Ernest G. Black
Ernest G. Black, the beloved son of Tom and Alice Black was born April 22, 1911 in Como, MS, one of nine children. He passed away on September 8, 2004 at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in North Chicago, IL.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and joined the Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como, MS. He came to Waukegan, IL as a young man and joined the Trinity AME Church. He was an usher for many years and also served as a Trustee. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Alice (Roger) Hawkins of Batesville, MS; two sisters, Olivette Ellis of Sardis, MS and Marsha Orr of Como, MS; two nephews, Hartridge (Mary) Black of Sardis, MS and Walter (Mary) Taylor of Memphis, TN; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a special friend, Betty Shellie; a godson, Victor Lang of Steger, IL; a goddaughter, Eugenia Lindsey of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters and two spouses, Earnestine Black and Atlean Black.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 17, 2004 at the Trinity AME Church, 210 South Avenue, Waukegan, IL with Pastor Reginald Blount officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 AM Friday at the church. Arrangements by BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL, 847-662-3553.

George F. Greslik
George F. Greslik, 86 years old of Bristol, WI was called to his Heavenly Father's House on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, with his family by his side. He was born October 11, 1917 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Frank and Martha (Derda) Greslik making his home in the Bristol and Antioch, IL area, since 1947.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater as a Corporal and was awarded the Purple Heart. George was an active member, usher, lector, and volunteer for St. Scholastica Parish in Bristol. He was also a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus.
After 28 years of service, he retired in the early 1970's as a cutter/grinder at Johnson Motors in Waukegan, IL. On January 25, 1941, he married
Marie H. Engel in Chicago.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marie; two daughters, Rita Causey of Ingleside, IL, Rebecca (Richard) Lane of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one son, Greg Greslik of Salem, WI; four grandchildren, Kim, Kelly (Miguel), Kerry (Amy) and Bob (Diane); and four great-grandchildren, Julian, Willow, Austin and Miguel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald on June 5, 1998; two brothers, Joseph and Herbert; and two sisters, Hildagarde and Marie.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 17, 2004 at St. Scholastica Church, Bristol, WI. Interment will be in Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial cemetery, Union Grove, WI. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM, until 8:00 PM, Thursday at STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) Antioch. Irene V. Hertz
Irene V. Hertz, age 94, life long resident of Fox Lake, passed away on September 14, 2004 in McHenry, IL.
She was born on January 30, 1910 in Fond du Lac, WI. She and her late husband Carlo, were the original owners of the IGA store. Irene's hobbies included bowling, cooking, and collecting indoor and outdoor figurines.
Irene was the loving mother of Carl (Kathy), she was the cherished grandmother of Christopher and Lindsay Hertz, Heidi (David) Graham, and Erin Bogner, and was the dearest friend to Al Calderon.

Juanita Iola Howe
Juanita Iola Howe, passed away at the age of 95 years old, on Sunday, September 12, 2004, at Victory Memorial Hospital. Juanita was born in Fewsburg, NY, in 1909 the oldest of nine children of Rev. Hugh and Flora Atkins. Juanita was the wife of Rev. Gilbert L. Howe (deceased), former residents of Kenosha, WI. She lived in Kenosha and continued to be active in the ministry of her husband, then GIs for Christ. In the late seventies, she moved to North Chicago where she remained active in the continuing ministry of her late husband until she moved into the Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan, IL.
A talented musician, she sang and played piano and vibraphone around the country and on radio during her husband's broadcasts during WWII and was a regular pianist at North Shore Baptist Church, North Chicago, IL. Juanita was known for her Bible knowledge and teaching and was an accomplished writer. Before her loss of sight during the last few years of her life, she managed to write a significant book of her husband's life.
She is survived by two brothers, Mr. Charles Atkins of Russell, PA, and Mr. Russell Atkins of Lebanon, PA; and her four children, Dr. G. LeRoy Howe of Corpus Christi, TX, Mrs. Carol Whiteside (wife of Rev. Douglas E. Whiteside) of Vineland, NJ, Rev. Joseph P. Howe of North Chicago, IL, and Mrs. Joy Baxter (wife of Rev. William Baxter) of Vallejo, CA, and their families.

