Emily C. Kuzmickas
Emily C. Kuzmickas (nee Petkus), 99, of Waukegan, IL, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003 at home. She was born on May 30, 1904 in Waukegan, IL. Emily was a homemaker most of her life, and was a member of Holy Family Church, (St. Bart's) and St. Bart's Senior Club in Waukegan.
She is survived by her daughter Virginia Kuzmickas of Chicago, IL, a granddaughter Rhonda (Chad) Enzeroth, great grandchildren Shanya and Wyatt, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph J. Jr. in 1985, a son Joseph J. III, in 1998, and a sister Kitty Totall in 2002.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave., Waukegan, IL. Visitation will be on Monday from 10 till time of mass at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials to Holy Family Church in her name. Services are entrusted to BRADLEY FUNERAL HOME, 313 10th Street, North Chicago, IL.
J. David "Dave" Luebkeman
J. David "Dave" Luebkeman, 93, resident of Round Lake in the town of Sampson, near New Auburn, WI died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Bloomer, WI. He was born in Eau Claire, WI on June 30, 1910, the son of Chris and Jenny (Stang) Luebkeman. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School where he played basketball and was quarterback of the football team. During the depression he attended Eau Claire Teachers College where he received his teaching degree. Following graduation he worked in Manitowoc five years then moved to Libertyville, IL. There he worked at Anchor Coupling retiring as Vice President of Sales in 1965. Dave earned his private pilots license in 1955 which began a lifelong interest in aviation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life.
Dave married
Jean Getchell in Wayne, Illinois on June 13, 1974.
He was a member of Libertyville, Illinois Lodge #492, a 32nd degree mason, and member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; and son, David Luebkeman of Hillsborough, CA. preceded in death by his parents; brother, George; and his sister, Frances Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at LENMARK-GOMSRUD-LINN FUNERAL HOME, Eau Claire, WI with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and an hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.

Mary Jean Mehaffey
Mary Jean Mehaffey, 67 years old of Naples, FL and Antioch, IL passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, IL. She was born February 3, 1936 in Lake Wales, FL, the daughter of the late Joseph and Crecy Elizabeth (Bellflower) Gaskins and has lived most of her life in Florida and Antioch. She attended the United Methodist Church and was a member of the P.E.O. Mary Jean was active in Newspaper Associations, was a member of the Women's Aglow, the Business and Professional Women of America and was honored in the Women in Business Who's Who Directory. On December 17, 1955 she married
John A. Mehaffey in Lake Wales, FL and has assisted him in business for many years.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mark Allen (Elizabeth "Beth") Mehaffey of Antioch, Scott David Mehaffey of Aurora, IL and Chris Douglas (Teresa) Mehaffey of Antioch; three brothers, Rev. Morris (Marie) Gaskins of Brooksville, FL, Jack (Olive) Gaskins of Brooksville, FL and Jerry (Fay) Gaskins of Rainsville, AL and three grandsons Lance Allen, Justin Earl and Ryan Douglas Mehaffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Gaskins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the United Methodist Church, 848 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, with Pastor Gary L. Curl, officiating. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 PM Monday at STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch and from 9:00 AM Tuesday until the time of services at the Church. Warren A. Nicholas Jr.
Warren A. Nicholas Jr., 81, of Libertyville, IL., passed away suddenly Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center. He was born June 2, 1922 in Libertyville and was a fifth generation resident of Lake County. He was a 1940 graduate of Libertyville High School and was the scoreboard operator for football and basketball games at Libertyville High School since 1958. For all his services, Nick was inducted into the IL. Basketball Hall of Fame and the IL. Athletic Director's Hall of Fame.
He was the former owner of Huber Electric in Lake Bluff, retiring in 1995 and was a member and past master of the Libertyville Masonic Lodge, #492 AF & AM. Nick was also a life member of the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society and was a founder and first president of the Libertyville Little League. He was active with the Boy Scouts and chaired the committee that created Libertyville High School District #128.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley (nee Tiffany) Nicholas; three children, Warren A. (Eleanor) Nicholas III of Libertyville, Earl H. Nicholas of Barrington and Elizabeth (Jim) Walker of Vail, AZ; his six grandchildren, Carrie (Mark) Sarver, Warren A. "Nick" Nicholas IV, Richard Austin Larrabee, Earl and James Larrabee and Frances Walker; and his great-grandson, Drew Sarver. Also surviving are numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren A. Sr,. and Ruth (nee Wells) Nicholas.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave, (RT176), Libertyville.
