirit Program.
From an early age, Don loved trains, especially steam trains, influenced by the fact that his father was a Section Foreman for the B & O Railroad and that the family home was across from the Railroad tower. As a boy, he was allowed to signal the passing trains - he was proficient at it. Train trips between Indiana and West Virginia were often and common.
As an adult, his love of trains was reinforced by frequent visits to railway museums locally and around the U.S. and train rides. His son shared his love of trains and presented him with many train gifts which resulted in quite a collection. His son will always remember one cross country trip with his father. Other train trips included crossing Canada, the Mexican "Grand Canyon" and famous steam trains in the U.S.
His daughter Denise will always remember his sense of humor, generosity of spirit and his outreach to others. His spirit touched so many in life and in the final days leading to his death. He always gave to others without expecting a reward. He blessed family and friends and will always be remembered as a gentle person.
His joy of writing poetry is shared by Denise, a tradition she will continue. He loved the outdoors and loved to travel by camper, car and trains.
Survivors include wife, Norma; one son, Donald G. Collins, Jr. of Beach Park; one daughter, Denise Collins of Ft. Myers, Florida; three sisters, Grace Warren of Evansville, Indiana, Betty (Maurice) Austin of Warrenville, Oregon and Juanita (Robert) Smith of Oceanside, California; one brother, Eugene (Myrtle) Collins of Jeffersonville, Indiana; two brothers-in-law, Al (Margaret) Jellings of Round Lake Beach and Ken (Beth) Jellings of Rockford, Illinois; sister-in-law Arlene Bostian of Conroe, Texas; and numerous other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00PM at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.

Ruth M. Coulson
Ruth M. Coulson, 94, of Waukegan, died Thursday, September 12th. After graduating from Waukegan High School, Ruth worked as a librarian at the Carnegie Library in Waukegan for almost 40 years. She helped oversee the Library's move to its new building in the 1960s. Her brother Robert Coulson was Mayor of Waukegan from 1949 to 1956 and then a longtime State Legislator, and Ruth was active in his political campaigns. She was also a world-class philatelist, who by the 1950s had amassed a leading collection of stamps from Laos, Cambodia, and Viet Nam. She was a past Chapter Regent of the Little Fort Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, and was active in the Waukegan Elks Club and with the St. Margaret's Guild at Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Rose Coulson of Waukegan; nephews and nieces William and Elizabeth Coulson of Glenview; John and Linda Coulson of Diamond Bar, California; and Barbara and Steven Kurtin of Sherman Oaks, California; great-nephews Bobby and Tommy Coulson of Diamond Bar; and great-nieces Dana Kurtin of Brooklyn, New York and Sarah Kurtin of Los Angeles.
Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at PETERSON AND PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, with services at 1:30. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 410 W. Grand, Waukegan 60085; or to the Waukegan Public Library, 128 North County Street, Waukegan 60085.
Isabel J. Coursey
Isabel J. Coursey, 78, of Libertyville, IL passed away Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the Winchester House in Libertyville.
She was born June 1, 1924 in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of the late Othel and Florence Swisher. She was a former resident of Kokomo, and Minneapolis, MN, and since her late husband was career military, lived in many different place. They retired to Port Richey, FL in 1979 and Mrs. Coursey has lived in Libertyville since 1997.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela (Ralph) Bartels of Libertyville; four grandchildren, Rachael (John) Sidman and Alys (Jim) Stuersel, both of Bolingbrook, Sandra (Dave) Volling of Mesa, AZ and Noreen Bartels of Libertyville; eight great grandchildren, Destiny, Lindsay, Daniel, Madelyn, Alivia, Ryan,Steven and Jacob; her sister, Joan LaPier of Omaha, NE; two brothers, James (Mary) Swisher of Minneapolis, MN and Jack (Betty) Swisher of Tustin, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Coursey in 1984; and by her sister, Miriam Shoquette.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 PM Tuesday, September 17 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville with visitation for one hour prior to Services. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
