Walter J. Short
Walter J. Short, 50, of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at St. Luke Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. He was born July 19, 1954 in Macomb, IL, the son of Adrian and Margaret Short, moving to Antioch in 1977. He worked as a Master Auto and Truck Technician for 29 years and was presently employed at the Wheels, Inc of Beach Park, IL. His hobbies included gardening, which he was well known for, fishing, boating and collecting Eagles and Hats. He was a fan of The Cubs, The Bears and NASCAR racing. On October 11, 1997, he married
Mary DeMars in Waukegan, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his mother, Margaret Short; his children whom he loved dearly, Jessica (Chuck) Fuller, Christopher (Janet) Short, Jennette (Tom) O'Connor, Michael Martin, Debbie (John) Cline, William (Connie) Hennig, Erick (Anna) Johnson, Michelle Johnson, Jay (Christy) DeMars, Jousha DeMars and Christy DeMars; and his brothers and sisters, Jack Short, Randee (Debbie) Short, Karen Munt, Mike (Kathy) Short, Harold (Beverly) Short, Jan (Mike) Hewitt and Jean (Walter) Potwora. He was the grandfather of 28 and great grandfather of three. He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Re. 83). Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a family memorial. Info: 847-395-4000.
Richard E. Slusser, Sr.
Richard E. Slusser, Sr., 69, of Waukegan, passed away on Wednesday September 8, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was born April 19, 1935 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident.
He was a member of St. Patrick Parish, Served in the U.S. M.C. Reserve, member of Senior Spirit and a S.H.I.P. Program volunteer. He held an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from College of Lake County and had served on the Waukegan Police Department for 4 years, he retired from the Wauconda Police Department. Prior to his law enforcement career he had operated Richie's Mobil service station at Grand and Butrick.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. "Jackie" (nee Paskauskas) Slusser; son, Richard E. Slusser, Jr. of Waukegan and daughter, Nancy (Fiancee, Louis Tucci) Slusser of NYC; brother, Harvey (Pat) Slusser of Waukegan, sister, Donna (Teyo) Gonzalez of Stickney, IL., brother, Theodore Gregory (Eleanor) Slusser of Stickney IL; sister-in-law, Joyce (Vern) Ladewig of Grayslake, IL, brother-in-law, James (Judy) Paskauskas of Gurnee, sister-in-law, Judy (Bernie) Vikre of Gurnee, sister-in-law, Jill (Jimmy) Smith of Ridgecrest, CA; also numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as his beloved cat, O'Brien.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Zola (nee Neece) Slusser, his sister, Ormay (Wally) Tyzenhaus; mother and father-in-law, George and Mary Paskauskas.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 11, 2004 at St. Patrick Church 15000 Wadsworth Rd. Wadsworth, IL. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Joann E. Sorenson
Joann E. Sorenson, 73 years old Antioch, IL passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, IL. She was born August 7, 1931 in Waukegan, IL, the daughter of the late William "Earl" and Florence (O'Keefe) Fairman and has been a life long resident of the area.
Joann was a graduate of Selons Beauty School and worked as a beautician for several years. She also worked as a waitress for Sequoit Harbor for many years. On October 26, 1971, she married
Edward Sorenson in Rockford, IL.
Survivors include her husband, Edward; her twin sister, Colleen (Albert) Fuller of Antioch, IL; two nephews, Craig (Michelle) Fuller and James (Raeann) Fuller, both of Lake Villa, IL; and three grand nieces, Alison, Carrie and Courtney.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon Monday, September 13, 2004 at Prince of Peace Church, Grand Ave. and Hwy 83, Lake Villa, IL. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch, IL. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 PM Sunday at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) Antioch, IL. Josef S. Szinavel
Josef S. Szinavel, 79 years old of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, FL. He was born August 19, 1925 in Hungary, the son of the late Ferenc and Emilia (Schultz) Szinavel.
He lived in Porto Alegre, Brazil for 25 years, before moving to Chicago in 1967. Josef was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved to be with his family and to read and travel. In 1992 he retired from the Laystrom Manufacturing Company, where he was a plant foreman and a tool and dye maker.