Masonic Services will be held during the Visitation at 4:00 PM. Private Interment will be at Lakeside cemetery.

Diane Sabine Petty
Diane Sabine Petty, 53, formerly of Zion, IL, passed away September 10, 2003 in Tennessee. Daughter of Kenneth and Jane Sabine.
Survivors include her husband Chuck Petty; daughter Andrea Hough; son Chuckie Petty; granddaughter Chrissy Parker; sisters Pam Sabine and Jill Greco; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Joshua Sabine.
Private services will be held in Tennessee.
Frederick Sidney Rogerson
Frederick Sidney Rogerson, 92, longtime resident and musician of St. Louis, MO, died July 16, 2003 in Moscow, Idaho. He was born October 17, 1910 at Oak Park, Illinois to Edwin Thomas and Jane Atkin Rogerson.
Most of his childhood was spent in Palmetto, Florida, on his parent's farm. Fred's interest in music began early; by age 7 he was playing the violin. When the family moved back to Illinois by age 14 he was in a band. Fred had a lovely voice and sang in churches and was vocalist for many bands. At age 19 he was playing both saxophone and clarinet. In 1929 Fred joined the Waukegan Federation of Musicians Local 284 AFofM. He was the 18th person on the membership list as of July 31, 1959. He became a Gold Card Life Member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians Local 10-208 AFofM through 1999. He was a lifetime member of the Musicians Association of St. Louis Local 2-197 AFofM, having joined January 8, 1949. He served on their Board of Directors. As a bass player and vocalist, some of the bands he played with in the early 1940's were Jimmy Gillette in Waukegan, IL at The Chateau; Gawood Van in Chicago at The Vine Gardens; Howard McCreery in New Orleans at The Cotillion; and Biloxi, MS at the Buena Vista Hotel. He was also with Eddie Stone in New York, at the Roosevelt Hotel as a summer replacement for Guy Lombardo and again with Eddie Stone in St. Louis. When Fred moved to St. Louis in the 40's he got the all-important day job as a turntable operator and music librarian at CBS KMOX Radio. He retired in 1975 but continued to play his bass. He played in the Stan Daugherty Band, playing at society parties and in the Cardinal's Sportsmans Park Bank.
As a longtime member of the Moolah Temple Shriners, having joined in 1958, he played in the Hayshakers a traditional jazz band and at times for the Shriners Circus. He played for many seasons with the St. Louis Muni Orchestra. His favorite job was a substitute, playing on The Delta Queen riverboat.
Fred petitioned to join the Freemasons St. Louis Olive Branch Lodge 576 on June 26, 1951. He made Master Mason October 23, 1951 and was a 50 year member in 2001.
Fred was initiated into the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, St. Louis Lodge 5, September 12, 1987, receiving 3rd Degree April 23, 1988. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Club and the Webster Grove High Twelve International, Inc.
Fred also loved to fish and was an excellent archer with the St. Louis Archery Club in the 1970's.
In November 2000, he moved to Moscow, Idaho, to be nearer his daughter.
Fred and his first wife, Florence Nedra Tordoff of Waukegan, IL had two sons, Harry Robert and Frederick Paul. A daughter, Bette Jane, was born to Elizabeth (Bette) Alice Landau, of Deerfield, IL. His wife of 51years, Clara Lou Bush of Joliet, IL. passed away in 1977. Fred's son, Harry, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann Spurling Rogerson, also preceded him in death.
Fred is survived by his son, Frederick Paul Rogerson of Otto, N.C. and his daughter, B. Jane and her husband Leonard T. Hetsler of Moscow, ID. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren surviving Fred are, from Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Vicki Rogerson her husband Steven Hoher and their children Ellen and James; from West Palm Beach, FL, Mike Rogerson and his wife Carol and their daughter Heather; from Jupiter, FL, Robert Rogerson his sons Forrest and Sebastian; from Vero Beach, FL, Katie Rogerson, her husband David Steed and their daughter Amanda; from Moscow, ID, Lorne Hetsler and Ethan Hetsler.
