Monte R. Ford
Monte R. Ford, 93, long time resident of Zion passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan.
Monte was born November 14, 1908 in Denver, Colorado and moved to Zion in 1921 from his boyhood home of Oakdale, Nebraska. He was employed at the Zion Candy Factory as a young man and later at Johns-Manville in Waukegan for 26 years and he served part-time on both the Zion Police and Zion Fire Departments. On January 15, 1927 he married
Ethel Florence Smith. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. Monte had many many wonderful friends. He loved life, people and animals. He lived modestly and enjoyed the "Small" pleasures in life. His hobbies included porch sitting and feeding the squirrels.
He is survived by his son James D. Ford of Princeton, Wisconsin; his daughter Patty Ford of Zion; five grandchildren Jason Bohringer of Johnsburg, Illinois, Gidget Johnson of Zion, Nick Ford of Kenosha, Judy Carl of Gurnee and Lesli Ford of Waukegan; nine great-grandchildren Jennifer, Justin, Heather, Michael, Kysa, Katelyn, Codey, Corey and Alexandra; 1 great great granddaughter Alexis; and his constant loving companions Bailey and Bella "Dumplin". He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel and one granddaughter Tracy Jensen.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Chaplain Elizabeth Tsang of S.T.A.R. Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations to S.T.A.R. Mr. Harvey L. Harris, Jr.
Mr. Harvey L. Harris, Jr. passed away September 8, 2002 at his home in North Chicago.
Mr. Harris, loving son of the late Harvey Harris, Sr. and the late Thelma Harris was born in Cameron, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tillson College in Austin, Texas, and served our country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force.
He lived and worked in North Chicago for over 50 years. In 1990, he retired from the position of Chief Reutilization and Marketing Officer at Great Lakes, after 39 years of honorable Federal service.
Harvey was a member and former Trustee of Trinity AME Church in Waukegan. He also belonged to the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Preceding Harvey in death were his wife of 48 years, Lottie Mitchell Harris, his aforementioned parents, and his brother, Don Harris.
His only child, Michael "Mike" Harris, daughter-in-law Georgann "Gigi" Harris, and two grandsons, Michael, Jr. and Matthews of Plainfield, New Jersey survive Harvey. He is also survived by his two sisters, Billie Washington of Waukegan and her daughter, Renee Washington, and Ila Brown of Waukegan and her sons, Robert and Walter; a brother, Joe Harris of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Harris of North Chicago and her four daughters; and Mary Southard of Alabama; one brother-in-law, Richard Mitchell of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at the BRADSHAW AND RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, at 11:00 AM Monday, September 16, 2002, with Rev. Charlene Mills (Harvey's Goddaughter) officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial follows at North Shore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be directed to STAR Hospice, 2615 Washington St., Waukegan, IL 60085.
Frank J. Kowalski
Frank J. Kowalski, 81, of Waukegan, formerly of Somerset, N.J., passed away September 10, 2002.
Fond uncle of Kenneth (Juli), Christopher and Melissa, whom he lived with and became a big part of their life and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and one sister.
He was a veteran of WW II and was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church.
Memorial Mass, Saturday, September 14, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church would be appreciated. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Illinois.
Richard McLaughlin
Richard McLaughlin, 50, a former 20 year resident of Libertyville, died suddenly June 24, 2002 in Portsmouth in the Commonwealth of Dominica. At the time of his death, Mr. McLaughlin was a medical student at Ross University Dominica. He was a graduate of Colorado at Boulder. Richard received his MS in Biology from Northeastern Illinois University.
He is survived by his father John (Sandy Oldershaw) of Chicago; his sisters Lynn Herlihy of New York, and Pamela (David) Crawford of Zion; his brother James of Mundelein; and his niece and nephews Michael, Erin and Brian Herlihy. He is preceded in death by his mother Marie and his brother John III.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14 at MCMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville, with the Rev. Fr. Robert Oldershaw officiating. Interment at Ascension cemetery. Visitation is on Saturday, 1 hr prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chicago Botanical Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd. Glencoe, IL 60022 would be greatly appreciated.
Richard "Dick" Moran
Richard Moran, age 63, of Fox Lake, IL passed away at Northern Illinois Medical Center on Wednesday, September 11, 2002.
He was born in Burlington, WI on May 2, 1939, the son of the late Bernice and Leo Edward Moran. He was a resident of Fox Lake for the past 30 years. He was employed at Eagle Foods in McHenry and Lindenhurst. He was a member of the Antioch Moose Lodge and a member of Ducks Unlimited where he also belonged to DU's Greenwing Program in Antioch. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including duck hunting, fishing, and gardening. He married
the former Carol Clary on May 6, 1961.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children: Patrick of Wisconsin, Dawne Stanton of Johnsburg, IL, and Chanyn (Phil) Winfrey of Long Lake, IL; his grandchildren: Steve and Mallorie Moran, Amber (Lance) Lonski, Tylar and Riley Stanton, Brytne, Phillip, Megan and Sean Winfrey; his sisters: Kathleen (Howard) England, Marilyn Vynalek, and Patricia (Robert) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Moran.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2002, at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rt. 83, Lake Villa, IL 60046. Interment will be at Windridge cemetery, Cary, IL. Visitation will be on Sunday, 2-6 p.m. and Monday, 9 a.m. until the time of service. Helen Raines
Helen Raines was called to rest on September 8, 2002 at the Pinnacle Health Care Center. She was born on January 8, 1923 in Bessemer, AL to the late Robert and Clara Reid.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bessemer, AL where she taught Sunday School for a number of years under the leadership of Rev. A.B. Burke. She taught school in Alabama.
She was a resident of North Chicago for 62 years, was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.D. Kilgore. She later moved her membership to St. James Church of God in Christ the Elder Torrence Markham pastor.
Helen was united in marriage to Edward Raines Sr. to this union one son Edward Raines Jr.
Helen is survived by her husband Edward Raines Sr., one son Edward Raines Jr., two sisters Willie L. Stewart of Waukegan, IL and Ella Hayes of Bessemer, AL, two brothers Herman Reid of Los Angeles, CA and Speed Reid of Atlanta, GA, 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clara and Robert Reid, 3 brothers Robert Reid, Val Reid, Cleveland Reid, and one sister Clara Miller.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the funeral home.