Many grateful tool and dye apprentices trained under him and he was also proud of the fact that he made one of the parts that made up the space craft that first landed on the Moon.
Survivors are his children, Irene Szinavel of Countryside, IL Cristina (Donavan) Hilsabeck of Las Vegas, NV, Josef Louis (Marjorie) Szinavel or Port St. Lucie, FL, Ernani Jose Szinavel of Round Lake, IL and Evelin (David) Ullrich of Fox Lake, IL; his sister, Irma Kiss of Schaumburg, IL and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 13, 2004 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) Antioch, IL. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon Sunday, until 3:00 PM.
Evelyn Terris
Evelyn Terris, 87, a recent resident of Ivanhoe, IL, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2002 at her home. She was born February 2, 1915 in Chicago, IL, where she was a resident of the Roseland neighborhood for most of her life.
She was also a former ten year resident of Palos Heights, where she was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two sons, William (Shirley) Terris of Ivanhoe and Bruce Terris of Miller Beach, Indiana; a grandson, Bruce (Lesley) Terris of Evanston; one sister, Laverne Grapenthien of Lansing, IL; one brother, Simon Dykstra of Rogers, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Terris in 1964; by a brother, Leslie and two sisters, Lorraine and Barbara.
Services will be held at 5:00PM, Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville, with the Reverend Stephen E. Farish, pastor of the Crossroads Church in Libertyville, officiating. Interment will be on Thursday at the Beverly cemetery in Blue Island. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 to 6:00PM on Wednesday.

Guido Travetto
Guido Travetto, 89, of Waukegan, IL passed away on September 7, 2002 at St. Therese Hospital. He was born in Macon County Missouri on July 5th, 1913 to the late Frank and Elenora Travetto. He was a welding foreman for Pacific Steel Boilers, gardener and estate manager on the Swift and Leigh Block Estates in Lake Forest, and he loved working in his own garden.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Leslie Travetto; one son, Nicholas F. (Foo) Travetto of Gurnee, IL; two grandchildren, Nicholas G. (Angila) Travetto of Gurnee, IL and Stephenie H. (Todd) Knurek of Gages Lake, IL; four great grandchildren, Biancha Travetto, Emily and Natalie Knurek, and Kristina Smith; one great great grandchild, James Docken; one brother, Ettore (Rosemarie) Travetto of Anna Maria Island, FL; one sister Gloria Borre of Gig Harbor, WA; two sisters-in-law, Marion and Josephine Travetto of Lehigh Acres, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Reno Travetto of Lehigh, FL.
Funeral services will be held at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2002. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Northshore Garden of Memories.
David B. Traxler
David B. Traxler, 73, died at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, McAllen, TX on Friday, September 6, 2002. He was born in Fond du Lac, WI on October 13, 1928. David served both in the US Army and the US Air Force. He worked for Commonwealth Edison Company for 35 years, retiring from the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Plant. He was raised to a Master Mason in Waukegan, IL in 1955 and became a 32 degree Mason in San Antonio, TX. He was also a member of the Al Amin Shrine in Corpus Christi. He loved to take children to the Shrine Hospital in Houston, TX for treatments. David was an Amateur Radio Operator for 38 years licensed as WA9PHD. He was also an active member of the Tip-o-Tex Motor Home Club. He married
Claribelle Van Treeck in 1950. David was a long time Episcopalian and a charter member of St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church of Mission, TX.
