Jennifer L. Beyer
Jennifer L. Beyer, 30, of Gurnee died on Friday, March 8, 2002 in Gurnee.
Jennifer was born November 24, 1971 at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and has lived in Lake County since 1975. She graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School the Class of 89, where she was very active in school sports. She was a manager in Customer Service at AllScripts in Libertyville.
Survivors include her father and step mother, Michael and Tricia Beyer of Zion; her loving mother and step-father, Pat and Roger L. Schulz of Virginia; a brother, Timothy Schulz of North Carolina; her paternal grandparents Raymond and Betty Beyer of Grayslake; and her maternal grandfather, James Creek of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Lucy Creek.
Mass was held Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park followed by a private cremation. Visitation was on Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.
Memorial donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association have been suggested.

Selma L. Brown
Selma L. Brown, 87, of Lindenhurst, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center in Lindenhurst, IL.
She was born in Sheldon, Illinois on October 5, 1914, the daughter of the late Lula May and William Clifton Harrolle. She was a former resident of Bellevue, Iowa, LaGrange Park, IL and Western Springs, IL before moving to Lindenhurst. On December 21, 1935, she married the late Merrill O. Brown. She was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue, IA and Grace Lutheran Church in Western Springs, IL. She was a secretary for the AID Association for Lutherans in Western Springs for many years and then was the secretary for the Boy Scouts of America, Oakbrook, IL office.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Mandro of Lake Villa, IL; her grandchildren, Michael Mandro, Sarah (Steve) Edgell, Janet Mandro and Craig Mandro; her great granddaughter, Emma Edgell; her son-in-law, Les Yeager; and her sister-in-law, Alice Brown of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill O. Brown; and her daughter, Marilyn Yeager. Also by her sisters and brother, Irma, Eugene and Marcella.
Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Friday, March 15, 2002 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1822 E. Grand Ave, Lindenhurst, IL with Reverend Terry Breum, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be private at Sheldon cemetery, Sheldon, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements by RINGA FUNERAL HOME, Lake Villa, IL. Frances M. Garland
Frances M. Garland, 91, of Grayslake passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at her home.
Born November 23, 1910 in Waukegan, Illinois. A resident of Grayslake and a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church for over 60 years.
She leaves her sons: John Rodman (Karen) Garland of Round Lake, IL., James Walter (Peggy) Garland of Center Conway, New Hampshire, also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval W. Garland, 1973; sister, Viola Mannion, 1999; and brother, William Kennedy.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2002 at St. Gilbert Church Chapel, 301 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, Illinois 60030. Entombment will follow at Ascension Catholic cemetery in Libertyville. Ethel P. Hampson (nee Hansen)
Ethel P. Hampson (nee Hansen), 78, of Gurnee passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002 in Libertyville. She was born January 26, 1924 in Waukegan and had attended Waukegan Public Schools. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a charter member of Faith Methodist Church in Waukegan. She was an election judge for many years and also worked at the Waukegan News Sun in classifieds and she belonged to the Danish Sisterhood.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce (Tony) Sciacca; a son William (Jeannette) Hampson; 2 grandchildren Heather (Scott) Sipe and William Hampson.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2002 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Janet Miller officiating.

