Mary Lou Renehan
Mary Lou Renehan (Marlies Werle) of Lake Worth, FL, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2003.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Marlies, her son-in-law Scott; her three beautiful grandchildren, Nick, Elizabeth and Meaghan; also by her brother, Eberhardt; her nephews, Larry, Gary, Jeff; and her niece, Sue.
She was retired from Whiteside Draperies, Zion. During the 1950s she was the secretary/interpreter for the editor-and-chief of "Popular Mechanics". She was the first person in Chicago to own a Volkswagen Beetle - she told us stories on how she was teased for her very odd, very tiny little car. She was a very wonderful woman whose legacy will always be known for her wonderful German cooking and her warm, gracious ability to entertain.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 28 at First Congregational United Church of Christ at 320 Grand Avenue, Waukegan, IL (847) 336-5368.
Donations can be sent in her name to The Broward Outreach Center, D. & A. T. - 2056 Scott St., Hollywood, FL 33020.

Leonard Thielen
Leonard Thielen, 76, of Bradenton, FL, died November 24, 2003. Born January 27, 1927 in Chicago, IL, he moved to Bradenton in 1982 from Round Lake, IL.
He was a retired post master in Round Lake. He was a member of the American Legion, former member of Knights of Columbus, and member of the Lions Club, all in Round Lake. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Sarasota, FL, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Marion R.; three sons, Dale W. of Texas Mabank, TX, Ronald J. of Chicago, IL, and James A. of Parrish, FL; his mother, Antoinette Thielen, and sister, Luella Folgers, both of Round Lake; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be at 11 AM Monday, December 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, or to American Diabetes Assn., P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Junior "Dean" Winter
Junior "Dean" Winter, 77, formerly of Waukegan passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2003 at his home in Fox Lake following a courageous battle with Cancer. He was born July 17, 1926 in Kennan, Wisconsin and lived in Waukegan for 38 years. He retired in 1992 from Public Works, City of Waukegan. In 1954, he married Mary Lou MacFarland. Dean was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. He enjoyed many years of fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou; a son, Bruce William (fiancee, Razel Iglesia) of Lindenhurst, IL; a granddaughter, Tabitha Marie Winter of Grayslake, IL; two brothers, John (Mary Jean) Winter of Mondovi, WI and Jess (Shirley) Winter of Scranton, PA; three sisters-in-law, Ruth (Bill) Kosterman of Port Charles, FL and Lucille (Marvin) Bohlman and Connie Sharp both of Racine, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elmer and Elaine Winter; four sisters, Jane, Helen, Margaret and Mary Bell; a sister-in-law, Mildred Gregory; a brother-in-law, Maurice Sharp; and by his mother-in-law, Marie MacFarland.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 9 AM at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Racine, WI. Visitation will be Saturday, November 29, from 8 AM until time of service at Our Lady of Humility Church.

