Frederick G. Modde
Frederick G. Modde, 89, of Hampshire died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Provena St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan. He was born August 15, 1915 in St. Charles, the son of Gustav and Emilie Anna Modde. Fred was a 1932 graduate of St. Charles High School.
He married
Gladys Munch in June of 1938 in St. Charles and they were longtime residents of Hampshire. Mr Modde was a punch press operator for McGraw-Edison of Elgin for over 25 years and at Cornell Forge in Hampshire for over 10 years.
He was elected Hampshire Township Supervisor in 1968, a position he proudly served for 20 years. He was a World War II Marine Corp veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #680 of Hampshire. He had also been a Boy Scout Leader, after becoming one of the first Eagle Scouts in the St. Charles area. Fred was a "hail fellow, well met" and a proud and stubborn Belgian.
Surviving are six children, Michael (Deborah) Modde of Gurnee, Guy (Beth) Modde of Elgin, George Modde of Hampshire, Marsha (Danny) McMichael of West Hartford, CT, Philip Modde of Elgin, and Douglas Modde of Fayetteville, NC; nine grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys on September 16, 1969; granddaughter, Carrie McMichael; and three sisters, Rachel Geldmeyer, Delphine Mayotte, and Leona Polly.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the FREDRICK FUNERAL HOME, 284 Park St., Hampshire. Burial will be in the Hampshire Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to the Hampshire Lions Club or to the Hampshire American Legion.
Jean E. O'Toole nee Krueger
Jean E. O'Toole nee Krueger, 54 of Waukegan died suddenly Oct. 3, 2004 in Wadsworth. Jean was born Oct. 18, 1949 in Ottawa, IL and had lived in this area for the past 11 years.
Jean was a Nursing coordinator and had spent more than 30 years in mental health nursing.
She is survived by her husband John and her sisters Rita (Bill) Lyall of Aurora and Mary Krueger of Ottawa.
A memorial service will be held at 7 PM Thursday Oct. 7 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Chapel Thursday evening from 6 PM until the time of Service.
Domingo P. Cimatu
Domingo P. Cimatu, 77, of Waukegan passed away on Friday, October 3, 2003 at the V.A. Medical Center.
He was born February 14, 1926 in the Philippines and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Maria; seven children, Loida (Virgilio) Baluyot, Victor (Gloria) Cimatu, Medelina (Homer) Queyquep, Ronnie (Matessa) Cimatu, Emily (Peter) Sy, Noel Cimatu, Jamie Cimatu and Henry Cimatu; grandfather of 16.
Funeral Services will be held at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. at 11 AM Saturday, October 12, 2003. Burial will be in Warren cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 PM Friday, October 11, 2003 and 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee.
Ralph Fenzel
Ralph Fenzel, age 84, passed away Tuesday, September 30,2003 at Libertyville Manor in Libertyville, IL. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army and a driver for Salerno for 37 years. Ralph was a part time Grayslake policeman from 1957 to 1997 when he retired. He was a Grayslake resident since moving there in 1957. Ralph loved camping, fishing, and panning for gold in South Dakota. He was a great father and a wonderful grandfather.
Ralph is survived by his sons, Larry (Sharen) Fenzel and Tom (Terri) Fenzel; his grandchildren, Carrie (Jeremy) Florio, Sean Fenzel, Austin Fenzel, and Kurt Fenzel; a brother-in-law, Walter Uhlemann, and his best friend Edward Wunderle.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, October 6, 2003 at 11:00am at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030. Reverend Lisle Kauffman will be officiating. Interment will be held immediately after the service at Highland Memorial Park cemetery. Friends of the family may visit on Sunday, October 5, 2003 at the funeral chapel from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Indian School.
Luther Goddard
He stood tall, fought for what he believed and never gave up. His love for his family was never ending. He will live in our hearts forever. And like the words of his favorite Hymn "My God is Real", His love was like pure gold, for we can feel him in our soul. A wonderful and loving husband and father and the world's greatest Grandpa.
