Nicholas "Nick" Myron Dowdal
Nicholas "Nick" Myron Dowdal, 73, of Waukegan, died November 23, 2004 at the V.A. Medical Center in North Chicago.
He was born June 19, 1931 in Muscatine, IA, but had lived in this area most of his life. He married Betty Richards of Round Lake on February 14, 1970. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan and worked for Johns-Manville for 18 years and also at Hacker's Aluminum in Zion. Nicholas was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Zion-Benton American Legion and the Winthrop Harbor VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; six children, Lynda (Larry) Smith of WI, Nicholas Max (Teresa) Dowdal of Beach Park, William (Linda) Richards of Salem, WI, Janet Richards (Stuart Kirsch) of Ann Arbor, MI, Chris Holmstrom of Salem, WI and Meg (Rich) Plotsky of Coppell, TX; eight grandchildren,; and one sister, Millie Houte of Winfield, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Nicholas J. and Rillia Rowdal; one sister, Pat Lienau and an infant son, Patrick Dowdal.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2004 at noon at First Presbyterian Church, 122 N. Martin Luther King Dr., Waukegan, with Pastor David Eikenberry officiating.
Interment will follow at Pine View Memorial Park, Beach Park. Visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion and again from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, November 27, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Westminster Choir of the First Presbyterian Church or the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Community Affairs Dept., 3001 Green Bay Rd., North Chicago, IL 60064.

Joseph D. "Joey" Enright
Joseph D. "Joey" Enright, 82, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Hillcrest Retirement Village in Round Lake Beach, IL. He was born July 12, 1922 in Calument City, IL and had lived in Waukegan since 1932; he moved to Hillcrest in 1994.
Joey was a member of St. Anastasia Parish and was well known for many years as a Newsboy for Porett Bros. at his stand on Washington and Genesee Streets.
He is survived by his sister, Josephine Eisenhart of Lindenhurst; sister-in-law, Marguerite (nee Bartzen) Enright of Satellite Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Henry C. Rhyan of San Diego, CA; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who remember him with fondness and affection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathryn (nee Walsh) Enright; brothers, Thomas Enright and Richard (Gwen) Enright; sisters, Marguerite (James) Abrahamson and Maxine Rhyan; and niece, DeeAnn (nee Abrahamson) Lee.
Joey's family would like to extend many grateful thanks to the Staff, Nurses and Aides at Hillcrest and also to Vitas Hospice Care personnel who cared so well for Joey in his last years.
Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan with Fr. Aloyisius Funtilla officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Rosa P. Hughes
Rosa P. Hughes, of Waukegan, IL, ascended to heaven in God's loving arms on November 23, 2004. Rosa was born in Coatopa, AL on September 21, 1950.
As a resident of Lake County for over 30 years, she served as a teacher, counselor, manager, ministry leader, and nurturing friend. Rosa accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church.
On September 22, 1979, she married Langston Hughes, her lifetime companion. This year they were blessed to celebrate 25 years of holy matrimony.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Langston Hughes; four children, Shauna (Mitchell) Smith of Bristol, CT; Langston Marcus, Ashton and Alyceson, all of Waukegan, IL; four sisters, Sadie (Joe) Gillespie-Buchanan, J. Delores (James) Patterson, Beach Park, IL, Joann GIllespie, Coatopa, AL, Caroline Wilson, Clarksville, TN; and one brother, Eugene Wright, Jr., Coatopa, AL; two grandchildren, Mitchell, Jr. and Mikayla of Bristol, CT. A life long friend, Shirley Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, Lorene Wright and Thomas Gillespie; and a brother, Tony Edward Gillespie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 29 at the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 1529 Elizabeth Avenue, North Chicago, IL. Rev. Eugene Roberson, officiating. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hughes' children college fund with Bank One, Gurnee, IL.

Stanley C. Jendras
Stanley C. Jendras, 78, of Bristol, WI passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at his home. He was born May 1, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Adam and Eva (Augustyn) Jendras. Stan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a signalman of the U.S.S. Munda, was a member and past Commander of the Antioch VFW Post #4551. He lived in Cicero for many years where he owned and operated Manor Service Station. was a member of the Our Lady of Charity Church, the Holy Name Society and the Catholic War Veterans. He spent vacation time in Bristol for over 40 years before moving there permanently in 1987 after his retirement. He was a member of St. Scholastica Church in Bristol and had been a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago for 10 years. His interests included gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels and watching the sunsets from his lake home. On June 2, 1951, he married Joan Gac at St. Adalbert's Church in Chicago and she preceded him in death on September 18, 2004.
Survivors include his three children, Cindy (John) Antene of Brookfield, IL, Kathy (Art) Burns of Naperville, IL and John (Judy) Jendras of Downers Grove, IL; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Jendras of Chicago and Eleanor Potempa of KY; and his sister-in-law, Loretta Jendras of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.
in addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Edward and John; and three infant siblings.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 27, 2004 at St. Scholastica Church, Bristol, WI. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Friday at STRANG FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Main St. (Rt. 83), Antiock, IL and from 9:30 AM until time of services Saturday in the church. Those desiring may make donations tot he VA Medical Center, North Chicago, IL, or the American Heart Association in his memory.