Fred will be buried next to his parents at Warren cemetery in Gurnee, Illinois.

Timothy Shields
Timothy Shields, 42, of Basset, WI, passed away Monday, September 8, 2003 at his home. He was born October 22, 1960 in Waukegan, and worked in construction and demolition.
Survivors include his daughter Crystal; brothers and sisters Carl, Debra (Mark "Ronnie") Fairbanks, Linda Poddock, Patricia Romero and James; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Dorothy, and a brother Leo, Jr.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 18, 2003 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home of Waukegan, 1521 Washington St. with a Memorial Service being held at 8:00 p.m. Arrangements by National Cremation Service, 5601 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60659.
Robert J. Simmons
Robert J. Simmons, age 76, of North Chicago, IL passed away on September 10, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, IL.
He was born in North Chicago, IL and resided in North Chicago/Lake County his whole life. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses' North Chicago East Congregation. he was a private owner truck driver for many years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert J. (Rosalyn) Simmons of Waukegan, IL and Calvin Simmons of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Wyshanda (Ronald) Simmons-Ivory of Memphis, TN; a sister, Dorothy Massie of North Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Dorion (May Joyal) Simmons of Kenosha, WI, Tasha Simmons of Corinth, MS, Keisha Simmons of Corinth, MS, Rita Simmons of Corinth, MS, Calvin Simmons of North Chicago, IL, Brandon Deon Simmons of Memphis, TN, Ronald Ivory Jr. of Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lindey and James Simmons; a daughter, Jocelyn Simmons.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bradshaw & Range Funeral Home, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL. Brother Edward Davis of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses' East North Chicago Congregation, officiating. Visitation 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment will be at Stegall & Adams Family cemetery, McNarry County, TN.
Donald Kenneth Sorensen
Donald Kenneth Sorensen, 47, formerly of Grayslake, Illinois, died of sepsis (blood) poisoning from a wound, on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at home in Saxon, WI. He was born September 28, 1955 in Libertyville, IL, the son of Albert and Marie (Willis) Sorensen. The youngest of six children, he was unmarried
.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Sorensen of Beloit, WI; three brothers, Charles, Raymond, and Robert Sorensen; two sisters, Dorothy Bouma and Sherry Monty; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father in 1985.
Final disposition was cremation, handled by McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood, MI.
Rita N. Steffenhagen
Rita N. Steffenhagen, 92, of Fremont Township, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Wauconda. She was born September 28, 1910 in Chicago and moved to the Sylvan Lake area of Mundelein in 1973. She and her husband lived briefly in Lanark, IL, retired to Brooksville, FL in 1977 and have lived in Saddlebrook Farms in Grayslake for the past 7 years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Fremont Center where she was a former member of the church choir. Rita had also been an operator for the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and secretary to the administrator at Carmel High School.
Surviving are three children, William (Ann) Steffenhagen of Mundelein, Mary K. Geary of Sharon, WI and Margaret (John) Janiszewski of Wauconda; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine Fleming, by her husband William on January 5, 2002, by her daughter Barbara Behm in 1991, by her sisters, Helen, Kitty and Mary and brothers, John and Bill.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16 at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church (new church) in Fremont Center. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville and from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Roberta Jane Tate
Roberta Jane Tate, 77, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center. She was born December 17, 1925 in Virden, IL to John and Alice Wrench. She graduated Deland High School and moved to Peoria, IL where she met Virgil L. Tate. They married
in Monticello, IL on February 3, 1946 then moved to Waukegan in 1952. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper. She loved ceramics, crafts, camping, traveling, being with friends and country music. She was a devoted wife to her husband Virgil. They were like two peas in a pod.
Roberta is survived by her husband Virgil; two sons, Gary (Debbie) Tate of Wildwood, IL and Michael (Lois) Tate of Missoula, MT; six grandchildren, Lisa Tate of Kihei, Hawaii, Marcella Tate of Missoula, MT, Heather Peterson of Minnesota, Shawn Tate of California, Kim Benedict of Waukegan, and Scott Tate of Antioch; ten great grandchildren; and her brother John Wrench of Deland, IL. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Gary and Michael wish to express their appreciation to Dad, her hero, who cared for Mom 24/7 showing his love and devotion to her... Thanks Dad.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. Interment is at Millburn cemetery, Millburn, IL. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