Edward D. Jacks
Edward D. Jacks, 86, retired prominent Certified Public Accountant and businessman in Chicago and Lake Forest for more than 60 years, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Westmoreland Nursing Home in Lake Forest after a lengthy illness. As a businessman he had also been a pioneer business aviator with more than 12,000 hours at the controls of his private aircraft.
Mr. Jacks founded a Certified Public Accounting and Consulting firm over 50 years ago that continues to bear his name in Lake Forest. His accounting and consulting clientele included individuals and corporations located throughout the United States, and to serve his far flung clientele, Mr. Jacks became a pilot in the 1940's and eventually became a multi engine, instrument rated pilot, owning and flying a series of twin engine aircraft.
Early in his career he also owned Wakeford Hardware, the largest independent hardware company in Chicago at that time. Throughout his life he was involved in civic affairs. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and the United States Navy League, where he was the treasurer of the Lake County Council for over 20 years. Mr. Jacks also served as alderman of Lake Forest, was a past President of the Lake Forest PTA and a Lake County Deputy Sheriff.
Mr. Jacks was born in Highland Park, August 5, 1915, where he met his recently deceased wife of fifty years, Helen (Anderson). After graduating from Highland Park High School, he attend DePaul University while already working full-time doing critical defense work during World War II as a staff accountant in a civilian firm. As a result, he was not able to accept his Navy commission.
Mr. Jacks moved his family to Lake Forest in 1942 and established his own accounting practice in 1951.
Survivors include his children Edward Jacks, Jr. of Lake Forest, Robert (Barbara) Jacks of Riverwoods, Nancy (Michael) Cummings of Highland Park and Jerry (Joann) Jacks of Lake Forest; grandchildren Therese, Robert, Sean, Carolee, Patrick, Kathryn, Edward and Francesca; great-granddaughter Erica; sister Lelia Harris of Texas and brother John (Irina) Jacks of Arizona.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002 at St. Patrick's Church, 991 Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL. Interment at Memorial Park cemetery, Skokie, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002 at KELLEY AND SPALDING FUNERAL HOME, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, 2050 Pfingsten Rd., Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60025. Jean C. Jasper
Jean C. Jasper, 78, of Winthrop Harbor died on Monday, March 11, 2002 at her home following a long illness.
She was born February 12, 1924 in Lake Villa and has resided in Winthrop Harbor for the past 53 years. She was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School, the class of 1941. On January 2, 1942 she married Robert Jasper of Winthrop Harbor at the First Methodist Church in Waukegan and together she and Bob were current active members of Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church. She spent 22 years as an employee of Zion State Bank, was one of the founders of the Girl Scout movement in Winthrop Harbor, was the Charter President of American Legion Auxiliary and was active in and supportive of the Winthrop Harbor Lions Club along with her husband Bob. Jean devoted much of her time to family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Bob; children Sandra (David) Drew of Annapolis, Maryland, Leslie (Rich) Heberlein of Citrus Heights, California, Robin (Bill) Sprague of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin and James (Stacy) Jasper of Longmont, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters Ruth Alice (David) Conklin of Elkhorn, Wisconsin and Faye (Ed) Radeke of Dallas, Texas; and special family friends Gene and Marlys Heckel of Silver Lake, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her father and mother James M. and Cora A. Cannon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church, 600 College Avenue, Winthrop Harbor with Pastor Gary Hougen officiating. There will be no visitation. CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church have been suggested.

Elizabeth "Betty" Shanteau Michelski
Elizabeth "Betty" Shanteau Michelski, 74, of Waukegan, IL., died March 12, 2002 in Waukegan.
Elizabeth was born May 10, 1927 in Little Rock, AR., to the late Dwight and Dallas Baskin, and moved to Waukegan with her family at an early age. She graduated from Waukegan Township High School, and was retired from Illinois Bell where she belonged to the Pioneer Club. She also did volunteer work at Victory Memorial Hospital.
Elizabeth is survived by two children; Lawrence (Charlotte) Shanteau of Beach Park, IL., and Mark Shanteau of Milwaukee, WI; four grandchildren, Deryk, Noel, Cameron and Suzanne; a brother, Kenneth (Tekla) Baskin of Naples, FL; five nieces and nephews, Karen (Larry) Furh of Taylor Ridge, IL., Douglas (Karen) Baskin of Austin, TX., Gregory (Amy) Baskin of Austin, MN., Laura (John) Licciardello of Barrington, RI., and Eric (Karen) Baskin of Austin, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A visitation for friends and relatives will be held after 5:00 p.m. Friday until time of services.

