Donald F. Collins
Donald F. Collins, 83, of Lake Villa, IL passed away on Monday, September 6, 2004 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. He was born in Naperville, Illinois on April 24, 1938, the son of the late Benjamin and Agnes Collins. He was a resident of the Lake Villa area since 1938. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a Charter Member of the Lake Villa VFW Post #4308. He was the former Chief of Police of the Lake Villa Police Department and past member of the Lake Villa Rescue Squad. On May 19, 1945 he married Florence "Vicky" Carty. She passed away in 1999.
He is survived by his children, Sandra (Juan) Villar of Round Lake, IL, Donald G. (Ruth) Collins of Salem, WI and Robin (Bob) Quade of Lake Villa; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers, John (Eliza) Collins of Alabama and Bill (Betty) Collins of Lake Villa; and his cousin, Laverne Caron of Antioch, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicky; his son, Peter; and brothers, Benjamin, Kenneth and Gordon.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 83), Lake Villa, IL, 60046. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park cemetery, Libertyville, IL. Visitation will be on Friday, 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Lake Villa Rescue Squad.

Robert E. "Doc" Creel
Robert E. "Doc" Creel, 68, of Bristol, WI, formerly of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at home. He was born on August 7, 1936 in Cherokee, Iowa.
Doc had been a veterinarian in private practice in Iowa from 1960-1964 before going to Abbott Laboratories as a veterinarian at both the Abbott farm and pathology form 1964-1971.
After leaving Abbott, he became a Realtor with Poe & Poe Realtors in Waukegan before starting his own business with U.S. Development in Gurnee. Prior to retirement last year in August, Doc worked for the Illinois Tollway Authority. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1960, receiving his Doctorate in Veterinary Science.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey (Cindy) Creel of Gurnee; a daughter, Jeri (Joe) Prybell also of Gurnee; two grandchildren, Jennifer Creel and Ethan Kofman; his former wife, Sandra Geudtner of Lake Forest, IL; as well as a brother, Allan Creel of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Creel; as well as his parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8th from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM on Thursday at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee.

Jill D. Dayton (nee Koopmans)
Jill D. (nee Koopmans) Dayton, 44, of Libertyville, IL died tragically and innocently from injuries sustained after her car was struck by an Illinois State Police cruiser involved in a high speed traffic chase in Macomb, IL on Saturday, September 4, 2004.
She was born April 29, 1960 in Grand Rapids, MI and had been a Libertyville resident since 1990. She was a graduate of Jenison High School in Michigan, the University of Michigan and received her Masters degree from Purdue University, specializing in Gifted and Talented Education. Jill gave so much of herself to others, serving as the secretary on the Board of Love, Inc. of Lake County and as an active volunteer at Copeland Elementary School and with MainStreet, Libertyville.
Jill was a loving wife and mother, who radiated joy and optimism to all those she ever met. and was a positive, life-affirming child of God. She was the Children's Pastor at Northwest Christian Community Church in Mundelein for the past six years. Most recently, she was the Gifted and Talented teacher in the third-fifth grades at Kipling Elementary School in Deerfield.
Jill was a passionate, lifelong teacher who believed in the fantastic potential of every child to learn beyond most people's expectations. She saw nothing more important than brining out the best in every child, every day, in every class she taught. Her death is a monumental loss to the many that she touched in her short life.
Surviving are her loving husband of 20 years, Dr. Brian Dayton; and daughters, Amanda, Emily and Danielle, all of Libertyville; her parents, Kenneth and Dolores Koopmans of Grand Rapids, MI; her sister, Elissa Koopmans Schwartz of Bloomfield Hills, MI; two brothers, Scott (Rhosie) Koopmans of San Jose, CA and Jack Koopmans of Grand Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 10, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church, Maple and Douglas Avenues, Libertyville with Pastor John Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Thursday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Community Church or Love, Inc. of Lake County in Jill's memory. The Dayton family thanks the First Presbyterian Church for the kind use of it's sanctuary on Friday.

