Thomas Gillespie
Thomas Gillespie, 50, of Waukegan passed away Friday, September 13, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 5, 1951 in Waukegan, IL. Thomas enjoyed NASCAR Racing and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; two children, Colleen, James; his parents, Hurlbert and Marceline Gillespie; three brothers and sisters, Robert (Becky), Nancy (Dudley) Dye and Connie (Jerry) Jackovich; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Gillespie and Lori-Anne Gillespie; and his grandparents, Herb and Elizabeth Gillespie and Laurene and Del Crichton.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, September 17, 2002 in St. Dismas Church with Father Ryan officiating. Interment Ascension cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 PM Monday, September 16, 2002 in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, and also from 8:30 to 9:30 AM Tuesday, September 17, 2002 in the funeral home.
Shirley Hobbs Martin
Shirley Hobbs Martin, 69, of Lake Bluff, died peacefully at home September 13, 2002. She was born March 28, 1933 in Washington, D.C. and lived in Maryland until 1969 when she moved to Lake Bluff. Shirley was an avid golfer and long time member of Lake Bluff Golf Club and the Ladies Golf League. She was a former member of the Lake Bluff Women's Club.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Donald; four children, Sharon (Mike) Hatch of Waukegan, Donna of DeKalb, Donald "Skip", Jr. (Laura) of Lake Bluff and Daniel (Denise) of Lake Forest; seven grandchildren, Sean, Amy, Joseph, Courtney, Jessica, Alexis and Quinn; and mother Mary A. Hobbs of Sandy Spring, MD. She is also survived by a sister, Charlotte (Isaac) Kirk; brothers Donald R. (Ruth Ellen) Hobbs, Jr., Thomas Hobbs, David (Cathy) Hobbs and Steven (Joan) Hobbs all of Maryland and by many other family members. Her father, Donald R. Hobbs, Sr. preceded her in death.

Olive E. Ostrander
Olive E. Ostrander, 80, of Waukegan, stepped into the arms of the Lord on September 12, 2002 at Midwest Regional Medical Center. She was born October 21, 1921 in Zion but resided in Waukegan for most of her 80 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, ceramics and bowling.
She was married
on June 12, 1948 to Richmond Ostrander and is survived by him and their children, Rick (Donna) Ostrander of Covena, CA, Lynn Jakubowicz of Zion, Dale (Darce) Ostrander of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Bruce Ostrander of Waukegan and Scott Ostrander of Waukegan; 8 grandchildren, Eliah, Chris, Melissa, Michele, Shawna, Tarah, Haley and Lauren; 1 great grandson Micah; 1 sister Gerry (Paul) Thomas of Zion; and 2 brothers, Dr. Walter (Bonnie) Hendricks of Gurnee and Silas (Clarice) Hendricks of Zion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Si and Ruth Hendricks.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St., with Rev. Dr. Gehl DeVore officiating. Burial will be at North Shore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Tammy Lynn (Phelps) Rivera
Tammy Lynn (Phelps) Rivera, 44, of Park City, IL passed away suddenly September 14, 2002 at St. Therese Hospital.
Tammy was born May 14, 1958 in Waukegan, IL.
She attended Waukegan Schools. She received her Professional Master Supervisor Certificate from Northern Illinois Business Association in 1995. She received her Associate Degree from Concordia University in Wisconsin. She was employed by Cherry Electric for 25 years. She also worked at Kohls in Gurnee. She was an avid Bears Fan and loved her two grandchildren and her two boys.
She is survived by her sons, Eusebio, Jr. (Brittany) and Michael (Dina); two grandsons, Eusebio (Joey) and Evan Michael. Also survived by sisters, Sandi (Dennis) Crawford, Barbara (Manuel) Serreno, Karen (Benji) Conas, Joan Cantrell, Betty (Terry) Terran, Joyce (Joe) Juliano; brother James (Becky) Phelps; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws and special friends, Elvia Lopez and Meaney Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Eusebio; her parents, James and Lorraine Phelps.
Friends may call at the Marsh Funeral Home of Waukegan, 1521 Washington St. from 5-8PM Wednesday. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 19, 2002, time pending. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.