Pearl Shorman
Pearl Shorman 90 years of age from Carlyle, IL died Friday, September 6, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on November 17, 1911 a daughter of Daniel and Mirium (nee Campbell) Woodward. She married
Albert P. Shorman in Woodstock IL on August 16, 1931 and he preceded her in death on January 31, 1989.
Mrs. Shorman is survived by 2 sons Albert R. Shorman and wife Barbara of Ada OK and John Shorman and wife Denise of Carlyle. 1 daughter Janet Suidikas and husband Charles of Waukegan IL. A Nephew Francis Amann and wife Patricia of Round Lake IL. 1 Brother King Woodward and wife Pauline of Northport FL. 1 sister Maxine Bierlein of Gulf Breeze FL. 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, and her parents she was preceded in death by 3 brothers Vern Woodward, Raymond Woodward and Daniel Woodward, 3 sisters Faye McIntire, Dorothea Loth and Alice Mills. And 1 granddaughter.
Mrs. Shorman had lived in Carlyle for the last 15 mos. She retired after 40 years in the payroll department of F.W. Woolworths.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada Oklahoma with Rev. David Browning officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery in Ada OK.

Martin Behm
Martin Behm, age 90, of Johnsburg, died Thursday, September 11, 2003, at his home. He was born September 1, 1913 in Fremont Center to Isidor and Anna (Lenzen) Behm. On October 18, 1941, he married
Zita Weidner at St. Mary's Church in Buffalo Grove.
Born and raised in Fremont Center, he dairy farmed until 1973. He then moved to Johnsburg to help his sons with farming.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Enjoyments included playing cards and bowling.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Zita; four children, Susan (Robert) Blasius of Grayslake, Jack (Kathie) Behm of McHenry, Richard (Linda) Behm of McHenry, and Mary (Duane) Schmitt of Johnsburg; ten grandchildren, Brad, Kathie, and Kristi Blasius, Deana Behm, Rachel (James) Gratz, and Sarah Behm, Nicholas Behm, Todd, Adam, and Kevin Schmitt; four great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Olivia, and Martina Gratz and Zachery Schmitt; a sister, Evelyn (the late Harvey) Chamberlain of Mundelein; a sister-in-law, Madeline Behm of Spring Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucille (Anthony) Weidner; three brothers, Anthony, George (the late Marie), and Robert Behm; and a great granddaughter, Gabriella.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2003, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at GEORGE R. JUSTEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry, IL 60050.
Visitation will continue on Monday, September 15, from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, 2303 W. Church Street, Johnsburg.
Interment will be in St. Mary cemetery, Fremont Center.

Earl B. Brown
Earl B. Brown, 89, of Antioch, IL, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the home of his daughter in Antioch. He was born February 18, 1914 in Chicago and was a former resident of Libertyville. Earl and his wife had retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas before returning to live in Lake County for the past seven years.
Earl was a former service manager for Miller Krueger Dodge and Gustafson Motors in Libertyville and Mark Motors in Arlington Heights. He was also an avid golfer and a former member of the McHenry Country Club, golfing his last game at the age of 85.
Surviving are three children, Patricia (Clarence) Baldino of Antioch, Earl (Jeanne) Brown of Mundelein and Arthur (Cheryl) Brown of Trevor, WI; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; his sister LaRue (Robert) Lundin and his brothers Buell and Phil Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Buell Brown, Sr., his wife of 64 years, Jeannette M. Brown on July 30, 2001; his sisters, Venita Lundin and Helen Jean Barber; his grandson Daryl Brown and his great grandchildren, Jonathon Bratton and Angel Branstetter.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen M. Gleasman, officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. A private interment service will be held at Lakeside cemetery in Libertyville. Memorial contributions can be made to either Condell Home Healthcare or the Paramedic Unit of the Antioch Fire Dept. in his memory.
John George Halsey
John George Halsey, 90, of Lake Villa (formerly of Grayslake), passed away at his home on Thursday, September 11, 2003. He was born in Central City, Iowa on March 9, 1913, the son of the late Robert and Pearl (nee Lanman) Halsey. He was a farmer, and was the farm manager for Grayslake Gelatin Farms for 35 years until his retirement in 1978, after which he worked for Campbell Airport as a grounds keeper. He's been a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church for 51 years.
He is survived by his children, Audrey (Lyndon) Berglund of Grayslake and George (Diane) Halsey of Charleston; his daughter-in-law, Barbara Halsey of Ottawa; his brother, Alan Halsey of Charleston; his sister, Helen Rocchio of Casey; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Boyle Halsey in 1999 and his son, John H. Halsey in 2001.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2003 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 31 Park Ave., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.