Gustav G. Franzen
Gustav G. Franzen, 86, of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at his home. He was born October 22, 1917 in Chicago, the son of the late Ernst and Teresa (Carlson) Franzen moving to Antioch in 1974. He worked over 42 as a photo engraver for Kiefer-Nolde in Chicago before his retirement in 1979 and was a member of the Graphic Arts Union. He also served in the U. S. Army during World War II. On September 25, 1945, he married Mary Connelly in Chicago, IL.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Mary; his children, Mark Franzen of Antioch and Pamela Webster of Waldport, Oregon; five grandchildren, Tracie, David, Robin, Kristin and Steven; and a great grandchild, Phoenix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and George.
Funeral services and interment in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Antioch were private. STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH handled the arrangements.

Laura R. Giordano
Laura R. Giordano, 87 years old, of Kenosha, WI, formerly of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the United Health System, Kenosha, WI.
She was born January 23, 1917 in Knapp, WI, the daughter of the late Frank and Elva (Rice) Sherman, moving to Antioch in 1969 and then back to Wisconsin in 1995. Laura had worked for several years for the former Regal China Co. in Antioch.
Survivors are her children, Rose Harville of Moulton, AL, Charles (Rose) Giordano of Waupaca, WI, Susan (James) Smith of Antioch and Agnes (Chuck) Gleason of Zion, IL; one sister, Donna Eberhard of Silver Lake, WI; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Frank; an infant daughter; one brother, Algie; and one sister, Iona.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2004 at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83). Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Elizabeth T. Gray
Elizabeth T. Gray, age 86, of Waukegan, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Rolling Hills Manor. She was born January 15, 1918 in Pittsburg, PA.
She was a member of St. Dismas Catholic Church. She was the owner of Betty Gray Beauty Salon in Waukegan for 40 years.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald J. (Kay) Gray and Richard K. (Pam) Gray; four grandchildren, Jodi (Ed) Tipler, Tami (Michael) Wennerstin, Brandon Gray and Ian Gray; one brother, Steven (Dorothy) Kenesie; one sister, Teddy (Robert) O'Malley; many nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Gray; her parents, John and Theresa Kenesie Gray; three sisters, Irma Kenesie, Ann Vinski, and Helen Kenesie; two brothers, John Kenesie Jr. and Andrew Kenesie.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 10, 2004 at St. Dismas Catholic Church, 2600 Sunset Ave., Waukegan. Burial at Ascension cemetery. Visitation from 5-8 PM Thursday and 8:30-9:30 AM Friday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd., Gurnee.

Theresa "Tess" (Clarkens) Krmicek (nee Betz)
Theresa "Tess" Krmicek, age 101, of Round Lake, longtime of Ingleside, Fox Lake and Morton Grove, died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the Hillcrest Retirement Center in Round Lake, IL. Twenty days after celebrating her 101st birthday. She was born on August 15, 1903 in Niles Center, IL, to John and Mathilde (nee Galitz) Betz. She was united in marriage to William E. Clarkens in 1923 and the couple worked in the construction and excavating business in Morton Grove, IL. They had also co-owned and operated the White Eagle Resort on Grass Lake Road in Spring Grove, IL (Later known as Jackson Bay) and had owned the Fox Lake Bowl on Rte. 12 from 1954-1960, until the time of his death.
In 1962, she was married to John Krmicek. She was the oldest member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Antioch, IL.
She is survived by her son, William F. Clarkens of Skokie, IL; her daughters, Ruth Nick of Ingleside, with whom she made her home, Irene (Clyde) Canovi of Gurnee and Arizona, Shirley (Edward) Glod of Glenview, Bernice (Wade) Winstead of Danville and Alice (Norman) Knaack of Largo, FL; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Violet Betz of Cudahy, WI; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; also survive;as well as many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, William Clarkens and John Krmicek; her brothers, John and Charles Betz; her sister, Mathilda Wedel; a grandchild, Christine; and by her son-in-law, Raymond Nick.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Faith Lutheran Evangelical Church, with Pastor Greg Hermanson, officiating at 1275 Main St., Antioch to which all are invited to attend from 10:00 AM through time of services.
Interment was private. Memorials to the Church Building Fund will be appreciated.