Douglas A. Adams
Douglas A. Adams, age 52 of Osage, IA, formerly of Waukegan, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage. Douglas was born January 16, 1952 in Osage, the son of Wayland and Shirley (Rohne) Adams. He graduated from Osage High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy where he spent 14 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. While stationed in the Philippines, he met his wife, Julie. They married in 1978. To this union came one child, Jennifer. They made their home in Waukegan. He worked for the VA Hospital in North Chicago for the past 17 years until his short battle with cancer brought him back home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery in Mitchell with Military Honors at the Grave by Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, and will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Douglas is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Adams of Charles City; mother, Shirley Adams of Mitchell; six sisters, Connie (Ron) Pint of Osage, Jackie (Chuck) Grimm of Mitchell, Terry Adams of Mitchell, Kim (Brian) Clayton of Mitchell, Paula (Randy) Kamp of Mitchell, and Sherry (Don) Schmidt of Simpsonville, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by his wife, Julie on September 1, 2004; father, Wayland Adams; brother, Wally Adams; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Jack H. Baldwin
Age 79
A former resident of Lake Villa, IL and Salem and Tomahawk, WI and a longtime resident of Ingleside, died Monday, November 22, 2004 in Pleasant Prairie, WI. He was born on May 6, 1925 in Lake Villa to Edgar and Martha "Marty" (nee Hartwig) Baldwin, and had graduated from Grant Community High School where he participated in basketball, football and baseball. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Marines during WWII and had been employed as a tool grinder with V.R. Wesson/Fansteel Tool and Die Manufacturing Co. in North Chicago for many years before his retirement. He loved reading, watching football and was a history buff.
Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Kristine (Charles) Pratt of Tierra Verde, FL, Peter Michael "Pete" (Susie Szczepaniak) Kukla I of Antioch, IL, Terri (Klaus) Malenke of Camarillo, California, Joseph (Nanci) Kukla of Richmond, IL; by his great nieces and nephews, Peter Michael Kukla II of Fox Lake, Andrew (Kris) Harrington of Ingleside, Jeffrey and Joey Kukla, both of Richmond, IL, Rachel Pratt of Florida, Heather Malenke of California and Alicia Szczepaniak of Antioch. By his cousins, Denny (Joani) Regan of Appleton, WI, and Donna Clark of Mayville, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edith "Edie" Kukla.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2004 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. Funerl services will begin at 12 Noon with the Rev. Lisle J. Kauffman officiating. Burial will follow at Grant cemetery in Ingleside, IL.

Bruce W. Chagoya
Bruce W. Chagoya, age 49, passed away on November 20, 2004 at his Waukegan home. He was born July 1, 1955 in Waukegan.
He was an auto mechanic.
He was the loving father of Joan and Felix Chagoya; step-father, of Bert and Gabriel Ramirez; beloved son of the late Joan and Felix Chagoya; dear brother of Claudia Chagoya and Yolanda Quebrado; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends to gater Tuesday, November 30 for 6 p.m. memorial mass at Holy Family Parish, 450 Keller, Waukegan.

Wilma A. Fitzsimmons Dicks
Wilma A. Fitzsimmons Dicks, 98, 22 days shy of her 99th birthday, Sunday, October 24, 2004 in San Mateo, CA. She and her husband, Eldon, who preceded her in death, were long time residents of Waukegan, IL where they were known for their beautiful garden and flower arrangements before they moved to San Mateo, CA in 1988. Wilma was born November 16, 1905, the second youngest and last remaining of five daughters born to Lillian (Potterton) and Richard Fitzsimmons.
She graduated from Dodgeville High School and later from Milwaukee State Teachers College. She taught in Beloit, WI and Lake Forest Country Day School where she was recognized for her expertise in teaching reading. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Waukegan Women's Club and numerous bridge groups.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn A. Barrett of Burlingame, CA; three grandchildren, Susan (Todd) Comen of Middlesex, VT, Stephen (Angy) Johnson of San Mateo, CA and Sharon Bock of Madison, WI; four great grandsons, Philip and Noah Comen, Dylan and Andrew Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law; nephews and nieces through out the United States and Canada.
Interment and a grave-side service will be held in the late spring of 2005 at Warren cemetery, Gurnee, IL. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Waukegan, IL, the Parkinson's Disease Association or a charity of your choice.

Joe Freeman Jr.
Joe Freeman Jr., 67, of North Chicago, Illinois passed away on Monday, November 22, 2004 at the Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, Illinois.
Joe Freeman Jr was the third child born to the late Joe and Maxine Freeman on October 3, 1937 in West Memphis, Arkansas. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Tree of life Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee and attended Wisconsin High School. Joe relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1964 where he worked at United Felt as a machine operator.
His father; mother; and two sisters preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 43 years, LaVerne; a daughter, Wanda Y. (Rodney) Sewell a son, Eric Dwayne (Ruth) all of Wadsworth/North Chicago, Illinois; five sisters, Ethel Jean, Beverly, Barbara Joyce and Brenda from Memphis, Tennessee; two brothers, Willie Frank and Jerome from Memphis, Tennessee and Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Eric Dwayne, Tiffany, Eric DeAndre, Erica, Serena, Katrina and Evan; and a host of in-laws and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 29, 2004 at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL with Pastor C.L. Fairchild of Greater Faith Baptist Church of Waukegan, IL officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Monday at 10 AM.

