Albert James Blaha
Albert James Blaha, 82, of Waukegan passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center. He was born December 21, 1919 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident. Albert had been a member of St. Anastasia Parish since its dedication in 1927 and worked tirelessly for the church. He was a veteran of WW II, member of St. Anastasia Holy Name Society, Waukegan American Legion Post 281, Waukegan Council of the Knights of Columbus, NALC Branch 409 retirees, and St. Therese Auxiliary. He retired from the Waukegan Post Office as Chief Financial Officer.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel (nee Hagen); 1 sister, Catherine (Olaf) Pekkarinen of Waukegan; many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews to whom he was completely devoted.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Kitty (nee Brown) Blaha.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2002 at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. H. William Byers
H. William Byers, 73, of Sun City, Arizona, formerly of Deerfield and Winthrop Harbor died on Thursday, October 24, 2002 in Sun City, Arizona.
He was born April 6, 1929 in Belvidere, Illinois and had been a resident of Lake County for 35 years. In 1993 he retired as General Manager at North Shore Sanitary District and soon thereafter moved to Sun City. He was an avid sportsman, conservationist and hunter and he belonged to several professional engineering societies.
He is survived by loving family and many friends including his wife of 50 years Sally (nee Peet) Byers; daughters Susan (Steve) Klauke of Sandy, Utah, Janet Wolfe of Des Plaines, Illinois and Karen (John) Luginbill of Troy, Michigan; six grandchildren Adam and Lisa Klauke, Timothy Wolfe and Michael, Sharon and Andrew Luginbill; four sisters Virginia, Mildred, Evelyn and Norma; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Phillip, two brothers Charles and Harold Byers, one sister Helen Ullmark and by his parents Charles and Eva Byers.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 2, 2002 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Hougen of the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to the Diabetes Research Foundation have been suggested.
George L. Davison
George L. Davison, 76, of Bradenton, FL, passed away Saturday October 26, 2002 at Bradenton Health Care in Bradenton, FL. He was born February 19, 1926 in Wayland, IA, the son of Jess and Grace Weaver Davison. George married
Donna Cole on August 22, 1948 in Fairfield, IA. He graduated from Fairfield High School, Class of 1943 and attended and graduated from Parson's College. George held positions as Director of Chamber of Commerce in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Clinton, IA, and Waukegan, IL. He managed trade associations in Chicago, and moved his last association office, WDA, to Bradenton, FL. He managed Warehouse Distributors Association until his retirement. George was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 in Germany during WW II. George was a life member of the Elks Lodge, and a member of several trade associations. He was an avid sportsman fond of billiards, bowling and golf and won many awards over the years.
Survivors include his wife Donna Davison of Bradenton, FL; son Stephen Davison of Missouri, TX; daughter Sheryl Aune of Lake Geneva, WI; 7 grandchildren and 3 triplet great grandchildren; and a sister Joy Sexton of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the BEHNER FUNERAL HOME in Fairfield, IA with Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. Burial with Military Rites at Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield, IA. Fairfield Elk's Lodge #1192 will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, November 1, 2002 at Behner Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests memorials to the National Alzheimer Association or to the Elk's Crippled Childrens Fund.
Tycho Brahe Dovel
Tycho Brahe Dovel, 14, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born June 19, 1988 in Lake Forest and had been a Libertyville resident for most of his life. Tycho was in the 8th grade at Highland Middle School and was very active in sports, including football, wrestling, track and baseball. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Libertyville, the Wyldlife Christian Group and was a boy who loved life and was given the gifts of athleticism, charisma, humor and the arts.
Surviving are his parents, Dennis and Barbara (nee Brahe) Dovel, his sister Jamie and brothers Michael and Nicholas, all of Libertyville; his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Eleanor Dovel of Elkhart, Indiana and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Brahe and aunt Bonnie Brahe Schaeffer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 4 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 29700 N. St. Mary's Road, Libertyville. An interment service for the family will be held on Tuesday at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. She was born in Greney, MN on September 10, 1906. She died on October 30, 2002 at her home.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Flake, loving mother of Widifred Sage of Round Lake Park, and Valerie Fandrich of Mundelein, cherished grandmother of Kenneth R. (Evon) Sage, Kim Courtland, and Dawn (Andy) Chychula, dear great grandmother of Coty and Courtney Sage, Adriana and Christina Chychula, and Stephanie, adoring sister of Val Prepodnik of Cook, MN, Joe Prepodnik of Greney, MN, and Marge Monrequiez. She was preceded in death by dear brothers Blaze, Victor, Albert, and Frank Prepodnik, loving sister Katherine Wilson, dear grandchildren Valley Marie Atherton and Steven Gouwney.