Mary E. Lapapa
Mary E. Lapapa, 87, of Waukegan passed away on Friday, September 3, 2004 at victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan. She was born February 12, 1917 in Ashland, Wisconsin and has been a Waukegan resident for 65 years. Mary was a member of St. Dismas Church, St. Dismas Women's Club, The Sweet Adelines and was a self-employed Beautician in Waukegan for over 25 years.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank Lapapa; children, Vince Lapapa of Waukegan and Donna (Tim) Levandoski of Waukegan; grandchildren, Cindy Levandoski of Waukegan, Kristen Levandoski of Gurnee, John (Maggie) Levandoski of Newport Beach, CA and Tim (Carin) Levandoski of Chicago. Mary is also survived by her great grandchildren, Alyssa and Bianca Levandoski-Torres of Gurnee; sister, Jean Tenuta of Jensen Beach, FL; many nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Geraldine Williams and Theresa Chichon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha (nee Andersen) Olson; and brothers, Edward, John and Robert Olson.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at St. Dismas Church, 2226 McAree Rd., Waukegan with Fr. John Ryan officiating. Entombment will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Friends may call at the church from 9 AM until time of Mass on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Dismas Church, 2226 McAree Rd., Waukegan, IL, 60087 or to the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N. County St., Waukegan, IL, 60085.

Francisco B. Lopez
Francisco B. Lopez, 95, of Waukegan passed away on Friday, September 3, 2004 at home. He was born October 4, 1910 in Mexico and has been a resident of Waukegan for 12 years. Francisco was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Onesima Lopez; children, Salustio Lopez, Tomas (Maria C.) Lopez and Maria Luisa (Juan) Barrera all of Waukegan; 21 grandchildren; and 41 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Constantina Lopez and Tayde Hernandez; a brother, Eubsevio Hernandez; and many nieces and nephews, all of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Hernandez and Irene Lopez.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, 401 N. Genesee St., Waukegan from 6 to 9 PM. Interment will be in Mexico.
Arrangements are under the direction of PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan.

Dr. Jonathan P. Miller "Jeep"
Dr. Jonathan P. "Jeep" Miller, 79, of Libertyville, IL, passed away suddenly Sunday, September 5, 2004 at his home. He was born December 2, 1924 in Boonville, MO, the son of Dr. & Mrs. J.P. Miller. While attending college, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and flew 30 missions over Europe, as a navigator during World War II. Upon finishing his tour of duty, he enrolled at the University of Missouri, graduating in 1949 with a Master's degree in Biochemistry. While attending the university, he met and married his wife of 58 years, Maretta Collier Miller. Following college, he started his career as a research scientist at Abbott Laboratories. Early in his career, he enrolled at Northwestern Medical School and graduated in 1956 with his PhD in Biochemistry. He then spent the rest of his career at Abbott Laboratories, from where he retired in 1986, after 34 years of service.
During his residence in Lake County, IL, Dr. Miller served on several boards and committees in various community and charitable groups. These included the Boy Scouts of America, Salvation Army, Waukegan Philharmonic Society, Waukegan Symphony Chorus, Victory Memorial Hospital, Love Inc, Clara Abbott Foundation and others. He and his wife were members of the First Baptist Church in Waukegan, where he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee, and later they joined the First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville, where Dr. Miller served as an Elder and also sang in the choir. Following retirement, he enjoyed writing and the pleasure of sharing his writing with close friends. One of his favorite pastimes, was to spend time on a lake in Canada, fishing with his sons, grandsons, and friends.
Surviving are his wife Maretta; 2 sons, David (Ginny) Miller of Venice, CA and Mark (Maureen) Miller of Libertyville; his grandsons, Jonathan and Sean and his sister, Donna Braxdale of Springfield, VA.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Fri. at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave., (Rt. 176) Libertyville. An interment service at Lakeside cemetery on Saturday will be limited to family, followed by a memorial service for the public at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11 at the First Presbyterian Church, Maple and Douglas Avenues, Libertyville. The family suggests donations to the music department of the First Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice in his memory.

A. John Ortseifen
A. John Ortseifen, age 83, of Lake Forest, died August 25, 2004. He was born in Chicago on January 19, 1921.
He retired after 50 years as the owner of Aerial Photo & Survey Co. located at the Landings in Huntley, IL. Mr. Ortseifen was a graduate of DeVry Institute and attended West Point. He was a mechanical, electrical and photogrammetic engineer. He was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Warbirds of America. He and his wife, Patricia, once left on a two-week trip to Nassau and wound up cruising the Carribean for one year on the 47 ft. cutter, the "Waltzing Mathilda."
He is the husband of Patricia N. Ortseifen.
Memorial mass 11 AM Saturday, September 18 at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. Inurnment St. Mary cemetery Columbarium, Lake Forest. No visitation.