David is survived by his wife, Claribelle Traxler of Mission, TX; David J. "DJ" (Kimberly) of Arlington Heights, IL; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Bethany) Jordan and Mrs. David (Shelley) Baker both of Albany, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, David and Kathleen Traxler; Jacob, Amber and Travis Jordan; Bethany Baker Merhle and Ryan Baker and his great grandsons, Austin, Jordan and David Merhle. David is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary Lea) Eckert and four nieces, Linda, Susan, Marsha and Karen, all of Fond du Lac, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Leah Traxler.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church at 4000 North Taylor Road, McAllen, TX at 6 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2002, with Rev. Ram Lopez officiating. The body was cremated at Val Verde Memorial Gardens Crematory in Donna, TX. The family suggests that friends make memorial contributions to the Building Fund or Altar Fund at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church, 2704 C East Griffin Parkway, Mission, TX, 78572 or to Grace Episcopal Church in Clinton, IA. Margaret M. Adams
Margaret M. Adams, 86, of Wadsworth and Waukegan area, passed away September 8, 2003 at Pinnacle Nursing Home. She was born April 27, 1917 in Waukegan, IL. She was a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau, AARP, Lake Forest Alumni Association. She taught at three different one room country schools including Howe Pomeroy and Browe, finished her teaching career at Forestall Village Elementary School in Great Lakes. She had a love of teaching. She had numerous good friends that she loved doing things for.
Survived by one brother James (Wilma) Adams, nieces and nephews Judy (Fred) Zimdar, John Adams, Jerry and Joe Lambert, Sandy (Bill) Hepworth, Mark Adams, Barbara Adams, Carol (Tony) Liberto, David (Leslie) Adams, numerous great nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her parents Joe and Margaret Adams, three brothers, Ray, Don and Frank Adams.
Memorial service at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Father James Merold officiating. Burial will be private. Robert F. Hund
Robert F. Hund, 76, formerly of Waukegan, and of late, Pleasant Prairie, WI, passed away on Sunday September 7, 2003 of heart disease at his home. He was born on July 23, 1927 and was one of six children born to Paul and Blanch Hund of Waukegan, Illinois.
He was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and of Lake Forest College and continued his education with special courses at Northwestern University and the Michigan University Graduate School of Business. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1947. After basic training in Field Artillery, he was assigned to the Eighth Army Headquarters Chief of Staff office in Yokohama for more than a year.
He was Personnel and Safety Director of North Shore Gas Company until his retirement in 1988 after nearly 33 years of service. He was president of the Lake County Management Association, the Charter President of the Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois Industrial Management Association, president of the Lake and McHenry Industrial Safety Association, president of the Lake County Employment Managers Association, Chairman (two terms) of the First Aid Committee of the Red Cross North Lake County Chapter with a goal to have a first-aider in every home, and an instructor for 12 years. He was Chairman of the Waukegan-North Chicago Chamber of Commerce Health and Safety Committee, a member of the Chamber's National Affairs Committee and of its State Legislative Task Force, a member of the Advisory Council of the Lake County Safety Commission, a member of the Special Agents Association, a member of the Industrial Fire Protection Section of the National Fire Protection Association, a member of the American Gas Association general management section, a Conference Leader in an AGA national safety conference, and a member of the Lake County University Club. He was a member of the St. Anastasia Church and served on its Boy Scout Troop 16 Committee, which, through providing opportunity and guidance, produced an unprecedented seven Eagle Rank scouts over a five year period.
He is survived by Elizabeth (Thornborough), his wife of 51 years, two daughters Renee (George) Pratscher of Gurnee and Jacqueline (Dr. V. Stephen) Slana of Pleasant Prairie, WI, one son Robert M. (Sabrina Kapp) of Munich, Germany, two sisters Hazel (late Gunnard) Danielson of Waukegan, Geraldine (late Jack Torogian), (Howard) Peskator of Gurnee, nine grandchildren, Sean, Mallory, Megan, Zhanna and Yana Pratscher of Gurnee, Virginia, Elizabeth, Stephen and Caroline Slana of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and 25 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Dorothy (Thomas) Traynor of Beach Park and brothers Darrel (Ruth Ebbesen-Albin) of Tucson, AZ, and his twin brother Richard (Phyllis Stevenson) of Waukegan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 10, 2003 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery. Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 16, or the American Heart Association.