Vernon C. Gurley
Vernon C. Gurley, age 92, of Zion, Illinois, died Friday, November 26, 2004 at Rolling Hills, Zion, IL. He was born March 26, 1912 at Sarcoxie, Missouri.
He was a retired tavern owner of Gurley's Tavern, Gurnee, IL. Vernon graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora, Missouri, May of 1930. He joined the Navy in January of 1931, met Esther Kusko in New York City and married January 23, 1935 in San Pedro, California, and was honorably discharged from the Navy January 1937 as a "Musician First Class."
After his Naval discharge Vernon worked for Abbott Labs until 1946 at which time he and Esther purchased a general store in Gurnee. Over time the property was converted to a restaurant/tavern and was renamed "Gurley's Tavern". The tavern became the place in Gurnee to meet friends and catch up on all of the latest gossip. Thus the tavern became known as "the tavern where everybody goes." After a fulfilling and happy 29 years they sold the business and retired in 1975. They lived in Lake Bluff, North Chicago, Waukegan, Gurnee and Round Lake, all in Illinois.
He was the husband of the late Esther; father of Robert, John, Stephen and the late Vernon L.; brother of Anna Beth Lumry and the late Richard Gurley; and the proud grandfather of Kevin, Kimberly, Kathryn, Kurtis, Kyle, Katherine, Michael, Mary, Susan, Karen, Glenn and Christine; and proud great grandfather of Mariah, Miranda, Makayla, Jaclyn, Andrew, Margaret, Theodore, and Jeanette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Malloy and Elsie; brother, Richard; wife, Esther; and son, Vernon L.
Funeral service and visitation will be private with burial at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Donations in Vernon C. Gurley's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Baby Boy Hornberger
Baby Boy Hornberger, son of Scott and Kristen (Miller) Hornberger was stillborn on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center.
He is survived by his parents of Kenosha; his grandparents, Joan Miller of Wheeling, IL and Jackie and Walter Hornberger of Libertyville, IL.
Funeral services for Baby Boy Hornberger will be held on Sunday, November 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home. Interment will be Monday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park Babyland. Friends may call at the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Kenosha Humane Society. Arrangements are in the care of the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home.

Rosa P. Hughes
Rosa P. Hughes, of Waukegan, IL, ascended to heaven in God's loving arms on November 23, 2004. Rosa was born in Coatopa, AL on September 21, 1950.
As a resident of Lake County for over 30 years, she served as a teacher, counselor, manager, ministry leader, and nurturing friend. Rosa accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church.
On September 22, 1979, she married Langston Hughes, her lifetime companion. This year they were blessed to celebrate 25 years of holy matrimony.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Langston Hughes; four children, Shauna (Mitchell) Smith of Bristol, CT; Langston Marcus, Ashton and Alyceson, all of Waukegan, IL; four sisters, Sadie (Joe) Gillespie-Buchanan, J. Delores (James) Patterson, Beach Park, IL, Joann GIllespie, Coatopa, AL, Caroline Wilson, Clarksville, TN; and one brother, Eugene Wright, Jr., Coatopa, AL; two grandchildren, Mitchell, Jr. and Mikayla of Bristol, CT. A life long friend, Shirley Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, Lorene Wright and Thomas Gillespie; and a brother, Tony Edward Gillespie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 29 at the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 1529 Elizabeth Avenue, North Chicago, IL. Rev. Eugene Roberson, officiating. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hughes' children college fund with Bank One, Gurnee, IL.