Bernard J. "Bernie" Vitek
Bernard J. "Bernie" Vitek, 83, of Lindenhurst, passed away Friday, September 13, 2002 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center. He was born August 14, 1919 in Chicago and was a resident of the Lindenhurst area for the past 46 years. He was a member of the Lindenhurst Zoning Board of Appeals and Chairman of said board from 1959-1984, member of Lake Villa Township Board of Auditors, Lake Villa Township Development Council, Lake Villa Township Assessor and Grant Township Deputy Assessor. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army in the Coast Artillery. He was a meat cutter by trade for 60 years. His hobby was traveling and he visited every state in the Continental U.S. by car.
Survivors include his wife Jean; 2 sons, Richard John (Cynthia) of Newark, Delaware and William Bernard Vitek of Algoa, Texas; and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 East Grand Ave., with Rev. Elizabeth Tsang officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m Monday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his name to STAR Hospice Unit, c/o Vista St. Therese Medical Center.
Richard J. Fricker
Funeral service for Richard J. Fricker, 75, of Wauconda, IL, formerly of Mundelein is 8 p.m. Wednesday at the KRISTAN FUNERAL HOME P.C., 219 W. Maple Ave. (2 blocks west of Route 45 on Rt. 176) Mundelein. He was born September 9, 1928 in Sharon, PA, and died Sunday, September 14, 2003 at home.
Dick was former president of Mundelein Little League, Scoutmaster of Cub Scout Pack 196 and Mundelein Boy Scouts. He was an avid golfer and volunteered at Countryside Golf Course in Mundelein.
He is survived by his children, James (Kathy) Fricker, Jeffery Fricker, Julie (Steven) Fast, Janet (Kevin) Paddock, Joan (Joe) Minervino, seven grandchildren and his sister Betty Phythyon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association.
Everardo Gallegos
Everardo Gallegos, 61, of Zion passed away September 13, 2003 at home. He was born February 13, 1942 in La Luz, Michoacan, Mexico. He was a member of Holy Family Church. He worked in maintenance for WMS Gaming in Waukegan.
He is survived by his wife, Evangelina, son Luis A. and Lola Gallegos, daughter Lidia and Javier Fajardo, son Everardo Jr. and Leila Ruth Gallegos, son Juan C. and Isabel Gallegos, daughter Evy Gallegos, 11 grandsons and six granddaughters.
Service at Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave., Waukegan, IL. Visitation on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Visitation also 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the church. Jean A. Kick
Jean A. Kick, 83, a longtime resident of Lake County who lived in Druce Lake for 35 years, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Wauconda Healthcare Center. She was born February 11, 1920 in Oak Park, lived in Glen Ellyn and graduated from Glenbard in 1938.
She was a waitress at her parents' International Cafe Restaurant in Libertyville, where she met her future husband Fred. Jean was a skillful homemaker who combined careful raising of four children and talents in sewing and flower gardening. She encouraged music and reading in their home, and was a long-time member of Millburn Congregational Church and the Avon Unit of the Homemakers Assn.
Jean leaves her four children, Don (Karen) Kick of Crystal Lake, Holly (Dave) Scott of McHenry, Alan Kick of Mundelein and Wendy (Dave) Curtis of Wauconda; six grandchildren, Greg (Francine) Scott of Stacy, MN, Aaron (Melanie) Scott of Macomb, Daniel and Sean Kick of Crystal Lake, Charlene and Jeffrey Curtis of Wauconda and five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Gabriel, Megan, Kieran and Grant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lillian Andersen and her husband of 44 years and a chemist at Abbott Labs, Frederic E. Kick on April 9, 1986.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 17 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville with the Rev. Michelle Prentice-Leslie officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of services on Wednesday.
Howard Henry McBride
Brother Howard Henry McBride was born December 25, 1947 in Vicksburg, MS to Mary Magdelene and Nora Williams. Howard made his transition on Wednesday, September 10, 2003.
Howard was a student at the College of Lake County where he was studying to become a substance abuse counselor. Howard was a chemical dependency technician for The Gateway Foundation, where he hoped to be promoted upon completion of his degree.
Howard confessed his faith at Jesus Name Apostolic Church under the leadership of the Reverend John I. Caples Jr., where he became a born again Christian and a new man of God, leaving behind the past.
Howard leaves behind to cherish his home-going, a sister Deborah A. McBride-Bartley, two nephews Emmanuel (Requena) McBride, and Jaaleen (Jay) McBride, two nieces Sabrina (Ambrose) McBride-King and Carolyn (John) Love-Rivers, five uncles and three aunts and a host of cousins, great-nephews, nieces, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Magdelene McBride.
Viola M. Schrank (nee Robbins)
Viola M. Schrank (nee Robbins), age 93, of Waukegan died Monday, September 15, 2003 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center after a recent illness. She was born May 20, 1910 in Virginia, MN and in 1925 moved to Waukegan where she met and then married
the late (1990) Joseph Schrank on September 11, 1937. She worked at Abbott Labs of North Chicago and was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Waukegan. In numerous bridge groups, Junior Womens League and was an avid reader. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making things for her family.
Survivors include sons Mike (Joan) Schrank of Waukegan and John Schrank of Gurnee. Daughter in law Kathy Schrank of Wadsworth, grandchildren Katie Schrank, Meg (Randall) Salvino, Joseph and David Schrank, Elizabeth (Allan) Short, Christopher (Stacey) Schrank, Robert (Joy) Schrank, Timothy (Sandra) Schrank and Sgt. Edward (Yoshie) Schrank Jr., Bill and Alan Schrank. Great-grandchildren Christopher Schrank, Mandy and Andrew Salvino and Gavin Short. Sister Bernice Svendahl of St. Paul, MN.

Timothy Shields
Timothy Shields, 42, of Basset, WI, passed away Monday, September 8, 2003 at his home. He was born October 22, 1960 in Waukegan, and worked in construction and demolition.
Survivors include his daughter Crystal; brothers and sisters Carl, Debra (Mark "Ronnie") Fairbanks, Linda Poddock, Patricia Romero and James; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Dorothy, and a brother Leo, Jr.

Roberta Jane Tate
Roberta Jane Tate, 77, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center. She was born December 17, 1925 in Virden, IL to John and Alice Wrench. She graduated Deland High School and moved to Peoria, IL where she met Virgil L. Tate. They married
in Monticello, IL on February 3, 1946 then moved to Waukegan in 1952. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper. She loved ceramics, crafts, camping, traveling, being with friends and country music. She was a devoted wife to her husband Virgil. They were like two peas in a pod.
Roberta is survived by her husband Virgil; two sons, Gary (Debbie) Tate of Wildwood, IL and Michael (Lois) Tate of Missoula, MT; six grandchildren, Lisa Tate of Kihei, Hawaii, Marcella Tate of Missoula, MT, Heather Peterson of Minnesota, Shawn Tate of California, Kim Benedict of Waukegan, and Scott Tate of Antioch; ten great grandchildren; and her brother John Wrench of Deland, IL. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Gary and Michael wish to express their appreciation to Dad, her hero, who cared for Mom 24/7 showing his love and devotion to her... Thanks Dad.