Clara Mae (Barker) Smith
Clara Mae (Barker) Smith was born in Tallassee, Alabama, February 8, 1935 to the late Dossie Lee and Cloran Helen (Mayberry) Parnell. She confessed Christ at an early age, was baptized, and became a member of Second Baptist Church in Tallassee, Alabama. After marriage, she fellowshiped at Shiloh Baptist Church, Waukegan, Illinois.
She attended elementary and middle school in Tallassee School District. On October 13, 1951, she met and married the late Ernest F. Smith, Sr. She birthed three daughters, Patricia, Nerissa, Cheryl Ann while residing in Alabama. In 1956, the family moved to Akron, Ohio where two more daughters, Helen, and Ernestine were born. Answering an employment opportunity, the family relocated to Waukegan, Illinois in 1960 and three sons were born, Ernest Jr., Gregory, and Andre.
Clara worked at Lightning Products Company for many years. She was a faithful and diligent worker. After the company relocated, Clara was employed at Waukegan Public Schools as a cook at Jefferson Junior High School. She also worked as a part-time cook at the Youth Development Center for Boys. In 1997 she relocated to the home of her daughter, Helen in Snellville, Georgia, where she remained until her death.
Her infant brother, parents, husband, and one daughter, Nerissa preceded her in death.
Survivors to cherish her loving memory are: four daughters: Mrs. Patricia (Elder Robert) Johnson, Akron, OH., Cheryl Ann Myers, Waukegan, IL., Mrs Helen (Stanford) Mayfield, Snellville, Georgia, Ernestine Smith, Chicago, IL; three sons: Ernest F. Jr., (Wanda), Gurnee, IL., Gregory (Corrine), and Andre' (Sandra) Smith both of Waukegan, IL., eight grandchildren whom she raised: Rev. Lenzelle (Teshela) Smith, Zion, IL., Mrs. Eushenia (Jermaine) Garrett, Charles Smith, Lamont Boykins, Reginald Smith, LeVale Smith, Demetrius Smith, and Ebony smith all of Waukegan, IL; Uncles Selas (Gaynelle) Barker, Cleavland, OH., Benn D. Mayberry, Tuskegee, Al., Henry (Felice) Mayberry, Montgomery, AL., aunts: Mrs. Violet Hamilton, St. Albany, NY., Mrs. Charlena (Nathaniel) Jackson, Tallassee, AL., Mrs. Gunnette Hunt, Montgomery, AL; sister-in-laws: Mrs. Teresa McElrath, Mrs. Etta (James) Perkins, Selma, AL., Mrs. Thelma J, Smith, Chicago, IL., Mrs. Harriette B. Nellum, Lawton, OK., Ms. Alice V. Martin, Arlington, TX., brothers-in-law: Sanford (Ernestine) Smith, Selma, AL., Robert W. Smith, Sr., San Diego, CA.

Ruby Jewel Smith
Ruby Jewel Smith, 76, of Wildwood passed away Monday, March 11, 2002 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born October 1, 1925 in Earle, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Harrison Littlejohn and Lula Brazile.
She leaves her daughters Barbara (August) Baumgart of Grayslake, Judy (Tom) Shepherd of Round Lake Beach and Peggy (Dennis) Kurek of Harvard, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Christine Littlejohn of Earle, Arkansas. She is preceeded in death by her husband Peter Howard Smith on September 8, 1995, sisters Jeanette Williams and Ottice Shepherd, brothers Bernice and Hollis Littlejohn.

Gary A. Stadler
Gary A. Stadler, 37, of Fox Lake passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Hospital in Chicago. He was born March 31, 1964 in Pasadena, CA and had been a resident of Fox Lake since 1980, formerly of Round Lake. Gary was an avid scuba diver and his hobbies included electronics and trains. Gary was the Manager at the Jewel Food Store in Lake Zurich for the past 13 years.
He leaves his mother Anne Carpentier of McHenry; maternal grandfather Reuben Carpentier of Round Lake; aunt Joan (Marty) Vogelsberg of Fox Lake; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceeded in death by his grandmother Ruth Carpentier.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Aysia Alexandryia Elaine Tanner
Aysia Alexandryia Elaine Tanner was born in the year of our Lord October 9, 2001 and went home to be with our Lord on March 9, 2002.
Aysia was born to Cristine Tanner and Eddie Davis Jr.
Aysia was with us for only five (5) months. Those months were filled with much joy and happiness. She was full of life. We called her "Baby Doll" because she was truly a beautiful doll.
Left to cherish her memories, her loving mother Cristine Tanner and father Eddie Davis Jr., two sisters AAliyah and Yolanda Tanner, grandparents, Yolanda Tanner, Alice Young and Eddie (Pearlie) Davis Sr., great grandparents Maybell Tanner, Ladell Barnes and Alberta Young, seven aunts Vivian Tompkins, Mylinda Stone (nanny), Jane Tanner, Josie (Norma) Johnson, Diane and Lisa Johnson, Sadekka Young, ten uncles Michael Tanner, Lorenzo Tanner, Anthony Tanner, Edward Tanner, Melvin (Allison) Young, Anthony Young, Larry (Eleanor) Tanner, Dennis (Eyvette) Tanner, Sam (Karen) Tanner, Fred (Rhonda) Johnson, and a host of cousins and friends.

Geneva C. Vento
Geneva C. Vento, 81, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Lake Forest Hospital. She was born August 24, 1920 in Lanesville, IL, was a former resident of Evanston and has been a Libertyville-Mundelein resident for the past 25 years. Geneva and her husband were the owners of The Cogitator, a book store of old and rare books. The store existed in three different locations over a 30 year span in Chicago, Evanston and Wilmette.
Surviving are her devoted husband and partner Donald Vento of Libertyville; her son George Drake of Long Beach, CA; a nephew William (Mary) Shaffer of Springfield, IL and a niece Evon (Delmar) Rogers of Libertyville.
Private family services were held on Wednesday, March 13 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville. Info: 847-362-3009.