Evelyn D. Gilliland
Evelyn D. Gilliland, 77 of Lindenhurst, IL, died October 28, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan. She was born February 4, 1925 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She had an infectious laugh and when she laughed everyone laughed. She will be remembered as a kind, generous and loving person to everyone she knew. Evelyn also had a love for children and had worked in the Lake Villa Public School system for over 20 years.
She is survived by three children James (Kathy) Gilliland, Thomas (Regina) Gilliland and George (Diana) Gilliland; eight grandchildren Michael, Carrie, Jeffrey, Scott, Kristy, Nicole, Kimberly and Renee; one great granddaughter Lauren; one great grandson Elijah; one brother William Rozzoni and one sister Betty Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her husband George on July 16, 2002 as well as 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 East Grand Avenue, Lindenhurst with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville. Annette McFadden
Annette McFadden, 90 of Ingleside, passed away quietly at her home on October 28, 2002. She was born on April 8, 1912 in Beaver Falls, PA the daughter of the late William M. Cleckner and Sophia Bingle. She was a resident of Lake County for the past 42 years, and co-owner and operator of the Fox Lake Currency Exchange until her retirement in 1978. She was a life member of the Eastern Star Milburn Lodge.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years James E. McFadden, Sr. of Ingleside; her children, James E. (Robbyn) McFadden, Jr. of Wadsworth, Carol Kay (Thomas) Owens of Winthrop Harbor; grandchildren, Jason D. Owens of Bloomingdale, Douglas M. Owens of Winthrop Harbor, and Ryan J. McFadden of Wadsworth.
Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1st, 2002 at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Rd., Waukegan, IL 60085. Joseph F. Nader
Joseph F. Nader, 96 years old, of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, IL. He was born December 8, 1905 in Kenosha, WI, the son of the late Frank and Anna (Anderson) Nader and has lived in Lake Villa all of his life.
As a young man, he worked for the Nader Resort on Deep Lake doing many varied jobs. He later became a carpenter contractor worker many years in the area and was a 60 year member of the Carpenters Union Local #250 of Waukegan, IL. For over 50 years he was a volunteer Fireman for Lake Villa and for over 50 years a member of the Millburn Masonic Lodge #120 A.F. & A.M. Joe had a full life enjoying Ballroom Dancing, Playing Bingo, Fishing and traveling with the Kenosha and Des Plaines Chapter of the Holiday Ramblers. For many years, he enjoyed his home in Chetek, WI, where he often went to fish and be with his family.
On June 30, 1925, he married
Hilda Tweed in Waukegan, IL and she preceded him in death on August 15, 1987 after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include his daughter, Marlene (Tony) Coia of Antioch; his son Ralph (Anneliese) Nader of Westfield, WI; his daughter-in-law, Shirley Nader of Lake Villa; a brother, Carl (Mildred) Nadr of Antioch; two sisters, Bernice Armstrong and Ellen Petersen, both of Lake Villa; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Nader, Jr. in 1974; three brothers, Henry, Clarence and Roy; three sisters, Marie Nader, Anna Almquist and Pauline Schneider.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, November 4, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), with the Rev. Gary L. Curl of the United Methodist Church of Antioch officiating. Interment will be in East Fox Lake cemetery, Lake Villa, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 8PM, Sunday.

Betty Jean Phillips, age 63, of Waukegan, Illinois died Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Pebblebrook Nursing Home, Lake Bluff, IL. She was born in Chicago, IL on April 15, 1939. Betty graduated from college and was a certified public accountant. There are no known relatives who survive her.

Oscar Smith, Jr.
Oscar Smith, Jr., of Waukegan, passed away Monday, October 28, 2002 at Pinnacle Health Care in Waukegan. He was born December 25, 1938 in Fitler, MS and moved to Waukegan in 1952 where he resided until his death. He was a member of First Baptist Church in North Chicago and was a truck driver for Outboard Marine Corporation in Waukegan prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his daughter Sandra Smith; a granddaughter Raquel Smith, and stepson Fredrick Adams of Houston, TX; mother Louida Gordon of Waukegan; aunt Mary Dunn (Curtis) of Waukegan; uncle Willie Turner (Janie) of Waukegan; numerous relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister Ruby Smith; father Oscar Smith, Sr.; stepfather George Gordon; and special friend and uncle Jessie Gully.

Evelyn F. Thomas, 89, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002 at her home. She was born January 17, 1913 in Fremont Center and had been a Libertyville resident for most of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish and the Guild of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was active with the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society, the Lake County Council for Seniors and the Senior Friendship Club. Evelyn was a former girl scout leader, avid gardener, excellent seamstress and friend to all. She also organized weekly bridge groups with her very special bridge playing friends.
Surviving are her loving daughters, Carol (Jack) McGregor of Clam Lake, WI and Janet (Trey) Ritter of Libertyville; 3 grandchildren, Evelyn Ritter, Rose Marie (Damen) Thompson and Ed (Tarina) Swanson; 7 great grandchildren and her dear nieces, Patty Kasperczyk of Green Oaks, Jane (Ed) Sublett of Lake Forest, Betty Spencer and Laurie Lane, both of Libertyville, and Linda Finch of West Bend, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Josephine (nee Diebold) Frederick, by her husband Charles F. Thomas on January 21, 1989 and 3 sisters, Bernice "Bunny" Frederick, Marguerite "Peg" (Dr. Lawrence) Day and Lauretta Frederick.

Al Volz
Al Volz, 74, of Lake Bluff, died suddenly October 30, 2002 at his home. He was born March 14, 1928 in Indiana and had been a Lake Bluff resident for the past 32 years. Al had retired from Libertyville High School, was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville.
Survived by his daughter Valerie Ann of Lake Bluff, and his sister Theresia Denning of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace (nee Mutz) of 47 years, 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 2, 2002 at MCMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Pl., Libertyville. Interment at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