Alexis May Kazian
Alexis May Kazian, 2, of Libertyville, IL passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at her home. She was born August 11, 2002 in Libertyville and was the loving daughter of Kris and Kristy Kazian and dear sister of Kate Landolt and Emma Kazian, all of Libertyville. Also surviving are her grandparents, Dennis and Sharon Dumrauf of Buffalo Grove, Nancy (John DeVos) Edmunds of Round Lake, Greg (Merrie) Kazian of Kenosha, WI and many devoted aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 27 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 29700 N. St. Mary's Rd., Libertyville. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt 176), Libertyville.
Alexis battled cerebral palsy and a brain injury for two years, and was a very special child that loved to smile. A fund is being established to help special needs children, in her memory. Margaret A. Kramer-Grum
Margaret A. Kramer-Grum, resident of Gainesville, FL, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, from natural causes. She was 69 years old.
Mrs. Kramer-Grum was born in Chicago and raised her family in Lake Bluff before retiring in Gainesville 14 years ago.
She was a former member of the Women's Moose Lodge in Waukegan and former school board member of Lake Forest High School.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley A. Grum, Jr., of Gainesville; sons, James Grum and Roger Grum, of Illinois, and David Grum, of Tampa, FL; daughters Roberta Grum-Watson and Valerie Grum-Tokars, both of Illinois; a sister, Katherine Panko, of Illinois; and eight grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Zion Illinois Beach Resort, 1 Lake Front Drive, Zion, IL, from 1pm-5pm on Saturday, November 27th, 2004. Dedication to start at 2pm.

John A. Kreft
John A. Kreft, 80, of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Monday, November 22, 2004 at the Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. He was born August 14, 1924 in Chicago and was a former resident of Fox Lake.
John and his wife retired to Cape Coral, FL in 1985 and had been a Lake Villa resident for the past 15 years. They were the former owners of the Kreft Resort in Fox Lake and John was a retired employee of the Illinois Tool Works in Lincolnwood. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Philippine Islands during World War II and was a member of the Lakes Region American Legion Post #703 and past commander of the Fox Lake VFW Post #9655.
Surviving are his daughter, Janice (Mark) Snelten of Fox Lake; step-son, Fred Krasinski of Ingleside; five grandchildren, Lynsey and Jonathan Snelten, Shawna Haunroth, Paul (Colleen) Kreft and Jeff (Michelle) Krasinski; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Phillips of Tucson,AZ; and a brother, Anthony Kraft living in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Kreft; by his wife, Lucille Kreft on April 24, 2002; and by a step-son, Paul Kreft.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday, November 27 at the BURNETT-DANE Funeral HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt 176), Libertyville. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM, until time of services on Saturday. Interment will be at St. Adalbert cemetery in Niles.

Antonio Ramos
Antonio Ramos died November 23, 2004. He was born January 9, 1932 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, and a baby daughter.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Tina; his four daughters, Marilu, Theresa (David) Alameda, Judy (Jeff) Holmes, and Priscilla Rodriguez; his grandchildren, Eric & Emily Luna, Michelle, Danielle & David Alameda III, Alyssa & Sara Rodriguez, and Andrew Holmes; his sisters, Luz R. Acaba, Juana Ramos, Tona (Tacio) Feliciano, Milagros (Ramos) Ramos, and Tati (Angel) Barretto; his brothers, Enrique, Juanito, Obdulio, Jose (Celia), and Sixto Ramos; many nieces and nephews - too many to mention; as well as his dear friends of many years, Bob & Jimmy Casey and the entire Casey family.
Tony retired from Johns Manville Corporation after 42 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran. His favorite pastimes included running and later walking, listening to music, dancing, and taking care of his antique car.
Visitation will be held at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, 305 cemetery Road, on Friday, November 26th from 5:00pm-9:00pm, and Saturday, November 27th from 8:00am-8:30am. Wake service will be at 7:30pm on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass Saturday, November 27th 9:00am at Holy Family Parish, 450 Keller Avenue, Waukegan. Burial at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Parish.

Eisabel "Dorothy" Simmons
Eisabel "Dorothy" Simmons, 63, of Zion, IL died November 21, 2004.
Born August 8, 1941 in Chetham, MS to Odessa Bradley and Brown Edmond, who have preceded in death.
Dorothy is survived by her ten children, Clara Edmond, Sandra Miller (Greg), Joann Reedlinger (Michael) and Bridgett Simmons, Indianapolis, IN, Terry Edmond and Bianca Miller, N. Chicago, Darrin Simmons, Waukegan, IL, Angela Simmons, Kenosha and Chris Simmons, Milwaukee, WI, Clyde Edmond (Mary) of Virgin Beach, VA; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosie Edmond.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Bradshaw & Range Funeral Home, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL. Pastor Jimmie Johnson, officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will be gin at 10:00 A.M. (847)662-3553.

Vera L. SmallVera L. Small, 86, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the Westmoreland Home in Lake Forest. She was born April 29, 1918 in Scottsburg, IN and had been a resident of Libertyville for most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago and was a veteran of US Army Nursing Corps, serving in Europe, Asia and Africa during WW II. Vera was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Libertyville, having served as a past president of the United Methodist Women and also very active with the Libertyville Girl Scout Program.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Sharon (Gilbert) Mitchell of McConnell, IL, Susan (John) McCormick of Grayslake; 3 grandchildren, Julia (Dan) Davis, Jennifer and Katie McCormick and a great granddaughter, Megan Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene Elliott, by her husband Earl B. Small on Oct. 27, 1996, by her grandchildren, Michael John Mitchell and Pamela Mitchell and her brother Ivan Elliott.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sat. Nov. 27 at the United Methodist Church, 429 Brainerd Ave. Libertyville. Interment will be at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to either the United Methodist Church or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in her memory. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville.