Walter F. Cejner
Walter F. Cejner, 77, a long-time resident of Grayslake passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 after a long struggle with cancer. He was born January 7, 1925 in Chicago and served as a tailgunner in the Air Force during World War II.
He leaves his wife Joan (nee Burdett); sister Bernice Evasoff and 3 children Stephen (Kathryn) Cejner, Randall Cejner and Dianna (Eddie) Cejner Yee; 8 step-children Virginia (Brian) Sandstrom, John (Sue) Goodwin, Joe Goodwin, David (Sandra) Goodwin, Laura (Porfirio) Zavala, Michael (Eilish) Goodwin, Susan (Jon) Agazzi and Tom (Susan) Goodwin; 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

William R. Cortesi
William R. Cortesi, 61, of Lake Forest, IL passed away Monday, March 11, 2002 at his residence. He was born September 10, 1940 in Highland Park, IL and was employed/owner of Sunset Foods Grocery Stores on the North Shore. He was a board member of Catholic Charities of Lake County and a board member of Central Grocers, Inc. in Franklin Park, IL. Mr. Cortesi was a Marine Corp. Veteran. He had attended Immaculate Conception grade school in Highland Park, St. George High School in Evanston, IL and Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN.
He is survived by his wife Joni (nee Inman) of Lake Forest; one son John Everett (Denise) Cortesi of Highland Park, IL; two daughters Sember (Maxim) Meyers of Cincinnati, OH and Heather (Dennis) Fairbanks of Lake Forest, IL; his parents John and Jean Cortesi of Highland Park, IL; one brother Father David Cortesi of Chicago; one sister Teri (Dr. John) McGillen of Deerfield, IL; three grandchildren Dett, Samuel and Cecily Meyers. He was preceded in death by his sister Susan Ori.

Norma Cribb
Norma Cribb, age 65, of Waukegan, IL., departed this life on March 9, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
Born Norma Ioder on December 13, 1936 in Princeton, IL. She was raised on a farm until attending college, married her college sweetheart, Jacque Cribb (a Waukegan independent grocer), they made their home in Waukegan in 1958. She has been an active member in Waukegan Community Players (WCP) since 1959 performing not only as an actress but directing numerous plays. Her first musical she directed in 1972 "Fiddler on the Roof" drew the largest crowd in WCP history. Her enthusiasm for sharing life through drama expanded to include Stage Two, Storytelling, writing dinner/theatre mysteries. An active member at the First United Methodist Church for 43 years and was involved in choir, PEO and women's circle. She devoted her life to generously helping others.
Norma will be cherished and missed by her husband of 44 years, Jacque Cribb; daughter, Sheri Cribb of Gages Lake, IL., Jeffery (Jennifer) Cribb of Waukegan and Kirk (Tina) Cribb of Lake Villa, IL; as well as nine grandchildren; Corey, Austin, Brittney, Jeremey, Spencer, Kelsey, Sarah, Raquel and Brooke; her mother, Beulah Ioder; three sisters and three brothers, Caryl (Clinton) Behrens of Walnut, IL., Betty (Wayne) Pillen of Kewanee, IL., Edith (Bob) Orazem of Aitkin, MN., Harry Ioder of Walnut, IL., Jim Ioder of Gladstone, MO and Ned Ioder of Earlville, IL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Ioder.

Judith C. Fitzgerald
Judith C. Fitzgerald, 59, of Lancaster, CA., passed away Saturday, March 9, 2002.
She was born on August 21, 1942 in Chicago IL., the daughter of the late: John Keating and Ruth Coon. Judy lived and worked in Waukegan for many years before moving to California to be with her daughter and family.
She leaves her daughter: Pam (Augie) Morales of Lancaster, CA; son: Robert Fitzgerald of Waukegan. Sisters; Ginny Sutton of Ingleside; Lorrayne (Ken) Herring of Fox Lake; Mary (Bill) Meyer of Grayslake; Frances (John) Blandford of Grayslake; grandchildren; Doug, Dallas, Amy, Derek, Deena, DJ Morales and Melissa Fitzgerald of Waukegan. Three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a very special friend ED.
Memorial Services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2002 at THE STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 with the Fr. James Merold officiating. Interment will be privately held in California. Friends of the family may visit at the Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until time of services.