Luther Troy Goddard, 63, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at his home in Tishomingo, Mississippi. He was born May 22, 1940 in Mississippi. He lived in Illinois for 34 years and during that time, he worked at Johns-Manville, then he became a chauffeur and body guard in Lake Forest, IL. He also worked for Abbott Laboratories for 10 years then retired to his childhood home in Mississippi. He enjoyed fishing and most of all, spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rosemary Goddard of Tishomingo, MS; a son, David Goddard of Paden, Mississippi; a daughter, Rose Marie Burke of Gurnee, IL; a son-in-law, Wayne Burke; and his two grandsons, Danny and Kevin Burke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and a grandson, Steven Lee Burke.
The funeral was held at Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont, Mississippi with the burial at Jackson Camp cemetery in Tishomingo, MS on September 26, 2003.
Elizabeth Mae Hoffman
Elizabeth Mae Hoffman, 81, of Antioch went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 3, 2003 with her family by her side. She was born May 2, 1922 in Bushton, IL, the daughter of the late Clarence and Helen (Sturtevant) Brocar. Elizabeth accepted the Lord in June and then was baptized August 9, 2003 at the Lighthouse Church of Antioch where she attended. On October 7, 1939, she married
Wayne Hoffman in Clinton, IA and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1967. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchild.
Survivors include her seven children, Margaret (Earnest) Franks of Kansasville, WI, Dorothy Villar, Patricia Wells and Mark all of Antioch, Carolyn Onstad of Beaver Dam, WI, Michael of Union Grove, WI and Deborah (Jesse) Ortega of Genoa City, WI; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her son, Steve on July 8, 2001; her sister, Margaret and infant brother, Perry.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 6, 2003 at the Lighthouse Church of Antioch, 554 Parkway, Antioch with Pastor Tom Bartmer officiating. Interment will follow in Hosmer cemetery, Bristol, WI. Friends may call at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), Antioch from 12 Noon until 4 PM on Sunday and at the church on Monday from 10:30 am until time of services. Robert M. Johnson
Memorial Services for Robert M. Johnson, 77, of Benton, KY, formerly of Waukegan, IL will be held at the Yorkhouse Methodist Church in Waukegan, IL in December.
Born December 4, 1925 in Libertyville, IL, he passed away Monday, September 22, 2003 at the Calvert City Convalescent Home in Calvert City, KY.
Robert resided in Waukegan, IL until he moved to Benton, KY in 1993. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He retired in 1985 as head of Maintenance of the Waukegan Unit School District. He loved woodworking and fishing. As a young man he enjoyed and excelled in baseball.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Burris Johnson of Benton, KY, one daughter, Linda (Joseph) Peterson of Gurnee, IL, step-children Dorothy (William) McCaffrey of Waukegan, IL, George Burris of Beach Park, IL, Steven (Becky) Burris of Piper City, IL, Shelley (James) Savage now in Papua, New Guinea, and fourteen grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley R. Johnson in 1981, his son, David R. Johnson in 1976 and his parents Theodore Johnson and Laura Bordell, and three brothers, Theodore, William and Donald.
Burial will be private.
Vincent F. Lusch
Vincent F. Lusch, 81, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born February 8, 1922 in Odin, Illinois, he was the son of the late Michael F. Lusch and Bessie M. Willoughby.
A World War II veteran, he married
Irene E. Humble in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1951. He was employed by Johns-Manville Corporation for 34 years and was a resident of Waukegan for over 50 years.
Survivors include his children David (Virginia) Lusch of Antioch, Donna (Tim) Goforth of Zion, Jeffrey Lusch of Waukegan; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Zachary and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, and a brother, Michael L. Lusch.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2003 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St., with Pastor Dennis Corley officiating. Internment will follow at Warren cemetery, Gurnee, IL. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
Eevi (Hukkala) Palo
Eevi Palo, 83, of Columbia, MO and formerly of Waukegan, died September 29, 2003 at The Arbors, Bluff Creek, Columbia, MO.