Maria F. Strang
Maria F. Strang, 84 of Wappingers Falls, NY formerly of Albuquerque, NM, Arlington Heights and Antioch, IL passed away Sunday July 6, 2003 at her home. She was born August 21, 1918 in Chicago, the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Schmitt) Schmidt and graduated from Mt. Alvernia High School in Chicago. Mrs. Strang was a homemaker. On February 4, 1950 she married
Howard G. Strang in Antioch, IL and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1995.
Survivors include three children, Joanne Kendler of Toms River, NY, Kenneth Schultz of Albuquerque, NM and Jeff Strang of Wappingers Falls, NY; eight grandchildren, James, John and David Kendler, Mary Ross, Kenneth Schultz II, Stephen Schultz, Derek and Kyle Strang and two nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 13, 2003 at STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83). Interment of cremains will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. James Dale Strickland
James Dale Strickland, age 71, was born on May 24, 1932 in Atoka, OK to James and Lucille Strickland and went home to be with Jesus on September 7, 2003. He served in Korea from May 1950-1952 with the 45th Infantry MP Company. Upon his return he courted and married
Agatha Cox on November 7, 1952. They were married
more than 50 years and had six children: Debra F. (William) Kolb of Zion; Bert Strickland of Kingfisher, OK; D. Michael (Danette) Strickland of Kenosha; Robert R. (Patricia) Strickland of Zion, Jennette K. (Brian) Hughes of Haslett, MI; and Lauri G. (Scott) Pickos of Kenosha. He served as deacon for many years at Zion Second Baptist Church. Helping to construct a new parsonage and build a thriving bus ministry were only some of his contributions. He sang bass in the church choir and instilled a love of music and of the Lord in his family. He was a member of the Local 150 - International Union of Operating Engineers for 40 years and received his lifetime membership pin.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, children, his sister Francille Leazer of Del City, OK, relatives and a host of friends. His 22 grandchildren: Laura (Tarek) Orabi, Tonya (Grant) Stillwood, Kimberly (Beau) Brewton, Kelly Kolb; Jeremy, Jaryd, Cody, Holly, Hannah, and Madisyn Strickland, James (Tiffany) Strickland, Janine Strickland, Danielle, Alex, Kathryn and Nataleigh Hughes; Marlene, Jonathan, Riely, and Carly Pickos.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Lucille Strickland, his in-laws Herbert and Olga Cox, one sister Wilma (Leon) Stewart, and his granddaughter Andrea Leigh Hughes. He is eternally loved and missed.

Thomas A. Twardy
Thomas A. Twardy, 92 of Pleasant Prairie and formerly of North Chicago, died Sunday, September 7, 2003 after a short illness. Tom was born January 1, 1911 in North Chicago and lived there most of his life.
He retired from U.S. Steel in 1973 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church/Queen of Peace, P.N.A., Knights of Columbus, Waukegan Council 731 and Steel Workers of America.
Tom is survived by two daughters; Elizabeth "Betty" (Eino) Seppala of Pleasant Prairie, WI and Judy (Jim) Moll of Covington, LA, much loved poppy to grandchildren Peggy Dever, Tom (Mary) Seppala and Scott Seppala of Waukegan, Jodi (Doug) DeNamur of Algoma, WI, Kari Moll of Destin, FL, Susie Moll of Dallas, TX, Jamie (Kathleen) Moll, Julie (Glynn) Huhn, and Scott Moll all of Covington, LA and 11 great-grandchildren; Jeremy, Michael and Katy DeNamur, David and Lexie Dever, Michelle and Jocelyn Seppala, Holly, Cassie and Holden Huhn, Ella Moll and one great-great grandson, Benjamin DeNamur. A brother, John Twardy of Waukegan, two sisters; Mary Phipps and Stella Dolinar of California.
Tom was preceded in death by wife Mary (nee Lesnak) on October 14, 1999. A son, Bill, parents Simeon and Catherine, brothers Casmier Twardy and Bill and Stanley Nemzick, two sisters, Lottie Bielen and Frances Jakaitis.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 729 14th St. North Chicago. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Queen of Peace Church, 900 14th St., North Chicago with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