Bernice Kaufman
Bernice Kaufman, a long time Grayslake resident, passed away Monday, September 13, 2004 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, at the age of 89.
Bernice was a member of St. Gilbert Church in Grayslake for over 55 years, and an avid thrift store and garage sale patron.
She is survived by her son Larry (Jeanne) Kaufman of Winthrop Harbor, sister Valerie Trust of Michigan, niece Michelle (Bob) Ross of Michigan, great niece Jennifer Bell of Waukegan, and her wonderful neighbors Bob & Edna Bobene, and Bob & Mary Higgins.
Her husband Ralph Kaufman, brothers Lawrence, Frank, and Williard Trust precede her in death.
Friends of the family may visit on Friday, September 17, 2004 from 10 to 11 a.m. at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATORIUM, 410 E. BELVIDERE RD., GRAYSLAKE, IL 60030. Yolanda V. Kawalski-Jones
Yolanda V. Kawalski-Jones, 84, of Peoria, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away on September 11, 2004 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. She was born September 18, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Beregmege) Kaszas. She married
Chester J. Kawalski on September 26, 1942 in Chicago, IL and then Walter Jones on March 5, 1977 in Chicago, IL.
Surviving are her husband, Walter Jones of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Christine (Bill) Mangold of Washington, IL and Yolanda (Jim) Gnatek of Bolingbrook, IL; two step-daughters, Maria (Ken) Binder of San Antonio, TX and Cynthia Jones of San Leandro, CA; a brother, Joe (Ruth) Kaszas of Wheaton, IL; a sister, Irene Studer of Morton, IL; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by both parents and her first husband.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Antioch, IL and of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Chicago, IL.
Services will be held at 2 pm Friday, September 17, 2004 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria, IL. The Rev. Paul Park will officiate.

Dolores "Dodie" S. Mitchell
Dolores "Dodie" S. Mitchell, 78, of Salem, WI, died on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WI.
Dolores was born August 9, 1926, in Oak Park, IL. She was raised in Chicago, was a resident of Zion for more than 20 years, and then moved to Salem, WI. Dolores was a graduate of Lake Forest College, and prior to raising her family she was a chemist, and in later years she became a certified nurses aid and worked in home health care. She was a loving mother, an avid gardener, a friend of animals, and an independent spirit.
Survivors include a daughter Ann (Jeffrey Bantz) Mitchell of Chicago, IL and a son, Lewis (Lisa) Mitchell of Lisle, IL., four grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, Louisa, and Gavin Mitchell, four nephews, William and John Andrew Schroeder of Champaign-Urbana, IL., James Schroeder of Fremont, California, Steven Schroeder of Georgetown, Massachusetts, a niece, Joy Schroeder of West Bend, WI., and her faithful feline friend, Dusty II. Dolores was preceded in death by a brother, Millard Schroeder, and her parents, William and Stella Schroeder.
A lakeside memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 11:30 a.m., in Salem, WI, (meet at the Salem United Methodist Church, 25130 85th St, Salem, WI 53168 at 11:15) with Rev. J. Alice M. Erickson, 91, of Zion, died on Friday, September 12, 2003 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion. Alice was born August 17, 1912 in Beach Park and she was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion.
Survivors include one sister Ruth Hotham of Beach Park; two God-daughters Erica (Nick) Nicketakis of Gurnee and Ceil (Paul) Turner of Winthrop Harbor; four sisters-in-law Esther Sanders, Marge Erickson, Kay Walker and Katherine Klammer; one brother-in-law Rev. Stephen Erickson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John A. Erickson in 1994, her father and mother Rasmus and Christiana Poulsen, five brothers Rasmus, Fred, Rudolph, John and Alex Poulsen and three sisters Gene Horton-Hansen, Grace Ray and Esther Peters.
A memorial service was held on Monday, September 15, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor Paul Gerardy of Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Memorial United Methodist Church in her memory have been suggested.
Everardo Gallegos
Everardo Gallegos, 61, of Zion passed away September 13, 2003 at home. He was born February 13, 1942 in La Luz, Michoacan, Mexico. He was a member of Holy Family Church. He worked in maintenance for WMS Gaming in Waukegan.
He is survived by his wife, Evangelina, son Luis A. and Lola Gallegos, daughter Lidia and Javier Fajardo, son Everardo Jr. and Leila Ruth Gallegos, son Juan C. and Isabel Gallegos, daughter Evy Gallegos, 11 grandsons and six granddaughters.

Jean A. Kick
Jean A. Kick, 83, a longtime resident of Lake County who lived in Druce Lake for 35 years, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Wauconda Healthcare Center. She was born February 11, 1920 in Oak Park, lived in Glen Ellyn and graduated from Glenbard in 1938.
She was a waitress at her parents' International Cafe Restaurant in Libertyville, where she met her future husband Fred. Jean was a skillful homemaker who combined careful raising of four children and talents in sewing and flower gardening. She encouraged music and reading in their home, and was a long-time member of Millburn Congregational Church and the Avon Unit of the Homemakers Assn.
Jean leaves her four children, Don (Karen) Kick of Crystal Lake, Holly (Dave) Scott of McHenry, Alan Kick of Mundelein and Wendy (Dave) Curtis of Wauconda; six grandchildren, Greg (Francine) Scott of Stacy, MN, Aaron (Melanie) Scott of Macomb, Daniel and Sean Kick of Crystal Lake, Charlene and Jeffrey Curtis of Wauconda and five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Gabriel, Megan, Kieran and Grant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lillian Andersen and her husband of 44 years and a chemist at Abbott Labs, Frederic E. Kick on April 9, 1986.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 17 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville with the Rev. Michelle Prentice-Leslie officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of services on Wednesday.