Eevi was born August 26, 1920 in Alavus, Finland, to Edward and Maria Hukkala. The family emigrated to the United States when Eevi was approximately 6 years old.
Eevi was an employee of the Department of Public Aid in Waukegan, retiring from there after approximately 15 years of service. She was a life-long member of the Waukegan Historical Society She was married
to Edwin Palo in Waukegan on September 28, 1940. Eevi was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Women's Guild of the church.
Along with her husband, she was a member of the Waukegan Finnish Choir, and also appeared in Finnish plays at the Finnish Temperance Hall. They were also involved in a local Square Dance Club, as well as being members of the Swedish Glee Club.
In 1973, following a tragic automobile accident in which her husband was killed, Eevi moved to Columbia, MO to be near her son Nicholas. While in Columbia, she was a member of the Sunshine Senior Bowling League and the Bohemia Ragtime Society. She loved to travel, and with her friend Inez Schmidt, visited the European countries of Finland, Austria, Germany and Italy, plus Hawaii, and including trips within the United States.
Surviving are her sons Nicholas Palo and Timothy (Linda) Palo, grandson Christopher Edwin, great-granddaughter Kim, step-grandchildren Cody and Adrianne, plus numerous cousins in the United States and Finland. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Edwin.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel at North Shore Garden of Memories, 18th St. and Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL, with Pastor Jeffrey Koth officiating. Interment will follow the services.

Raymond Rockenbach
Raymond Rockenbach, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2003 at his home in Grayslake, IL. He was born to the late Almon and Elizabeth (nee Catlow) Rockenbach on February 15, 1914 on the family farm in Prairie View, IL, the seventh of 14 children. At the age of 12, he moved to Crystal Lake where he later graduated from the Crystal Lake High School. Raymond was employed by U.S. Steel, Cyclone Fencing Division prior to opening Rockenbach Hardware in the early 1950s in downtown Grayslake. He moved to Pennsylvania in 1964 where he was a sales representative for Sellstrom Manufacturing Inc. In 1968 he returned to Grayslake and reopened Rockenbach Hardware and Decorating. Raymond had a very active retirement. He enjoyed designing, building, and drive floats for any parade through downtown Grayslake. He was an avid gardener belonging to the Grayslake Greenery Garden Club. His family will always treasure the decorative wheel barrels he crafted. He was a member of the Grayslake Volunteer Fire Department, Grayslake School Board District 46, Grayslake Development Corporation, Lake County Heritage Farm Committee, and United Protestant Church. He was past President of the Grayslake Historical Society, past President of the Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scout Troop Leader, and Village of Grayslake Trustee.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Charlene (Wray Behrensmeier) Rockenbach; his children, Terry (Marge) Rockenbach, Pamela (Charles) Relitz, Dennis (Jean) Rockenbach, Jean Topping, Sally Kelly and Laura Behrensmeier; his grandchildren, Russell (Lisa), Margaret and Jorie Rockenbach, Paige (Tim) Zimmerman, Todd (Donna) Wellens, Timmothy Wellens, Michelle (Jim) Pelech, Jacquelyn (David) Knoeppel, Carrie (Harry) Waller, Elizabeth, Ellen and Geoffrey Topping, William and Jennifer Kelly; his great grandchildren, Rebecca Rockenbach, Brandon Zimmerman, Kaitlyn and Zachary Wellens, Peyton Pelech and Laurel Waller; his sisters, Mary Knox, Dory Forsythe, Sarah Belcher; and his brothers, Rodney, Phil and Lyle Rockenbach.
His first wife Virginia (nee: Stiller), sisters, Esther Mills, Ruth O'Hare, Elizabeth Wolf and Shirley Spear; and his brothers, Robert, George and Joseph Rockenbach preceded him in death.
A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the United Protestant Church, 54 Whitney St., Grayslake, IL, 60030 at 11 AM. The interment will be private.
